Revel1984 F'ren nodded, he'd forgotten that Whers took after their handlers names, he should have remembered the Wher, since he remembered the man. "depends on the dragon i guess, she likes to .... 'help'" he said emphasising the word help as sarcastic, "i'm sure that you had other business to attend to instead of the hatching Relys, after all your Wher is awake at night, i gues you'd sleep then too" he said with a shrug, not really bothered whether the Wherhandler attended or not. Absently he ate some spiced meat, *Toulonth are you hungry?* he asked lamely, since the hunger growling in his stomach usually echoed hers Yes i am F'ren mine, but i dont much like the cooked meats here, where is the butcher? i want something fresh she informed him and started towards where she could smell the meat she wanted. "I'm sorry Relys, i'd better follow her" he said, "feel free to follow, who knows what trouble she'd get up to" he said with a slight chuckle at his dragon who was working her way around the crowd, bumping into a few people here and there. Relys chuckles. "I'm sure she'll just get more helpful as she grows. Good luck with her. I'd like to see her again when she's all grown." He nods, rather sheepishly. "Yeah, it is kinda hard to attend hatchings in the middle of the day. At least for me."
He strolls along after the green dragon and her rider. "So what exactly is she after?" Not having anything better to do then follow; having this 'in' with the riders directly could prove a boon to the traders. Not that he'd really know since trading wasn't really up his alley.

When Filanth roared, Taikoth jerked back in alarm, eyes whirling an abashed yellow. He ducked his head like a scolded canine, sitting back on his haunches. The look only got worse when he realized that the roar had caught the Weyrwoman's attention.
Come to think of it, T'vek caught that horrified look too, like it was contagious or something, both of them sincerely hoping that they could melt into the ground right there.
"I'm T'vek," he managed, voice relatively steady when the Weyrwoman's attention drifted away, apparently uninterested in the idiocy of a random blackrider. "Sorry - we're not usually this, um... This." Whatever this was.
Mine, you are doing that thing again.
What thing?
The thing where you get nervous and you start fidgeting with your hands. You told me to tell you if you did it, since it's a bad habit -
Oh shards. He stuffed his hands in his pockets firmly, then noticed the blood on Tiepet's. "Are you all right? I'm sure there's a healer around, if you need to -" Goodness knows they had plenty of healers around when they didn't need them.
---
It looked as though the little knot was breaking up. The weyrlings were separating, then the Weyrwomen. He'd done his duty, introduced himself and made it clear that he was there in support of Trine. He had the decency to look mildly abashed at the Weyrwoman's gentle jibe - but only mildly. Forwardness could be a good thing, too. But with the others politely excusing themselves, it looked as though all that was needed was a brief introduction.
That meant S'dekai was free to breathe a sigh of relief and find a more comfortable place to hang out. He excused himself with a polite bow and the most courteous farewell he could manage before turning away.
It looked as though the new weyrlings were scattered throughout the crowd, along with his fellow Malvren classmates... S'raid and Galvanth were still around, but S'dekai knew nothing about the other bronzerider, apart from the fact that he was Benden and apparently well-respected, to judge from the way he had been chatting so easily with the brass from both Malvren and Trine. Not to mention the way the newest gold and her rider were clambering all over his dragon... It was always nice to see a bronze setting a good example, though. There was no need for metallics to be untouchable.

"You do that," S'raid said, a pleasant smile curving his lips as the Weyrwoman beat a hasty, but elegant retreat. "You do that." The smile faded, and he turned to the others, giving another half bow. Already they were vanishing into the crowd, and he made no move to stop them. Good. He wanted time to digest what had been said, time to make his plans. Some of his plans would have to be altered, given this new... development. That was all to the good, really. They had been somewhat stalled for the moment. His eyes scanned the crowd, looking for one face in particular. A very familiar, very friendly face.
But where was D'vas? Ordinarily, the Bluerider would have been in the thick of things, keeping the company of at least one woman. He caught sight of K'la, but D'vas was not with her. ... Odd. Distinctly odd. That was so unlike the man that he was almost... concerned. With a head tilt, he turned, and looked again. No, this was not the D'vas he knew.
What was going through the man's head? Wait... Galvanth, where is D'vas? he inquired, a certain demand in his tone. Irritably, the Bronze raised his head to regard his rider with eyes that whirled in orange-red tones. Jivith's rider is here, S'raid. You have only to look... there. S'raid turned sharply, and stared into the very edge of the crowd.
Swiftly, he cut across the gathering, parting weyrfolk before him where he could, and impatiently making his way around them when he could not. He was not rude about it. S'raid was never rude about such things. Not where anyone could see it. When he finally reached his cohort, he looked the man over critically. "What is this nonsense, D'vas? Lurking at the outskirts of a social event? How unlike you."
Carefully, he cultivated a smile, taking the edge off of the words. D'vas would know, and he would know, but hopefully no onlooker would be aware of just what had passed between them. He anticipated that he was being watched. He was a Benden rider, and a Bronzerider, at that. That his actions went unremarked upon was... simply not likely. Not at all likely. It would have been far more convenient if they had been, but no.
No, being Galvanth's rider set him apart, for better or for worse. Believing otherwise would only endanger his plans, and he would not-- could not-- have that. "I'm rather surprised. I would have expected to see you with the beautiful K'la." Was that not where D'vas was to be expected? The man mooned over the Greenrider as much as he ever did any woman. She was lovely, yes. If only S'raid had a true appreciation for such things.
Still, to an extent he approved. The woman knew her place very well, and carried herself with grace. She was, to be sure, far too good for his... 'friend'. But that was no doubt why D'vas wanted her-- along with the fact that it somewhat irked the Bronzerider that he tried. If you do not wish Jivith's to linger with Yvoth's rider, perhaps you should not encourage him, Galvanth put in, and S'raid suppressed a scowl. Trust his Bronze to know him far too well.
So long as you are enjoying your 'best Moira', the man shot back, arms crossing formidably over his chest. I am. The dragon's tone was firm, but calm, and he turned his attention away from his rider and back to the youngsters that he was currently entertaining. I will endeavor to do so, Lifth, the Bronze replied, his eyes returning to their usual blue-green hues. You will assuredly know if it does happen.
When. When it happened. What does he eat, if not the meat? he inquired, regarding the little Bronze with some amount of confusion. Ah. You refer to the... bread, and vegetables? When I was a hatchling, I would eat the red fruits. That, however, had not been especially healthy for him. Growing dragonets should not make it their habit to eat human food. Did the youngling know that? It may make your stomach hurts, he added in a warning tone, though not an unfriendly one.

V’al malingered boredly on the edges of the crowd. The tension seemed to be easing off what with so many smaller dragons gallivanting around that huge bronze. Following his rider’s eyes, even Lerath asked about joining the mass of activity. A displeased look from V’al was enough to make the dragon redirect his curiosity into the crowd, which was, after all, much larger than the gathering around the bronze. The funeral crowd was less appealing to V’al though, and he wandered idly some distance behind his blue toddling about and mingling with the other dragons. Until a man he was sidestepping out suddenly turned and nearly smacked into him.
The fifteen Turn old weyrling’s eyes went from the man’s face to his knots. He didn’t scowl or frown disapproval, but the expression he carried in the crowd was already mildly surly. “I’m well,” he said with a respectful but curt nod. He glanced between the bodies further down the food table and gestured to a twitching, unfurled blue wing wobbling there. “And Lerath the same.” The blue, hearing his name in his rider’s mind if not audibly from this distance, stuck a head out from behind a man and stared at V’al and the Benden man.
“And yourself?”

Malina stood mournfully at the edge of the crowd, fidgeting anxiously, hand pressed to Bonth's dark green neck. The dragonet leaned into her, still so small, so comparatively weak that it sent Mali in anxious fits. Small ones, of course, but no less real for that. But they were not here because the newly made Greenrider was worried about her dragon. They were here because Bonth, and her clutchmates, were Crimson Alumanth's living legacy. They were here because Malina, who had been too young to remember it, had attended her own mother's ceremony all those Turns ago.
They would not miss Bonth's. This is not how my mother would have wished to be remembered, the dragonet informed her rider gravely, though she had no idea what her mother would have wanted. She knew, however, that Mali was weeping, and Mali weeping never meant anything good. The young woman stared down into multi-faceted eyes that held only a shadow of grief. Of course Bonth would not understand.
Bonth was a dragon, and they swiftly... forgot. And she'd been a baby in her shell when her mama had died. Mali's face crumpled, and she made a small keening sound. Where she had been able to live on stories and tales where her own mother was concerned, she could not do the same for Bonth. Well, she could. She was already telling the little Green stories. But she had seen it. She knew it was real.
It felt real, or more real than her own losses had been. "I... I know, Bonth. I'll try. I'm sorry. S-So sorry." She sucked in a deep breath, and composed herself the way her darling wanted her too, taking the sadness inward as much as she could. Even the joyous moment of Impression and the Hatching Feast could not entirely remove the shadow, however. So... now, to learn, and to show Benden that Trine's weyrlings would be better than an Old Weyr could believe of a New Weyr's brood.
Malina, the Benden dragons and their riders are here to pay their respects, Bonth reminded, and when she had managed to calm herself somewhat, Mali agreed. This would be about Alumanth, and about her rider, and Trine. It would not be about pettiness, or anger... though she couldn't bring herself to feel either. Instead, there lingered a desperate sadness that this had all been necessary. "Let's find s-something to eat, then," she said as calmly as she could, and began to lead Bonth through the crowd.

It was uncomfortable, this place. Discomfort was not something alien to the Benden rider, but he was thoroughly subdued by the atmosphere of the event - it was decidedly political. Politics were not his area as they were S'raid's, and while he would always support his closest friend, he had no interest in being in the thick of things. When the rider saw said best friend surrounded by the most important women in this part of Pern, he diverted almost immediately. He'd seen K'la, had considered, but in the end found himself on the outskirts of the group, staring out to sea. Really, this whole thing could not be over soon enough for him.
A big grin lit up his face when S'raid finally disentangled himself from his favorite game to spare some time, an D'vas vocally expressed this to him. "Amusing isn't it? You're the one surrounded by ladies for a change, and I think the freckled one might have a crush on you. You really collect little goldriders, don't you S'raid?" The joke was getting old, but he certainly wasn't ever going to let it go! High above, Jivith did sigh with exasperation at his own rider. Galvanth's is very fine, but could you not go spend time with Yvoth's? I like Yvoth. Galvanth is not for me. The blue was not at all comfortable at Trine in general, being denied his share of greens to fly.
If nothing else, it was making his rider rather edgy and impatient on top of his natural disposition. D'vas' voice was low and for S'raid's ears only as he spoke. "I'm ready to be back at Benden, the soup here is too thick for my liking."

Naree "Can't wait to see them gone. I wonder what that Healer is acting all uppity about... The rumors have been running fierce. Did I tell you bout what Xan and I have been doing these past few days? I think I can talk about it now." V'tur asked his fellow brown rider. "No, I don't believe that you have," S'ren replied. "Do feel free to share if you feel able to. What business have you been up to?" The fact that the two riders had apparently been on a secret mission of sorts for the past several days rather intrigued him. Even Tereth turned a curious eye onto the other Brownrider at his words. Ruby didn't particularly seem to care either way, although S'ren doubted that the flit understood much of the importance or the concept behind such things. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Miss Cherie So long as you are enjoying your 'best Moira', the man shot back, arms crossing formidably over his chest. The Blue had noticed the momentary shift in the Bronze's eye color as he bespoke someone else (Lifth was guessing His), but he made no remark or question on the matter. Well then, if you would excuse me, I had best find Mine. Perhaps we shall speak again before you leave. With a polite inclination of his head, the dragonet turned and made his way through the crowd to locate His. He wished to return to the semi-privacy of their barracks soon. ~~~~~~~~~~~ *This is a tag to V'al*Mossy had found herself quite contented thus far with sneaking bits of food from the table as well as watching the curiosities of the crowd about. But there was really only so much the small green could eat at once, and after a while she was beginning to find herself to be somewhat bored. Rather than simply returning to her human though (that would be far to easy and boring), the firelizard thought it might be more fun to meet new people at random. Picking out a nearby boy in the crowd who appeared to be talking to someone, she blinked Between and reappeared directly behind him, choosing to use his shoulder as a perch. The flit let out an enthusiastic chirp directly in his ear before climbing across his back and to his other shoulder for a better view. ":3"

Scarath hums happily at the thought of the foods. 'Mine doesn't let me each much of it. He's worried about it affecting my growth. But I don't see why. He eats it, and look how big he is.' He points his muzzle towards His. Clearly if it worked for S'kor.... what S'kor didn't mention was that it could make him a fat dragon.

The Benden rider nodded in return to the boy, ignoring his tone. The tone was one he quickly became used to, ever since Alumanth passed away. He glanced in the direction the crimsonrider's body was before focusing his attention onto the sulking lad.
"I too, am fine. Though Xalth -- he's the lighter blue dragon near to Galvanth, the bronze over there, somewhat behind him -- would rather be out riding the thermals here." He replied. "Once Yours becomes old enough, I highly recommend them. You and Yours also are free from lift duty given the Weyr's layout, to- gah!" The rider visibly jumped as the firelizard appeared on the boy's shoulder. "Ach! Firelizards. I've never gotten used to them. Is she yours?"

V’al craned his neck to spot the blue. He was average-sized for his age, but if he ever grew into his heavy feet he’d be large enough to look over most of the crowd without trouble. His expression lightened at the sight of the blue. Would Lerath grow so large and lovely?
The blue had been wandering closer now that his rider was actually talking to someone, his wings lifted high over his back and flexing spasmodically on the approach. He hummed a greeting to the Benden rider and his eye whirled curiously. Lerath asked some question that V’al was considering modifying before passing on when there was a soft hiss of air behind him. Dainty clawed feet landed on his shoulder, and he echoed the older rider’s surprised yelp, flinching and ducking his head as if expecting the thing to snap off the ear it was trilling in. Without thinking he swatted a hand at the spot, but the firelizard had shifted to his other shoulder.
Lerath’s confused hiss of alarm summoned enough sense in him not to swat at the swath of green in the corner of his eye. He cringed horrible still, teeth grit with poor self restraint, and slowly held up a hand to block the flitt from his face. “Not at all,” he said in a voice so harsh that made his earlier tone with the Benden rider sound holy in intention. “Get off, you sharding cur,” he muttered, shrugging a shoulder to encourage its leaving.
Mine, she is only a little cousin. The dragonet extended his neck toward the green firelizard and crooned a calming note.

And this started before that bronze rider offended and caused Alumanth's death. Remember when one of their brown riders offended one of our blacks? Xan and I were asked look into the matter after we heard some remarks," V'tur murmured quietly so as not to be overheard. Iweith bobbed his head in agreement. He remembered the wild chase they went on in the Holds to find those two. We had to find them. It was not easy."No, it was not. We found them in Eron I think it was... At least the black rider was..." V'tur continued on.

magnadearel Optheli enjoyed the redfruit bite by bite. Hopefully none got on her blouse, it was one of her favorites. "Hmm, I guess your really one up on me. I don't really know any of the former candidates. Oh maybe one or two, but that's just cause we had dealings with them as traders. Ya know the boy with the brightly colored scarfs? That's one." She nods as if that explained everything.Dynith's eyes whirl happily. She was happy she'd made the blue happy in turn. Of course, she was equally happy that his attention was on His. What would she do if he asked to make her happy again? Surely he'd get tired of getting flowers. Enthused, Daroth went wandering off to find something else to please Dynith. The brightly colored blue was butting his way through servers and folk just milling around when he came across a Malvren rider. He looked up at someone who seemed sooo much taller than himself. She had a friendly face and offered him a roll.
Too shy to speak to her even though he could tell she was a rider, he merely butted at her feet and trotted back to Nasuymi and Dynith. ~~~ "Who was that Zabreth?" Ralae asked as a blue dragonet took her offered roll and walked away. Curious, she followed him to where two girls and another dragon were standing around. These must be the newly Impressed! Extremely pleased at finding someone else to speak to, the green rider walked right up and grinned.
"Hello! I am Ralae, from Malvren. I am a green rider! Congrats on your Impressions. It's sad we have to be here but that meant that Zabreth and I got to learn how to go between faster. But, I am going to fast. Everyone says I always do." The very young green rider said all of this in one baited breath. Giving a friendly grin, she continued. "What are your names?"Hello there little ones. You can not see me but I am Zabreth. My rider is with yours. If you can find me, I am very dark green and not as high up as some. The green bugled so they could spot her. ~~~~ N'ymi has just been about to make a comment about barrack assignments when Daroth came back carrying a roll and right behind him, came a green rider from Malvren. The girl was short and looked incredibly cheerful and friendly. The girl, who now introduced herself as Ralae, began a verbal tirade that could probably wear down cliffs. Blinking, she tried to digest everything. "M'name's N'ymi. My blue is Daroth. Yeah t'is sad but Benden an' tha' snotty 'ealer will b'gone. An' we can get back tah normal life." I found this for you Dynith. I hope you like it. My name is Daroth, nice to meet you. The blue looked up when Zabreth bugled for them.

R'vik smiled at Lerath's greeting. "Ah! So this is Yours? He is quote handsome," he complimented. Xalth! Perhaps --
No. I am quite fine here, thank you.
Spoilspor - ACK!
Mine?! Xalth surged to his feet and looked in the direction of His, eyes whirling yellow. The blue dragon took a step towards the crowd as he hissed before R'vik soothed him with thoughts, urging him to relax.
It's just a Firelizard, R'vik explained, Not this boy's, but a cheeky little flitt. The runner shook his head. "Not a fan of them either, I see," he remarked. Part of him felt sympathetic, the other part felt glad that it wasn't him.

Needless to say, she found the blue's desire to please her timid Dynith absolutely endearing as he toddled off. She was curious what he would find acceptable to bring back after the flower. To her surprise a woman... or maybe a girl... approached following the blue. It took a moment for her mind to catch up, but when it did, Optheli gave the newcomer a wide grin.
"Welcome to Trine! It's so nice to met a rider from Melvren. I'm Optheli and my little green is Dynith. Thanks, it came as an utter surprise. It must have been exciting to learn to fly between so early Ralae. Was it hard? What was it like? I've never ridden dragonback yet." Optheli matched the other girl. Finally! Someone open and friendly. She'd hate when Ralae had to leave. Listening to N'ymi, she nodded. "It will probably get calmer once they leave."
Dynith ducks her head shyly as the unfamiliar person approached Her's and Her's new friend. When she was introduced she gave a polite trill then ducked her head against her rider's leg. She jumped and fanned her wings in surprise when the older green spoke. However, realizing that it was a green she relaxed and stretched her head up to see the bugling green.
'I see you Zabreth. I am Dynith and Mine is Optheli. Mine likes Yours I think.' She tries to imitate Zabreth's bugle, though it comes out a little weak from shyness; her wings fluttered to help the other green spot her. Forcing Her's to take a step back to give the little green extra room. Calming down she turned her attention to Daroth. 'What is it?'
