"Look Xan," Tor gripped his friend's hand tighter than ever, "a new queen has Impressed, and that lovely blue! Their colours! It's amazing. Truly amazing. By the first egg, I swear the moment we get out of here I'm going to go and hug that big brown dragon and never let go!" A gold Impressing for the stands; a rare tale to be sure.
*****
...Humm. From the stands was it? F'itz folded his arms across his chest, wondering who the chosen girl was and where she came from. For all he knew, she was a Benden plant; he really did not like how little they had been told about what they were doing here... No, they knew what they were doing, they were ferrying healers around; it was the healers they didn't know about... Was something going to happen? He hoped not. Despite himself, the brownrider was beginning to relax into his usual enjoyment of a hatching; it would be wrong to spoil it.
*****
...Shells. For a moment, he'd thought the bratty queen was going for Ofie. Thankfully, that was not to be; it was a girl beside her that the gold had attached herself to. He supposed he could only hope the girl was up to keeping that gold ego in check, especially if he did end up Impressing himself... Speaking of that possibility, the brown still hadn't chosen. Setting the attention-seeking gold out of his mind, Kyros turned back to the action.

Nasuymi wanted to whoop with delight! When the little blue had stumbled and fumbled for the girls, she was sure her heart skipped a beat or two. After all, there were so many lovely shades of blue. Two easy Impressions and now...
The Gold was heading for the Stands! Two stand Impressions in one hatching, what were the odds of that?? If Nasuymi had had the sense of a Bitran, she would have been money. As it stands, she had avoided the egg pool this time around, unable to make up her mind about any of the egg colors except the bronze and gold. "Wha' a pair those two make! Pickin' the best no matter wher' they be at! Congrats to them, eh?"
The brown was still Searching and there were still so many eggs shaking. Nasuymi started to dance from foot to foot as the sands heated up.

By the Golden Egg of Faranth, Moira had Impressed the Queen. Tiny, sharp tongued Moira whose mouth was bigger than her body. While S'raid was digesting this, Galvanth bugled, trumpeting to the world that his friend Moira had Impressed, and to a Queen! Do you see, S'raid? I knew she was special, the Bronze informed his rider smugly, delighted by this turn of events. Oh yes, Moira would be a very good queenrider! Her dragon would be all the stronger for the fire that S'raid so often muttered to him about. His favorite Moira was clever, and wise, and brave, all of which traits would greatly benefit Trine.
S'raid let out a bark of a laugh as the girl declared her victory over him. He could not help but concede it to some extent. Still... "Spitfire." The words weren't loud enough to carry, truly, but maybe she could read his lips. He grinned, looking rather amused by the new orders of things, if not slightly chagrined. Later, he would groan and bemoan the fact that now Moira had a justifiable reason to order him around. His look informed her in no uncertain terms that he would find a way to get her back later. Yes, yes, a man grown and still playing games with a little girl.
He didn't care. Schooling his expression into a proper scowl (that did not wholly conceal his amusement, as the corner of his mouth perpetually twitched upward), he shook a finger at the naughty weyrling. For shame, a queenrider jumping over railings, and putting on obnoxious displays of superiority-- oh wait, that last part did sound appropriate. He was... oddly pleased, and no little proud, though he did everything in his power to contain it. Needless to say, Galvanth made no such efforts. He had befriended the young woman, and was quite delighted that she had achieved so much.
This is good. They will be strong together, the Bronze insisted, totally oblivious to the fact that the pair in question would be strong in Trine together, and that this would therefore have no bearing on matters back home at Benden. It would have a bearing on matters of Pern, Galvanth said firmly, brooking no arguments. For once, S'raid didn't even bother trying to argue with his dragon. He simply watched the dragonet and her rider, and wondered what this would mean for all of their futures.

D'vas was high up in the stands, but not so very high that he did not see the spiky-haired young woman who all but shook her rather nice rear end in S'raid's face, before giving the bronzerider a rather pointed look. Though his old friend was no doubt about to choke on his tongue with rage at the girl, the bluerider couldn't have been happier! After all, this meant that S'raid had showed open interest in a female! Sure, it was disdain and not quite animal lust, but beggars aren't choosers, and D'vas wasn't picky!
It was a girl. It got a rise out of S'raid. He was going to have to push those buttons and push them good. His laughter echoed slightly off the top of the Cavern, and Jivith's eyes whirled with a bit of confusion.
I do not think that Galvanth's will be around to fly the new gold, mine. I do not think they would let him. Of course this only made him laugh harder, bent over at the waist with mirth. It was perfect!

Annnd that left the brown on his own and he looked up as all the gazes turned away from the spectacle of the queen and settled on him. Shying away, he kept his head low and padded around the boys. Quickly enough, his head perked and he arched the long slender length of his neck as he padded over and sat down in front of Sheridan. Your Violith is hungry, Mine, and everybody is watching us... As the dragon made his Impression, more eggs had begun to wiggle and crack and roll about. A brilliantly marked blue burst from the Distorted Reflection egg and shook himself free of the mess as he craned his neck and seemed to congratulate Violith. He bounced away, however, as a green rolled out of the Bared Fangs egg and nipped at the blue before slowly rising with all the grace of a seasoned predator. The two were stark contrasts to each other and held so very much promise.

He tipped his head towards the new Brown rider in congratulations. What a wonderful pair they would be. His gaze returned to the eggs that still had yet to hatch, two burst out as he turned. Another blue and green. He stood and watched them as the green seemed to stalk the candidates.

...Ah well, not the brown, but maybe the green or blue? Kyros studied them carefully, frowning slightly at the green as she snapped at the other dragonet. It was... he supposed it was like a new pack of canines sorting out the pecking order, or a crowd of kids. Sometimes, if you were willing to show your teeth, size didn't keep you from dominating... Still, he guessed she could be for him; right now, given the little he knew, he was ruling out only by colour, i.e. golds and bronzes. Anything else, for whatever reason, might look to him.

"Sheri!" Malina was overjoyed, and excited, and just delighted because Sheridan had Impressed the Brown. Mali was pretty sure that Sheri had, because the Brown was right there, and was looking at him, and ... oh! Oh, she was so happy for him! It was amazing, and exciting, and wonderful! "Oh, Sheridan!" Yes, she was terribly pleased, and not at all disappointed that no dragon so far had shown any interest in her, marked or otherwise. No, there were plenty of dragons left, and really it was just so much fun when somebody Impressed! She cheered with all of her heart for both Sheridan and for the new Goldrider-- who she didn't recognize.
She would have gone on doing so, but quite suddenly there was a pair of dragonets on the Sands, and they were fighting. Oh dear. Oh dear. Was that normal? Or... not precisely fighting, but seeming to take each other's measure? Well, that was a possibility too. Her gaze strayed away from them and back firmly onto her friend. Good on him. Oh, she had known that he had it in him. He would be a good Brownrider. They would all be good riders, each and every one that had Impressed!

Optheli applauded for the boy the brown Impressed to. It was really turning out to be an exciting Hatching. As the brown found His, two more eggs hatched. A blue and a green. A little snapping displayed, but nothing seemed too bad.

Good Lord. Jalarant was appalled at the manners of the newly Impressed Queenrider. That was no way to act at all! No graciousness, no politeness, just throwing your success in the face of a foreign rider? He could understand being happy and all, but... Really!
He certainly hoped that one would calm down...!
When he turned his head back from watching the new Rider come from the sands, he caught sight of the two newly hatched dragons. The Blue was, well, a normal blue. The Green.... Seemed to be hunting them.
Great. Just what they needed. Hopefully this one wasn't hungry enough to attack... Not that he'd ever SEEN a dragon attack a person. But he supposed, with his great luck, that there was a first time for everything!

She didn't recognize the Candidate who Impressed the brown, but she hadn't been very good about meeting her fellows in the barracks either. They made a nice looking pair, though.
More eggs--the blue's seeming congratulations to the brown gave him a sort of regal bearing. That was the egg that had been a bit sly, she remembered vaguely, and watched him with a raised eyebrow--well, watched him at least until the green burst from the bared fangs egg. Her nipping proved her every bit as ornery as Akaya had guessed from the feelings of the egg. Handfuls, the both of them, she was sure.

For the barest of instants, Lanakirene genuinely thought she was going to get her wish...and had clapped a hand to her mouth by the time she realized that the gold wasn't going after Ofelia but rather the girl next to her. Huh. Go figure...this Hatching was full of surprises, wasn't it? But she burst out clapping anyway, giving a whoop of laughter and shooting a merry thumbs-up to Ofelia. And then her attention was diverted by new dragons appearing. Glancing back at her companion, she nodded and turned her smile back from dragons to Nasuymi, but she was once again diverted.
Blue and green...both dragons who could Impress to anyone. Clasping her hands behind her back, La waited with a wry grin for whatever happened next.

The cracking eggs sound around Sheridan were nothing more than background noise, his entire world had centered down into a single point. A single, solitary brown point that moved with an odd gracefulness for the apparent size of the dragonet. Violith. His Violith!! A hand reached out and touched the brown head resting in front of him, a reverent awe apparent in every inch of his manner. "Violith...yeah. Let's get out of here and find you something to eat." He could feel the discomfort of the brown almost as if it were his own, something alive and lurking beneath his own comfort. "But don't worry, I think everyone might be a little more interested in your sister the queen." A strong arm wrapped around that almost delicate neck in an awkward hug for a moment, and unsure what to do, Sheridan simply wrapped an arm around his lifemate and started to lead him off towards where he thought the others had gone. Maybe someone would point them in the right direction...eventually.
Hopefully Malina would not be far behind - she wasn't the kind of girl you could leave alone for long! Violith, however, was unconcerned with this, and simply pressed his wedged head against Sheridan's - the new S'idan's. I do not care. She is very noisy, we should be away for now. Alone for food, and then sleep. Sleep sounds very nice, do you have a big bed? Clearly, his dragon was not going to let him be alone any longer!

Well Ofelia was rather at a loss now, what with her careful explication and general conversation partner now out on the sands with that prickly gold from before. It made her sad to think she didn't have anyone to ask anything of anymore and she gave a deep sigh, careful to make it soft enough that her brother's amazing hearing of magic didn't pick up on it and read it as something else. That man would have joint pain in his fingers by the time this hatching was over if she kept at it, and she needed to be able to move her leg properly tomorrow to get things done right.
"Hey bro, can ya tell me what yer lookin at? Wit' my partner off an' all I dunno what's goin' on."
She didn't get a response other than a 'then shut up and look', leaving the young woman to frown, call him a rather impolite name, and turn her gaze back to the sands.
Farewell nameless friend, you got yourself something now that Ofelia wouldn't get near unless you paid her some heavy marks.
AND OH WOW, THERE WERE MORE DRAGONS NOW. Sweet.
. . . Ofelia really needed to pay more attention.

Viskal glanced back to the stands to see the gold impressing and the flaunting of her new chosen. She the following spectacle drew his eyebrows up in surprise, down in cynical critique, and then arched one as he revised his opinions. He knew of her by reputation, or at least of her mouth. Viskal didn’t know hardly any of the Candidates personally, but he knew of enough to make him aware of his surrounding fellows. This girl, Moria, would likely be worse now than ever. Maybe she’d find a purpose to her devilish behavior now. Viskal found himself wishing to be part of whatever hell she kicked up, but he focused his attention on the sands for now. The brown had made his choice, and now… that green. If there was a dragon likely to cause problems on the sand, he expected it to be between this one and whoever got between her and her Chosen.
