02.21.05 - Journal Entry Junyi
Oh no. Oh hell no. No. Just... no.
I think Jokeph is sick.
He's barely moved all day, and didn't even protest when I took Luna with me to work. No words through that bird of his, no tears, no begging, no tantrums. He just blinked, rolled over, and that was it.
When we came back for lunch, he was still in bed. There was a good-sized hole burned through his pillow, but otherwise nothing had changed. He smiled when he saw Luna, but nothing else.
All attempts to take his temperature have been met with grisly results. I can't touch him, and the metal bulb on the end of the thermometer I stuck in his mouth corroded in seconds. I would've tried to read the temperature off of the remnants, but the dye inside spilled out and stained everything. It was an ordeal just to wipe his face afterward.
He must be sweating; the washcloths I wiped his face with were bleached and half-eaten through when I finished. Once again, his clothes are starting to become discolored and full of holes.
I'm worried about him; he can't be examined normally, and I'm sure as hell not going to take him back to Neilan. Lord knows what Commander Haladet is going to do to him when she gets the opportunity to dissect him with her machines.
I can take Luna with me to work for a while longer, but I don't know how much longer I can keep it up. It's hard taking care of business and a baby. Hell, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE. Jokeph is my biggest source of help with her; how am I supposed to handle this without him?!
I'm such a horrible mother.

02.21.05 - Journal Entry Junyi
I was finally able to take Jokeph's temperature, although both the ends and the means were quite unpleasant.
Oral thermometers simply dissolved in Jokeph's mouth, and the underarm ones didn't fare much better. I could use the in-ear thermometer, but trying to navigate around THAT sweat-soaked hair? I don't THINK so.
I did have one last resort up my sleeve.
Guess what it was.
Come on, guess.
Long story short, it was... an ordeal. Jokeph wasn't very comfortable to begin with, and I think this was just the icing on the cake. At least the corrosion was a SLOW one this time. Slow enough for me to be able to get an accurate temperature.
One conversion chart later, I found that he had a fever of 103.
Well, if I wasn't ALREADY going to keep him away from Luna...
I'm not worried about myself. I CAN'T come into physical contact with him. Luna, however, can. In either case, I'm going to be very careful while I take care of him.
He isn't eating. That worries me. Maybe it's because he knows he's not allowed to be near Luna? Maybe it's because he's so sick? In either case, I'm going to keep checking up on him and make sure he's all right.
NOW what am I going to do?

It was a somewhat wary Cyrus that approached Junyi's house. The Neilani woman had sounded rather stressed on the answering machine, so he was a bit concerned with what he was about to get himself into. He didn't even know anything about babies in the first place? Why'd she gone and asked him of all people?
Still, Boyan might be around somewhere, and it'd been a while since Cyrus had seen his Porcelain friend. This would be a good chance to catch up, if he was even around today. He rang the bell and waited hesitantly on the step.
The door was flung open quickly, revealing a very surprised looking Melody.
"O!" She exclaimed, staring at him with wide brown eyes.
A moment passed, and she finally seemed to remember why he would be standing there at the door, and with a happy nod, she turned on her heel and dashed away, leaving the door wide open.
Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunyi! 4laugh
Junyi nearly crashed into Melody, carrying Luna in one arm and looking as if she had been dragged through hell and back. Her hair was disheveled, there were black circles under her eyes, and she looked ready to cry or scream... or perhaps both.
"Oh... Oh thank god!" she whispered, knees buckling slightly as she sighed with relief. "I... I'm so glad you're here. Come in, take your shoes off, and I'll show you where everything is."
And through it all, Luna seemed... uncharacteristically fussy.
Cyrus blinked down at Melody for a moment and smiled warmly, only just managing to bite back a snicker as she dashed back into the house. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to laugh when she'd nearly tripped Junyi and Luna.
He nodded to Junyi, one ear pinning back at the woman's appearance. ..maybe it wasn't too late to run back the way he'd come. Except for the irritating fact that his legs were moving on their own, stepping inside and toeing his shoes off. Curse his inability to turn his back on a frantic female! "Er, yeah.. I got your message," he said lamely, trying his best not to stare.
Junyi didn't seem to hear him; or notice his discomfort. She had already begun speedwalking to the kitchen. "The emergency numbers are on the fridge, as are my work numbers- both of them- and Yeu's contact information is right underneath it. There are a few bottles of milk in the fridge; pick the ones with the earliest dates on them. Melody knows how to heat them; just let her do it. There's baby food in the pantry, and if she doesn't want that, try offering Cheerios. She can't really resist those yet."
Not even pausing to take a breath, she continued. "Jokeph is upstairs in bed; he needs to take medicine after dinner. You know how to heat canned soup, right? Just prepare a can of soup and be sure to add about five good shakes of hot pepper; it's by the stove."
"If he doesn't eat, don't force him, but whatever you do, DON'T TOUCH HIM. It's probably best not to touch anything after he does. I'll pick up after him. Try to keep him in his room, but don't fight with him if he refuses; he can be kinda stubborn, and I don't want a fight. He shouldn't be too much trouble at all; but this is all FYI and..."
With a wheeze, she thrust Luna into Cyrus's arms. "That should be about it! Remember; if you have any problems, call me! Melody should help you out okay bye!"
With that, she disappeared in a Junyi-colored blur, leaving Cyrus alone with Melody and Luna.
Luna stared at Cyrus with wide eyes...
...And immediately began flailing. scream
He blinked and hurried to the kitchen after her, glancing quickly at the numbers when she pointed them out. Milk in the fridge - easy to remember. And it was probably a good thing he wouldn't have to heat them himself... He took note of the other things she mentioned - all fairly easy. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all...
Oh. But, wait. No touching Jokeph? He wanted to ask about that, not quite sure why just touching someone was a bad idea. But then he found his arms full of Luna and had to focus on not dropping her, and by the time he'd regained his balance Junyi was gone.
And Luna was flailing!
He blinked and did his best to keep the infant from falling from his arms, coming to an abrupt decision that sitting down would be a good idea. That way if he did happen to drop her she wouldn't fall as far. "Hey, hey. Um. It's okay, Luna," he attempted.
crying This was already too much trouble.
Luna didn't seem calmed by the words at all; if anything, she was more agitated.
She did, however, project a strong feeling of emotional discomfort at having being exposed to so much misery and stress.
........Um.........can Melo have a snack? sweatdrop
Cyrus tried to dredge up some happier emotions, though it was a bit difficult with a flailing child in his arms. Would Luna like to play with her toys, maybe? sweatdrop Cyrus is sure he can find some for her.
He sighed and nodded at Melody. Of course she can have a snack. :3
With a frustrated projection not unlike an angry grunt, Luna went limp and simply leaned against Cyrus's chest.
......She seemed to appreciate the effort.
DASH.
He gave a small sigh of relief when Luna relaxed, even if it was more like she'd simply given up. It meant he wasn't in danger of dropping her from her flailing anymore, and that was always a good thing. He patted her back gently in a weak attempt at comforting her.
He projected a vaguely questioning thought at the infant. Was there anything she wanted?
Did Luna want anything...?
She wanted her mother. And her father. And Jo. And Tsu Tsu. And her brothers; especially the one with the sparklies. crying
sweatdrop Cyrus didn't think he could get any of those people for Luna. ...he wasn't even sure what she meant about brothers.
He sighed and stood up, carefully shifting Luna to one arm and wandering toward the pantry. Junyi had said something about the baby liking cheerios, hadn't she?
He glanced down at the girl, one ear pricking forward hesitantly. Did Luna want some cheerios, maybe?
Luna's eyes lit up and she smiled.
That could be taken as a yes.
Meanwhile, the kitchen became filled with a faint acidic scent.
Huzzuh! At least he'd managed to hit on something she liked. He peeked into the pantry and found the cheerios easily. ...though something in hear smelled a bit off...
He wrinkled his nose distastefully and set the box on the counter so he could sit Luna in her highchair. Once he'd made sure she wasn't about to fall out of that either, he reached for the cheerios and poured some out on the tray for her, even managing to smile now that things seemed less troublesome.
...except for that smell. Where was that coming from?
Luna's smile grew wider and wider, and finally, she giggled.
Jo!!!!! 4laugh
As Jokeph stumbled through the kitchen, wearing only a bedsheet around his waist, he shot the back of Cyrus's head a withering glare.
He KNEW there was a stranger in here.
Cyrus blinked slowly. Well, at least Luna seemed happy. ...though that was maybe a bit too happy for just cheerios... ..and who was-
His ears swiveled towards Jo only a few moments before he turned to look at the man.
....
....
....WHY WAS THERE A HALF-NAKED MAN IN THE KITCHEN?! gonk He edged in front of Luna in a protective gesture, keeping a wary and hopefully intimidating gaze on Jokeph. "Who the heck are you?!"
Jokeph frowned, already adjusting his hold on the rapidly bleaching sheet and leaving a path of holes through the thin fabric.
He swayed...
...And finally turned his head toward the sink and sneezed. Within seconds, small dents began to appear in the metal of an unfortunate pot which happened to be in the way.
Luna simply projected concern as she attempted to wriggle out of her high-chair.
His ears twitched rather spastically and his tail bristled as Jo adjusted the bedsheet. Pleasepleasepleaseplease let that stay in place!
His attention shifted to the pot Jo had just sneezed on, one eye developing a small twitch. That couldn't be real - it was melting?!
Something Junyi had said tugged at the back of his mind, and he frowned at the pot-melting fellow. "Er... Are you Jo?" ..though even if he were Jo, it wouldn't explain why he was nearly naked.
He swiveled an ear toward Luna as she squirmed in her seat, trying to project some soothing emotions at her.
Jokeph nodded slowly, and then began rummaging through the cabinets.
He obviously wasn't over his fever; if he were, he wouldn't be peeling paint and boring holes into the wood at the rate he was.
crying , said Luna, finally giving up and slumping back into her seat to bat at her Cheerios.
Sick Jo did not a happy Luna make.

He sighed in relief, glad that it wasn't some creepy man who'd broken into the house. He supposed now he could see why Junyi had said not to touch him... "Er..why don't you go lay back down, sir? I can make you your soup and bring it up to you, okay?" Hopefully Jo wouldn't dissolve the bed before then. Jo quirked an eyebrow, and quickly resumed glaring suspiciously at Cyrus.
He wasn't leaving his precious mistress alone with that stranger. stare
sweatdrop
Cyrus, a bit less wary of anything Jo might do to Luna now, began edging slowly towards the stove. "Er...well.. Sit down, at least..? You shouldn't be up while you're sick." A wary glance at the bedsheet. He wasn't going to dissolve that too, was he? "Lots of pepper in your soup, right?" Only slightly reassured by the concern Cyrus was showing for Luna, Jokeph sat on the kitchen floor. He still eyed Cyrus suspiciously, but no longer seemed murderous.
At least he wasn't damaging the floor.
The sheet, however, would soon have to be replaced.
Luna, on the other hand, was hungry. :/
Cyrus eyed the sheet warily. It seemed the gods were hellbent against him today.
Pointedly looking away, he went about retrieving the soup and pouring it into a pot to warm - it was just one can of water, wasn't it? Sure, he could read the directions, but those were for losers. It looked about right, anyway. He shook in some pepper and glanced back at Luna.
Does Luna want babyfood, or milk? :O
:O! Luna desired applesauce.
........And she also wanted what Jo's having. 4laugh !
Together!
Applesauce. That'd be easy enough.. He started toward the pantry in search of some, pausing for a moment at the addition to Luna's request.
>_>
Cyrus doesn't think Luna will like what Jokeph's having.
Luna WANT! scream
Once again, the glare returned.
Cyrus winced, retrieving the applesauce and starting to fumble through the cabinets for a bowl. Where were they? He threw a rather tense, wary glance in Jokephs direction before peeking into another cupboard.
Cyrus thinks Luna might like the applesauce better alone. It won't be as sweet with Jokeph's food in it.
But Luna WANTED it! crying
At this, Jokeph angrily leapt to his feet, forgetting even his own illness as he grabbed the pepper and began to take it to Luna. stressed
sweatdrop But it's too hot, an-
Hey!
Cyrus reached out reflexively to Jokeph, falling a bit short of actually touching him. He'd forgotten for a moment that just minutes earlier the man's sneeze had eaten through a metal pot. "That'll burn her mouth!" he snapped, also forgetting that this man could probably dissolve him with minimal effort.
He'd kick himself in a moment.
Luna immediately took the pepper and stuffed the shaker into her mouth, projecting happy, contented th--
....The powder was tickling her throat.
She coughed slightly, sending a spray of hot pepper into the air and the bottle to the high-chair's tray.
........Taaaaaaaasty. ^________^
Jokeph shot one last glare at Cyrus, as if to say "I told you so," and bent down to re-wrap himself in the sheet.
gonk Junyi was going to ki-!
...>___> TASTY?
Cyrus sighed heavily, leaning against one of the counters for a moment with a defeated look. ...though he was quite relieved Jokeph was decently covered again. He turned and spooned some of the applesauce into a bowl, pausing to stir Jo's soup for a moment before carrying Luna's food over to her.
He righted the pepper shaker and spooned up a bit of the sauce, glancing up at Luna with a vague smile. "Open up."
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! blaugh
Luna seemed to be in much better spirits now that Jo was up and about and--
......@_____@ Jo very slowly stumbled back to his bedroom.
Aw. D:
His smile brightened a bit, and he fed Luna the bit of applesauce.
He glanced back at Jokeph as he stumbled off, the fur on his tail finally starting to smooth out a bit. "Er.. I'll bring you your soup in a bit," he said, already turning back to give Luna some more sauce.
Already brightening, Luna began to devour the poor, defenseless applesauce.
After all, she got to see her darling Jo, and that's ALMOST as good as having everyone here!
And the new fwiend didn't seem so bad, even if he didn't give Luna the pepper. crying
They should play, she decided matter-of-factly. Play LOTS.
Cyrus relaxed visibly as Luna brightened, apparently quite content to sit there feeding her. So long as nothing else went wrong, or crazy, it'd be fine.
Except that he still had to take Jokeph his soup. >_> He paused a moment and projected a curious feeling. Where was Melody?
Focusing on Luna again, he smiled. They could play as soon as she finished eating. And Cyrus would even let luna pick the game! biggrin

:O? Luna wondered this as well!
A very faint (but chilled-sounding) giggle emanated from the fridge. There was a long pause for a moment, one ear twitching towards the fridge. That couldn't be right. Melody wouldn't be dense enough to hide in there.
...though, if he was wrong about that, Boyan would likely kill him.
He leapt up from the chair he'd been sitting in, leaving Luna with the applesauce while he yanked the fridge door open.
Cy-rus was s-supposed to go l-looking for Melo s-s-sooner! T-that's the p-point of the game!
......Melo is cold. gonk !!!
Cyrus managed to restrain himself enough to lift Melody gently out of the fridge, much as he'd have liked to yank her out and scold her just then. He nudged the fridge shut and frowned down at Melody, ears pinning back reflexively.
>OO Didn't Melody know how dangerous that was?! She could've run out of air or frozen to death!
...and where are the blankets? Cyrus needs to warm Melody up now.
...........Melo could just take a warm bath.
....And she wasn't THAT cold.
.......And she wasn't THAT stupid.
Cyrus could've found her if he were paying attention. Nyeh.
With that, she skipped off.
Meanwhile, Luna decided she was going to feed HERSELF.
The results, of course, were disasterous.
>OO NO MORE HIDING IN FRIDGES FOR MELODY. And she'd better go take that warm bath right now!
Cyrus grumbled quite audibly as he turned to stir the soup again, turning the heat under it down a bit. He'd take that up to Jo aft-
gonk ! What did Luna do?!
Uh oh. o_o
Luna held up an applesauce-covered hand.
She can feed herself! blaugh
He sighed heavily, ears and tail drooping as he took in the messy baby. ...he'd take care of that as soon as he brought Jo his soup... It'd burn if he left it on the stove any longer - he was sure of that. And he could take the chance to figure out where the damned bathroom was too.
He pulled down another bowl and spooned some soup into it, glancing towards Luna for a moment as though to make sure she hadn't somehow escaped the confines of her highchair. She wouldn't be able to get out of that while he was gone, right..?
>_>...... Luna needs to stay right there. Cyrus will be right back.
He hesitated only a moment longer before starting off in the direction Jokeph had gone. His bedroom was somewhere upstairs, wasn't it?
The trail of bleached carpet would give away Jo's location.
However, if Cyrus were to peek inside the room, he would quickly find that Jokeph was QUITE asleep, and didn't look like he'd be waking up for quite a long time.
Cyrus did glance into the room, and rather suddenly felt like simply sitting on the floor and doing nothing else. Still, he slipped in quietly, setting the bowl of soup down on the nightstand and slipping back out. Hopefully it wouldn't be too cold when Jokeph woke up.
He spent a few brief minutes hunting around for a spare bathroom, hurrying back to the kitchen to check on Luna as soon as he'd located an empty one.
Luna glanced up when Cyrus returned, holding out her arms expectantly.
.....She was getting tired of sitting in the high-chair. sweatdrop
.......And she felt sticky.
...........Ew.
Cyrus lifted Luna out of the highchair with another faint smile, cradling her carefully as he started back towards the bathroom.
Cyrus would make sure she got nice and clean now. 3nodding
:O! Did this mean... BATH TOYS?
Luna could barely contain her glee.
He chuckled softly and set her down on the floor of the bathroom for a moment while he started the water running, checking to make sure it wasn't too hot or cold.
biggrin Luna can play with all the bath toys she wants.
:O!!!!
Okay, this grown-up was OFFICIALLY awesome.
With an excited mental squeal, Luna reached for a netted bag that hung from a hook on the back of the door- filled with plastic balls and a single rubber ducky.
Luna waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant! 4laugh
He took the bag down and held it open for Luna while the tub filled a bit.
Luna can pick one to have now. :3 She can have the rest when she gets in the tub.
DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!
Well, that was easy enough. He handed her the duck and dropped a few of the balls into the tub.
Cyrus turned back around to work on getting her out of her clothes, hoping she wouldn't put up too much of a fuss.
For once, Luna was a perfect little angel, simply content to gum the duck as she was undressed.
Mmmmmmmm, duckieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. whee
He grinned then, ears pricking forward as he got her settled into the bathseat, feeling incredibly thankful that she was behaving now.
He pulled up his sleaves and reached for a washcloth, going about gently washing the applesauce away.
Although Luna was previously excited about the prospect of playing in the tub, she sat absolutely still at that point, simply gnawing on her duck as she was cleaned.
Her eyelids were drooping somewhat as her chewing grew more lethargic.
Cyrus eyed Luna with a vaguely relieved look. If she was falling asleep then it meant this was all nearly over, and he could put a good amount of distance between himself and the pot-destroying man!
He checked to make sure there weren't any remnants of her dinner left on her before he lifted her from the tub and wrapped her in a towel.
..and realized he hadn't a clue where her room was. He couldn't just dress her in her dirty clothes again...
.....>_> Melody?
As if the thought conveniently summoned her, Melody appeared at the doorway of the bathroom, wrapped in a fuzzy robe.
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssss? :B
Cyrus smiled at her, glad to see she'd at least gone and warmed herself up.
Does Melody know where Luna's room is?
Yes! It's the room right next to Jo's! It has a little butterfly sticker on it; Cyrus can't miss it.
.....Is everything all right?
Cyrus threw a wary glance at Jo's room. >_> ...he probably wasn't awake anyway. He sighed and walked over to Luna's room, glancing inside as though he expected some other vicious pot-melting man to leap out at him.
Everything was fine right now. So long as no more of Luna's guardians get angry at him. >_> Cyrus just needs clean clothes for Luna now.
Melo will find Luna's pajamas!
With a flourish, she skipped to the dresser and pulled out the cutest, fuzziest, most purple set of feety pajamas she could find.
Awwww, wouldn't Luna look so cute in this? blaugh

Cyrus blinked slowly at the pajamas. ...at least they were clean, and that was all he really wanted right now.
Those look fine. 3nodding But Luna needs a diaper first.
They're on the changing table! 4laugh
Anything else Cyrus needs help with? 4laugh
Oh, of course. The changing table.. Why hadn't he thought of that?
:3 No, Cyrus thinks he can handle it from here.
He layed Luna down on the changing table and reached for a diaper, eyeing it a bit warily. Hopefully she wouldn't fill it immediatly like babies on TV did.
ninja , said Luna.
She, however, didn't seem like she was going to do anything of the sort.
Cyrus shot Luna a wary frown as he put the diaper on her, hesitating a moment before picking up the pajamas. He stared at them for a few moments before figuring out just how they were supposed to go on and started putting them on the girl.
...... stare That diaper better stay clean for a while.
ninja ninja ............
..............
.....................z.
Cyrus sent up a silent prayer of thanks to whichever god had seen fit to send Luna to sleep.
He carefully finished putting the jammies on Luna, not wanting to wake her, and then carried her across the room to her crib. He slipped out of the room, shutting the door quietly behind himself. Now he supposed he could just wait around downstairs until Junyi got home.
Melody peered at Cyrus, tilting her head to the side.
.......Does Cyrus need anything? Snacks?
He glanced down at Melody and smiled wearily, his tail giving a half-hearted wag.
Cyrus was mostly tired right now. But a snack would be nice. ninja
Melody learned how to cook grilled cheese! She could make that!
With that, she scampered off to the kitchen, a bounce in her step as she giggled faintly.
whee Cyrus loves grilled cheese!
Though that has more to do with it being one of the few things he can make without burning than actual flavor. But he's not about to tell Melody that.
He followed her into the kitchen and sank into one of the chairs, taking the chance to relax for a few minutes.
Melody glanced at Cyrus as she began buttering the bread.
......Sorry; this is the only thing she can make without setting the kitchen on fire. sweatdrop
Cyrus doesn't mind. He eats grilled cheese a lot at home. :3 He's just glad he can have any sort of snack right now.
...... sweatdrop He'd been getting hungry.
Melo too. She had to go into Jo's room and force-feed him his soup. sweatdrop
...It smelled really good, but the lat time Melo made soup, nobody wanted to eat it.
She forgot to add water.
But this time is different, because she knew how to make grilled cheese!
She carefully scooped a finished sandwich onto a plate.
See? blaugh
Cyrus grinned sheepishly and took the sandwich.
:3 It looks really good.
Cyrus can only cook things that come out of cans and boxes and stuff. >.>
Melo has trouble with anything that isn't grilled cheese.
Once, she tried to make a cake...
...The results weren't pretty.
But!
She scooped another sandwich onto a plate.
She can cook this, and that's all that matters.
.....Did Junyi say what time she was coming home?
He bit eagerly into his sandwich and chewed contently, glancing briefly at the clock.
No, she didn't. She was in a really big rush to leave sweatdrop
...Guh...
Melo hoped everything was all right.
After all, Junyi was usually back by this time...
Another bite. Chew~
<_< Maybe Junyi fell asleep at work? She looked really tired when she left.
...Maybe...
Melody sighed, sinking into one of the kitchen chairs and taking a bite of sandwich.
...She hoped nothing went wrong.
Cyrus sighed and leaned over to pat Melody's shoulder reassuringly.
Cyrus is sure Junyi is fine. She probably just had to put in some overtime.
Melo hoped not. ._. Junyi was already running herself ragged.
A pause.
......And Melo missed her daddy, too. .___.
;o; Cyrus is sure Boyan and Junyi will be home as soon as they can. Melody shouldn't worry.
Junyi finally opened the front door, leaning against the doorframe for support as she slowly took off her shoes and walked inside.
"We're home," she mumbled weakly, head drooping. "Was everything okay? Did Luna behave? Did Jokeph give you any trouble?"
Cyrus wandered toward the front door at the sound of Junyi's voice, still chewing on the bite of his sandwich. He at least thought enough to swallow before speaking though. "Uh. Yeah, it was okay," he said. No need to bring up the pot-melting. Or the pepper. Or anything, really. "Um..I don't know if Jo got his medicine yet.. Melody fed him though. And Luna's asleep in her crib now."
Yeu lazily follows Junyi in the door, pocketing her keys and dragging her luggage behind her. Her eyes set on the strange boy in her house.
"Hi, nice to meet you, I'm Yeu. Luna's fath... mothe... parent." Yeu smiles gentle at the boy, holding out her hand. "So you are the unlucky soul Junyi tricked into babysitting?"
He glanced at Yeu, blinking just a bit at the odd introduction as he accepted the offered handshake. "Er..yeah. I'm Cyrus. Nice to meet you too, ma'am."
"I hope Luna and Jokeph or anyone else didn't give you too much trouble." Yeu said again, then turn to Junyi. "Are you paying Cyrus anything for doing us a favor?"
"Y......Yeah," Junyi answered a bit shakily as she fumbled for her wallet. "How much do I owe you, Cyrus?"
There was another slow blink at the exchange between the two. He frowned a bit worriedly at Junyi, absently hoping she got some rest soon, and shrugged a bit. It wasn't as though he'd had any experience with babysitting fees before. "Er.. I dunno, I guess fifteen bucks..?"
Junyi quickly pulled out a twenty, pushing it into Cyrus's palm. "Thank you so much for coming on short notice," she answered, her voice practically a whisper.
Cyrus pocketed the twenty and pricked his ears toward Junyi to hear her whisper. "It was no problem," he said with a reassuring smile. He glanced between her and Yeu for a moment, debating asking if things were alright. The idea seemed to leave him rather quickly though. "You can call again some time if you need to," he offered instead.
"We will," came the tired reply. "The house isn't on fire, so you must've done a good job," she joked weakly.
"Don't make yourself too available." Yeu jokes. "We might just take you up on that."
"Yeah, well..." He trailed off, beginning to feel rather awkward just standing there. "Um. I think Melody's still in the kitchen.." He shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "I guess if that's it I'll just go. I can walk home."
"You sure?" Junyi asked sleepily. "Leave a message when you get home to let me know you got there all right."
Cyrus offered another reassuring smile, swishing his tail absently. "I'll be fine. I go everywhere on my own. Maybe I'll see you at the clinic some time," he added as an afterthought. It probably wouldn't be as bad as babysitting them, at least. He gave the couple one final glance before slipping out the door, heaving a relieved sigh at surviving the night as he started home.
Junyi smiled after him, already starting toward the couch.
"Could you check on her?" she mumbled to Yeu as she sank into the cushions. "I'm too tired."
"Me too." Yeu agrees, rubbing her eyes. "I'm going to bed right after making sure she's and others are okay. And you should probably check up on Jokeph too."
"I'll do it... in the morning..."
z.
Shaking her head lightly, Yeu drags her legs towards the children's nursery, also yearning for the comfort of her bed.

This took up nearly half of my first journal, so I hope you can understand why I took the liberty of breaking it up into slightly more manageable chunks.
I don't remember Cyrus at all, unfortunately; I was far too young and my time with him far too short. Melody, on the other hand, remembers him fondly as someone who was once friends with her father.
I wonder how he's doing...
Also, it's worth noting that while mother was pregnant with me, there was a massive event that affected the Porcelain on Gaia; my brother, Boyan, was a grown man with a wife and two children of his own before I was even conceived, and Melody was growing into a young lady. After this event, everyone was reborn, in a sense, becoming children again despite their age and marital status. So it was that when I was born, both Boyan and Melody were closer to my age than they should have been.
Due to the strange nature of Gaia and this "Silver world" they sometimes travel to these days (but mostly the strange nature of Gaia), Melody is physically about my age (actually, I think she may be a little younger), and Boyan appears to be about a decade or so older than me.
And while we're on the subject, Jokeph hasn't aged at all in all my years of knowing him. And it seems I'm slowly catching up to Mother...
Just another oddity of Gaia, I suppose.

02.25.05 Meanwhile, while Cyrus is babysitting Luna...
She noticed it on the way back home as she stared at a photo of the happy family. It was one of her favorites because Luna was looking particularly adorable in that picture and she always carried it with her. It came to her quite suddenly as she continued to stare at the photo... it just seemed... off somewhat. Then she noticed it, and made the quickest change to her schedule so she could catch Junyi, no matter where the other was now.
"Ugh, what a night," Junyi groaned, slumping in the clinic's break room. She was exhausted. She was ready to die. And to top it all off, she just couldn't make herself reach for the phone to check on the babysitter.
I really shouldn't have dumped all that on poor Cyrus. But he was the oldest kid I know... I'll have to get him a card or something.
Ugh... don't want to go home.
Standing outside the clinic, Yeu dug out her cell phone. Wonderful little thing it is, and she got to attach all kinda of strange stuff she found on her travels to it. Right now she quickly entered a number into the phone and pressed dial, then waited impatiently as the tone told her that it was dialling.
Craaaaaaaaaaaap... my cell phone. With a sigh, Junyi didn't even bother checking the number; she simply flipped the phone open, pressed "talk", and put the receiver to her ear.
"Is everything all right, Cyrus?"
"............. Cyrus?" A almost sarcastic voice came through the reciver.
"Oh!" Junyi exclaimed, snapping awake. "Sorry, Yeu. I thought you were the babysitter. What's up?"
"... And who is this babysitter? Where did you meet him? Why do we need one?"
Junyi rolled her eyes. "His name's Cyrus. He's the son of one of the other mothers here. He's a friend of Boyan's, and I met him here at the clinic after that weird incident when he was a kid." A pause. "And we needed a sitter because Jokeph's really sick and I don't trust Melo or Yun to run the household while I'm gone."
"I just called to tell you that I decided to come home early..." The tone definitly hinted that there was more that Yeu wanted to say but didn't.
"Um..." Junyi paused, frowning. "Okay? I won't be home until kinda late; I'm still stuck at work."
"I'm right outside."
"...Oh!" Junyi quickly leapt to her feet, throwing her coat on over her shoulders. "I'll be right out. I'm on break though, so make it quick, okay?" With that, she quickly ran outside, still keeping the phone pinned between her shoulder and her ear.
"Okay. Bye." With that, Yeu pressed the 'disconnect' botton and waited quietly at the opposite corner from the clinic, with her hands in her pockets and her luggage still at her side.
The phone was still on when Junyi finally jogged to meet Yeu. "Is something wrong? Did something happen? What's going on?"
"Oh, I just thought... I should catch you on break since I can make it." Pause. "So how have you been?"
"Good, I guess," Junyi answered awkwardly. "Run a little ragged, what with two jobs and a sick guardian on my hands. .....You?"
"Same old, same old." Yeu shurgs. "I just thought that... since I'm always away for long periods of time... maybe you get lonely?"
Well, THAT was odd. "Um... of course?" Junyi replied, eyes narrowing. "But I had Boyan, Melody, Anandra, and Tsukiba there to keep me company. I knew you'd be back soon, so I could handle it."
"........Why?"
"So how are Yun and the others, are you looking after Lawfer and Lezard for me? Or are you too busy?"
"I..." Junyi trailed off. "I... checked in a bit, but... I..." A pause. "What's this about?"
"I was just wondering maybe you know... I should be home more..." Yeu looked away. "Maybe like... so you won't be so busy... and I still pile stuff on you... and Lawfer and Lezard are still babies too, like Luna... they need people to take care of them..."
"Bullshit," Junyi answered matter-of-factly. "Tell me the truth. What is this about?"
Yeu doesn't look too please at her words. "I take it then you don't want me to be home that much."
"Of course I do!" Junyi answered, exasparated. "But that's NOT what you're trying to tell me. You are so OBVIOUS." She folded her arms arcoss her chest. "Tell me what this is REALLY about. NOW."
Yeu slowly took out the photo from her back pocket, it had seen better days and was showing much wear. The woman handed the photo over. "Do you remember the day we took this picture, Jun?"
"Heh, yeah!" Junyi murmured, smiling faintly. "You'd come home early and we were all happy to see you. I remember Luna was THRILLED. We couldn't seem to pry her off you."
"Did you notice anything about the picture that seemed... off?"
Junyi peered at the photo. "........No?"
"Try again." Yeu said softly.
".........I... really can't see anything odd."
Yeu points gently to where little strands of Luna's hair is showing. "How about here?"
"I... It's... multicolored?" A shrug. "Um, duh?"
"What color are those?"
Junyi rolled her eyes. "Pink and black. So? Why are you asking me a bunch of questions about our daughter's hair?"
"Where did those colors come from?"
"...............Genetics?"
"Ya, I can understand the black is from me... or should be, but how about the pink?"
"Well, one would guess that's from me," Junyi sighed, rolling her eyes.
"Your hair is red."
"Yeah? So?"
"That's not pink."
"Are you implying I'm not the mother?" Junyi laughed.
"No, the other way around." Yeu somehow said it with a stoic face.
Junyi opened her mouth to say something, but quickly realized no words would come. She simply stared at Yeu, eyes wide, mouth open, and her mind completely BLANK.
Finally, when the shock passed, she burst out laughing.
"What?" Yeu finally sounds a bit annoyed.
"Is this a JOKE?"
"No."
Junyi's smile faded. "......You... You really think I..."
"Well, I'm trying to come up with a logical explanation." Yeu shrugged. "I only have black-hair genes in my family, I'm sure of that. And no genes that would lighten red hair."
Junyi was speechless for a moment.
"...Yeu, hair can DARKEN with age. Look at Vilden; his hair is extremely dark... and he was born BLONDE."
"I'm just saying what I think. She does have half human genes... or suppose to."
"She does," Junyi argued. "If you want a stupid paternity test to ease your mind, I'm up for that." Her cheeks began to flush with anger. "But honestly, Yeu, what the HELL?! You can READ MY MIND. You would KNOW if something were up! Luna recognized you as part of her when she was still in the womb; I would think that's pretty strong evidence that she's your kid!"
She took a shaky breath, her eyes filling with angry tears. "I thought you knew me better than that. You know that I would never... could never..." She wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, still shaking.
"And you know my abilities are about as good as..." She paused. "Well, NOW I can read what's going on."
Junyi couldn't answer; she was too wrapped up in struggling to keep from bawling out loud. This was simply too much for her.
But it provided Yeu's duller than dull ability to finally kick in and read the thoughts racing through Junyi's head... although it was a bit not making sense in there right now...
"I'm going home," Junyi whispered, still wiping her eyes frantically. Screw break. She'd just clock out early and just work a double shift to make up for it. Yeah. That would work. She just didn't think she could handle another SECOND at work in this state.
"No wait!" Yeu said, grabbing Junyi's arm firmly.
"What?!" Junyi finally shouted, whirling around. "What do you want NOW?!"
"Look, I'm sorry okay?" Yeu said evenly. "It was wrong of me to say that."
"No s**t!"
"I would let you punch me for me saying it but I remember your punches hurt a lot."
"You insult my HONOR and you think a punch is going to make it all better?" Junyi shot back, jerking her arm away. "God, Yeu, do you even know me at ALL?"
"I was just joking!" Yeu rolls her eyes. "And I never really actually said it you know..."
"The implication was there," Junyi growled. "That alone is enough of an insult."
"I know and I'm sorry." Yeu rubbed her forehead with her palm. "I don't know what's gotten into me lately, I'm just a mess..."
Junyi sighed, glancing away. "Just... Come on. You know me better than that!"
"I know I know." Yeu squeezed her eyes shut and tried to shake her head clear. The woman looked quite stressed, with light black rings around her eyes.
"We'll talk about it later," Junyi finally murmured. "...I'm going to clock out. I'll just... pull a double shift tomorrow or something."
"So we can go home together?"
".........Yeah. Sure."
"So... err... who's home right now anyway?" Yeu asks again.
"Cyrus. He's taking care of Luna and Jokeph."
"Ahhh..." Yeu nodded lightly, then sudden thoughts occurred to her. "You said Jokeph's sick... I hope he's not..."
"...He's just peeling paint and destroying sheets. After the third set of clothes, we just gave up," Junyi laughed nervously.
Yeu paled a little at the damages.
"...I'll pay for the repairs."
"That's not what I'm worried about..." Yeu shook her head, trying to stop herself from putting the damages ahead of others' wellbeing. "It's just that... how can we... anyone help him without losing a arm?"
"I can handle it."
"You better not burn yourself." Yeu said. "I got acid spilled on me once and it hurts like hell."
"I'll be fine," came the tired reply.
"Go get your stuff." Sighing, Yeu finally said after a short pause. "I'm hungry, can I start paying back for my stupidity with a dinner?"
As much as Junyi wanted to stay angry... she just didn't have the energy. "...Yeah.. sure. I guess that's a start," she mumbled, her lips curling upward in a halfhearted smile.
"And I need a new traveling pillow." Yeu said, not really following any particular line of thought.
"Yeah... okay," Junyi mumbled, eyelids drooping.
"Come on, Jun." Yeu said, giving Junyi a light smile and a gentle push. "Get your stuff, we are grabbing anything you want tonight."
"'Kay...."

"You're lucky I make house calls, Miss Keth," Lillian murmured, taking Luna in her arms and gently cradling the infant. "Rather, you're lucky I was in the area. Can't you make an appointment like normal people? Better yet; can't you simply take your daughter to HUMAN doctors?"
The comment stung, whether Lillian meant it to or not. "I... I just thought you'd..." Junyi stuttered, wringing her hands nervously. "I thought you'd be able to explain why she's so strong mentally. Why she's so advanced."
"The answer is simple; it's no wonder you haven't figured it out," came the easy reply. "Your mind is weak. That is a fact. Your family line is QUITE strong. That also is a fact. One would think such things would be mutually exclusive, no?" A sigh. "There are quirks in genetics that even we can't control. The good news is it apparently isn't hereditary."
"...And the bad news is..."
"Yes. It doesn't help YOU any." With that, Lillian continued peering at Luna, a portable scanner in one hand. "...Odd."
"What? What is it?" Junyi asked worriedly.
Lillian frowned. "It's no wonder she isn't babbling at all. The speech center of her brain is extremely underdeveloped."
"Oh my god..."
"...But her language capabilities are fine, oddly enough..." Lillian's brow furrowed as she stared at the scanner. "...Now... this is EXTREMELY odd." A pause. "Take a look at this."
Junyi shakily peered over Lillian's shoulder, biting her lip. "What is..." She suddenly drew in a sharp breath. "Oh my god, is that...?"
"The area for so-called 'psychic' abilities? It most certainly is." Lillian couldn't help but smile faintly. "I think anyone without any medical background would be able to see that it's highly developed- at this age, even. That would explain... a hell of a lot, actually."
"...Thank you for putting it into plain English," Junyi mumbled sheepishly, "But I think you need to dumb it down a little more for me. What does it explain?"
Lillian blinked. "You can't hear? She's projecting word fragments."
Junyi's jaw nearly hit the floor for the second time that day. "She... She's...."
"A telepath. Didn't you mention her father was one?"
"Yes, but... not much of one, I thought. I... I didn't even hear her pr--"
"Obviously," came the reply. "There are enhancements that can be made, Miss Keth. Hearing aids, so to speak. If you want to hear your daughter, I suggest you accept our assistance." Lillian smiled gently. "No surgeries, no implants. All external devices. What do you s--"
"But what about LUNA?" Junyi suddenly snapped. "I want to hear my daughter without having to strain myself. Will she speak?"
A long pause. "...Yes. I believe so."
"So--"
"--It will be difficult," Lillian interrupted. "It will take her much longer than the other children, and even then, she will have much difficulty. I don't know how; all I know is that she will likely be very difficult to understand when she DOES speak. Even if she does overcome those obstacles, I doubt it will come easily to her."
She sighed. "...Take our assistance. For your daughter's sake. There is no shame in requiring such aids."
Junyi let out a breath she was unaware she was holding. "...What could've caused this?"
"You tell me, Miss Keth. Ramory told me about the incident at the mansion. About... zombies, was it?" A pause. "...No... that couldn't have done it. That would've DAMAGED the brain."
Lillian peered at Junyi, eyes narrowing. "So. You tell me. What happened?"
Junyi stared at Lillian blankly a moment before finally answering. "...There was an attack on our minds. A long time ago; I've mostly blocked it out," she admitted. "There was a crazy woman in the clinic... she forced her way into our minds. I couldn't--"
Lillian's eyes widened slightly and she brought a hand to her lips, pulling Luna close with the other. "...That... would explain so much," she whispered. "I'd never seen it in practice; never on Neilan. Such people simply don't exist." She bit her lip. "But here..."
"What?" Junyi asked frantically. "What is it?"
"There is a theory," Lillian began. "When Luna's mind was attacked, and when the mother could not defend her... she had to protect herself somehow."
"The developing mind of an unborn Neilani is a very strange thing. Able to adapt and restructure in order to protect itself. What I believe happened is that her mind had to divert its resources away from non-essential areas in order to strengthen her abilities." A smile. "Of course, with a mind that strong... speech isn't that essential at all, is it?"
"You're saying that the only reason Luna is as strong as she is is because she was attacked?"
"That's the theory, yes. I will have to study her further if we want to be completely accurate, but I don't feel it's necessary. All the evidence seems to point in that direction- even if it is 'just a theory'."
With a smile, she placed Luna in Junyi's arms once more.
"You have too much to worry about at the moment; no use adding this to your growing list. Don't think I can't sense the other child sleeping in the living room."
"I..."
"You'll have your hands full, Miss Keth. I suggest you get some rest. I will send the enhancements as soon as possible." Lillian stood, turning toward the door. "If you'll excuse me, I have other business to attend to."
A dark smile crossed her face as she glanced in the direction of the upstairs. "And remember, I'm still dying to meet that guardian of yours..."

03.07.05 - Journal Entry Junyi
I'm not entirely sure how this happened, but I have another child.
I was in a stationary store to pick up a pen for Jokeph; one he wouldn't corrode. Something glass.
A room seemed to beckon to me. I heard a voice and came across a strange book that asked me the classic "Gee, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?". How could I not reply? How could I not write that response? It was BEGGING to be written.
A child appeared shortly afterward. I thought it was all a prank; surely she was the one who orchestrated everything.
I learned later that it wasn't the case.
I'm still trying to come to grips with all of it. Trying to explain it to myself. There are apparently many others like her; born from a tome. If they're born from a tome, conceived by the thoughts of another...
I'm a father.
Oh my god, I'm a father.
She already had a name when she emerged; oddly enough, it was a name that I probably would've come to myself. Ying.
I am both relieved and annoyed that she appeared more grown than an infant. I would assume she's three years old, maybe? At least she's not as dependent on my care as Luna is, but at the same time, she requires my attention in so many other ways.
Luna is sweet. She may be fussy at times, but still a very sweet baby. Yeu and I are lucky to have her. It would be something to adjust to, but I could have another baby like her.
Ying, however, is an absolute terror. Of course she's a good kid at heart; anyone can see that. She's fiercely protective of Luna (I find it quite amusing that she uses Edae to refer to her), which I think is exceptionally sweet.
That doesn't make her any less of a terror. I bought toys for her; she completely dismantled them. ALL OF THEM. She's been putting them back together, but still! SHE TAKES EVERYTHING APART.
And then there's the lighter. Where in the hell did she get a LIGHTER? HOW in the hell did she get a lighter? Every time I hide the damn thing, she finds it again. Why is my second child playing with a lighter?! She hasn't yet burned herself, but she DID set fire to my napkin holder. And all the napkins in it.
I have to keep my attention on her at all times or she'll burn the house down. It doesn't matter where I put the damn thing; she just finds it again.
She broke into a LOCKBOX, for crying out loud!
Oy gevalt.

It was a long way down.
Thanks to the night light in the room she now shared with Ying, Luna could easily see the stuffed animals she had pushed through the bars of her crib and onto the floor, creating the perfect cushion for a baby in need of escape.
Or so Luna hoped.
Still, it LOOKED safe. With a frown, Luna pulled herself up, grasping the wooden bars for support. Placing one foot carefully on one of the toys mounted to the crib, she pushed herself up and over the top of the crib, letting out a mental squeal as she suddenly found herself tumbling toward the plushies below.
This was i--
Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak!
One of the dolls had voiced its protest to the sudden weight flung onto it, but Luna barely noticed. Still dazed from the fall, she rolled on her stomach and pushed herself up on her hands and knees. No pain; no damage.
No problem.
She crawled for the door, casting glances at Ying's sleeping form as she began the great escape; after all, she knew she would be in BIG trouble in the morning.
However...
She pulled herself once more, using the doorknob as a handhold as she fumbled with the polished brass. Turning it first one way, and then the other, her frown deepened as the door didn't seem to budge. Finally, with a violent turn fueled by desperation, the door slowly creaked open, sending Luna back to the floor in an ungraceful heap.
Luna didn't even bother attempting to shut the door; she simply crawled toward the next door. Letting out a quiet projection of relief finding the door was already partially open, she pushed her way inside.
She was greeted by the quiet breathing of Jokeph, sprawled out on his stomach in the middle of his bed. On one of the bedposts rested Zohar, the ever-present Nightmare.
Taking special care to be quiet, Luna continued crawling forward until she was inches away from the comforter draped over Jokeph's sleeping form. She reached outward with one chubby hand, gripping the fabric as she pulled herself up once more. The comforter gave as she pulled, but she didn't care. She was almost there. Almost--
The sudden rush of cold jerked Jokeph awake, and his head immediately snapped toward the mind that was so dangerously close to him. One hand clenched, ready to attack...
...And he quickly relaxed, seeing just who the intruder was.
You should be in your OWN bed, he signed, knowing full well that Luna wouldn't understand his scolding. He knew why she was here; he knew what she was trying to do.
And although he was bothered by the notion of Luna being able to crawl out of her crib- just the possible INJURIES that could result...
He smiled.
Still gripping the comforter for dear life, Luna reached out with her other hand, fingers clenching and unclenching as she projected a single word:
Up?
Your mother will scold us, came the signed response, which once again fell on deaf eyes. Still, Jokeph helped Luna into his bed, clutching her protectively with one arm as his eyelids began to droop.
He had no idea why Luna did this; why she found it necessary to...
...Why did he have to dwell on it? Her reasons wouldn't have changed his actions; what Luna wanted from Jokeph, Luna got from Jokeph.
And Luna simply wanted to be held.

03.25.05 - Journal Entry Junyi
It's. Been. So. Hectic.
FINALLY, things seem to be going back to normal. I finally convinced Luna to stop wearing that silly Porcelain makeup and clothing. Nothing wrong with it, of course; if she really wanted to wear it, I wouldn't stop her. But the fact that she really needs to be raised as a human (or a Neilani- meh, same difference) is weighing heavily on my judgement.
I think it's been easier now that Boyan and Melody have moved out. I found them a cute little cottage nearby- I want them to stay nearby in case something goes wrong, but they seem to be enjoying their newfound independence. Boyan's nearly a year old, and Melody a month behind him. Boyan's already been an adult, and Melody close to it. They're old enough to live on their own despite their newly chibi-ed status.
There was a man (He says his name is Runea) I was taking care of while he was recovering from some kind of plague (I didn't get all the details from Trio Maxwell-Chang, but apparently it was something very serious), and now that he's mostly better, he's decided to move in with them. They seem to love him, so I have no problems. After all, they need an adult to look after them anyway.
They recently came to me to show off this child that came from a giant magnet (Huh? I think I interpreted that wrong). She's an adorable little girl; she seems like she'd get along well with Ying if she ever took her headphones off and stopped blaring techno through them.
I can see how she'd get along with Boyan and Melody, though. So many musically inclined people under one roof!
I think they said her name was Arc?
As for Jokeph, he seems to be improving a LOT. He still has a LOT of separation anxiety as far as Luna is concerned, but he's communicating with strangers now! He's able to go into unfamiliar shops and hold a conversation! I am SO proud of him. I think he's starting to smile a bit more, too, which just warms my heart. He's got this gorgeous shy smile, and...
Oops. Gushing.
I've had to start taking Ying to work with me. Jokeph can keep Luna in line (Ha, like she needs to be), but Ying is a whole different story. She knows Jokeph has absolutely NO hold over her, and she uses it to her advantage.
I can't have her setting fires in the bathroom sink. I can't have her taking apart toasters. I just can't have her RAISING HELL and destroying the house.
She hasn't caused too much trouble in the clinic yet, although she has tormented poor Pink. The woman was in the early stages of labor, and Ying just kept hurling insults at her!
In Ying's defense, though, she didn't know. Hell, I didn't know until I turned up the volume on my hearing aid.
Oh god, the hearing aid! I forgot! Commander Haladet sent me my hearing aid! I can't believe I was so against these to begin with! I think I was just wanting to wallow in self-pity or something. Oh my god, this thing is AWESOME! I can HEAR Luna! I can hear EVERYTHING! Well, not everything, but I'm almost normal! Still a LITTLE hard of hearing projections, but still leaps and bounds over what I could hear normally! It's WONDERFUL!
...Er. Ahem.
Back to the point, Pink's having her baby! I'm so happy for her! And I could sense it happening!
And now, back to Ying, because I apparently can't be coherent today.
She's pilfered a plushie from Luna's hoarde. I normally would be quite angry with that, but Luna seems happy to share with Ying.
Remember that Zhuge Liang plush that Aryn gave Luna? Yeah. It's now Ying's. It's so strange when she holds it; she suddenly becomes calm and.. well... an ideal toddler.
I wonder why it has to be THAT plush? I mean, I would think that if I were to have a plush of a man to calm ME down, it'd be someone youthful, sexy, and probably not dead.
...But that's an entry for another diary, I'm certain.
Signing off!

Why is it that whenever it comes to the safety of my own daughters, I feel so helpless?
A man came to the clinic today. I don't know why he was there. I don't know what he wanted. All I knew was that his desires were in the wrong place and that he had frightened the children.
Is it wrong that I reacted so harshly to him? Is it wrong that I panicked when he advanced on my children and seemed to want to hurt them? Jokeph attacked him, and I could sense Ying's intentions to do the same, but I made sure to get her out of the clinic.
No; I'm certain I did the right thing. He picked up my daughter without permission after all that; after that flash of intent to hurt.
It's a sad state of affairs when I feel the least safe at a clinic. This is the second time something like this had happened.
I'm not entirely sure what happened after that. I remember coming back when all hell broke loose and a real fight was nearly about to happen. I screamed at them to take it outside, and then he passed out.
I don't understand.
All I know is that I'm going to start coming to work armed.
I hate not being able to better protect my children. I hate having to rely on a hearing aid just to sense intent. If I were Vilden...

04.16.05 - Jokeph
What purpose do I have if it's not to protect? If I can't even protect Mistress from the grasp of someone so truly evil, what use am I?
Attacking the filth that dared lay hands on her completely exhausted me. I lost consciousness as soon as I TOUCHED my bed.
I dreamt.
It was night; the grass was soft, the sky was clear and beautiful. So many stars, all different colors.
Mistress was with me, exploring. I was confused.
I remember a flower emerged next to her; miniature lavender. She adored it; as she reached out to grasp it, more popped out of the ground until finally... she appeared.
Dark hair and a scar under one eye. Something about her seemed vaguely familiar. She introduced herself as the Luna Nera.
They both were able to create flowers here; the elder Luna was able to touch flowers and send the petals soaring through the air, while Mistress was able to create daisies. When I touched my hand to the grass, belladonna stared back at me.
There was talk of protecting her; the elder Luna mentioned finding someone to teach Mistress to protect herself.
A wolf guided us home; Mistress on his back, and I flew. It was exhilerating, finally being able to fly... Perhaps I can only do so in dreams.
It's all a blur now; fading so quickly... and I'm so tired...

That was the last entry of my first journal. There was apparently a second, but everything within has been lost to a massive database glitch. The fifteenth page of my first journal was also lost, but I'm not entirely certain whether or not anything of value was lost.
As for the second journal, I can only assume that everything up to the age of eight was within. Then begins my third journal, when I'd just returned from a long stay on the homeworld.
And then, as for Big Little Sister Ying... I'm not sure what she's doing these days. It was so long ago that she left to find her own path, and she hasn't looked back since. I've had not one letter, not one call, not one fleeting sense of her mind...
I wonder how she's doing...
