The Batman gave him an unreadable look and stopped. A moment later, the Joker was being hoisted up by the back of his jacket and carried. Well... he wasn't being dragged anymore.

A few steps later, the clown was tossed into the passenger seat of the Batmobile. The Dark Knight jumped in after him, the top slid closed, the car roared to life, and they shot off like a rocket toward the all too familiar Arkham Asylum.

Joker looked around the Batmobile, whistling. "You know, I think this is the first time I HAVEN'T been unconcious for ninety percent of the trip to Arkham in your car... So THAT'S how you get everything done. So many buttons and switches... I can't even THINK of possible uses for all these things. OOH! OOH! Do you have a Bat-cigarette lighter in here?"

Batman ignored him as per the usual. First of all, the Joker HAD been conscious in the Batmobile. Plenty of times. Well... mostly conscious. A few times.

In any case, while he was careful to keep about a quarter of his attention on the clown and about a quarter of it on the road, a solid half was trying to puzzle things out. New York City and Gotham had... merged? That was the only remotely applicable word he could come up with. Did that mean that this was the beginning of yet another Universe convergence? If that WAS the case (unnecessarily sharp turn), then he had more to worry about than his usual rogues gallery, or even the whole JLA's cumulative list of enemies. This 'witch' Joker was so fixated on could literally be ANYONE. Someone who didn't even exist in the records that he had access to. Which meant...

The clown thumped hard against the side of the Batmobile. "Hey! Watch the road, Guano-head!" He looked down and sighed at the dirt and grime on his pants from getting dragged earlier. "Another suit ruined. Bats, If I ever figure out who you are, the first thing I'm going to do is mail you a bill for all the tailoring I've had to have done on account of you." Shrugging, the Joker continued. "Then again, if I DO find out who you are, I'll also be obligated to kill you immediately, and I can't have that, now can I? You're WAY too much fun alive, and no fun dead. Of course, I might feel differently tomorrow, and then differently again the day after, so who knows?"

... No, that wasn't quite right. Whoever this person was, the Joker KNEW her. Well. Well enough to feel like he needed to make an example out of her. The last time he'd seen the clown this fixated on something that wasn't him, he'd been trying to find one his old business associates. Batman had never gotten all of the particulars, but apparently the man had driven off with the getaway car when he heard the cops arriving. He'd been found about two weeks later in the Gotham river, an awful, fixed smile on his face.

So it was likely that this woman was something similar. She'd betrayed him, and now the Joker had to make her scream. Simple enough logic, in a very 'clown prince of crime' sort of way. "... What did she do?" he asked in a low voice, taking another sharp turn as they left Gotham proper and started driving through skeleton-like trees. "Did she abandon you? Betray you? After you trusted her?"

"That DOES sound like something I would do, doesn't it? How do you know me so WELL? I know I've said it before, but you really ARE the World's Greatest Detective! That MUST be it! The Joker is one of your most dangerous, unpredictable enemies, and yet you insist on me doing the predictable! Maybe I'm talking about Zatanna, or possibly I lied about the magic, and am REALLY going after that Huntress girl that SO reminds me of how YOU were when we first started our relationship, my darling..." Joker mused in a somewhat sing-song voice. Then, his expression brightened even more. "Hey, maybe I'll go after Commissioner Gordon again! He DID disappoint me, what with the complete lack of going mad... All that work... Ah, well, at least his daughter made some lifelong memories with me! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" He DID say that he didn't want to play tonight, but as long as he didn't have a choice, he was going to get as far under the Bat's skin as possible.

The slim black cat sat curled up in his spot, still watching everything around him with a smile on his face.

Cupid had just finished the arrows Amora had wanted, and pulled out a rather intricately designed bow. Amora, who had been watching everything with about as much interest as she had when they arrived, turned and glanced back at him. "Are they ready?"

"Yeah, right here. What goes to who?" Cupid replied, rotating his arms and stretching out a bit. If it was a long distance, this kind of stuff was always strenuous. he was used to simply using his crossbow that he carried on his arm. But, being this far away from everything, he needed to put his own energy behind them.

"Hold the devotion for later..."
she said, turning back to look out at the world. Then, she pointed at the apartment some of the other worldly heroes were living in. "Have nostalgia ready whenever I tell you too, and you may fire heartache off at any point for her." she said, now pointing towards the decrepit looking building Gossamer made her new home.

Cupid let his bright red eyes rest on Sapphire's apartment a moment with an approving little smirk. "Going to make her go down memory lane again, are we? Shouldn't take much to make her depressed at this point, would it?"

"Let her be reminded first. Otherwise it won't make sense if she suddenly can't stop thinking of her old life."

"Right. First thing's first." Cupid said, loading the arrow and pulling the cord back as far as it could possibly go. With his arms moved to as far as the could go, and the strain on the cord as much as he could hold, Cupid trained his eyes on his target. Small white pupils began to glow once he was ready, and the arrow itself began to fade into a clear dust. He paused another moment, then let go of the cord. With a very audible 'THUNK', and a sharp whistle of the arrow cutting through the air, the arrow was off and towards it's target

[enter the Phantom Stranger]

"This is pointless," came a voice from behind all the dieties standing on the roof. Without any warning, the Phantom Stranger was there.

The two dieties of love turned and looked at the man curiously.
The black cat groaned before turning to look at the man. "Really? You're here? Wow." the cat said, sitting up from his spot.

"I'll get rid of him!" Zira volunteered brightly, popping another kernel of popcorn into her mouth. "Been meaning to do it anyway; everything's just so distracting..."

--

Without turning to look at him, Batman flatly stated, "Don't play games with me Joker; neither of us is in the mood for it." For once. Actually, the way Joker was trying to get him off of the subject made him think that he had been absolutely right. As such, he didn't feel the need to follow up with any more questions. He was looking for a woman, a magic user, and someone who had been seen in the Joker's company multiple times over the last few days or so.

"You do not have it within your power," the Stranger said plainly, his expression as blank as his voice. "And I cannot interfere. I can only observe. Everything shall unfold as it will."

The cat blinked. "Soooo....you're just here to grab a chair and a bottle of beer as well? No warnings, not scary guy in a green cloak following you?"

"THAT's right!" Zira said, snapping her fingers. The next second, she had a bottle of something amber in her hands. "HE was the one I didn't like. Killed my beloved Terragon." Giggling at her little joke, she took a sip of the drink.

"The only warning I bear is that this is a waste of your time and talents. As long as there is no gross infraction on your parts, I see no reason why the Spectre would waste his time coming," the Stranger replied.

The cat grinned. "Waste of time and talent? Sir, this is merely for fun. Though, I suppose I could see your point if you addressed it towards other people. Namely those sitting in front of a keyboard, but I know for a fact that one of them has nothing but free time for a week, so...." he said, then paused a moment. "Nevermind. Point is, we don't mind that we're wasting our talent. I for one, and lavishing being out and about, and want to make the most of it before I have to revert back for whatever reason. Those two.." he said, pointing towards the boy and girl. "Do nothing else."
