Brother William put his face in his hands. It was all over with! Done! But at what cost?
"Inno has saved us all," he said, looking up. "I should have spoken sooner, but had not the courage. May God forgive me. Had I meddled more, tried to alter things, lives might have been saved, but I was weak."
Then again, if I had meddled more, more people might have died.

Azaria stared at the note, she was never one to really believe in religion and stuff. Only facts that she saw with her own too eyes. And this was surely was one to see with her own eyes. It was indeed a sobering sight.
She retreated to her room and clasped the cloak over her shoulders. Azaria wanted away from the monastery, she felt like the things she looked for there hid the truth from her. But the writhing death of Alene seemed so real. And Inno's death... Azaria sighed. He greeted her first when she opened the heaven doors that snow filled night. As crazed as he seemed, a killer he was not. She should have said something, instead she snooped around at night looking for her own answers.
The red-haired woman sighed, she would learn from this. But hoped that no one would ever experience what they lived through.

Theodora's investigations during the night had been bold and dangerous, but she was still able to discover the innocence of some and narrow down her range of suspects. It seemed that her education in logic had paid off. However, Theodora had not been sure enough to convict anyone, so it was a sad sight to see Inno die, no matter how suspicious he was. It wasn't right; there had been no solid evidence. Theodora felt even worse when she saw what a holy man he had been, and she hoped God would forgive her for not investigating him sooner. She might have been able to defend him, then.
But with the death of Alene, Theodora felt a burden lifted; at least her suspicions about her had been correct, and at the noblewoman saw it as a sign that God was still with her, even if she couldn't always tell where His hand was trying to point. Something inside told her that it was time to move on, and she had hope that, one day, she might even be able to return back home.
