Ha! This was going to be an exciting Hatching, after all, Sethal decided as the bronze told his brown clutchmate what-for before getting back to business. And...coming into the stands?

...okay, now that was maybe a little more interesting than Sethal needed. He knew that candidates got mauled and even died during Hatchings, but an aggressive dragonet heading into the stands? Where he was? Yeah, that was a little bit too interesting. Not that there was anything he could do or much of anywhere he could go. But it wasn't a problem, he assured himself. Everything would be fine, right?

The tiny bronze was just having a bit of an adventure on his way to His. As someone who often became sidetracked, he could sort of relate. He didn't usually snap at anyone, though.

Still amused by the green's antics, his smile suddenly turned into a jaw-dropped expression as she bugled at the top of her lungs, and practically shouted in his mind, "KYLAR! KYLAR! THERE IS SO MUCH YOUR TATLETH WANTS TO TELL YOU!"

Suddenly swamped by the wiggling green body, Kylar's rear hit the sands, Tatleth trying to crawl into his lap. She stared at him, nose to nose, with a grin as wide on her maw as his usually was. Laughing, he rubbed her head-knobs, wincing only a little as her voice filled his head to bursting.

"MINE, can you hear me? Yes?? Good! I'm hungry, mine. Please feed me, then I have sooo much to share with you, mine. SO MUCH!"

Hopping off her new rider, she fairly danced in front of him, wings half-unfurled, tail lashing in excitement. Kylar climbed to his feet in awe, too amazed by his fortune to speak in his head.

"Yes, dear Tatleth. I hear you very well," he said with a laugh, wrapping his arms around her neck. "Food for you! Come!" With that, she dashed to the table, her rider close behind. Upon reaching the table, she bumped shoulders with her clutch-mate Skananth, chirping animatedly in her excitement.

"Skananth, mine is here! Do you see him? He is handsome and strong and will protect Tatleth!" Glancing over her shoulder, she whirred more noises at him, as if to hurry Kylar.

Laughing, he reached the table, resting a hand on her shoulder as he caught his breath. "C'mere, mine. Time to fill that gut of yours, and maybe calm you down."

And just where was that silly bronze going? Into the stands, would there be a stands impression? Or was he just being fickle and causing havoc? At least he and the brown weren't fighting. She was glad the brown had enough sense to turn and go, but where was he going? Wasn't he going to find his, or was he taking his time? She rocked back and forth a little, the heat becoming a too much for her poor feet; but a dragon was worth it. A dragon was worth anything. Her head span as she tried to watch the bronze, the brown, and the eggs. So much excitement!

PostPosted: Sun Feb 14, 2010 3:25 pm

The brown picked his way among the eggs. He paused at a few, eyeing them and circling those that did not seem to pass his test.

It was when he reached the Grey Speckled Egg that he screeched. Nothing happened in response. Another screech echoed out, this time louder, and the brown's eyes turned to red.

In a flurry of motion, he leapt up onto the Grey Speckled Egg and began to pull the broken shell surrounding the green's leg with force. His claws worked into the cracks and he chipped and pulled until he had removed every last fragment and revealed a rather lifeless looking green.

Or, it only looked lifeless, but as it poked one eye open and gave a huff, if was clear that it was just not interested in moving. So, the brown simply grabbed it by the tail and drug it away from the shell, his eyes returning to a mellow blue.

There was a short squabble between them that was more noise than it was fight, and as the green got to her feet, the brown followed her, giving encouraging nips to her heels.

She made her way over to the boys and stopped. The brown waited nearby.

Slowly, she picked her way between them, her head cast to the ground and her tail swaying from side to side before she yawned and settled at the only female candidate that was in the male group.

YuluMine, Your Erath doesn't want to walk all the way over to the food. Bring some to her.

Kaatan's attention moved briefly form the bronze as he watched the lazy green Impress...a girl? Well, that's great! To me, I s'pose.. hah! Nice to see it get a bit mixed up, that's for sure! When he tok a closer look at the Candidate that the green had Impressed, he smirked slightly. She looks rather familiar...

Cass's dark eyes went wide as the brown went to the grey speckled egg and all but started attacking it, dragging forth a seemingly lifeless body from the remains. Her small hands went to her face and she gasped and horror, thinking, as many did, that the green was surely dead. Then, after a moment of stillness, the green moved, and even managed to get to its feet, forcing a relieved sigh from her as she released the breath she hadn't realized she had been holding. She nearly choked on it though when the lazy green settled in front of yulu of all people. She huffed, annoyed that the girl had impressed and she had not. Well, at least she was stuck with a lazy little creature...
Cass firmly turned her gaze back to the eggs, bobbing on the balls of her feet once more, eager to see the others come forth.
please be there, mine, please be there... she hoped desperately to herself. Oh to find that special dragon to complete her...her heart ached for the chance, and she hoped her wish would be granted.

Tofir had forgotten to watch the grey speckled egg, being completely occupied by keeping track of the bronze, and hoping that no violence would occur. When the brown screeched, however, his head whipped around and he saw an unusual sight indeed: a dragon being dragged by its clutchmate. That was...definitely unusual. He looked in askance to one of his fellow healers, but they weren't looking at him.

"Yulu!" he whispered. "Yes!"

It was unexpected. Neither of them had guessed that egg would go to her, but he didn't care. He was elated for her. She would be a dragonrider! And hopefully handle it better than Jasrai had. Though he'd not heard from Jasrai lately. Maybe she was doing better, living in her own weyr? Not the place or time for that.

"Go, Yulu," he whispered, earning himself a disapproving glare. He casually indicated with a hand gesture that the healer who was glaring could go screw himself and went on being happy. At least until his attention was drawn back to the bronze in the stands. Mustn't forget him.

Jada almost squeaked as the brown suddenly leapt on one of the other eggs. Ripping and pulling, until he dragged a tired-looking green from the shards of her shell. She watched the dragon rise, and again, move for the males.

What happened next made her smile, but it was a slightly confused smile. The dragonet settled to the ground at Yulu's feet... and didn't move to get back up.

Three eggs left to hatch; a bronze that was in the Stands, and a brown that was far too dominant for her tastes, even if she leaned in a manner that would fit the brown's tastes.

Skananth nodded agreeably to Tatleth when he over heard Erath's comment to her's and snorted. "You have legs." He called out across the sands. "Walk over here yourself."

Zhierd had held his breath as the green had made it's way over toward them, then noticed Yulu standing amidst them. How had he not noticed her? He did suppose that with all of the excitement it was easy to miss a few things. A wide grin spread on his face as the dragonet chose the girl. He was glad that she had been chosen. Though he knew she'd have a hard time. It was always hard for the girls here but perhaps the more female riders there were, the sooner everyone would get over their stupid prejudice. Not everyone was meant to sit around and have babies.

Was... was that? Layla struggled to see over the crowd of white robed candidates, running the last confusing few moments through her mind. The brown had just jumped on the grey speckled egg... but it had looked like he was trying to help, really, it hadn't seemed aggressive. Maybe he had been worried, it had been still for some time and then she'd been worried because it hadn't moved... but then the spotted green had got to her feet and plodded over to the boys but...

Shards, she couldn't see properly but she thought... she thought...

Yes!

The green had chosen Yulu!

The only way this could have been better was if the green had come to her, but she was Yulu's so she wouldn't have been right for her. Layla beamed, and wished she could just rush over and hug her friend... and then she started to worry. There were only three eggs left that might contain her own lifemate. Three more chances, and so many candidates around her...

Her feet hurt! The burning of the sands was getting really bad now, and her heart surely couldn't beat this fast much longer and not burst. Please let Hers come. Please.

Indeed, someone was about to be hurt.

One girl in the front row wasn't quick enough to scrabble away from the stomping bronze, and he grabbed her by the arm and tossed her into the Hatching Sands. He snorted softly, before continuing through the crowd. It seemed after the first girl the crowd got faster.

The bronze suddenly stopped, turning his whirling eyes on one of the boys in the crowd. Though his expression still stayed firm, blue filtered into his eyes and he seemed to calm.

Sethal! Why were you not down with the rest of the boys? Nevermind, your Pipith has come to get you! Now let's go! We don't have time for this! I want to eat!

Lelia watched with horror the way the brown dragged that poor, lifeless green agcross the sands except. Except...she was alive! The little green was alive! Of course, she just had to go for a boy. Lelia watched her walk, watched her choose her person and...what? What was Yulu doing over ther. Wait, she just impressed! Yulu impressed the green! Yes! Lelia let out a silent whoop. Good for Yulu, good for the green, good for the Weyr. Lelia longed to call out her congratulations, but that was a strict 'no-no'. So she turned back to the eggs, but she kept glancing over, elated that a dragon had impressed a female rider. Well, aside from the gold, whom was bound to impress a girl. Otherwise...that'd be weird.

She watched the bronze, heard the yelling of the crowd, and hoped he found his soon or at least returned to the sands. He was causing quite a ruckus; why couldn't he nicer like his brown sibling? Oh no! That poor girl he grabbed by the arm, how horrific! Would she lose the limb? She cringed inside, but kept her cool. Her terror would chase away any dragons who might fancy her, yet her heart went out to the injured girl. But...it looked like the bronze impressed? To a boy in the stands. Oh good, oh good. No more people would be hurt...she hoped.

PostPosted: Sun Feb 14, 2010 3:44 pm

Yulu's heart had stopped as she watched the Brown attack the other egg, the one with the dragonet who refused to be budged. She was going to say something out loud, to try and startle it away, when the large green inside came out looking rather unharmed....and slowly came her way. Surely the ONE EGG she had mentioned over and over that she didn't want...wanted her? That had to be some cruel joke played by some form of anything and everything, right? Right?

Wrong.

YuluMine, Your Erath doesn't want to walk all the way over to the food. Bring some to her.

The moment those words touched Yulu's mind she felt her heart stop again before it suddenly sped up, as if it were racing at speeds she couldn't understand, and she actually had to put her hand on her chest to make sure she wasn't having an attack of any kind. This feeling was more intense then anything she'd ever known or probably would ever know again , her eyes daring themselves to smart with tears before she could find words to respond.

"No, get it yourself. I'm not your Mother, she's standing over there next to your siblings. If you want to get something to eat you're going to have to get up and follow me, or else I'll leave you here on your own."

Yulu started away from where she had stood amongst the boys, ignoring any jeers that obviously would be coming her way now that a woman had Impressed a Fighting dragon. She didn't look back to see if her Erath was following, but she didn't want to try to hard. She was still in a state where she couldn't think straight, and only single minded focus was moving her legs.

Cass hadn't been paying attention to the bronze that had entered the stands, after all, he certainly wasn't going to impress to her! When she heard a loud thump from behind her though, she looked around in confusion which rapidly turned to horror as she saw the bleeding girl laying in the sands, no doubt thrown there by the irate bronze. Stupid little thing!
Without thinking she turned from the sands and ran to the girl, praying that she wasn't dead. From the looks of it it was only her arm that was damaged. She didn't know much about healing, but working in a kitchen where cuts were common, she knew enough that you had to staunch the bleeding. Grabbing up a handfull of her robes, she tore off a large strip and pressed it to the girl's arm "Someone get a healer!" she cried.
she had no idea who this girl was, but she couldn't just leave her laying here! Oooh that stupid bronze! That hadn't been necessary at all!
