No avail was met when strings tried to reach around Shiki... The lower the sand got, the lower she crawled.
... And the creepier it looked. Never had a body moved like that in such an unnatural way before... But damn, did she move fast even without the sun's light.
She had then crawled out from under the sand, wiped the sweat off her brow, and clapped her hands, signaling that the sparring match was over, and Ichi could let go of the sand anytime he wanted.

Kazuki Habaragi

Kazuki sighed. They hadn't beaten her this time. He turned to where Ichi was and called, "You know where me and Kyou are right? Let go of the sand now but let it fall around us and not on us please."Kazuki was disappointed in himself. 'What did I do wrong?' ran through his head. He sat down as he thought about this. He came to a conclusion that he didn't know everything about his teacher yet and couldn't accurately pinpoint her weakness yet. He sighed again in disappointment.

As he heard what Shiki and Kazuki said Ichi let the sand come crashing down onto the ground around them; the sand parting away from them just before it would land on them; He then looked over at Shiki, sweat dripping down his bow as he shakily stood up; however as soon as he stood up his body seemed to give out from under him; he then fell and caught himself landing on all fours.

Kyou Koubadeyou

Kyou looked at her sensei and glanced around as the sand fell. They didn't win... that was for sure... She glanced at Ichi as he fell and she ran over to help him up. "A-Are you alright?" she asked him. She didn't see him get hurt! Was he just exausted? That had to have taken alot of chakra...

The sand around Ichi moved up and formed a wall between Ichi and Kyou; it was clear that this was not intentional, mainly because he didn't have enough chakra to move any sand with his will. Ichi looked over at Kyou and smiled slightly, slowly standing up, his body remaining shaky as he got up. "I....I;m Fine" He said breathing heavily. "S-so...... how..... long...... till.... .the..... .sand" He said taking heavy breaths between each word. It was clear that he was extremely tired, but it was also clear that he was eager to get to the Cloud village; ether for the mission; or to simply see another village. More likely then not it was to just see the village.

Shiki stared long and hard at Ichi, then dusted and brushed off all the sand that was on her clothes and feet.
"We should be leaving right about now. Good job, all of you. Especially you, Ichi. You managed to hold it up without fainting this time," said Shiki bluntly as she walked, "Kyou still needs improvement, and Kazuki needs to practice more on his reach. Come on. We're going."
And about time too. She couldn't WAIT to see what Nemui-kun as up to...
The whole thought of it made her hungry... For his head...

Kyou blinked and jumped back as the sand shot up inbetween them. She could tell Ichi didn't do it on pourpose, but she still wanted to know why he did it... Kyou took off her claws and put them in her back pack with every thing else then slipped the pack back on. Then Kyou looked at Shiki a she said she still needs improvement and she looked down at her feet and put her hands in her pockets. It was true... she didn't do anything during the fight. She just got in the way. Kyou looked back at her Sensei and followed her silently as she started to walk.

Kazeryu Akira

"Even the most gentle wind
Can become a great hurricane"

User ImageAkira made his way through the training ground in the forest, trying to stay out of the way of all of the people training. His brother usually trained in a spot away from all the others where he could be alone. Akira moved towards his usual training spot, hoping that he would see him there. Akira was in luck, as he saw his brother practicing his sword skills, cutting through the air with the long nodachi that he carried with him on missions.

"Brother! I was hoping to find you here. I'm sorry to disturb your training, but I need to talk to you."

Akira was able to get a glimpse of his brother Tetsuo's face before he turned around. It looked like pure anger. He probably wasn't even truly training, more like blowing off steam. His last argument with their parents must have been a serious one. But when he heard Akira's voice, his countenance seemed to change, softening quite a bit as he looked towards his younger brother.

"Well, I wasn't expecting you to come all the way out here to see me! Shouldn't you be training though? Genin work is serious, you know, you should be prepared..."

No matter how bad things got, Tetsuo never showed his anger around Akira or Kaori. Akira knew he was always trying to be strong for the two of them, but he often hurt himself by bottling his feelings up for them. It was always nice to see his big brother smiling, but Akira usually knew how Tetsuo was really feeling.

"I know I should, but this is important. I know that once I start getting missions, I may be sent away for weeks or months, but...I'm worried about sister. Kaori, she...well, she's still a little kid. When you're fighting with mother and father...it effects her, and I'm usually there to console her. I'm just worried that if something happens while I'm gone, she'll have nobody to turn to..."

Akira expected Tetsuo to get a little angry at bringing the constant fued between Tetsuo and their parents up. But Akira didn't see a hint of anger cross his brother's face. There was something else: pride in his little brother.

"Heh, so you want me to make peace with mother and father to protect Kaori while you're gone? Well those parents of ours definitely did something right since you turned out to be such a good brother to our little sister!"

Tetsuo moved over to a place where he could sit with his back to the canyon wall, motioning for Akira to sit with him. When this happened, Tetsuo was most likely going to have a serious discussion with him. Somehow, Akira knew that just asking his brother to make up with his parents youldn't be enough.

"I'm not going to lie to you, Akira; I don't think it's possible for me ever to see eye to eye with mother and father. You remember what I told you back when I was a genin, right? Anything worth having is worth defending. Well, that's what I'm doing now. I'm defending something that's important to me. I'm sorry you and Kaori have been dragged into this. But you don't have to worry. Even though we won't ever agree, I can tell you that there won't be any more fighting between us. I've come up with something that will stop all of that."

Akira couldn't believe it. He should have known his big brother would have everything figured out. Akira felt a rush of relief when he heard his brother saying that everything would be okay. He started to hope that maybe things could go back to the way things were when he was younger, when they could all co-exist with no problems.

"That's great, Tetsuo! So, what do you have planned?"

"Ehh...you'll see pretty soon. For now, we need to talk about something else, namely your training. I see you wearing that headband like a genin, but I don't see you training like one! What have you been doing all day?"

Akira failed to fight his surprised look as his brother called him out. Akira had been worried about this all morning. He couldn't focus on training, so he had been sitting on the roof of the house, watching the sky as he usually did when he needed to think.

"Err...I was...umm...doing some...m-mental training..."

"Yeah, you really expect that to fly? Alright, Akira, let me teach you something that a friend of mine taught me. It'll definitely be helpful to have, but it will take a lot of chakra control to pull off. And you're going to have to learn it by the end of the day. It'll be hard, but I'm sure you can do it"

Akira didn't understand why he had to learn this technique by the end of the day. He hadn't heard of a technique that had a time limit on it. Maybe it was just that tetsuo would have a mission the next morning, but then couldn't they just continue the lessons once he got back?

Kazeryu Akira

"Even the most gentle wind
Can become a great hurricane"

User ImageTetsuo stood up, motioning for Akira to do the same. It had been a while since Akira had gotten a chance to learn a technique from his brother, so he was looking forward to this one.

“This technique that I'm about to show you isn’t a wind element one, Akira. I know father has only taught you wind release techniques so that in a tough spot, you can activate our kekei genkai, the kami kaze, and be granted a boost in power. But power isn’t the only thing that is important in a mission; sometimes it is what you can do outside of battle that can make or break a mission for you. So, that is why I want you to learn this summoning technique. Once you learn how to summon, depending on the creature you make a pact with, you can become a great asset to your team.”

Akira had seen the summoning technique in action a few times. Some of the higher ranked ninja in his clan could summon massive birds that could aid them in combat. However, summoning something so large seemed like it would take a lot more than a simple genin could do, let alone one that had never even been on a mission.

“Brother, I know you think I can handle this, but I’ve seen some people use the summoning technique. It seems way to powerful for someone like me to learn…”

“You must be thinking of some of the large summons members of our clan hold pacts with. What you don’t realize is that people first start off small before moving to something larger. Just don’t worry too much about the contract yet, first you need to learn how to properly form the technique.”

Tetsuo first demonstrated the seals that Akira would need to make in order to perform the technique. Akira was always good at memorizing seals; it only took him a few tries before they were committed to memory. It was always the easiest part of learning a new technique for Akira; the hard part was always the one that came next; learning to properly mold his chakra to use the technique.

“Alright, Akira, like I told you, this isn’t a wind release technique. It is going to feel different than when you need to draw out the wind element for a technique. You’ll need to keep the flow of your chakra more balanced than you normally have to.”

As Akira tried to mold his chakra, he found it hard to break out of the habit of relying on the wind element. The members of the clan had an affinity for the element, so when others saw their elemental abilities and thought they needed to work harder to accomplish that, for him it was people who could learn a variety of techniques, even if they weren’t necessarily as powerful as his, who were truly amazing. He began to strain to keep his chakra under control, to keep it in balance. It took him almost a full hour just to get it right, and then longer to learn how to sustain the chakra balance long enough to make the hand seals necessary for the technique. But eventually, Akira was able to pull it off.

“Good job so far, Akira. You’re learning this just as quickly as I thought you would. But now comes the hard part; putting everything together.”

Tetsuo walked to the area in front of where Akira was standing and squatted down, drawing a circle on the ground in front of Akira. Akira had seen this kind of circle before when he was studying about summoning techniques in the academy. They were a kind of focus used to bring forth the summoned being. Usually, they appeared as the ninja was using the summoning technique. Akira didn’t really have an idea why his brother had drawn it on the ground, however.

“Okay, Akira, this is where things are going to get very tricky. You’re going to need to focus your chakra into the circle in order to complete the summon. First, you must mold your chakra correctly, making sure to keep it in perfect balance. Then, you must make the correct seals. Then, you need to envision the summoning circle. The drawing there is going to help you keep your focus on the circle. And lastly, you need to force the molded chakra into the circle to call forth the summoned creature. In truth, there is still one part left, but I’ll tell you about that later, for now just concentrate on getting all of these steps down first.”

Akira breathed a deep sigh. All of this seemed like a lot for a non-elemental technique. It didn’t take as much chakra control as some of his other techniques, but it did seem to require more mental focus, at least for him. However, he now knew how all the different parts of the technique should feel; all that was left was to put them together. Akira molded his chakra, trying to keep it in balance like Tetsuo had taught him. Then, once that was correct, he kept that balance while forming the hand seals. Envisioning the circle and forcing his chakra into it was where he was beginning to have problems. He had to go through a couple of attempts, starting over from the beginning each time. By the end, he felt as if he was going to run out of chakra, but he was finally able to perform it. And once he had it down once, he practiced doing it until he felt he had it committed to memory.

“Not bad at all, Akira. Now, there’s just one last thing you need for the technique to be complete.”

Tetsuo, ready to give a demonstration, molded his own chakra and reached for the nodachi at his side. Partially unsheathing the long blade, he quickly rubbed his thumb over the sharp edge, drawing a bit of blood. He made the seals and put his hand to the ground, and in a puff of smoke, a black hawk appeared. It looked fearsome despite its small size.

“The blood is the last step. If you do everything correctly, you should have no problems with the summon.”

“Alright…I can do this, I know I can.”

Akira was still tired and could feel his chakra reserves dwindling, but he felt that he had enough to do this one last time. Plus, they were losing daylight, so there was no time to rest. Reaching behind his back, Akira partially unsheathed his tanto, drawing a slight amount of blood like his brother did. He remembered everything that he had been taught and preformed it perfectly, and once he pun his hand flat on the ground, forcing his chakra out, a large puff of smoke was created. As the smoke cleared, he could see a bird; a small falcon that was sitting on top of a large scroll, looking as if it had just woken up.

"Ha! I did it, Tetsuo! I actually did it!"

Akira's jubilation was cut short by a loud yawn coming from the bird he had just summoned. It looked at him, his tired eyes looking quite peeved to be awake.

"Hey, are you the jerk that summoned me here and woke me up!?"

Akira's look of joy was replaced by one of confusion and shock. He hadn't expected the bird to speak, let alone yell at him for summoning him. He half wanted to blame it on Tetsuo.

"Um...y-yeah, it was me...uhh...sorry about that..."

The bird sighed and shook his head, obviously disappointed in Akira's response.

"Don't apologize, kid, it's a sign of weakness. So, who are you anyway"

"My name's...Akira. Kazeryu Akira...umm..."

The bird sighed again and began unrolling the scroll with his feet.

"Well, Akira, my name's Hyabusa. And I expect you're looking to make a summon contract. Just my luck, another busy body genin who won't leave me to rest. Just sign here in your blood, and then we can all get out of here."

Akira was starting to wonder how this bird could actually be useful as a summon. Sure he could...talk...something it would probably take Akira a while to get over, but other than getting a possible nagging, what good could he be? Akira figured that his brother knew what he was doing, so he signed the contract, which disappeared into a puff of smoke once he did.

"There it is. You'd better not bother me for something unimportant, kid, or I'll peck your eye out. No go away, ya' bother me!"

The falcon disappeared just as it had appeared. Akira couldn't fight the feeling that he had just wasted a lot of time learning how to summon the bird. But he supposed he at least knew the summoning technique now.

Tetsuo laughed as he saw Akira's confusion as to his summon. Tetsuo himself had first made a contract with Hyabusa, and knew just how much of a quirky personality the bird could have. But he also knew just how useful he could be.

"Your reaction is pretty much the same as when I first summoned Hyabusa. Don't worry, though, once you get used to him, he'll become a big help to you."

Akira still doubted it, but he decided to take his brother at his word anyway. For now, he wanted to go back to something his brother had said before the training started.

"Brother...you said that you have a way to end the troubles that we've been having at home... What do you plan to do?"

Tetsuo was silent for a while, contemplating exactly what he would say to Akira

"I've been thinking this over for a while, Akira. I'm going to be leaving Suna; there's nothing left to fight about if I'm not here. This way we'll all be spared the grief."

Akira couldn't believe what his brother was saying. He knew that things were tense between him and their parents, but would he really leave everything he knew, including him and Kaori? Tetsuo, however, seemed to know what he was thinking and spoke to calm his brother down.

"I'm counting on you to look after things here, Akira. I know you'll be able to do a fine job looking after Kaori, mother, and father while I'm gone. You're ready to step out of my shadow and forge your own path. Just remember this, Akira. You always have to do whatever is necessary to protect that which is important to you, but make sure that which you are defending is truly important. Don't risk your life just because it is expected to, you're nobody's pawn. Do you understand?"

Akira could feel the sadness welling up in him. He didn't want his brother to go, but he understood Tetsuo was trusting him to take his place as the older brother now. He knew he had to be strong for his sister's sake.

"I understand, brother. I'll...I'll do my best..."

Tetsuo smilled, knowing he could count on Akira. He knew it would be hard on him and hoped he didn't crack under the pressure, but he felt that Akira was ready for this. He put a hand reassuringly on Akira's shoulder.

"I know you will. And don't worry, this isn't goodbye. I'm sure we'll meet again. So, see you later, Akira."

Tetsuo stepped away, and the winds seemed to pick up, blowing loose sand with it. The sands obscured Akira's vision for only a fraction of a second, but once it was gone, he saw that Tetsuo was no longer standing there. Akira sighed, hoping his brother's words were true and they did get to see eachother again.

"...See you later, Tetsuo..."

"Within every lie, there is truth
Within every illusion, there is reality"

Akeru had never really been to the training canyons much, she much rather preferred to do her training where there were more unsuspecting people. It wasn't like she ever had anyone to train with, let alone anyone willing to let her train her genjutsu on them. So she had only been here a few times, mostly to practice some taijutsu moves and to practice throwing kunai. As she and Regimaru arrived there, she saw that there weren't many people there, which would make looking for the one that was to join their team much easier. It wasn't long before Akeru spotted a boy at the secluded end of the area.

"Regimaru-sensei, I think that's the guy over there. Well, he sure doesn't look like anything special... Do you know anything about the guy, or are we all going to have to get aquainted on the journey to cloud?"

Akeru noticed that this boy also used swords, as there were two on his back. She rolled her eyes; she already knew who was going to be getting more attention now. This 'teammate' would have to be put in his place quickly. She didn't want him becoming the favorite...

Regimaru nodded and wrote down something on his notebook, showing her as he pointed:

'I know who he is; I researched about him when the Kazekage gave
me his file. It's you who has to get to know him better.'

Regimaru approached the boy, walking next to him as the wind blew past them and tapped on his shoulder with the notebook, staring down at him as he wrote down a message for him:

'You Akira Kazeryu?'
