 In truth that she learned,
or the times that he cried Evangeline got herself up and on her crutches. She left her little house and decided to go into the lab today. She had her binders of notes on her back. As Evangeline went through the streets, she noticed a few of the Keepers staring at her. She held her head up high as she swung herself again and again forward.
Eve was through the doors. Clean up was nearly done it looked like. She found the lab head and he met her halfway.People always seemed to come and meet her before she got all the way somewhere.
"How can I help you Eva?" he asked politely.
"Whenever you find Felincia, give her these," she told him as she took out the binders from the bag. "Tell her to read them right away. She might find those interesting." Evangeline smiled sweetly at him and then turned and went to leave the building.

 Shaishuu merely nodded as Felincia spoke. Even walking down the Keeper halls seemed strange... she was so lost, she didn't fully react to anything that was said to her. She did have one question. "Could we find... anyone that I know? Who's still alive?"

[[I know, I know, I'm getting to it...]]  Felincia smiled. "Sure, we can do that! All you need to do is fill out some forms, and they'll track down the records. Our record heads are good at that."
At that moment, Jesute knocked on the door and - out of habit - admitted himself with his DNA card. "I was going to actually open the door this time," Felincia said, raising an eyebrow.
Jesute handed her some binders. "Eva wanted you to look at these," he said.
Felincia took them, reading their titles with interest. "Cool, okay. Here, Shaishuu, Jesute will help you find the right forms. My folks are planning dinner for seven, see you then?"
Shaishuu nodded as Jesute steered her out the Lab F door.
Felincia sat back down and began reading Eve's binders with interest. With each page, her eyes grew wider. When she reached the end, she slammed the last binder shut, opened the door, marched past Jesute's desk without so much as an explanation, and walked straight to Eve's living quarters. She knocked on the door, and when Eve answered she showed her the binders. "We have to talk."

or the times that he cried Evangeline opened the door and looked at Felincia. "Found time to read them already? With your busy schedule I was not expecting you until the day after tomorrow," Evangeline joked with Felincia. Felincia had made quite a name for herself in keeper science while Evangeline was in recovery. She was gifted in science the way Evangeline had been in fighting.
"Come in," Eva offered. She sat herself down at the kitchen table which was right by the door. "What do you want to talk about?" she asked with a smile.

Felincia set the binders on the table and pointed to some diagrams Eve had drawn in the third binder. In layman's terms, it was a diagram of DNA fusing similar to the kind Felincia had achieved with her cat and wildcat DNA. But it wasn't for cats, it was for birds. "It seems that you want to fuse bird DNA with human DNA, similar to what I did with wildcats," she said with excitement. She couldn't contain herself. "But my DNA fusing resulted in a kind of split in the brain - where the brains would have to take turns controlling the body. So some of the time, I behaved like a cat, and some of the time, I thought like a human. I had to learn to balance it out. Your fusing, however, seems to result in a merging of the brains, so that you would be a bird-human - in both bodies - forever. That would mean instincts like the bird you chose while you were human AND in bird form, and possibly the brain force of a human mind in both forms as well. And..." she gulped, realizing she was blathering from excitement.
"I want to help you with this project," she said, trying to regain control. "I've succeeded in fusing cat, werewolf, and human DNA together, so that when you transform bodies you maintain werewolf-like characteristics." To illustrate, she transformed into a cat. The clothes she was wearing, instead of falling to the floor, simply disappeared. And without retransforming she was able to speak human. "I injected myself after seeing what a success the werewolf DNA was on Shaishuu. Anyway, I want to see how many animals we can do this with. I want to help you."

Shaishuu gazed with bewilderment as the stack of forms got higher. Finally, Jesute pulled out the last one - "For people outside of Keeper workbases" - and she took the pile to a small chair some feet away from his desk. There weren't that many people she wanted to find, so forms for "Janitorial staff" and "Baiting experts" were left blank. She only wanted to find her trainers, friends of her parents, and a couple of people she had taken vampire-hunting classes with.

or the times that he cried Evangeline took in a shaky breath. It was one thing to read the theory on paper, but to watch someone transform into a cat in front of you was completely different. "Well, I'm glad you are interested. However, If you look here," she opened to a different page further back in the binder, "the person will attain all the physical characteristics of the animal at the time that the DNA was harvested. For example, if someone had prosthetic bones in their legs, if they became a bird, they would have the real bones of the bird that the DNA was harvested," she said as some red came to her cheeks.
Felincia would know that Eva wanted to use this procedure on herself. Anyone could guess that she would want to. After her promising future had been snatched away, she had been looking for anything to give her something bright. Eva had been consumed with coming up with all of these ideas over the past week.
"So, your interested in testing this out," she said. "Let's hope it works out like I hoped then," she really hoped it would work correctly.

Felincia could barely hide her excitement. "This could do so much for us," she said breathlessly, "that it's scary. I don't suppose you heard all of Shaishuu's story? She was killed by a blow from a vampire blade, but when I transformed her body into a panther, the wound healed. By transforming, the body renews all its cells. So, a dying Keeper need only have enough energy to transform - and the more often you transform, the less energy it takes - and they would be able to heal themselves. Gog, it's amazing."
She gathered the binders. "Could you come with me to the lab to fill out some acceptance slips? We need some bird DNA, and another batch of mice. I think the lab heads are beginning to get annoyed with me; this is the fifth batch of mice I've asked for in the past few months. What bird do you want to start with first?"

or the times that he cried Evangeline listened excitedly. "That's amazing," she said, just as intrigued as she was hopeful. "If the cells regenerate and bring a dead girl back, then I could walk again? It might cure me?" she asked eager to begin.
"Sure, but it might be quicker if you push me though. I can carry the binders on my lap, but going on my crutches will take a lot longer," she told Falincia. She was willing to sacrifice her dignity.
Evangeline thought for a moment. "What about a raven? They are pretty common and nobody would notice another one hanging around. What do you think?" she asked Felincia.

"Actually," Felincia said as Eve showed her where the wheelchair was, "Shaishuu was brought back from the dead when we used electricity to bring her organs back to life. We didn't expect to revive her soul as well. What transforming did was heal the terrible wound she died from. But absolutely! It is definitely going to heal your legs. Or, at least, it should. Let's hope so. And a raven," she continued, wheeling Eve out the door, "would be perfect! Of course, once we're certain bird DNA works, we could use any bird we wanted. But we have to test it on mice first, safety regulations. Since we found that human and mice DNA are similar in makeup, it's regulations to test on mice so we know the reactions the tests will have." Suddenly she laughed. "If this works, we'll have mice-sized ravens hopping around in cages! Lab heads are going to kill me. First tiny cats, now tiny ravens. Oh, you might end up being a fairly large raven, because transforming doesn't affect your amount of body mass. But it should work out."
Jesute stared in bemusement at a very talkative Felincia as she wheeled Eve - 'Eve in a wheelchair?!' - into Lab F.
"Oh, Jesute, could yo dig out the -"
"Acceptance slips? There's some in your cabinet," Jesute called back. "I left some there because you use them so often."
"You're tops, Jesute. Right, Eve, first thing we need to do is fill these out. One for a batch of mice, and another for raven DNA. Luckily for me we've been moved up to top priority, so we should get these back within fifteen minutes."

or the times that he cried Evangeline listened closely to what Felincia was babbling about. "Jesute, don't look at me like that. I spent several years in a wheelchair. You should not look that surprised about it," she gave him a playful stare. Jesute had visited her several times while she was in the hospital. She had been mean to him at first, but had written him letters several times just for someone to talk to.
"So, to the mice then!" Evangeline said cheerfully. She could be walking around again soon. The thought made her happy and bubbly inside. Once they were inside she asked Felincia, "How long until we can test this on me?"

[[I know, isn't it so cool? xd ]] Felincia thought about this. "Hm, fifteen to thirty minutes to get the mice and raven DNA, six hours to correctly mix the concoction, twenty-four hours to let it sit after injecting it into a mouse, a couple of hours for observation - to make sure the body won't rebel against it - and then... well, let's say a day and a half, two days at the most."
They filled out the acceptance slips with shaky handwriting and sent them to lab heads as quickly as possible. Felincia's entire insides burned with energy when Jesute showed up with the cage of mice and the baggie of raven feathers. "Here goes nothing!"

Jesute was on an errand when Shaishuu finally finished her forms, so she took them directly to the first place she thought of - records. As she approached unnoticed, she could hear the secretaries whispering. "Did you hear? About Felincia?" "Hear which? About her turning into a cat, bringing a girl back from the dead, or sneaking into the werewolf hideout?" "All of it! Isn't it a hoot?" "Word is she filed the location of the werewolf mansion." "I filed it meself! Looks like Keepers are organizing their best werewolf hunters - and Felincia's dad is among them - to raid the mansion." "Raid? More like destroy!" "Aye, no werewolves will get past them." "Do we have enough hunters to take on the entire pack?" "What? With Felincia's designed weapons and our superiority? Easily!" "Mayhap by the time we've got these things organized, half o' the hunters will 'ave been injected with some kind of animal." "Did Felincia give them approval to use her concoction on other hunters?" "Not yet, but it's just a matter of time." Finally on of them noticed Shaishuu. "Oh, hello dear. Something to file? Oh, many things... I see." She exchanged glances with the other secretaries. Shaishuu realized she was known as the undead girl from now on. "We'll put these in right away," the woman continued. "Good luck, dear."

In truth that she learned,
or the times that he cried "A day and a half it will be then," Evangeline replied. She wanted to be able to walk again so badly. Jesute showed up with the mice and feathers and Evangeline began work on the feathers while Felincia prepped the mice.
Six hours later, the mixture was ready to be injected into the mice. Evangeline took a deep breath and injected it into the first mouse. It twitched violently in her hands, trying to escape. She dropped it back into the cage and picked up the next one. It's sharp little teeth pricked her glove. She dropped it back in with a grunt. "He didn't puncture the skin," she told Felincia with relief. "What would happen if one of them did bite or scratch me?" Evangeline asked curiously.
