Another day, another pocketed coin to spend toward another night of pleasure.
Usually one of his favorites would greet him at the door, take his cloak (and of course his money) before leading to their preferred chamber. This time it was the Matron greeting him at the threshold, a decorative shawl thrown and held close over her shoulders.
"There is someone with a wish to see you," she said in quiet voice, apparently not wishing to disturb the other girls with her words. "Keep your blade at hand tonight," she said even lower. Her eyes, brown as the wood floor, were constantly scanning the room as if waiting for something to go amiss. "She said she carried a warning of importance. If you wish to turn and depart now, I will note you made no stop this night."

The captain of the guard hesitated. This... was not a good sign. Sure, he'd made his share of enemies - who wouldn't in this line of business? But it was all mostly small scale stuff. Nept absently checked that his sword was loose and ready, as was his belt knife. No. He couldn't turn around and walk off. He'd been a patron of this house and the Matron had always been discreet about his affairs. He couldn't walk off and leave this trouble with them.
"Take me to her," he said firmly, loudly, to see if it would carry to whoever waited him. Nept was not one to show fear.
Maybe he would get lucky and it was just a game one of the girls was playing tonight in hopes of an extra tip or so. Oh, how he wished. He smiled ruefully and followed the Matron.

"I chose one of the rooms closest to the back entrance, just in case." The matron picked up her skirts in one hand and held out the other for an escort, which was unusual as normally she would simply chose to lead the way with her girls.
"About my height. At least one scabbard. Seemed traveled. Worn clothes, some ill fit. Said very little and avoided the other girls. Requested a room with a curtained window," she mentioned, as soon as he came close enough which explained the escort. It allowed her to speak to him without raising her voice.
Upon reaching the room at the hallway's end, the matron stepped forward and promptly knocked thrice before pulling from Nept's arm and opening the door, standing back to allow him to step forward into a rather well lit room. Probably the Matron's doing.
Inside the room in the glow of the lights was a grey cloaked and hooded figure half turned toward the side of the window, ungloved fingers lightly holding the curtain edge. Her face was turned toward him and the doorway, away from what she was spying on through the sliver she had given herself to peek through.

"I'll not give you my name," Nept said warily, "Lest you use it against me. I imagine you already know who I am, else you wouldn't be here... but..."
He smiled thinly.
"Precaution. I was told you had a message for me. Make it quick, m'lady, and may the gods help you if it is a threat. I do my job as best I can."

The woman at the window moved none until there was the click of the door shutting behind him.
"If there were gods around, you wouldn't be here this night," the woman said, letting go of the curtain. She looked at him from beneath the hood with something less than defiance. With a smallish bed sitting between the two of them, he had the upper hand with more room to maneuver than what she had.
"You need to leave the city. Tonight. Now."

Now this was unexpected. Nept dipped his head and looked at her, his lips pulled thin in a grimace.
"I'll not desert my duties with nothing but the word of a stranger. You're going to have to do better than that to convince me of anything. Why should I leave town? I have a duty here, miss, and unless you have ample reason as to why I should flee like a thief I will not simply up and leave."
He paused, nothing the look on her face and their surroundings and forced himself to relax a bit.
"Please, take off the hood. I wish to see your face - I mean you no harm. I swear it."

"I'd prefer it up. Sworn oaths have been made before and I've felt the bite of their betrayal."
Her words were cold like the air outside the brothel, as if he'd struck a nerve.
"Check under the pillow of the bed, the side closest to you, and tell me what that means to you. If you wish to lift the pillow with your sword or some other such awkward fashion out of safety, I hold no ill."

Nept gave her a curious look. She was going counter to someone? He wasn't aware of any group of people that had banded together, much less single him out. What in the hells was going on here? He stepped forwards, pulling the pillow aside and onto the floor. He stared at the black feather for a moment before picking it up and examining it. Strange. He had thought for sure it would be a raven or a crow, but now he couldn't quite identify it. Maybe in better light. He set the feather back down on the bed.
"It means nothing to me," he replied, "I'm honestly ignorant in these affairs. I'm sorry you risked yourself to bring me this warning, m'lady, but I cannot take your advice. I will, however, leave this place early and take a different route home. Will that suffice?"

Agitated. That was the best way to describe the woman's reaction. Or nervous. She had obviously been hoping that he'd recognize some importance in the feather, but yet seemed to be wary about openly discussing it.
She looked toward the window again and then back at him putting the back of her knuckles to her lips as she took in a breath.
"Ask for a cloak from the Matron here, any that she can spare that might cover you best if you do leave. I'd almost say stay the night as it might not be expected, but pending your pocket and any concern for the women here, it falls to your choice.

"Thank you," he said simply, "I'll take your advice. And.."
She seemed so nervous. Was she betraying someone?
"And if you need shelter, do not fear to go to the city guard. Go straight to our building. I know other cities may be corrupt there, but I try and keep it best I can. My officers are trustworthy. They'll protect you, I swear it. And don't worry about me." He smiled quickly. "I can take care of myself. Lahmear light your path."
He offered her a quick bow and turned to leave the room. He called for the matron as he did so, requesting a cloak and handing over some extra coin for the girl's lost business and some more extra coin for her discretion.

To his well-wishes she made no bow as she watched him go. "May he exist for your future nights," she made as a last subtle warning before he turned the corner past the door.
Jay turned to lean on the wall behind her and press her head into the wood, knowing full well that she had little to persuade the man with when she came into this.
I tried. At least maybe he has a chance...
A chance that she had not when being escorted away by Caleb and his men.
She waited a time until she was certain the guard had left the building before leaving the room, approaching the Matron in regards to another way out, whether it be door or window.
Once outside the building, she hurried toward the road that would eventually lead to Fountain Street and the intersection with Tormor Gate.

-Stood there like a red paint against a gray scale canvas painting in the roadway as he was causally walking here and there towards the rangers direction while playing with his rat tail, close enough to just be there just in case but he didn't look all to focus on what his goal was to do-
"Out of all the places and nights I found someone that could be my gem, she disappears and I am stuck babysitting."
-he watched the people that still wonder the streets as he was hopeing his cloak covered his upper class look of a shirt.-
"Really don't want to be mugged either."

The ranger, taking fast strides down the street, nearly passed Roman without actually seeing him.
"Come here," Jay said, grabbing his cloak and trying to usher him into an alley off the street. "Are you by yourself or is Micheal around too?" she asked, her breathing quicker but the way her words came out made it sound as if it wasn't the complete fault of her hurried pace. Something was going down.

-Instantly obeying the fleshy that just grabbing and followed her with out a fight.-
"Micheal is back at the room." -His eyes had more of a glisten tint to them as they got in the more darken alley off the street.- "wanted me to just linger out and about.. I personally think I was finally succeeding on getting on the old mans nerves"

"Then you are coming along. I've just set myself up for a clash with Hanuvh, but I don't know when and if that might come to a head," she said looking back at the street they had just come in off of. "Feel like watching from the shadows not far off tonight?"
