Ulani grimaced, and Ulrich laughed outright.
"Aras and Kanis are two of the sweetest girls ever," Ulrich grinned at Donovan as they approached the house, "and Ruque is a wonderful boy. Ruran, on the other hand ... well, let's just say he had a tougher time of it."
Ulani led the way into the house. "Niyana?" she called out. "Aras? Kanis?"
Aliya smiled and put one hand on Ryu's shoulder to calm him. "She'll be fine," she assured him. "She's just an excited child, is all. All children are like that."
Alyse tilted her head suddenly. "Hey ... if you three are here," she murmured, "then that means your father is probably here ... which means there will probably be a hunt, right?" She looked at them curiously.

Donovan decided he probably didn't want to know what Ulani meant by that. The less the better, and less likely he'll do or say something Kara would whack him for later. It was a roomy house, but then again ti did have to hold four growing Seconds.
Ryu nodded at this, "Donovan is here with mother, Toshiro, Miyu, and the twins. Elnara and Lore are here to visit with their twins as well."
He suddenly felt himself pushed forward slightly as his sister leaned on his back and grinned over his shoulder.
"And Lin isn't here this time because she's off traveling the Southland and we don't know when she'll be back. Maybe in a few days or something."

After only a moment, Niyana entered the living room from the direction of the hallway. "Ulani," she smiled. "Ulrich. And ..." She tilted her head slightly. "Have we met before?" she asked Donovan softly. "I think perhaps we have, but a long time ago, and perhaps briefly ..."
Suddenly there were footsteps on the stairs to the right and two girls appeared.
"Donovan!" Aras exclaimed, jumping the last few steps. "Father will be so happy to see you! What brings you here?" She had grown to full adult during their time here, and she was as tall as Celebor now, her hair a bright gold, her eyes shining with youthful innocence.
Kanis was right behind her, walking a bit more slowly, more dignified, her cyan hair in a thick braid down her back. She looked at Donovan thoughtfully. She didn't know him either - but Aras had been the one to spend quite a bit of time with the man during Lore and Elnara's wedding.
Aliya was surprised. "That will make this the first visit that Lin has missed," she mused. "She'll be so disappointed."
Alyse's mind was elsewhere. She was looking down at Jasmine (who was watching the three guests openly now), a thoughtful look on her face.

Donovan chuckled, he barely recognized Aras even though she was the only blond female of her four siblings (they all looked different much easier to tell them apart).
"A hunt, but also we have two new fighters. Adult Seconds but they're not from the family, they're moving here and I need someone to help them settle as... they might have a hard time adapting."
He smiled, but it was the sort of smile that said he wasn't telling everything, he couldn't help but smile that way because he knew deep down if he said what was on his mind it wouldn't be nice. He was tring to be nice.
"Oh, and to clear things up I'm Donovan Lau. Part of the ever large Winters family."
"She'll have to get use to it," Ryu murmured, "She's a full adult now so she can travel wherever she wants- oof..."
He glared over his shoulder as he leaned over a bit. Feng was more or less on his back, and he wished she wouldn't do that.
"Can you imagine? It's going to be weird because she's going to be traveling a lot now and who knows she'll probably be gone for months and months... and...." "Feng.... get off."
Naida giggled into her cup watching her mother and uncle's antics, causing bubbles to appear in her cider. She looked back and forth between the two.

Aras smiled at Niyana. "Grandmama's family," she explained.
"I see," Niyana smiled. "Well, you're very welcome here. Aras, would you like to go with Donovan and help him out?"
"I'd love to!" Aras beamed. "Let me grab a cloak and I'll be right there!" She turned and ran back up the stairs again, taking them two at a time.
Kanis watched her sister run off, and then looked over at Donovan. "Who are the Seconds?" she asked him curiously.
Aliya shook her head slowly. She had changed a great deal since meeting Feng and Ryu, but it seemed as though they hadn't changed a bit - adults they were now, and Feng had a daughter of her own, but she was as silly as ever.
"You two are crazy," she murmured, amazed. "It's a miracle you're both still alive."

Donovan watched Aras go absently, "Their names are Corrah and Armus, I don't know much about them to be honest... well except what I'm told but that isn't a lot."
And of course he had never talked to Idhril about them, though he wished she had talked to him about them though.
"Not really," Ryu replied finally managing to stand up straight and thereby knocking Feng back, "We both manage, it's not like we get in trouble. Not like we use to."
Which was one of the most grown up things Feng had done was curb down on the sanity but you had to get to know her to realize that.
"They're fun," Naida pipped up.

It was as if Donovan had dropped a bomb. Kanis stared at him, slack-jawed and silent, but Niyana just about hit the ceiling.
"No," she snapped. "No. They are not staying here. Turn around, take them back. Now."
"Mother!" Kanis protested, finding her voice. She turned around and held her hands up, trying to calm her. "It's all right! Ruran was just an idiot, they're fine people!"
Aras was already on her way back down the stairs. "Did I hear that right?" she asked eagerly. "Corrah and Armus are here?" She clapped her hands together happily.
Niyana glared at Donovan. "Tell me it was just the two of them."
Ulani and Ulrich blinked in surprise. Of anything they might have expected, such a mixed reaction was not it.
Aliya laughed. "Well, that's good. I think we've had our fair share of trouble around here. And we just keep attracting more." She smiled faintly. "We've had a few more incursions with humans who don't like what we do here. Nothing we couldn't handle, but ... you know how it is."

Donovan resisted the urge to whack himself on the head, honestly he was trying to be good! His wife would have been so proud of him!
"You know..." he finally replied, "I was trying to do the nice thing and not mention they have had a less than good reputation among other Seconds, and don't glare me it's not my fault blame Idhril this was her idea!"
He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, this was becoming a mess, while the girls seemed to like him, the parental reaction was not good.
"There is only two of them, just those two, and I need someone to help damn well socialize them because they make Aragost look like a fricken social butterfly. Well... probably not Armus, she's good enough, but Corrah on the other hand needs people skills as well as communication skills. I can't ask any other Second, Toshiro doesn't like them, Miyu is terrified of Corrah, and Lin is prancing around the Southland, and even if she was here I probably wouldn't be able to get her to do it."
He sighed and shrugged his shoulders before admitting.
"She has her mother's heart but sometimes she's a bit too much like me."
"I guess it's too much to hope that they would stop," Ryu murmured, "And as far as I can tell Haven has been here for so long that... who knows what stories the humans are coming up about this place?" "Or far fetched tales," Feng added, "I mean... look Alyse as a cute little girl! It has been a really long while."
She paused as if to think about it more.
"I want to know if there are any far fetched stories about Donovan." "Why would anyone make any far fetched stories about Grandpa?" Naida asked innocently.

Niyana relaxed slightly, though it was clear that she was still upset. "As long as it's the two of them alone," she muttered darkly, "I guess it's all right." She swore under her breath.
Kanis headed over to the closet beside the door, brushing past Ulani and Ulrich to get to it. "I'm coming with you, Aras," she smiled.
"Sure," Aras grinned. "They'll be so surprised to see us!"
Ulani and Ulrich exchanged a glance, and then Ulrich asked cautiously, "So ... you know them already?"
Niyana looked at them darkly. "They trained Aras, Kanis and Ruran," she replied shortly, "but they are also part of the reason we left that world and came here. However ... if it's just the two of them, and they don't have that blasted wolf-boy with them, then I suppose they can't cause too much trouble for us. Right, Kanis?"
Kanis looked at her mother innocently as she pulled her cloak on. "What, Mother? Don't worry about me, I've grown up since then."
"That's what I'm worried about," Niyana muttered under her breath.
Alyse couldn't help but smile at Feng's comment about Jasmine, and she put one hand on her daughter's head. "But how time flies," she murmured softly.
Aliya smiled and nodded. "I think you would have to talk to those who don't live around here to hear the stories that are told, we don't hear anything here," she told Ryu. "And Donovan's not with on most of the hunts, only once every few years, so it's quite possible that most people wouldn't even know about him."

"Why do I have the feeling I don't want to know?" Donovan inquired even though it was purely rhetorical.
This was not a good way to introduce two people that he wanted Ulani and Ulrich to meet. He also wondered if he should be worried about the kids. He hoped not....
"Right just remember you two, I want you both to help socialize them. Just not spend time with them, let them know the other fighters, encourage them to interact with more people...."
"Probably not," Ryu agreed.
Which was just as well, Donovan would be happy to not have anyone know about him. He was that sort of private guy.
"All done!" Naida put the cup back on the table.

Aras blinked at Donovan. "They're nice, as long as you're nice to them," she told him. "Just don't be like Ruran. Then Corrah just might kill you."
Kanis rolled her eyes at her sister. "Corrah just doesn't know how to act with people," she corrected her. "And Ruran had a death wish."
Both girls had their cloaks and boots on and were now ready to leave. "Let's go," Aras grinned, opening the door and heading out. "Come on!" And she ran out into the day.
Kanis was right behind her. "We'll behave, Mother," she called back, "don't worry!"
Ulani and Ulrich were still both very confused, but they waved to Niyana and headed out after the girls.
Aliya smiled at Naida and reached for the cup. "Did you enjoy it?" she asked. Something of a silly question, perhaps, considering Naida's reaction, but still. It was good to get a real response.

Donovan twitched, he swore if another person told him it was that straight forward one more time he might whack that person upside the head. Or not it seems to be only the girls who have been saying that.
"Thank the ancestors I am not going to be here during the adjustment period," Donovan muttered as he waved good bye to Niyana and follow the girls.
For some reason Donovan thought this could turn out either very well or very badly.
"It was very very yummy!"
She paused as if she was thinking about something, she looked left and then looked right, and then wiggled her butt a bit so she could look at Jasmine.
"Do you want to play? Let's play!" "She's like a squirrel on coffee," Ryu commented watching the frightening bright smile Naida was giving at the moment. "She can't be, she hasn't had that much sugar yet."

When they started out towards the woods, Ulani called out to the girls, "We're stopping at Timaeus and Alyse's place on the way first to let Timaeus know about the hunt. So don't get too far ahead of us."
"We won't," Aras promised with a smile, her teal eyes sparkling brightly with excitement. She leaned closer to Kanis and whispered something to her, and both of them laughed.
Ulrich chuckled. "It's like they're still children," he grinned. "But then, with how fast they grow, I suppose that's natural."
A light blush sprinkled over Jasmine's dark cheeks, and she hid a little behind her hands. After a moment, she nodded. Then she looked up at Alyse. "Pway wif big fith, Nana. Be good!" And with a shy smile she toddled over to Naida and held one hand up to her. "Come, pway!"
Alyse smiled warmly. It was really the first time that Jasmine had ever met anyone new, and she had been a little worried after her little girl's first reaction to seeing Naida.
Aliya picked up the empty cups and set them on the counter. She would worry about the dishes later. "Do you give her much sugar?" she asked Feng curiously, nodding in Naida's direction. "I know sugar is much more readily available in your world ..."
Really it would be just about impossible for her to have sugar here, they hadn't had a shipment in a while, and what little they'd had left had been used in preparing food for the winter.

"Yea...." Donovan agreed, "If there are personality changes its subtle or you have to really think about it."
He could have swore that the mer twins hadn't changed, Ryu was born an old man and Feng was born like a young girl. Yue was still the ice machine of the school, and Yukito's sunny deposition had not changed at all. Even if it wasn't Seconds personality didn't seem to change overly that much. Triton may not be interested in traveling around, but he according to Kara was always mature.. and Lin actually followed through with her threat/promise in traveling.
"Sometimes they grow up too fast...."
"No!" both twins said together with perhaps a bit more force than they intended. Feng looked at Ryu and for once sighed actually looking her age, "Mid Autumn often means sweets between the mooncakes and the sweets in Yukito's pocket I couldn't get her to sleep that night."
And worse yet Halloween was coming up, at least her parents didn't actually practice Halloween, but it was an excuse for Yukito to buy candy and anyone with a business would be capitalizing on the "holiday".
Naida slid off the chair but instead of hitting the ground she ended up floating a bit, but not so high since she wanted to be her new friend's height.
"Let's play! Let's play!"

"They are quite different from when they first arrived, though," Ulani told Donovan softly. "They were ... well, other than Aras, they were all rather fearful. I suppose it's natural, coming to another whole world - I wouldn't be comfortable leaving here and going to your world, or the one that they came from ..."
Ulrich grinned knowingly at Donovan. "And trust me, even if Lin took as long as our children to grow up, it would still be too fast."
Aliya blinked at the vehemence of Feng and Ryu's unanimous reply. "I see," she blinked. "Well ... on the bright side, there's no sugar for her to get at here ... so I guess we don't have to worry about that?"
Jasmine was astonished by Naida's actions. "Fwy!" she exclaimed in amazement. "Fith fwy!"
Alyse laughed and reached down to pat her daughter gently on the head. "Yes, she's flying," she grinned. "But don't call her fish all the time, all right? Her name is Naida."
Jasmine blinked up at her mother. "Nai-a?"
