Ummy
You probably won't find an exact law word for word in any state constitution. Instead, we need to look at the results of Supreme Court Cases:

Wisconsin V. Yoder, 1972
Quote:
This case involves the fundamental interest of parents, as contrasted with that of the state, to guide the religious future and education of their children. The historyand culture of Western civilization reflect a strong tradition of parental concern for the nurture and upbringing of their children. This primary role of the parents in the upbringing of their children is now established beyond debate as an
enduring tradition.

Quote:
Thus a state’s interest in universal education, however highly we rank it, is not totally free from a balancing process when it impinges on fundamental rights and interests, such as those specifically protected by the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment, and the traditional interest of parents with respect to the religious upbringing of their children . . . This case involves the fundamental and religious future and education of their children.

Pierce V Society of Sisters, 1925
Quote:
The fundamental theory of liberty upon which all governments in this Union repose excluded any general power of the state to standardize its children by forcing them to accept instruction from public teachers only. The child is not the mere creature of the state; those who nurture him and direct his destiny have the right and the high duty, to recognize and prepare him for additional
obligations.

Employment Division of Oregon v Smith, 1990
Quote:
ut the Free Exercise Clause in conjunction with other constitutional protections such as ... the right of parents, acknowledged in Pierce v. Society of Sisters, 268 U.S. 510 (1925), to direct the education of their children, see Wisconsin v. Yoder, 406 U.S.205 (1972) invalidating compulsory-attendance laws as applied to Amish parents who refused on religious grounds to send their children to school.

Quote:
Yoder said that “The Court’s holding in Pierce stands as a charter for the rights of parents to direct the religious upbringing of their children.

There are a number more, but these should suffice.

Now... a lot of these cases began as objections to state laws that required PUBLIC schooling. Parents argued that they had the right to send their children to religious schools. Time and again, the Supreme court has ruled that parents have the right to raise their children (minors) in a way that the parent sees fit, unless the parental upbringing causes physical harm to the child. This includes matters of religion. Even the few court cases that have not gone in favor of the parents, it has not been because the courts were acknowledging the religious freedoms of the child, but for other reasons related to the cases.

Bottom line is... no, you probably won't find a law that blatantly says "Minors must practice their parents' religion". But the fact that parents have the right to direct the religious upbringing of their children falls under the Supreme Court's ruling in regards to Amendments 1 and 14 of the US Constitution.

For the curious... This PDF file sums up a lot of Parental Rights Supreme Court Cases...

Ok this may be a bit long, but I didn't really feel the need to make my own thread about it, though if you guys think so for future advice to others just let me know and I will.

Ok this is what I plan on doing

There is this area in my town that we call "Hells Gates". This is supposedly the place where Devil Worshippers, KKK, Wiccan, and other occut groups and such(you get my drift) go to practice their rituals and everything else. I've been out there many times during the day, and there are headstones made of bricks and such, and also an open circle. There are many myths behind this place depending on which group you are involved with or know more about. I've only known two people who go out there for religious practices, and they of course wont tell what goes on out there. Now I personally think this is all hype. I want to go out there, meditate, and become attuned with the area very well. Then go from there to see what the place is really like. Now I'm not one who is easily scare but I get the heebie-geebies going there in broad daylight. I've been once at night and I woudn't leave the car. So the place is full of bad vibes. I don't know if its just because we've all been told its evil our whole lives, or if it is really cursed for protection against... whatever they felt the need to curse it from. I really don't think the wiccans go to practice there, since the things that go on out there are against our beliefs. So basically I want to find out if the place is actually evil or not. And I'm going to find out myself because no one will speak on this matter.

Now what some of you may be thinking
1. your crazy
2. its dangerous
3. its not a big deal
4. etc. wherever you can go from there.

Now for what I am asking you guys
Do you guys have any advice? Yes I am aware this could be dangerous, but no I'm not backing down; I am a very spritually strong person. And stubborn not to mention. Do I need to protect myself? In the case that it really is a very harmful place. Anyother reccomendations?

PS no I'm not going alone, and I'm going during the day when I will be safe from others(its in a pretty bad neighborhood to boot).
I think I have everything planned out, but I figure others input would be a helpful thing

Also have any of you done anything like this before?

Yes, some protection would be good... I'd say essential, but if you get too paranoid about what could be there, it's going to affect whatever work you do. So find a good spell or charm or whatnot.

And spiritual realm aside, keep an eye out for yourself. You've said this is in the bad part of town, and that some of the less-than-friendly groups frequent the place. Definitely go in a group, in the daylight, and leave if you get uncomfortable. Finding out about the place may be a worthwhile investigation, but it's no good if you get hurt from it.

There's an area somewhat close to where I live where a lot of miscast and unbalanced magic had been practiced in the past. It definitely had a creepy feel to it, as if something was wrong. That might be what's going on with the area that you're talking about.

Of course, as you mentioned, it might just be that you've heard so many bad things about it.

Go if you feel the need, but if those feelings of uneasiness don't go away I wouldn't suggest going back. Sometimes our instincts are a lot better at warning us that something might be wrong than logic can be.

I'm going to get around to doing it soon. I've been working too much, and I don't like doing magic, meditating, anything of the sort when I'm stressed or tired, because I can't concentrate. I'm ADD, so the slightest things throw me off. But when I'm off sometime I will try to go and check the place out more indepth just to get a feel of things, before I try to do anything serious.

can i be a Wiccan and CHRISTIAN at the same time?
PostPosted: Sat May 14, 2005 7:56 am

A lot of people claim to do this, but I doubt it. Not only do the two beliefs strongly conflict, but if you are a Christian you are going against your God by also practicing Wicca. Wiccans have nothing wrong with Christians, but the Bible tells Christians to have a lot wrong with us.

I know some people who are, but as Sweetypop said, the bible has a lot of problems with magick and wicca. My only true wiccan friend was born to a family of hardcore baptists, and her father's bible has proved a plethora of information against witches and pagans.
The religions do not really conflict, because Christians have adopted (and adapted) many holidays and traditions to their need, and magick is just the bending and directing of energy, but they don't seem to see that...

Maybe it is the opinion of the Christian God that only he should be allowed to bend and direct energy.

Probably, but I don't see why...people do it every day without knowing or meaning to.

Iniquitous
can i be a Wiccan and CHRISTIAN at the same time?

There are people that combine the two, but I don't believe that they're Wiccan. Some Wiccans use Jesus as a 'God-like' figure in their practice. I've heard of this, but I feel that if someone practices both their neither religion. They can blend the two, making them a combination of both...but as far as a specific religion; as far as I know of, there is none.

There is a christian-wiccan religion. I believe that you can pray to the Christian God and the Wicca gods/esses too. You can also accept Jesus if you want to. I know Aradia in the Strega religion is similar to Jesus. I don't see why the two religions can't get along. If the magic part of Wicca bothers you there are Christian forms of magic too, you should try looking into the kabala.

If I really concentrate hard on something, everything in the room turns dark purple and white except the object I'm looking at, but as soon as I realize I'm doing that, Everything looks the same again. Any idea what I'm doing?
