Malag slowly slid into sight, slightly behind the new arrival. He appeared slightly haggard, but the satchel over his shoulder gave reason to his appearance. He moved behind the other as well, but took one of the gate guards aside, and showed him the seal that Veldrin had placed upon the contract.

"Would you inform Jabbuk Veldrin that I have returned with his prize? I am certain he will be interested..."

[NPC Gate Guard]Once the second arrival had given the guard his message, the soldier called another of the guards to keep watch over the gate and full out ran to deliver the message to Veldrin, who was in his private office looking over a security report from the sergeant of the watch. The soldier knocked twice on the door before receiving a rather annoyed response from within.

"Who's there, and what in the Nine Hells do you want?" Veldrin snarled, irritated by the disturbance.

"Two visitors have arrived at the gates, m'lord. The first, a female, seeks employment, and the second, a rather haggard looking male, said something about 'returning with your prize'."

His interest piqued by the guard's last statement, Veldrin took on a more civil tone as he replied, "Show them both to the parlor. I'll be with them shortly."

Shririak was startled by the newcomers sudden appearance and as one of the guards look over her stuff and took her many daggers and her sword, she glanced at him and the other guy.
Well, clearly its a busy day here at the Hun'Afin House. She thought grabbing her bag and following the guard. Hopefully, it won't mess up my chance to make an impression. It would make everything so much tougher.

[NPC Gate Guard]The guard returned a few minutes later, relaying the order to open the gates. "Follow me, both of you. Do take care, miss, to remain close, lest you accidentally set off the House defenses."

The soldier escorted the pair to one of the guest parlors (the same one that Malag had been in during his first visit) before stating, "Feel free to clean up and make yourselves comfortable. Lord Veldrin shall be with you shortly."

Shririak smirked as she looked around for a seat. Her eyes flicked around the room noting the poor and false quality of the furnishings.
I wonder if they have any Carpenters around here. They're fortress, weapons, and other military items are flawlessly made, but the other stuff. It won't last more then a fortnight...Blank mind now. Restart. Good. Now focus on why your here. To pay back and obtain the position your rightfully owed. She glanced around again this time taking in person with her and the guards at the door. She breathed out as she spotted a chair and letting her two bag slide to the floor, sat with an inelegant plop.

Tagerion, having recovered himself mentally from the fiasco of the events prior, still remained in the parlor.

As the two drow entered, one of whom he recognized as the insidious assassin from before, his pale eyes tracked them from beneath his visor.

He stood still against the wall nearest the door. His bulk making him seem more a statue than a man, he silently awaited the oncoming of his master, the faint pangs of withdrawal still simmering in his body.

Malag followed behind the guards and the woman, and made note that they had used the same path as before. He was pleased to notice that the room was the same one he had been brought to before. Good, he thought, no surprises... He took the opportunity to clean himself up a bit, smoothing his hair and rubbing the creases out of his cloak and clothing. He took a seat opposite the woman, and examined her swiftly. He knew better than to speak to a female first, particularly in a Great House, so he redirected his attention to the large guardian within the room as well. He could tell from the smell that the man was still suffering rather acutely, though Malag felt no sympathy for him; opening a door was easy, but closing it again was the hard part. He cast the human a nod of recognition, but no more.

Moments later, Veldrin entered the parlor where the two perspective members of the House waited. "Greetings," the assassin said cheerfully as he swept his gaze across the room. "I am Veldrin Hun'afin, weapon master of the House." Veldrin first addressed the new visitor to the House. "I have been informed that you wish to join us, miss. What exactly is it that you bring to the table?" He then turned his attention to the prospective House Assassin, "Ah, Malag, I take it that your mission was a success?"

((Gah! Not my best work, I admit, but I'm in the middle of a brain fart, but want to keep the story rolling...so if my next few posts suck, bear with me.))

(( 3nodding No prob, Veldrin. I'm just glad to see activity here again! Sorry for my own short post; dialogue makes it difficult!))

Malag glanced up when Veldrin entered the room, and a slow grin spread across his face as he hefted the sack gently. A soft squish echoed from within the burlap confines, though no smell; Malag had taken the precaustion of ensuring that no briny stench of rot would offend the new house.

"You are correct, Jabbuk. The mission went smoothly, and the target was eliminated without undue expenditure of resources or time. Quite a challenging battle, but nothing I couldn't handle. He's all yours; I just need to know what to do with him now."

One eyebrow raised Shririak couldn't help, but glance down at the bag that other had carried in with them. Oh so curious to see, but still my hand for there is work to be completed. With slight of eagerness, she bow at the neck to Jabbuk Veldrin.
Waiting for the lull, she entered presenting her reason for her presences. "I have several abilities I think you will find useful. From connections and trade, to good and stealthy informants. I can bring all that to bare for you."

Veldrin took the sack from Malag, opening it to confirm its contents...a jar containing an eyeball floating in a preservative fluid, alongside the severed head of the former House Assassin. "Very good, Malag," Veldrin responded. "As promised, the job is yours."

He then turned to his other guest as he continued, "Hmm...your proposition intrigues me, miss...I don't believe I've caught your name. While I would normally require a demonstration from each of our perspective members, to ensure that their abilities are up to our standard of excellence, of course, I currently don't have any tasks that need to be completed at the moment." He paused for a moment, considering the situation before he went on, "I think that I'll bring you in on a trial basis for now."

Malag bowed swiftly, and spoke quietly after the other maiden had spoken.

"I thank you, Jabbuk, and I will serve you well. You shan't be disappointed at my talents."

He then sat down promptly to listen to the other woman's story; she seemed to be a manipulator, a vital person who could put one into contact with a range of valuable allies. Something tingled in the back of his mind, but he couldn't quite place what it was. He knew better than to question a woman though, and remained silent, choosing instead to observe carefully.

The temptation to bit her lip for her slip up was high, but instead she simply stated, "I'm Shrirak Doltar and Thank you. And I am honored by your fair judgment and trust in my skills."
She gave another nod, with as ease she didn't feel. She had a feeling she now barely treading water, where as before she had been float above it. Oh how quickly positions change, and soon I'll floating again. Well...to some degree.

Tagerion scowled through his visor at the three drow before him, moving so little that he may as well be a statue. As his insatiable thirst grew he found himself becoming more and more anxious.

His body was dragging his mind closer and closer to the edge of oblivion with every strained second. For his own personal reasons the human despised these two new drow. There was no honor to be found stalking in shadows or in the manipulation of others.

As his bloodlust peaked upon seeing the contents of the bag, he fell into a formal bow, and spoke to Veldrin in strained, broken drow.
"My lord, if I may be so bold, might we test these newcomers on the field of battle? I shall have no qualms with the newest honored members of our house if their blades match their wits, and it would be my pleasure to root out any weak links if they fail to meet the challenge."

(Sorry folks, but I can't play a brooding statue forever)

((I've got your back Tagerion! Cruelly though it may be...))

A flash came through Malag's eyes, and he glared over at the human coldy. At his words though, an odd energy seemed to flow through him, and a smile ran across his face like liquid mercury.

"Indeed, Jabbuk Veldrin. The human speaks, and I concur... Tests are all well and good, but what surer way is there to test one's mettle than on the field of battle? Perhaps it would be best to observe a trial by fire, if you will."

His eyes flashed at the next words, boring directly into the human.

"I think it will be rather amusing to see exactly which weak link is left shattered this day..."
