Bouidicca comfortably_dumb Really, what I believe abortion-wise has nothing to do with being a Christian. I used to be hardcore pro-choice until my mom told me when I was 18 that she had an abortion when she was around my age now (which is 20). For some reason, everything since then has changed. Technically, I am still pro-choice. I believe that in a society like ours, making abortions illegal would have far more negative outcomes than good. I don't like abortion. I don't really approve of people getting abortions. But I know that the ability of having a legal abortion is far better than not and doing it the old fashioned way that would be very dangerous. Agreed, the last thing we need is to go back to the days of clothes hangers and back alley abortions. *nods* I wonder what the stats say about the rate of back alley abortions in the US question If abortion was made illegal then the birthrate in the country would increase, most women wouldn't shove a clothe hanger inside them and risk death. The ones who are desperate would. So basically we would be turning our backs on the women who were really in trouble, doesn't sound right to me.

Abortion is one of those problems and I'm afraid it can't be resolved until we have a relevant definition of "human being".
I personally am not that against it, because there are situations when woman should have the right to do it as it may affect her life's quality a lot. Yes, I am quite feministic and I'm sure many woman may give the birth just because they feel the pressure. Medias and people around, everything is telling her "oooh, having a baby is wonderful! it makes your life soo meaningful! and just look at Angelina... " XD
Killing is not good so I think it should be done very early. And I'd rather prefer condoms than killing the poor child. But there are moments when women should also think about themselves... Making children is not their only goal in life!

Dreamie Star I think that abortion is wrong. It is taking the life of the innocent before they are even born. Change two letter of abortion and what do you get? Adoption. There are other alternatives. Also, to avoid the need or wish to get rid of a child, there are ways such as keeping away from sexual imorality and being careful who you choose to marry. Adoption isn't all that great. Many people who want to adopt aren't able to. It's pretty costly. People have issues with gay people adopting. And white babies tend to have the best chance of being adopted, what about all the other kids? So if I never want a kid I should make sure the man I marry is sterile?

Oh yes, on my list of absurdal things one of the top positions is always the adoption law... And like to see homos being able to adopt (a dreamer...), at least they're often well educated and earning good salary people. I'm just afraid this would need some global culture modification and revolution of some sort.

I say that abortion is wrong. It's murder no matter how you look at it. If a doctor has to kill the baby when in the womb, that mean the baby was alive! Some may say that it's their choice whether they have an abortion or not. That's true, it may be their choice, but that doesn't mean it's okay. Just becuase the law (at least in the U.S. where I am) doesn't band abortion doesn't mean it's okay. If you talk to someone who has had an abortion, do they seem happy? Most women are full of guilt and confusion after having an abortion. Lastly, if you don't want to have a kid then don't have sex. And if a girl is raped that still doesn't give her the right to kill her baby, no matter the hardships. Abortion deels with the Culture of Death. That may sound cool to people, but really it's disgusting.
P.S. sorry if I've been offensive to anyone, I really am sorry.

I think it depends on the woman, what priorities she has, and what kind of situation she is in. I know one thing: it's always easier for guys to say "abort it"... And that may sadly never change... It's most often the woman who has to take care of the child and has her life completely occupied by it, and that's just because she's the one who gets pregnant.

I knew someone who was completely content with having an abortion because it was the right thing for her. I strongly disagree with forcing a raped girl to keep the baby. A man invaded her and left a baby to continue to the invasion for 9 months? And possibly the rest of her life if she has to keep the baby?

heart Rights go hand in hand with responsibility. Sure you have rights to have or not to have children. But it doesn't take a degree or a scientist to know what sex leads to. This really is a matter of common sense. If you conceive because you excersized your free will to spread them legs, then you have a responsibility for what may come thereafter.
Okay, let's touch on a delicate matter. Rape. Say a women conceives a child through rape. Her choice has been violated. But now she has another choice. It might not be so in that case, but even God uses sinners. Who is to say the child that woman bears will not bring some great deed into the world. Though conception takes many forms, every child is a gift from God. Would you so willingly throw away that gift? I would not. And I would not rear such a child as the son or daughter of a rapist, but as a child of God. heart

What if the woman decides to this because otherwise she'll die? Who knows if the child won't become a mass murderer? We don't know. The only one to make the choice is the woman which is actually pregnant. This is her decision and "helping her" with brainwashing is not so good. My only assumption is like this: law or religion have nothing to do with it. If they do, there's no freedom. Use condoms, please.

If I were forced to go through the pregnancy after being raped, I'd probably kill myself. Which would kill the child anyway.

Personally I don't think abortion is right, however I don't think that forcing a women to have a child is right either. It should be up to the women what she wants to do really. It would be her child afterall.
If I were raped, I would rather have an abortion. There is no need to bring a child into this world knowing that he or she was the product of a horrible violent crime. I don't know about you, but if I were the child, I would be absolutely devastated and would think that I'm a curse not a gift.

On the issue of abortion due to rape...
I'm for it if the mother decides. I'm speaking from a position where I was raped and could have been pregnant. I lived in a community who would have frowned on it, but it was the same mentality of "you got raped, so it's your fault. You were asking to be raped". In fact, that mentality kept me from coming forward about my rape for years.
I don't know if that experience is nationwide, or there's even a statistic for that, but my experience has shown that those who don't believe raped women should be allowed to abort a fetus if they chose also have a blame the victim mentality.

I hope it's not nationwide. That must have been horrible. I don't think those who believe that the woman should carry to term necessarily would have a blame the victim mentality. I'm sure some would, but many would see it as an injustice added on top of another injustice.
