Aya Sumner
Aya snapped off another piece of granola and tossed it a little closer to herself, readying a Safari Ball in case the Nidoran came to the bait.

"Just a little closer...you don't need to be afraid of me..."

Feeling a little more confident, the Nidoran finishes its mouthful of granola bar and hops over to the next piece. It settles down and begins to crunch on it, looking quite a bit more relaxed.

I walk up towards the looming entrance of the safari zone, a little nervous as I have not been here before and I heard that you are not allowed to use your pokemon to battle the pokemon inside.

As walk through the big doors and into the reception area, I check my pockets to make sure that in my nervous preparation I did not forget my wallet. To my relief It was where I always keep it and I walk towards the desk, trying to look confident and not give away that this was new to me.

Hello! Welcome to the Safari Zone! How can I help you?

[Love the new look, Jishin!]

"Alright, moment of truth!"

Aya quickly tossed the Safari Ball at the Nidoran, hoping to catch her.

(Thank you! I've been spending a lot of time on this thread, so I thought I'd try to dress appropriately. whee )

The ball bounced just short of the Nidoran, and cracked open, its bright red ray of light drawing her inside, granola bar and all.

The ball twitched ....

once ....

twice ....

.... started to bounce around wildly, then settled down ....

.... three times ....

DING!

Hello! Welcome to the Safari Zone! How can I help you?

"Err, hi! I'd like to catch some pokemon in the safari zone but I've only heard about this place from friends and I don't exactly know what I've got to do. sweatdrop I heard you were not allowed to use your pokemon in the safari zone, is this true? would I need to leave my pokemon here or could I just keep it inside it's ball? Also I was wondering how I'm meant to catch pokemon if I can't weaken it in a battle? It seems a little strange to me."

I look down at the floor through most of the questions, very nervous and trying not to stutter or stumble on the questions that I had clearly preprepared.

"Well, the Safari Zone is stocked with unusual Pokémon that are specially bred off-site so that trainers who wish to own one may capture one. Usually these Pokémon come from sensitive habitats, so it's better that a trainer catch one here than try to seek one out in the wild.

"You're correct in that you're not allowed to use your Pokémon in the Safari Zone. Battling can be tough on the surroundings and on the mental state of the Pokémon here. However, you don't have to actually battle to catch a Pokémon.

"If you decide you do want to catch a Pokémon or two here, you can purchase some Safari Balls. Safari Balls are specially designed to capture full-strength Pokémon, although they aren't always as reliable as a Pokéball. Also, Safari Balls only work within the Safari Zone, to prevent their abuse should they be taken to sensitive areas.

"You're welcome to keep your Pokémon with you in the Safari Zone. We do request that you keep them in their balls when you are not in a rest area. Some of our Pokémon are very territorial and can feel threatened or angry if a strange Pokémon suddenly appears in its territory. You can let your Pokémon out safely in the rest areas, since our Pokémon are aware that those areas are in use by unfamiliar Pokémon and tend to avoid those places.

"With Safari Balls, catching a full-strength Pokémon is easier. But if you're still having trouble, you can try to lull them into relaxing with food, or try to distract them in other ways. I heard we had someone last week who came in with a guitar and played music for the Pokémon he captured. Be creative -- there are a lot of options.

"Anything else I can help you with?"

I listen carefully to what she said and take it all in. When she finishes I start to speak.

"Ok thanks that helps a lot, I guess I'll buy 5 safari balls then. I hope I do well for my first time."

Once I finish speaking I look behind me to see if I was holding anyone up with all these questions as I reach into my pocket to pull my wallet out.

((Ok I'm setting up the trade.))

Thank you kindly. *slips the safari balls, shrunken as possible, into his pockets, and slinks off along the path, wondering if he'll see anything along the way*

As you pass through the Light Forest on your way towards the Poison Swamp, you hear a familiar buzzing sound. There seems to be a large swarm of insects fairly close by, though deep enough in the trees that you'd need to detour if you wanted to further investigate. (Do you?)

An unmistakably damp and mossy smell, mingled with the fragrance of lilacs, reaches your nose as you close in on the hill leading to the Poison Swamp. A tall wooden sign at the foot of the hill shows the map of the park, and your location. A smaller, more colorful sign next to it proclaims:
Poison Swamp
Straight Ahead

(Sorry about the lateness of the reply. Gaia's been giving me all sorts of technical problems.)

Drawing a ball from my belt, I pause only a moment at the forrest--and narrow my eyes at the buzzing. Bug-types have never been anything but a hassle for me, ever since I stumbled near that beedrill nest as a tyke--so, with all possible haste, I proceed--while, of course, maintaining my stealthy stride, keeping the ball in my hand.

(I'm having some problems with the leon server, which is what the bank seems to be attached to. Rest assured that I got your trade and am trying to confirm it.)

"I'm sure you'll do fine! Here are your Safari Balls."

"Which area would you like to explore?" Jishin gestures to the park map. "We have five zones, and each is themed with different Pokémon."

(No problem .... Gaia's being cranky for me too. Switch off of the leon server if you get put on it ... it is SLOW ...)

The air gets more and more humid as you make your way up the hill. The ground grows softer and clings to your shoes. As you round the crest of the hill, you see a large, marshy swamp off to your right. Thick tangles of bushes and weeping willows surround it, and you smell flowers and overripe fruit along with the rich dampness of the water and wet ground. The overgrowth is so thick here that you can barely see slivers of sky.

There is a sudden splash as something jumps out of the water and then dives immediately back in. All around you, the plants rustle softly, as if you are surrounded. Perhaps you are ....

I pay for the safari balls while glancing at the map. After I've finished, I attach the 5 balls to my belt next to a shiny yellow and black ball that already contained a pokemon.

I walk over and examine the map closely then after a moment I turn back to the person who sold me the balls and I speak again.

"I think I'll start basic, the light forest area should be straight out from this entrance building right?"

"Yep, just head straight out those doors there. You should be able to find your way easily. Good luck!"

(OOC: I need to run off and do boring adult-type errands like grocery shopping and stuff. I'll be back later! *waves*)

I go out the doors into the safari zone, if I didn't know different then this place would look like an actual wild pokemon field.

I start walking straight out from the building towards a grassy area a fair distance in front of me with trees littered across it. My hand instinctively resting on my occupied pokeball for a moment before I remembered the rules.
