9 am Kam turned around and looked at the two very unhappy occupants of her car. "Everybody ready?" Neither one of them answered or met her eye. Sunil was sitting, touching her developing black eye gingerly, and muttering something under her breath. Ruya was hovering by the window on the right side of the backseat, frantically searching for a way to get out. Unfortunately, Kam had turned on the child safety feature of the car and it was unlikely Ruya was going to get very far. After a few moments of tense silence, Kam continued cheerily. "Ok, well just so you both know we're going on a four day trip! We're going to drive from here," Kam held up a map of Illinois and pointed to their general location," to here, " Kam flipped pages until she found New Hampshire and pointed again. "This is where my parents live. We're going to go meet them and then drive home. In the meantime, I hope you two will learn to appreciate eachother. There isn't anything else to do so I suggest you too start talking." Kam started the car and pulled out of her driveway and into the street. In about 2 and half hours they should be skirting their way around Indianopolis, just in time for lunch.

Noon "Would you two shut the hell up? When I said talk, I meant talk, not scream at eachother for two friggin' hours!" Kam's outburst was met with silence, which had been the purpose, so Kam smiled. "Now, I'm going to have to put down the window in order to get us some lunch from this fast food place. If either of you makes a break for it, I'm going to leave you here. Trust me, neither one of you would survive long without me. Do we have a deal?" Silence. "I said, DO WE HAVE A DEAL?" Kam was at her breaking point. Not having babysit in a long time, she had forgotten just how annoying fighting children were. "Yes." "Whatever." Ruya sat down, a concerned look on her face, and placed her hands in her lap. Sunil just stuck her tongue out at the rear view mirror and then continued doing pushups on the seat. "Excellent." Kam pulled off the highway and into a Wendys drivethrough. When she had her food, she parked the car and started divvying up the food. While the food lasted there was blessed, blessed silence.

Dinnertime? "I don't see what you have to be so mean about everything! Violence doesn't solve problems it causes them." "So says the girl who tried to run me through the first time she met me." "You said you were going to kill my father!" "We've been through this. I wanted to kill your father. Wanted. Past tense!" "Both of you, shut up! I've heard the same thing from you about a hundred times. Don't you get sick of both being stuck in the same rut? Move beyond it. Is there any reason you two shouldn't get along if we ignore your poor inital meeting?" "No, I suppose not," Ruya answered grudgingly. Sunil grunted. Kam took the grunt to mean no. "Good because I think you'll like the scenery. Look at all the green! And we're starting to get into some of the mountains now. Isn't it nice?" "I'm actually a little hungry," was all Sunil had to say.

Woah. It had started to rain. Hard. Kam could barely see the road through the sheets of rain even though she had the windshield wipers on at full blast. It didn't help that the sun was almost gone and it was getting darker by the second. "Just a little farther guys. There has to be a hotel at the next exit. If I can see the exit to turn off." Sunil and Ruya were both sitting in the middle of the front passenger seat. They were trying not to look scared, but everytime a bolt of lightening lit up the entire sky over the road, bringing with it a deafening peal of thunder, they both jumped. Kam was trying to stay calm and set a good example, but she hated driving in the rain and it showed. Her knuckles were white, she was gripping the steering wheel so hard. Suddenly, for no apparent reason at all, Kam had the urge to slam on the brakes. She ignored it. Slamming on the brakes in this weather, even with ABS, would be disasterous. But the more she tried to ignore the sensation, the stronger it got. Eventually, looking to make sure no one else seemed to be on the road behind her, Kam slammed on the brakes and pulled the steering wheel to the right. The car dodged a little sideways, but didn't spin out of control and eventually came to a screeching halt in what was hopefully the breakdown lane. Ruya and Sunil were huddled together on the floor of the passenger side, eyes wide and staring at Kam. Kam was staring straight ahead as a flash of lightening illuminated the road briefly. In the middle of it was a rather large sinkhole.

It was a dark and stormy night... After a couple minutes, Ruya and Sunil realized they were hugging and let go of each other. Both of them were too preoccupied with Kam to make a big deal out of it however. "Uh... Kam? How did you do that? Ruya's voice was a little shaky as she climbed back up onto the passenger seat to look up at Kam. "Do what sweetie?" Kam continued staring straight ahead at the sinkhole. Maybe if she looked long enough it would somehow disappear, solving all of her problems. "Your hair changed color," Sunil remarked drily, "Thats what." Kam turned finally to face her two charges, scowling. They didn't look like they were joking around though, so she glanced in the mirror and screamed at what she saw there. Instead of its usual reddish brown, her hair was a light gray. This was all a bit much for Kam and she fainted straight away.

The Morning After When Kam came to the next morning, she had two feien draped over her, both of them sleeping soundly. Ruya had apparently fallen asleep on Kam's right knee and was starting to drool a little as she slept. Sunil was perched on Kam's left shoulder, snuggled in against her neck. Given the condition of the road ahead, it was clear the night before had not been a dream. What was in question was how best to proceed. Getting to her parent's house on time was going to be virtually impossible for Kam, but now more than ever she missed the security and normalcy her parents represented. Kam made a quick decision and started the car, waking both of the feien, who stumbled sleepily back over to the passenger seat. She pulled out onto the off road detour being used to bypass the sinkhole and continued east. As for making it to her parents' house, Kam figured better late than never.

Home Sweet Home. The second leg of our journay went rather uneventfully. I spent most of it both trying to make up time and figure out what exactly had happened the night before. Eventually I came to the conclusion I must have seen the sinkhole in one of the flashes of lightening without realizing it. Thats the only thing that makes sense.
Anyway, I didn't really notice what was going on in the back seat with Sunil and Ruya but I think they must be getting a long a little better. Nothing they did ended up drawing my attention so I'm going to assume they worked out their problems on their own.
Seeing my parents was nice. We didn't actually get here until pretty late at night, but they waited up which was sweet. I have a set of keys so they certainly didn't have to. The cats were a bit too interested in Sunil and Ruya. Luckily, flying presents quite the advantage.~Kam

Parents? I had an interesting talk with my parents today. We were talking about my gray hair and how it happened and my parents really didn't sound all that surprised.
I was surprised, so their lack of surprise was puzzling. I tried asking about it, but they would say nothing until I showed them the amber bracelet. Considering its rather odd origins I thought it worth mentioning. As soon as I did, my parents gave eachother that parent look. The one they give eachother when they know something you don't. Something they don't want to tell you, but it looks like you might find out on your own and maybe they should come clean.
Long story short, they ended up telling me I'm not their kid. It turns out my parent's first child died about a week after they got home from the hospital. My mother was incredibly distraught and when I showed up on the doorstep one day, she just took me as her own.
I arrived, stereotypically, in a baby basket with a pink blanket like those they hand out at the hospital. I wasn't wearing any clothes, but buried in the basket with me was a set of amber earrings. My parents saved them and I now have them, but I still don't know what this means for my future. What is the significance of the amber? Where did I come from? Why do odd things seem to be happening now and not before?~Kam

10am After the revelations of the day before, Kam was a little bit reluctant to leave for Illinois. She hadn't prepared for a longer trip, though, so going back was a necessity. Besides she kept feeling like something was waiting for her back home. The night before Kam had awakened in the middle of the night from about returning home to find someone inside waiting for her. They seemed to be trying to tell her something, but it was like being underwater. Kam couldn't understand a word they said. "Ok, guys. We're getting a semi-late start, but is everyone ready to go?" Sunil and Ruya both nodded, their cheeks too stuffed with banana chocolate chip muffins to respond. "I told my parents you guys diddn't need those things. They're not good for you." Sunil rolled her eyes and Ruya just nodded while taking another handful of muffin.

Sweet Dreams. Sunil, Ruya, and I stayed at a hotel last night. It was a much better night's sleep than the car was on the way out I have to say.
Once again I had the oddest most life-like dreams. Not only did I dream again of someone waiting for me at home with some sort of urgent message, but I saw myself packing my suitcase. My suitcase I already have packed in the back of the car for this trip.
The weirdest dream though was about Sunil. I saw her stealing a notebook from a Staples-type store. No one even noticed the little fairy winging it out of the store with a notebook as large as she is, but me. It was like I wasn't there though, no one could hear me when I yelled out to them about her.
I just don't know what is going on. I never used to remember my dreams this vividly. But at the same time they don't make any sense. I guess only time will tell whats going on.~Kam

Home again, home again, jiggedy-jig I'm glad we're finally home. That last leg of the trip took longer than any other even the one with the storm. Somewhere along the way Sunil and Ruya decided that to pass the time they would spar. Luckily neither of them had a weapon because Sunil managed to beat the crap out of Ruya.
I should think that the outcome would have been obvious to Ruya before they started. She is smart. Sunil is much bigger than her and has actual fight experience. I have to assume Ruya, for whatever reason, wanted to see Sunil fight. After I started to think they were getting along, I know realize I may have to reassess that belief. The car trip may just have been a temporary cease fire.
So I'm trying to apply little pieces of ice and bandage to Ruya in hopes the sweeling won't be too bad where Sunil punched her. It looks like it should fade, Ruya appears not to have super delicate skin and I think to some extent Sunil went easy on her.
Speaking of Sunil, she went up to her room as soon as we got home without a single word. I think she needed some alone time.~Kam

Back At Last Tera's Notes Met my first Feien today, a pair of them. Corvus, a black colored fairy that is about seven inches tall, and Aileron, a white colored fairy that is about eight inches tall. Both appear to be highly intelligent to the point of arrogance. Their interaction was interesting; however, I was distracted by the manifestation of our first Sigil, so I wasn't able to pay as close attention to them as I wished to. A came again into the shop. He and Kef really don't get along for some reason. I attempted to ask Kef about it, but all he would say is that he didn't like "that stuck up little sqeuetrda", whatever that means. Sometimes I think those Sigils have a language of their own. A's well spoken, articulate, very intelligent. I wonder if this is a trait they all share? I'll have to start going by the Feien shop. Corvus, male, Darkness Gogol, male, Light Aileron, male, Air Gekisho, female, Heat San, female, Earth Aoiro, male, Water Tosten, male, Air Selene, female, Sky Luca, male, Heart Seamus, male, Water Shoe, male, Cold Heiko, female, Darkness Miyako, male, Earth Saffron, male, Life Sunil, female, Air Aria, female, Water Ares, female, Time Arturo, male, Metal Yeande, female, Darkness Darkness 3 Light 1 Air 3 Heat 1 Earth 2 Water 3 Sky 1 Heart 1 Cold 1 Life 1 Time 1 Metal 1 Uneven balance; original race so divided? D/L 3-1; A/E 3-2; H/C/W 1-1-3 Life? Time? Metal? Heart? No pattern, no reason. Grandmother would be pleased. My first visit to the F shop was uneventful. I did, however, manage to read everything that was posted; quite a bit of information there. I've already listed the Feien currently in existance, their genders (apparent genders, as they seem to be asexual, actually), and their elements. So many variations. I've only met two so far, and it seems I have many to go. Will I ever come into my own? If so, which element would be best for me? I don't see myself as getting an option, really. Other questions were brought up by further information. Inherently magical beings, it would seem. As for the final aspect mentioned... Eternal life. I'm surprised these creatures do not naturally have that, but I imagine that if their race has died of its own accord, it's not so surprising after all. My theory? The F race died after lack of magic in their world; current Fs must bond and thus share energies with a mortal. Best bet for these creatures to survive indefinitely? Access to unlimited energy. Mortals can only survive and give off so much energy of their own. What changes would this bring about? Unknown. Old chestnut, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely", may not be far off base. Of course, changes take place during the F breeding process. Perhaps observing the by-products of this process will give a better idea of what might happen. All I know is that any F I come into, I would want it to live as long as I do. Eternal life? No longer mine, but if my F would wish it, I'd certainly do what I could to help my F find the secret. Perhaps I should begin searching now? A group of four this evening. I found the F that I saw tonight to be quite entertaining. Sunil, a blue colored F, seems to be rather forceful with her leadership procedures. The others, a second blue with three eyes, another blue with a small horn, and a green F who appears to be well mannered. S reminds me of myself, after I had gained my independence of L's control. She has claimed the group of them as her "gang", to which the rest readily agreed. She seems to be the only one of the four without some sort of rare attribute, unless she has one that will not show until she grows. Eyes... So many differences with the eyes. I wonder if the genetic make-up of their eye structures is affected by the energies of the Summoner when he brings them forth, or if it's something else, something less random. I must again make a note to speak to Em about obtaining a F of my own. I spotted her as she left with C tonight, too late again. More F today. Miyako, the male Earth F, and his bond, Kimiko. I've not met K before; a few of my close friends have F, but of those, only A have I met. A reappearance of the blue horned F, who's name is Tosten, and another F, this one white, named Gogol. They seem to be rather close; perhaps the first to breed? Perhaps not. Their attentions seem to be turned to less serious matters. Light and Air would not be a match I would have made, but I imagine that the F work differently. I heard reference to a F I've not yet met, Luca, who was referred to as a princess. I wonder why he is referred to as this? My notes show that he is male, his element Heart. Ares appeared as well, the F that I saw of the three eyes. Time, then. I wonder if that third eye is bound to the element? Time is said to be rare beyond belief, and I imagine that the third eye is as well. Along with continuously missing Em, I seem to be missing all the fun as well. I've heard rumours of a fight after some of the F got into the back room and painted it in various shades of F paint. Se was said to be the leader of that particular escapade, from what I heard. Then again, many say that C was over reacting. F politics? Ye gods, it's a miniature version of everything I thought I left behind. (Here, several pages are ripped out. The next to read begins mid-sentence.) I'll then have the answer I seek. I need to share my findings with Trio. I had the strangest dream last night, a waking dream. In it, I had awoken to find a flower on my pillow, a red rose with orange leaves. It was warm in my hand, and I had the instictive thought that it was a F bloom. I sat with it, then laid back again, fell asleep in my dream and shifted over into older, more familiar, though less welcome, nightscapes. When I awoke, the bloom was gone. What does this mean? Will I be obtaining one of my own soon? I've been reluctant to approach the store, though I'm not sure why. Watching the creatures seems to make me aware of something I'm missing. The dreams still come. Every night, every day even, I find myself seeing and interacting with a bloom that does not exist. Am I losing my mind? My other housemates have taken to avoiding me. Mayhaps I am losing my mind. It would not surprise me. Not in the least. If I could bring myself to see the little ones, I'd go and see if any knew of the bloom I've been seeing in my dreams. I wonder how oft a mortal comes to them with such questions? Of course, that'd mean I'd have to leave the Sigil shop alone to Trio, and as active as Kef has been lately, I couldn't do that to her. I am finally back from that hideous trip with Kam and Ruya. Not much useful came of the trip except that I have learned some things about Kam that may be of use to me in the future. Also I did get to beat up Ruya under the guise of "sparring".
For my own sanity and to shut Kam up, I pretended through the trip to be ok with Miss Know-It-All Ruya, but the truth is I despise her. I dislike that Kam always takes her side. I dislike that she admires and wishes to emulate her father. I just dislike her in general. Someday I will kill her, just as I plan to kill her father. Unfortunately I will have to hide my involvement in Ruya's death from Kam, since I know she would not approve.
The entire trip I was thinking about the notes I had waiting here for me at home. I was very disappointed to have to wait to read them. Now that I have discharged my duties and gone along with this trip of Kam's I should be able to read through the notebook undisturbed. I can only hope Tera doesn't know its missing. Since I haven't had anyway to get in touch with Maq or Q, I wouldn't know.~Sunil

Oops! Kam knocked and then quickly opened the door to Sunil's closet. She had a tiny bowl of cheerios in one hand and a smile on her face. "Sunil? I just wanted to thank you, " Kam stopped midsentence and pointed to the notebook open on the floor, "What is that? I didn't give you permission to read my notebooks." Kam reached out for the book, snapping it shut. Sunil jumped back and barely missed getting pinched by the closing book. She glanced around and tried to decide what the best course of action would be. Meanwhile, Kam had set down the bowl and was reading through the notebook, flipping pages with a frown on her face. "This isn't mine. Where did you get this?" Kam fixed Sunil with a determined look and Sunil cleared her throat nervously. "A friend lent it to me." "You have non-feien friends? Do tell." Kam's tone made it clear she wasn't buying Sunil's bullshit. "Ah... yes, well... Maquinar's bond is Tera and she lent me that notebook she had been keeping notes on the feien in." Sunil scowled. Her story should hold up without question. How would Kam know whether Tera had given her the book? She wasn't there when Sunil had taken it. Kam wasn't looking at Sunil just then. Instead she was staring, her eyes unfocused, in the direction of the notebook. "I don't know how, but I know you're lying to me Sunil. I'll have a talk with Tera about this notebook of yours." Kam slid the cheerios into the closet and then stood up to close the door and lock it with a grin. "Get comfortable Sunil. You're going to be in there until I get to the bottom of this." Inside the closet, Sunil just stared at the door in disbelief. Who was this woman and where was the usual laid back Kam?

Home Sweet Home I am so glad to be back in my own home. I really don't like travelling. Beyond the fact that Kam totally went to pieces, I just hate being in so many different places all the time. Especially hotel rooms. Who even know who cleans them? And they're arranged so that no one can get any privacy at all.
Also I missed my pets. I had no idea how attached to Rishi I was until after we left.
I think Sunil and I are getting along better, which I'm not sure how I feel about. I don't like her, but I suppose harmony is better for the household as a whole. She is the type of person who would bring my pets into a fight that should be just between us. She will bear watching.~Ruya
