Well, fawN has described this better in the past, but I will give it a try. A quest is basically a persons wish. They create a thread in order to show their progress towards reaching that goal (item/items). The thread that is created gets bumped by many that visit. Often the thread creater gets visited by one of the many charities here on Gaia. They may donate gold or items in order to help the quest along.

So by other people bumping the quests, it keeps them near the top of the page.
Which then means that the charities can find them easier.

Hmmmmm, I wonder what my most expensive outfit item is? Might quest for it. smile
Is there a way of putting some gold aside? Like the bank in Neo?

A savings account is not yet possible here. That is why many create a spare account. That way the gold is out of site unless you use that account. It kind of keeps it out of the way.
Yes bumping brings up the thread for others to see it.
