Our bd changed the hours and the length of band camp. Now we have to stay 8-5 every day for the next two weeks. The good thing is that our lunch is now an hour and a half instead of just one hour. smile

I'd hate to start at 8 in the morning. >_> Ours is 9-9, with fridays being 9-4. Like, 8-8 would be the same length...but then I'd have to get up an hour earlier than I already do, and that just sucks when you're used to getting up at 1 PM.

I'll be heading to my first band camp on August 2nd.

What i'm actually mostly worried about marching band is memorizing music. I mean, friends have told me that its not that hard, that you play it so much, you just start memorizing it on your own.

God, I just don't know D:

Clarinet Goddess says . . .

♭♮♯Dance to the Rythym,

Band camp starts in a week.

Aug 2-3: Freshman band camp 8-3.
Mandatory for all student staff, percussion, colorguard and new members

Aug 4-6: Full band camp 8-9
Mandatory for all

Aug 9-10: "Beat the heat" band camp 12-9
This one is a way of helping us to "not die". Have yet to figure out why two days out of a week are supposed to keep us from dieing.

I'm nervous/excited/I'll admit terrified.
This year will be my first year as clarinet Section Leader. Better yet, the music is a bit challenging. this is where the terrified part come sin: I have a week to figure out how it goes. Even better, we are getting a new BD this year.
Think it can't get any worse(or maybe not lol): There is no news as to whether a new bd has been found or not. Last time i checked, it was not. So band camp+no bd+new sl+hard music+heat+scared=a recipe for disaster...

So, this wasn't really at band camp (it's the week between mini-camp and band camp), but whatever. :]

So, we had just finished sectionals- we just got a new piece of music, so I was practicing all the runs that are in it (saxophones have parts with the mellos sometimes, but otherwise we're on our own; it's awesome B] ), and I look up...to see the entire low brass in two lines, shuffling around with their instruments moving like train wheels and going, "Low brass train! Choochoo!" Uh, yeah. xd I said to my self, "What are they on? xd " and my director was just like, "...Don't ask." This is why I love marching band. :]

Something else that happened that day! Not really funny or anything, but after the low brass train, I went back to practicing. Someone told me to look at the sky, so I did...and it was completely pink, with the clouds being amazing and awesome and such. (Sky appreciation!) I wanted to get a picture, but I didn't have time to. :[ I think one of the techs might have taken a picture of it, though.

@ Terra:
Haha thats why low brass is amazing

in our low brass we gave most of the people names and stuff for instance im Le-a (sounds like ledasha) my friend is lillian, so on so on, and me and him will dance around the field and sing and stuff in between sets and since he is ADHD off the wazoo and im quite random Sectionals are so fun

me and him call one of the male Staffers mama Dave and today i was like wow david your like old enough to be my Grandma you should look into one of them old people places (the staffers only 23)

before the first set we are supposed to strike and angry pose that looks dangerous and threatening but since we dont have instruments on the field yet i cant really make one so i just put my hands out like i have claws and when ever a staff member goes by i go "meow... meow meow meow meow meow" which normally just makes them laugh and they will purposely walk by me now to see what im doing

this is why Marching Band = the shiz

Gekkei-Senpai
Marching Band IS fun, but--it's a little difficult. I, unknowingly, got a really bad sun burn for not (call me crazy) wearing sun block. I almost cried twice. I'm the kind of person that gets really frustrated when I can't things right. Our drill is so weird. My friend (saxophone player) has to take these giant steps just to get to the second coordinate on the field.
We're playing some Jackson 5 songs in memeory of Michael Jackson. We're playing: I Want You Back (weird arrangment), Rockin' Robin (saxes have the melody, whoo!!!), I'll Be There (we have the melody again!), and ABC (strange arrangment).
I have to tell a little tip. BAND CAMP IS THE WORST PLACE TO GET A TAN! I'll tell you some tans (or sun burns as I call them) that you get there:
- Farmers tan
- Hat tan
- Ice Cream tan (sun burn is chocolate, tan under the sun burn is strawberry, and the whiteness under the tan is vanilla, which I have)
- Watch tan
- Sock Line tan
- Half Body tan (when you march, the sun might be facing your left side, and your right side might not get the same tan) (half white, half tan)
- Head Root tan /sun burn (when the sun is facing up, make sure to wear a hat) (the sun might roast your scalp)
- Sun Glasses tan
Make sure to wear/ bring these things when outside:
- Sun Block
- Aloe (if you have a sun burn)
- Sun Glasses (unless you don't want circles around your eyes)
- Hat (make sure not to put it all the way on your head) (you might have a tanning line)
- NO Open Toed Shoes
- WATER! (it'll be great to be able to not be dehydrated)
- T-Shirts with Short Sleeves (tank tops or spaghetti straps might get you the WORST sun burn ever)
Band Camp is fun, and like I said, it's difficult, speaking that I almost cried. But hey, I'm only a freshmen learning the basics ropes of marching. And like some of you at your school, they adopt a freshmen (but doesn't buy). I'm a freshmen, and I'm not sure who's gonna adopt me. I think my friend, Kim, a Junior Marching Baritone player, is, but she doesn't know yet. We don't do anything like throw stuff away for them or carry their case or anything; the people adopting the freshmen help them out with the drill we have to do or with the music.

me and my cousin have obtained the half body tan...the sad thing is...we are Mexican and that means its permanent... crying

Ugh even if it's my second year at band camp, I still don't know how I'm gonna survive. These newcomer freshmen are so rowdy we're always running laps or doing push-ups because of them. Grrr and it's only the third day! sweatdrop

I just got home from my third year of band camp, and it's never over ._. My feet are dying and I was the ONLY trombone player we had because the other went to London, the whore.

But, I had a great time. We found a big green vibrator, still in the package, and chased our BD with it. >w>

There were also shinnanigans with water guns, rice crispy treats, Harriet Tubman and a**l. Good times..
