Too.... many.... possibilities.... *brain breaks*

A solution to keep all happy?
Floating city, flying district on tethers, underwater labs on the underside; affiliated with Port Anachronism - an island base, refuge in case drastic repairs etc. are necessary, has underground bunker.

Also in space.
I don't think the underside should be relegated to just labs, but also with some places for the general public to come and observe under sea life.

I mean, if you pass by a coral reef, people are gonna wanna see it, and not just scientists.

Worry not, it was never going to be just labs!
That is just one of the many things that may-or-may-not be in the underwater sections; I was just trying to keep that description succinct.

Captain Amaranth
- An underwater section - specifically, vast underwater domes of thick glass, filled with not just laboratories but also homes for the fish-loving and restaurants and such. Also submarine/bathysphere pens and such.

And this is assuming that is the idea which actually ends up being used; which may not be the case - particularly in light of very strong support for a flying city [thus no underwater sections].

It looks like 50% of the voters are still favouring the in the air option, the rest somewhat scattered. How's the finalising going? I suppose that if in the end the majority still favour the designs without waterfeatures you could have your little personal vessel to explore with? I guess some votes could be a bit outdated though.

However it does seem like people are very enthralled by the underwater sections a floating ship would have as I am so I hope that they'll somehow be included.

Good luck! smile

what i would say is on land. but a port city.

my reasons:

~land is ment to be explored. and i think some forgot about our steam powered cars.
~it gives a better and larger port for air ships.
~expansion
~a port city can have homes on the sea and near or on shore.
~variety.
~easyer access to raw materials.
~good port for steam boats and Uboats(subs for those who arnt familiar with teh term) AND Airships.
~ homes can be built underground also subway systems and even shops.

There are dozens of other reasons but i'm really tired for some reason.

Halo Fauna
I rather like the cliff city idea. I had one similar in mind.
The city would be housed almost entirely inside the cliff. On the top would be a single small building, a trading post/airship dock.

It appears I neglected to mention that it's an island.

I really like the idea of a floating city in the sky...but the other ones are just as appealing!

Maybe there should be "main base," then "sub-cities" in varying size according to popular vote. If that makes sense/is possible. I really don't know the background of the guild or the intentions of the Captain, not did I read the entire thread (so far only about two pages) but I figured I'd just throw in some input. ^.^

Putting aside for the moment I am not bald; there is nothing wrong with bald captains. Captain Picard, for instance.

I know exactly what you mean. x.x

It is a might interesting idea, that; but part of me wants the city to stick together, as it were. One big thing.
Thanks for the input. smile

Yeah, a tiered city like that might lead to "lower classes" being made to live in less favorable sections, kinda like in Mortal Engines how the traction city's lower classes are made to live near the main engines.

We may have tiers, but I will not abide less favourable sections.
[except Arkangel, where you'd want to be close to the engines because it's so darn cold]

Heaven forbid some part of Anachronism be common or cheap! We are citizens of fine culture, arts and words! We do not allow filth to intergrate itself onboard!

The how, good sir, would you explain your own presence here?

But seriously, what stuff and nonsense! Anyone with a decent head 'pon their shoulders has a place here.

'Twas a jest.
I was only making a joke (a farce, really), of your previous comment.
I apologise if no one picked up on my humour...
