"O-of course!" Sue stuttered at Kishuna's mention of her hesitating too much. Opening the cork of the glass bottle, the nomad let the clear liquid of the 'heal all' pour into Rei's mouth. Hopefully, he'd at least wake up and talk to her and the others... "Rei..."

And the wolf stood and stared as more unfolded around her. Everything was a haze in her mind, clouded not by rage or confusion. If anything, it was mental fatigue. Her body, too, struggled to stay upright as her eyes distantly observed the battle before her. Dull noises tumbled in her ears, shouts reduced to muffled grumbles. She both understood what was happening and also did not entirely comprehend it.

Ed felt her chest constrict and her breath leave as a shock wave blasted through. She folded her ears, braced against the force as the surge rattled through her fur and nearly sent her to the ground again. She felt her instincts fire to flee, for she knew she was weak, and this phenomenon was simply a frightening one at best.

Then all went quiet. She opened her eyes to runes trickling through the earth, emanating a benevolent energy. Ed was terribly confused. Had Rei not been the enemy just a moment ago? What happened? Who took him out? Had he done it himself? The signs were pointing that way.

And her friend was on the ground, barely a carcass...

If she had considered leaving tear ducts in her eyes, she would have felt tears. But wolves cannot cry and so, with her vision clear but her heart in turmoil, her numbness succumbed to a girl's sorrow. Ed rushed over to Rei, whining, crying loudly, her muzzle quivering in tearless sobs. She hadn't meant to kill him just those few minutes ago, and she couldn't remember that he had meant to kill her...

Don't...go...

Unable to understand that he had a good chance of surviving, the wolf stood there, head bowed and lip trembling.

Amelia only pulled away from Rei as Rhys took his wrist, and then the sound of hoofbeats made her fall backwards. Sue had been just about to administer a vial of Elixir, but Kishuna stopped her. Amelia watched dimly as Kishuna did... something... and then Sue poured the Elixir carefully into Rei's mouth and down his throat. Amelia swallowed painfully, looking to Rhys with wide eyes. They had been working for so long -- well, she had been, at the very least -- to get Rei back to normal, and for him to die now... after he seemed to have found himself again...

"He'll be okay... r-right?" she asked shakily. She looked at Rei, then to the others; Ed sat in anguish near Rei and, despite his last effort to help them, they were all still pretty beaten up. "We'll... we'll all be okay...?" Amelia reached out and hugged Rhys tight, like he would be the next to collapse, and the sudden thought of that occurring filled her with more terror than she thought imaginable.

"Oomf!"

Amelia hadn't taken into account the facts that 1) she was wearing heavy armor, meaning that a tight hug from her made Rhys' lungs' job difficult and 2) Rhys was sick anyway.

Still, as he wriggled a bit out of her grasp, allowing himself a bit more breathing room, he paused. He wasn't sure if Rei was DEAD, but...

Will we all be okay? I--I don't know. With times like this, I... I know I thought these days were just more days "in Paradise", but with one thing after another... I wonder if the grass truly was greener on the other side.

Getting his arms free, he wrapped them around Amelia, bringing her close in silence.
Where do you find the right words?

For a brief moment, he remembered how Ike and Mist had acted, following the death of Greil at the hands of the Black Knight. That moment, Rhys felt, had been the darkest hour of the mercenary band--their future seemed uncertain, their leader was dead, and nobody--not even Mia--was able to find a smile. But Ike and Mist suffered worst of all. Ike had been unable to sleep for days, and Mist... she cried quite a bit. But what enabled her to keep going, to do what she did was...

"I'm... we're not going anywhere, Amelia. We'll be fine. I promise."

It sounded extremely cheesy, like something out of those old stories Rhys' uncle would tell him, epic bardsong and saga from across the continent. But sometimes... well, saying something extremely cheesy was the right thing to do. At least, that's what he imagined Ike would do. Ike was all Mist had at the time--what could he say? "I don't know whether we'll live or not"? No way. Optimism was a much better way to cling to life than pragmatism or pessimism.

"O-Oh...!" she gasped, realizing her mistake as Rhys tried to put a bit of distance between himself and her. She loosened her grip, feeling stupid now on top of feeling forlorn. "I'm sorry, I should have thought to... I mean, with the armor, I should've remembered..."

She trailed off as he hugged her on his own terms, not once saying a word. Amelia paused, blinking rapidly to stave off a few surprising tears, then rested her head against his shoulder, closing her eyes. As much as she wanted to be strong, to keep others from worrying on her account and protect the ones she cared most for... sometimes it was nice to just let someone else be braver and let you cry. She wrapped her arms around Rhys' chest, keeping him close to her as she simply breathed, cheek on his shoulder, eyes closed and facing his neck, calming herself down.

"I'm... we're not going anywhere, Amelia. We'll be fine. I promise."

There was enough certainty in those words that Amelia knew she could believe him. She nodded once against his shoulder, relaxing a little. Rei had gotten an Elixir; he would be fine. The others were at well enough to get to Fefga's for a good, long rest.

Latona, let the others be all right... let Tibarn and Abel and Nils be all right. Don't let us lose any of the others. Please. Amelia sat up, rubbed one eye, and smiled a little at Rhys, gratitude in her expression.

"I'm holding you to it," she told him matter-of-factly, laughing weakly. Her eyes turned to Rei and Sue, and she cleared her throat. Technically, she was still their 'leader.'

"Sue... do you think Rei is safe to be moved now? With that Elixir in him. I think Ninian's just too tired to walk on her own, and I'm not letting anyone get left behind. I'll carry Rei back. He shouldn't be too heavy." Amelia slowly rose to her feet, brushing grass from her knees.

Rhys gave a small smile in return. Hey, Siegell got Nils, and... it sounds like Rei will be okay after all. At the very least, we've won on this end. At least, Siegell should... where is he, anyway? If he got Nils, shouldn't he be back by now or something?

"I don't think I can move much, either," Rhys said, lying back down again. "I just feel sick after all that's happened. I just want to find a nice, warm bed and not move."

Rhys grimaced. He HATED being sick. He wouldn't be able to move around much, and there was always so much to be done in a day, plus there was all the devastation going around. We he honestly going to be stuck in a bed for days on end? The next few days would SUCK!

Siegell and Shastah

PostPosted: Thu Apr 30, 2009 4:53 pm

A shadow slid over the small clearing and defined itself as the wyvern casting it circled lower and lower and finally dipped below the trees. Shastah stretched languidly as he sank his talons into the dirt and turned to face the others. His wings stretched up once, then were folded to his back while Siegell twisted in his saddle and untied Nils' prone body from between two of the huge wyvern's dorsal spikes.

His own straps undone, Siegell carefully, nimbly hopped to the ground with Nils slung over his shoulder and approached the others. "He's okay," he assured Amelia once he was close enough. "Just concussed. Wasn't really any trouble at all." He offered a smile and carefully laid Nils down on the ground, supporting his head so it wouldn't whip around and smack on a root or something.

Amelia frowned at Rhys' condition; had he been sick before Rei pulled her into that negative space? She knelt down next to him, brushing his hair tenderly off of his forehead. "Sue," she called over to the Nomadic Trooper without looking up, keeping her voice low, "would there be any way for you to carry Rhys, too?"

She paused as she felt the distinct sensation of something above her head. Her eyes went up, and immediately took in Shastah's massive white belly above as he circled again and again, eventually landing on the dirt. The way he stretched vaguely reminded Amelia of a cat; long, relaxing, moving to get all the muscles stretched and remove tension. Amelia stayed kneeling next to Rhys as Siegell turned around in his saddle, not finding a good reason to stand just yet.

At the sight of him untying Nils, however, Amelia was on her feet in an instant. "Is he all right?" she demanded, more concerned than anything else, as she rushed over.

"He's okay. Just concussed. Wasn't really any trouble at all."

Amelia let out a long breath, one hand pressing to her breastplate in the general location of her heart. "Goodness, scare a girl... arrive with a limp, unconscious Nils after Rei's knocked himself clean out, nearly killed himself, and you practically gave me a heart attack." She smiled, though, grateful once again.

"Thank you, though. Really." Amelia nodded slightly to him. One hand reached up to her face, rubbing at a dot of perspiration under her chin, and her thoughts flashed back to Christmas. An uncomfortable feeling prickled in the arches of her feet, but she kept it off of her face, giving him another small smile before kneeling next to Nils, looking him over carefully. "Could... you be so kind as to carry Nils back to Fefga's for me? Ninian's dead asleep, I'm already carrying Rei back, and Rhys could use a move back, too... he's gotten a little ill from the strain."

Forgotten Morph

PostPosted: Thu Apr 30, 2009 5:29 pm

Kishuna sighed, then got to his feet once again. He staggered a bit, then moved over to Rhys and pulled him to his feet. "Come on, now, bishop," he muttered. "You're worrying your little girlfriend over there, and we have to get you back to the house." Granted, Kishuna himself wasn't that strong, but he could support the bishop; Rhys wasn't really very heavy. "Yeah, don't worry, Amelia. I've got him." Walking was easy. The morph hadn't gotten hurt, per se, and he was still cold, and besides, he needed the exercise. "Now, Rhys. You can at least walk a little, right? I mean, if you can't move at all, then we're kind of screwed until someone else gets here, or someone goes out and comes back."
PostPosted: Thu Apr 30, 2009 6:25 pm

Rhys nodded. He was feeling a little off, but the worst of it probably wouldn't arrive until they came back to the house. Besides, he wouldn't get better by lying around here. Leaning heavily on Kishuna, Rhys slowly walked back in the direction of FEFGA's, beginning to shake as chills ran through his body.

Her sleep, though uneasy at first, settled into a calm one. She dreamed of nothing at first, and then purple mist. A sense of calm pervaded, easing her stiff limbs. She saw Nils, smiling. And someone else, a face she couldn't quite make out, also smiling.

Her eyes opened. She muttered something unintelligible. Dazed, she looked over where Rei and Amelia had been fighting. Their fight was done now, and Rei seemed to be alright, though badly hurt. Had Amelia won then?

Then she saw Siegell. More importantly, she saw her brother.

"Nils!" she cried, relief evident in her voice.

Rising quickly, she staggered over to him, falling beside him, pulling him into her arms, whispering his name over and over again. He was safe. He was safe.

She turned to face Siegell, a hand wiping fresh tears away. "Thank you," she said sincerely, "for him. I can't thank you enough, Siegell." She smiled.

Siegell smiled and nodded. "Sure, I'll get Ninian and Nils," he murmured. "Shastah can carry the two of them with me, no problem." Shastah was large, even for a Wyvern Lord's mount. He had, after all, carried an entire tent stuffed with food like a sack! He glanced up as Ninian began to awaken, and he jogged over to kneel on the other side of Nils, reaching out gently to brush his fingers over the light bruise on the young-looking boy's forehead, then looked up as Ninian addressed him.

"It was the least I could do, Ninian. I just hope we can help him... I hope you don't mind, I used this to... well, distract him, I guess," he murmured, reaching into his cloak with one ungloved hand and pulling the locket out.

"You left it on the floor in my room the other night... I was gonna give it back, but didn't get a chance, and I walked out with it in the morning when I left." He had to remember to force a blush onto his face, but years of acting and imitating emotions to deceive and confuse made it easy.

Once he'd turned over the bracelet, the Wyvern Lord gently slid his hands under Nils' knees and back and lifted him up. "Come on, there's room for two on Shastah's saddle. You both need rest, I'll take you back."

Amelia smiled in relief as things seemed to slip back into a sense of normality, albeit a rather uneasy one. An unsettling sensation prickled the hairs on the nape of her neck as she went to the unconscious Rei, now that Ninian and Nils were being taken care of and Rhys was being helped by Kishuna. She knelt down, carefully lifted Rei, just as she had done before for him when he had demanded to see the Door. She made sure he was breathing before looking to Sue, smiling a little. "Let's get going," she told her before starting towards Fefga's. Each step reminded her that they had succeeded, and already her eyes felt heavy; Amelia would not stop until they returned, but she was more than ready to rest. She left Ninian and Nils to Siegell; he was a shifty one, and she never could tell if she would be able to trust him or not, but she knew he would get the siblings to Fefga's safely. That much she could trust, without hesitation.

Ninian stared at the locket when he pulled it out, silently accepting it from him. She'd almost forgotten about it, what with everything else that had happened. She slipped it around her neck while Siegell picked up Nils.

"Come on, there's room for two on Shastah's saddle," he told her. "You both need rest, I'll take you back."

The dancer nodded, rising shakily. She needed a hot bath and a good long sleep in a soft bed, and then she'd be alright physically. Mentally, she was tired, but happy. She followed Siegell over to Shastah, greeting the wyvern with a smile of gratitude.

Nils!

"Ngh..." The bard groaned softly. Nini... Ninian? He heard her voice, repeating his name over and over again, getting softer and softer (at least, to him it was). N-no... D-don't go... "Mhn..." His eyes fluttered open, tears in the corners of his eyes. Everything hurt, especially his shoulder, the one that Amelia had stabbed, and his head. His wounds were still bleeding, having not been healed yet. He was positive that there was a nice, purple bruise on his forehead, courtesy of Siegell. He felt completely out of energy after forcing himself to use Frosttongue after Frosttongue. He was just completely exhausted.

Yet, his own issues seemed to be unimportant and insignificant at the moment. He looked around, looking for his sister. When he finally spotted her, relief washed over Nils. She was alright. The tears flowed from his eyes and he began to sob. "Nini... Nini, thank goodness... I... I-I'm so sorry... Please..." His hands covered his face despite the painful protests from his shoulders. "... Please forgive me... please... forgive your weak brother..."
