L'thor grinned, pleased by Veyes' delight. He was so different now. So different. He seemed an utterly separate person from the boy L'thor had met... well, it felt like half a lifetime ago now. The miserable day was long behind him, the only lingering evidence of it being a slight pain in his ribs when he and Raith went between. Amazing how much could change in such a short space of time.

"Sounds like a plan," L'thor agreed with a nod. "Now than, fancy going a little faster?" No fancy tricks today, it was so hard to move right with a dragon that was not your own, but going fast ought to be alright on Veyes. Wasn't like the straps were weak, and he didn't lack things to hold onto to make himself feel secure either.

"Going fast sounds like fun," Raith said to her rider with a mental grin. "This pretty flight is all very well, but I'd like to test my wings!"

Veyes' broad grin was answer enough but still he called out, "YES! Let's go Faster!" His hands gripped tighter at L'thor's waist as he leaned in close preparing for the future speed. He really couldn't top smiling as they flew.

He tucks his fack up against Lthor's back letting his cheek sink in against the jacket eager to see how fast Raith can go! Inside, he was having trouble containing his excitement!

L'thor lent down over his dragon's neck, noting with a grin that he didn't need to tell Veyes to lean with him. "Here we go then!" he called, and Raith bugled along with him. The green gave a few slow, strong beats off her wings and then... Well, then they were off. Had they not been wearing goggles, the wind of their speed would have blinded the dragon's passengers. Below them the blue ocean, and the black sand of the beach off to the right blurred. This was what green were made for; speed and grace embodied, Raith shot onward like a comet.

L'thor laughed, but the sound of it was torn away by the wind before his ears could hear it. Yes. This was what it was to be truly alive. Leaning as flat over his dragon as her neck ridges would allow, he let go of himself a little and sank into a deeper connection with the glorious green. Their wings strained, their hearts near burst with the joy and elation of their speed, the health and their bond. They turned a little, racing over land now, the forest below was just a smear of dark green. This was perfect. They were perfect but of course - man and dragon grinned - they'd already known that.

Veyes clung to L'thor but soon his body got used to the speed and he couldn't help but laugh with the joyous feeling he felt within. As the wind whipped through his hair, he peeked from side to side to see the vivid landscape flowing by in blues, greens and browns. This was everything he had imagined it would be with the except that this dragon was not his own...it left him imagining that day when the moment would be his own and he'd feel that connection which L'thor felt with Raith.

But no matter, this moment was unlike any other that he could describe even as his imagination strove to meet the challenge. Each wing beat...every noise all embedding in his brain so his dreams could reproduce with high definition the wonders of speed. Eventually, he would have a special friend; it had to happen...some day. This flight made his hopes soar higher and he had to cling desperately to the thought that he couldn't just let it overwhelm him. It may not be any time soon. It could be years. He had to be patience.

Tears were pulled from his eyes by the strength of the wind and he smiled against L'thor's jacket. This was the world he wished to be in.

He couldn't have said how long they flew for; time slipped away from him when he was this closely wound with Raith. Eventually however, they slowed; she was spent from her dead sprint. Coming back to himself, L'thor sat up as they slowed and a shiver ran through himself as he became aware of his own body again. "We're going back to the Weyr now," he told Veyes as Raith turned to soar gently back towards the dead volcano. "How was that then, eh?" he added with a chuckle. "No dragon like a green for speeds like that." His Raith was special of course, far better than the other greens, better than all other dragons.

"You have lessons or more chores soon?" he thought to ask. "We can drop you down in the bowl if that's more convenient than coming back up to my weyr."

Veyes didn't want the flight to end. He could have stayed up there all day, however, L'thor was right....he did have lesson. "I have Lessons soon so yeah...I have to get back." The lessons were more important than the chores at least to him. Most chores he had been given were things he already knew but the lessons were always new. "I guess dropping me off in the bowl closest to the Candidates Classrooms if possible."

He paused for a moment then gave L'thor a big warm hug, "Thank you, L'thor! I had a great time. Oh...and thank Raith too! That was the so much fun!!!"

L'thor laughed, and unable to return the gesture he clasped one of Veyes' hands. "I'm glad!" he said as they swooped into the bowl of the Weyr and circled towards the ground. "We had a wonderful time too." Both for the experience itself, and for the pleasure of making a friend happy. Yes. Today was shaping up to be a wonderful day, even if he did have watch duty to attend to later on.

"Here we are then," L'tor said as the touched down and Raith lowered herself to allow Veyes to dismount. "Pass that jacket and the goggles up," the rider added with a grin, "I'll keep them ready for you for next time." He was in no doubt whatsoever that this would become a regular activity. Humm. Would his jacket fit Nehren should the youth wish to take a flight with him? Well, at worst it would be a little large, he supposed.

Veyes slide off Raith's arm and stood all smiles upon his face. He carefully pulled off the goggles and jacket handing them one by one to L'thor. "Thank you for taking me out today. I had a marvelous time. I hope...we can do it again some day!" He couldn't' wait to have is own goggles....jacket....and pants beyond the sheer notion of having a dragon. Yes, leather pants would have been really nice because his legs were quite cold after the high speed journey but he wouldn't complain at all! He'd do it all over again if given half the chance.

"Well, I better run off to the classroom so I am not late. I'd rather not have the Candidate Master noticing me too much." he said with a broad grin still sticking to his lips. He turned and scampered into the Weyr and ran to class as fast as he could. Fortunately, he arrived well before others and was able to make it to his spot with plenty of time to dream about dragons and high speed journeys.

L'thor grinned and accepted the borrowed gear back. "No problem Veyes, and I'm sure we'll both find time for another flight sometime soon!" He hoped so. Even if Veyes Impressed in this clutch, it would be more than a turn before he could fly on his own dragon. For the time being, it looked as though he and Raith would be the youth's only link to the sky. Well, unless he befriended another rider, of course.

"See you soon Veyes," L'thor said with a smile, "and good luck with the lessons!" As the young candidate hurried away, Raith jumped back into the air and soared towards her ledge. Once they alighted and shed their flying gear L'thor sighed. Bored now. Lacking anything better to do with his time, he set some klah to brew for when V'kain returned and went to have a bath.
