I thought the AmQuel had to get swished around and stuff in the water.
My dad said that the water heater actually needs to be fixed so I don't know if that will effect the water.
STUPID PET STORE PEOPLE! D;< I'll have to buy something on the internet. sweatdrop I hate doing that. Searching now.
I don't wanna but a dang reverse osmosis thing. sad

Do you have a link to the product you use? Or the name so I can look it up?

calm down now >_<
you dont NEED the reverse osmosis thing...only if you wanna keep coral and i know thats not what you are doing
finding a water softener isnt terribly hard just go into the store and read labels. it can come in liquid form or powder form. usually things that have to do with making your tank black water will lower your hardness (they will also lower PH...i use something for black water but you may just want to find a softener)

I was still talking about the powder/liquid. I guess I didn't make that clear. razz
If my pet store had it wouldn't they have recommended it instead of the AmQuel crap though?
It's fixable though, right? I'm like a flippin' spazz right now trying to figure out what to do before my fish all DIE.
*tries to calm down* sweatdrop cry

doesnt matter which you use (liquid powder) as long as it says it does what its supposed to and people at pet shops are NOT as useful as you would think. MOST of the time they just want to sell you whatever crap thy can or if it looks good they will try to sell you it...dont ask them for help anymore sweatdrop
and if your fish die...well...you live and you learn...it sucks but its your first tank and even if you are on your 50th tank it will always be a learning process

I got a pillow to put in the filter with some ion things in it. It's supposed to lower hardness but I'm out of test strips so I can't tell.
The lady that showed me had a 90g reef, a 75g reef, a 40g reef, and a 14g cube tank of seahorses. (all saltwater) I thought she was weird. ;3

She talked about all this random stuff like my pH and crap when I didn't even mention it. She like "this'll fix your pH problem." when I told her my hardness was the problem. Then she tried to tell me that hardness comes from overfeeding. Yeah, I got 180 general hardness from "overfeeding". She didn't understand that my tap water was the problem. Maybe I didn't explain it very well....anyway, it was weird.
