"So, we poison the pot, the guards that were on duty before have to do a double shift. But not anything lethal, just make us miserable." Ross says. "Who to put on guard duty? Not me, or something might be suspceted. Rath, Llyod, Linus, Olswin.... Hmm...." He takes out the unit roster from a desk drawer. He didn't remember all of the men under his command. "I'll have to make sure some of the new men get out of the job." Ross was muttering to himself, having forgoten about Cedric for the moment.

Cedric pat his shoulder. "I'll make sure you're one of the miserable ones," he said light heartedly, not wanting to get Ross in trouble but also finding it funny. "I was thinking some of that plant I told you about that puts people to sleep, but an upset stomach wouldn't hurt either."

"Huh?" Ross says, looking up. "Accuatlyl, I have the right sort of plant. Its a seed. It is common enough around here, that we use them for makeshift markers. They are small brown seeds. I've got some in my bag here. You have about five of them, they make you very sick for about a day. Found that out the hard day one day when one of my men made a soup with them. We we sick for a week, but couldn't do anything for a day."

Cedric laughed. If he'd been somewhat incoherant, it was just because he was so excited. "I told her I'd tell you. She knows I'm here," he added as an after thought. "I can't stay too long."
Cedric pounced on Ross with a rare hug. Not the kind that makes you question if the man is attracted to the opposite sex, but the kind that makes you glad he let go if you happen to be in need of oxygen to survive. "I can't believe it worked. I can't believe she buys that I'm content to be her property. That whomever I suggest to guard us on our way must be trustworthy... Is she that ******** stupid?" A rhetorical question. Marean was actually very smart.
"Don't get yourself in trouble over me," he warned.

Ross was caucht completely off guard by the hug, but didn't push Cedric away even during the hug. He realized that it was something the man had to do. "You better get going. I won't get in trouble. No one will even know about the poisoning, since I'm in charge of the unit. And you stay out of trouble yourself." He opens the door for Cedric to leave through, thinking. How many of the seeds would he need to not over dose it? It was going to be tricky and he would have to just guess to not make everyone completely sick.

Oh! Totally time for the escape!
---------------------------------------------- There wasn't much time or opportunity to plan together after that. There was a whirlwind of activity as the few servants she was taking, as well as the guards Ross was to take, got ready and took off. The whole trip was on short notice, although not badly planned. A carriage was ready for them in the morning, nothing seemed particularly out of place except perhaps the timing of it all.
Ross was probably busy keeping his soldiers in order ahead of and around the carriage as they passed out of the land Marean owned and into something more like wilderness. Cedric and one or two other slaves remained mostly in the carriage, but occassionally would come out to walk along side it.

Ross showed up to the "co-commander". It would never be "co-commanding" since the female officer would take the credit for good things, and the bad. So it was kind of nice, but it also had some set backs. Ross was taking twelve men from his unit and the female Captian was taking twelve of her men. He hadn't met this Captian, her name was Myste, before. He had heard some good reports about her though and was looking forward to working with her.
After the meting with Captian, Ross was looking forward to the escape. He worked it out where they would split watches, His men had first, her's second, and they split the last one. Eight man watches, it would be perfect. There were another always semi fresh troops for every watch.
He had packed the night before, leaving the paper work mostly done. Armor and weapons, clothing and the seeds. He found his unit and lead them over to the meeting ground. His unit was early, so they waited for the rest of the caravan would come.

Myste wasn't mean to him, just apprehensive. It was threatening to have a man share a position with her, even if he did defer to her anyway. She did, at least, agree to his suggestions about the watch. Things went smoothly from there, as far as the trip was concerned. If there were wild animals, they stayed away for now.
When they stopped for the night, they made sure to have a fire going to keep the animals back, and for warmth. The carriage was partially dismantled to turn it into more of a sleeping place for Marean, and the slaves had a bit more freedom to talk as they did camp chores such as cooking and cleaning.

Ross made sure that his men were ready for the watch. He trusted his men more then hers, obviously. They were ready, and he was ready to start his phase of the plan. He didn't know who was incharge of cooking, but he intended to find out. And, if Cedric was in charge, all the better. The camp was rather small, since eight men could only watch a few places at once, but still large enough for everyone to get around without killing each other.

(sorry for the wait!)
Between Cedric and Ross' knowledge of local plants, they cooked up a drug that made people ill and sleepy. The food was not hard to get to even though Cedric was not the one in charge of it. The pot did not need to be watched every minute it was heating up, and it wasn't. Later, even the most trained of guards couldn't hold up his resolve to stay awake for the watch, and the dizzy nauseous feeling kept the men from notifying any one of their condition in time. The guards for that night always got a double portion of the meal and drink if they needed it, so many of them were konked out on the fringes of the camp before any one else.
Those on the inside of the camp felt lighter affects. They blamed it on the food immediately, but assumed that bad meat had something to do with it. Nobody realized yet that the guards were incompacitated, since the affects they felt were mostly uncomfortable, the drowsiness subtle, and most of the camp in tents that hid the guards from view. In short, no one thought it was strange when Cedric got up to go to the bathroom, and they assumed that a guard would watch him.
By the time he should have come back, the whole camp was asleep. Most people wouldn't wake up until much later the next morning, and even then the confusion might hide Cedric's disappearance a while longer, not to mention making chase nigh impossible for the camp. It seemed he might be home free.
(Yes? Home free?)
