Christopher, too, attempted to will himself to his feet with all he had in his body. When that failed him, he tried to dig deeper, into his heart and soul. He couldn't raise up, but he found himself able to turn to face Travis on the ground. One look at the other man, the one who had given such a performance, the match of his life. He had been in Triple Cage matches that were less draining. But that was some time ago, and this was now.

With one final attempt, he had rolled to the corner and slowly dragged himself to a seated position, before taking a short break. After catching his breath he tried to pull himself up to his feet in the corner. The first time, he failed and fell back down, but the second time, with the aid of the ropes, he was able to stand. He could feel the end coming. He didn't know how it would end, but he knew the end was approaching.

Travis was satisfied to see Cross managing to get to his feet. This was also helpful in motivating himself to get to his own feet. Although he too needed the aid of the ropes, he managed to slowly pull himself up to his feet. After what seemed like forever, Travis leaned into the ropes, and eyeballed Cross from across the ring. After a couple moments he pushed his body off of the ropes, his legs wobbling about like wet noodles.

Cross only had one shot at this, and he knew that. He would have to put every last bit of energy and willpower into this final shot at glory. With all his might, he charged at Travis and attempted a double-knee facebuster. It wasn't his usual finish, but in the current situation, it would be damn effective. If he was successful, he would drag his body over for the pin. If not, then he had no clue what would happen. Most likely, defeat.

((Codebreaker. I'm sure you knew what I meant when I said Double knee facebuster, but still. Always safer to clarify at first, then to have to do so later.))

The tension in the arena was higher than The Inquisition. It was obvious to all who were present that the next few seconds could be the end of the match. As Cross began to charge Travis, Travis began to do the same. Like two bulls, the men collided in the ring... It would be Christopher Cross who would come out on top, however, as Travis' head bounced off of his opponents knees. The whole scenario seemed to play out in slow-motion to the crowd. Travis could only hear his breathing and heartbeat, so exhausted that the crowd was drowned out by his survival instincts. He lay flat on his back on the mat as the ref came down for the count.

1... The fans shouted the number as the ref's hand met the mat.

2... Everyone in the arena was on their feet, it was do or die time for Travis. But could he do it?

3!!!!

Christopher Cross' music kicked in through the arena as all the fans in the audience erupted into ballistic cheers and chants. They weren't only cheering the winner, they had just witnessed something special. Travis' feelings were mixed as he lay there, staring up at the lights, which were fading in and out of a blurred haze. A small part of him felt disappointed in this loss, another felt relief that it was over. But mainly, he felt accomplished. At the beginning of the match both Superstars had pledged their alliance to giving the fans what they deserved, and that was exactly what they had accomplished tonight. Travis cracked a small smile, and didn't bother getting up just yet. He thought it might be better to lay there for a moment and let his body release some endorphins before he tried to move.

(( I wouldn't have felt justified in having the win after all my inactivity at the beginning of the match. One thing's for certain though, this was definitely one of my favorites, it was great! I'm looking forward to some more RPing with you in the future. 3nodding ))

((I am defintely looking forward to the same. I was actually just talking about how much I enjoyed working with you to Cartwright. I think we really did something great here. It was, in all honesty, my all time favorite match. And I'm sure the next time we hook up, we're gonna blow the figurative roof off the digital building.))

As the ref brought his hand down the third time, Christopher couldn't believe it. He had given it his all, and if he had lost, he would find no shame in that. He brough himself up to his knees slowly and looked out to the crowd through grateful eyes. He was just happy to put on a show for those fans, and he couldn't have asked for a better person to accomplish that feat with, than Travis.

He finally got to his feet, and noticed that Travis hadn't gotten up. In a show of tremendous respect for the fellow athlete, he walked over and offered the man a hand up. The fans once again awaited the outcome of the situation, as they had all match. They knew that they would go home with an extraordinary tale to tell, which would be made all the better with this show of respect. Behind the smudge and wiped-away face paint, Cross couldn't keep his smile from showing through. Not even the fact that his lungs were working overtime could hide his emotions. It may not have been for a championship, but he felt as if it had been.

Travis looked over at Cross, feeling a little more energized after laying down for a little bit. He didn't hesitate for a moment in taking his hand and getting up. It was true that this match hadn't been for a title, or even a part of the title tournament. Even though he lost, Travis felt like there was no greater glory in this business than standing in the ring with a very worthy adversary and having every fan in the arena on their feet cheering their hearts out. Travis kept a hold of Cross' hand as he got to his feet, and proceeded to raise it high above his head.

(( Well keep an eye on your inbox. When the time comes that I don't currently have any feuds going, I may just send you a PM. wink ))

((I shall do just that. mrgreen ))

Cross couldn't think of a better way to end this truly awesome moment, than to have Travis standing in the ring with him and raising his arm. A true show of comraderie. The fans made this a night for him to remember, as they had made it a night the fans would never forget.

Travis was proud to be a part of this match, regardless of the "loss." To him, it felt like a win. The fans were on their feet, so his job had been done. The smile on his face showed just that, as he turned to face the man that had taken him to the limit. "Congratulations, Chris. It was a hell of a time." And with that he patted the man on the back and released his arm, then dropped down to the ground and rolled out of the ring. He walked backwards up the ramp, his head held high. This man had given Travis an accurate measure at just what he was capable of, and he was looking forward to their next encounter.

Christopher Cross couldn't help but clap as Travis left the ring, after that amazing match and the congratulations from the man. He knew he didn't deserve sole credit, with any other opponent, that match wouldn't have been what it was. It was truly one of a kind. He looked forward to topping it with their next encounter. After standing in the ring for another minute or so, soaking up the fans applause and cheers, climbing up on the turnbuckles and looking out at the masses, he too left the ring, under the bottom rope. As he walked up the ramp, he made sure to slap the hands of the fans who reached out towards him, before disappearing backstage.
