[Exit from Tomoko's Shack]

The distinctive salt of mid winter hit his nostrils way before the sight of crushing waves crashed against the cliff side. Shinichi wandered over to the edge, looking down at the rocky crags impassionately. He was at a dizzying height and the Kage had to take a step backwards before the blood rush to his head made him pass out. The man's foot kicked over a rock as it landed into place and the pebble went soaring over the cliff. Shinichi counted a good 15 seconds before he heard the tiny plink, plink at the bottom as the rock broke apart when it struck the spiked rocks beneath. Those crags were rounded from constant beatings by the relentless ocean, but could impale a falling man just as easily as a sharpened knife slits a child's throat. Red dots danced in front of his vision. Shinichi touched his nose to make sure no blood was coming out, for he could smell the acrid odor as readily as if Dhan were still slung over his shoulder. The blood mixed with sea salt burned the sensitive hairs inside his nose, causing the man's vision to blur. He could scarcely feel the solid ground beneath him. Shinichi blinked rapidly, but all he could see was the sea with its deadly fangs rushing up to him, so fast, so out of his control. The wind drew his skin backwards, wanting to expose the tender muscle underneath for its own sick pleasure. His eyes quickly became dry, whatever moisture ripped away by the unforgiving winds. Breathing became impossible as his lungs filled with an inexplicable dread. He could hear nothing but the roaring sea, see nothing but those crags rushing up so fast. It was too late to close his eyes.

Shinichi's hands gripped the edge of the cliff as he vomited into the abyss. Panting, he forced himself to lean away from the lip and collapsed onto his back, trembling. The smell of throw up was everywhere, mixed with that constant blood and ever present salt. The man felt his throat closing up and pushed himself to his knees to spit away the leftovers. Someone was pounding on his brain. The roar drowned out every other noise and sensation. He felt like his head was going to burst like a squeezed water balloon. Black liquid would spill out and the demons that haunted him would go on to terrorize the village. Shinichi tossed off his cloak, which had become wet from the sea spray, and then opened up his kimono, undoing the bandages that hid his scar from the world. A deep, discolored stab wound at the right, cratered and always aching, revealed itself to his touch. His fingers moved left, tracing the shallow, reddened cut. Shinichi took a deep breath, the motion straining against the barriers of the barely healed injury. He could remember the wordless screams that came out of his mouth, followed by the drowning sense that he had failed, both in his duty and then in trying to make up for the misdeed.

Just a failure. Shinichi winced as the light of the setting sun emerged from a dark cloud and touched the horizon. He sat there, open kimono billowing in the wind, as the bright red orb descended into darkness.

"What the hell do you think you're doing!? I've been looking all over for your sorry butt!" a voice with so much sounding authority cut in through the darkness as a firm pale hand grabbed onto the soldier of the vulnerable man in the kimono. "Its evening now, isn't it?" the woman's voice said with a very snobbish tone, since it was rather obvious with the setting sun on the horizon. "The Kage should be at the Rice Farm to appreciate the dinner that's going to be laid out for him and this village," Yuki said as her grip tightened on the man's shoulder to try and get him to stand up. There was a very stern look on her face, which any student from the academy could recognize that it meant they were in trouble. "You look like crap," Yuki said, trying to get him to stand, so that she may tidy up his kimono. "Don't disgrace Ichi by making a mess of yourself," Tenmoki nagged at him as she tried to fix up his hair as she did this, she knew she was talking to an empty shell, so she would continue with her nagging and pestering. "You need a hair cut and you need to trim up your whiskers!" she shouted at him while trying to comb out his chin hair with her long nails. She stopped for a moment to stare at him with those stern emerald eyes.

"You know I don't like you. I know you don't like me. I'm here for Shimagakure and now that you're its heart and soul, you better start liking me, because I'm going to be the one by your side making sure you get through this, you hear?
" Yuki said as she put both hands on the man's shoulders. "Now, I've heard of all the things you've done thus far. Killing the Meho being one of them," Yuki said with a tilt of her head, as if it were a silent gesture that the single act of taking out warlord would weigh heavily on them in the future. "But now I'm here to be glued to your side, so there will be no more brash actions that will cause Shimagakure harm," Yuki said as she stepped back and put her hands on her hips to size Shinichi up. With his kimono in place, his hair tidied up and his whiskers in order, Yuki felt much better about his appearance. "Now lets go. You need to eat," the woman said, turning and offering an arm to the man that was over a foot taller than her.

"Leave me alone, witch," Shinichi muttered, though barely loud enough for himself to hear the brash words, much less the naggy woman that made even the tough Hammah break a sweat. Nevertheless, by the way Yuki's hands grasped his shoulders, Shinichi guessed that she had heard him, but didn't give a damn what he thought, as usual. The broken man stared blankly at the Tenmoki as she too looked back at him with those intense eyes, exactly a shade lighter than his own. "Disgrace Ichi?" Shinichi echoed, clenching his eyes to make the blurred vision disappear. When Yuki went on about his ragged hair, about him not having shaven in a month... or two, Shinichi barked a mocking laugh, directed more at himself than her, though. "Woman, I'm disgracing Ichi by staying in Shimagakure. A supposed Kage that can't even get one of his subordinates to listen to him, much less command the respect Ichi had. Half the village wants me dead and the other half prefers that I be tortured first. Tomoko's taken to calling me 'Hated One.' A fitting nickname, isn't it?" Shinichi blew one of the many locks of hair that had settled over his eyes away as he delivered the bitterly sarcastic rant. He squirmed away from her fingernails as they scratched up his rugged beard, but not before Yuki had done her job.

Shinichi's dead eyes stayed on Yuki when she grabbed his shoulders with both hands, ensuring that he didn't give her the slip and just run away from the lecture. He started to protest when she claimed that he was the village's heart and soul, but as Yuki went right onto talking about the harm that would come from killing off Dhan, the ANBU stayed silent. She was willingly offering... well, commanding him that she'd be by his side? Yuki would never leave him alone and always be a conscious that he'd have to obey or risk destroying their home from the inside out. Shinichi wasn't sure what to make of the woman's declaration. "Why the hell...?" he snarled, turning away from Yuki to toss the handful of bandages over the cliff. "You of all people. Why are you doing all this for me? We both know Ichi was blinded by love when he chose me to be his successor. It should have been you. You're just like him: good with people, well-liked, intelligent. Sane." He pressed a rough palm against his forehead, wondering how much more he should tell the woman about his hallucinations.
PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 4:16 am

Yuki raised her eyebrow as if she were questioning whether or not Shinichi was an idiot. "You killed her only remaining blood. Why wouldn't she hate you? The least you need to worry about it whether or not people like you, but your plan of action to protect them after killing off a savage warlord, who's army will be knocking down our fences on the shoreline the moment their hear about their beloved warlord's death," Yuki said, her hands on her hips while she jutted her face in and out at Shinichi. "And yes, its very fitting," the Tenmoki woman said as she slit her eyes at Shinichi almost sarcastically. She kept her stern coolness as Shinichi turned towards the cliffs and threw his bandages out in anger. As he continued to go on, Yuki could not take the insult that Shinichi through at their former Kage. With a firm grip and an open hand, Yuki slapped Shinichi right across the face. "Blinded by love!? You're not only disgracing what he created but now you are insulting his decisions!?" the woman yelled out at him, knowing very well that Shinichi had been his choice to success as Kage well before their affair had began. Yuki had been rather bitter taking the news that Ichi had delivered, but the Kage's reasons had been clear as day to her.

"Me? I'm a mother, Shinichi. I've been bred to care and that's the only reason people like me," Yuki started off, knowing what Ichi had said to her wouldn't come out a smoothly from her mouth. "Plain and simple, I can't take the road of failure. I lost Sachiriku, Shinichi. Look where it sent me?" Yuki pointed out, knowing that Shinichi had heard of her sudden depression that had sentenced her to her home and even tore her child away from her since she was in no condition to care for little Ayumi. "You lost Ichi. Look where it sent you!" she shouted, her voice beginning to raise in anger. "We both were hit with the same pain! You were able to continue going, leading, interacting with the people of this village, while I remained locked up in my own sorrow. I may be more intelligent, but you can handle the burdens of a Kage just like Ichi could! I can't!" Yuki continued to yell, only hoping that those loud words would get through Shinichi's thick skull. It pained her to say that she was not fit to do something, but Shinichi needed to hear it... Even if it made her feel rotten as hell.

"Now... Ichi was more charismatic than you, but he lacked the paranoia to keep the village safe like you do. If it had been up to you, I'm sure you wouldn't have let the Orochi's live in this village for as long as they did and we wouldn't have had that war against them that made us lose our loved ones. And I know for a fact, you wouldn't have let Meho Dhan live a day on this island. If I had been present, the situation would've been taken care of differently, yes. I will advise you every step of the way, Shinichi and you WILL take into consideration my words," she said, letting the silence fall over them for a moment, before continuing. She calmed herself down, since tears were starting to well in her eyes from being so upset. The recent birth out of depression was still making her mentality feel rather weak, but she still had the sounding voice! "If we're done moping, whining and nit-picking about the past, I'd like it if we could put our minds towards the future and prepare for it before its dropped on us like a bomb," the woman stated as she turned her body towards the path that led them away from the cliffs and back to the village, where they would gather everyone for the dinner.

Questions were swirling in Shinichi's head as he listened to Yuki speak. "Wait, Tomoko is related to that monster?" he asked, clutching the side of his head. It couldn't begin to imagine that the fun-loving Tomoko could bear any resemblance to the fun-loving-in-a-'Silence,-I-kill-you!' manner Dhan the Destroyer. Shinichi shook his head, partially to ward such unpleasant thoughts out of his head (like what a nightmare the parents must have had) and partially to refute Yuki's next claim. "Nobody in the village would be idiotic enough to spread the word," he argued, "And why didn't they just attack us befo- OW!" Shinichi recoiled from the slap, holding his burning face. "Damn it!" he yelled, wincing as the slap stung worse than some of the injuries he received as a soldier. Why the hell did a weak woman's strike hurt so much? Perhaps it was the next words that spewed out of her mouth, poison syllables that accused him of insubordination. Shinichi narrowed his eyes at Yuki. He didn't understand her blind loyalty to Ichi, someone who had made mistakes beforehand. He'd been let down too many times by those he thought were flawless to ever assume the position of unquestioning underling. But then again, had Yuki been the one to insult Ichi like he did, no doubt she would be flying off the cliff.

The man bowed his head as Yuki grew emotional, not sure he wanted to explore his own feelings at the moment. When she admitted that he had done something she could not, Shinichi raised his eyes, speechless. It must have taken a great deal of strength for her to say those words and for what? To save him so that she'd have to work by his side, constantly reminded that Ichi had chosen him and not her? Her love for the village astonished him and those sheer emotions hit the man like a brick. The Kage stood still for a moment as Yuki turned away from him and started towards the village. He would heed Yuki's advice. He would treat her like an actual human being for once. He was the Kage and yet at this moment, his love for Shimagakure had been weak enough to nearly make him commit the unspeakable, while her dedication changed everything. There was nothing he could say. Well, nothing except...

"Thank you," Shinichi said, taking a new look at Yuki. He locked his hands behind his back and followed her towards the village, his long legs soon bringing him by her side. "I'm sure a few guests are already present at the dinner. I have to clean myself up and round up all those rogues. I trust you'll be able to take care of things until I get to the farms?" the Kage asked with a nod.

"You're welcome," Yuki replied to Shinichi as if she didn't want to say it, but it came out anyways as she continued her walk down the path as Shinichi came by her side. A small smile spread across her soft pink lips as Shinichi stepped into character and gave her a nod. "Of course, Kage-sama," she said, her lips cracking to give him a whimsical smile as they turned down their separate paths once they hit the village. Yuki knew that Ichi hadn't been given enough time to properly prepare Shinichi for such a heavy role, so the Tenmoki woman was well prepared to whip him into shape as if he were becoming the father of her children; The Kage of Shimagakure.

Sukotto reached his favorite training spot fairly quickly after having left the Uchiha estate, as he was quite eager to begin the next stage of his training. His task required the use of water, so he made his way to the bottom of the cliffs, where the water usually smashed against the rock wall. On this cool winter night however, the chilled liquid merely lapped up against the stony surface. The genin lightly stepped onto the surface of the water as if it were glass that could easily be broken if one pressed their feet too firmly against it. Of course, he couldn't possibly "break" the water with his feet, but the Uchiha did quite enjoy the stillness of the water and wanted to keep it peaceful until he began his jutsu training. After finding an especially calm location that would allow him to observe the movements of the water that were actually caused by his chakra, Sukotto took a comfortable and focused stance, relaxed every muscle in his body, and then began to move a larger amount of chakra into his feet.

Unfortunately, the water beneath the Uchiha's feet failed to do anything as he allowed more chakra to flow into his legs. He knew that if he pressed it down too far, it would disrupt the flow that was keeping him above the water, causing him to plunge down into the chilly depths. If he happened to become too wet, Sukotto would simply have to allow himself to dry. Normally, he'd continue to train whether he was comfortable or not, but since he needed to control his chakra and observe it at the same time, he needed to focus all of his attention on the exercise and simply couldn't afford to allow discomfort to disrupt that focus. Instead of taking a risk, the Uchiha simply decided to dump a little more chakra into his legs, hoping that having a little more to work with would allow him to find a way to move the water beneath him. Eventually, he'd need to figure out how to minimize the amount that he needed to create the flare, but that would occur in a later training session.

Increasing the level of chakra within his legs was ineffective, so Sukotto decided that he would simply have to begin taking some risks if he hoped to make any progress. He closed his eyes and tried to keep his mind clear of the thoughts about cold and piercing water that would surround his body if he failed. The Uchiha slowly began to allow the extra chakra to dip down to his feet. While he figured that he was headed in the right direction, he could easily tell that he was being far too cautious with the process and that at the rate that he was proceeding at, he'd learn nothing about the chakra flare. He began to wonder if the former Kage had done training that was similar to the kind that he was attempting. Sukotto figured that even if he hadn't, Ichi would have many tips to offer help to him. At this thought, the Uchiha shook his head madly and tightened his squinted eyes. Ichi was gone, he simply had to accept that. Sukotto knew that he had created his very own taijutsu form without any help from Ichi besides what the man had already taught him.

With thoughts of his foster uncle firing him up, Sukotto made a hasty decision and simply allowed the chakra in his legs to drop to his feet to attempt to catch it at the last moment and cause the water beneath him to shake, stir, or perform some other kind of movement. Unfortunately, as soon as the extra chakra connected with the chakra that had been keeping him afloat, it immediately caused him to fall into the water, completely drenching the shinobi in icy liquid. He quickly swam back to shore before the cold water caused his muscles to slow down to the point that would force him to give up his training for the night. Sukotto was quite frustrated at first, but knew deep down that he was attempting a kind of training that most other shinobi at his level wouldn't dare try to complete without instruction from a higher ranking ninja. He stared out at the ripple in the water that had resonated from his body and began to think of alternative means that he could use to complete what he had set out to do.

As the Uchiha sat on a rock and began to heat himself with a bit of warmed chakra inside of his body that was easy to produce because of his affinity with fire, he fantasied about the inventors of various jutsu. To Sukotto, it was a wonder that shinobi were able to create jutsu such as the Body Replacement technique, Bunshin technique, or more complicated jutsu like the Juuken of the Hyuuga. He figured that techniques such as these were created by many shinobi rather than just one, since they obviously didn't have the advantage of referring to ancient techniques, like he had when creating his own jutsu. To imagine the first Juuken fight or the first successful use of the Body Replacement technique against an opponent was something that the Uchiha wished to see. He questioned whether they were originally intended for good, evil, or neutral purposes, and figured that it was best that the shinobi didn't know, since it could make things even more chaotic than they already had become.

Sukotto's Training Theme

After having allowed himself to warm up and dry off, Sukotto made his way back out to the position that he had chosen above the water. He would allow his chakra to sink low again, but he would focus on bringing it down slowly, instead of dropping it as he had done when he had fell into the water. He figured that when he managed to get to the point just before the extra chakra connected with the chakra that held him above the water, he'd have the best opportunity to study the properties regarding how they reacted to one another. If he managed to figure out what caused them to disrupt each other, he'd be able to figure out a way to prepare one or both of the sources for each other so that they wouldn't fizzle out on contact as they had done before. This time, as they neared each other, Sukotto really concentrated on what each of the chakra sources did to each other. He managed to learn a bit about why they didn't seem to work together before and made a few mental notes that would definitely help him to progress through the training.

Since he had taken a few mental notes about the chakra flare, Sukotto felt as if he were a lot more prepared to discover how to create a successful one. He continued to hold his hands tightly in the form of the bird seal, heavily focusing the chakra near his feet, but also realizing that he would need to be able to continue to concentrate on complex combat situations. If he were in a battle, the genin wouldn't be able to completely focus on putting his chakra exactly where it needed to be, so he knew that he would have to continue to train to discover how it felt to have the chakra in the correct location. After this, he would be able to activate the enhanced taijutsu even more quickly than most other jutsu, since it would really only require either one hand seal, or no hand seals at all, since it would be similar to walking up a tree or on top of water, and neither of those tasks required a ninja to form any complex arrangement of seals to correctly focus their chakra.

Unfortunately, Sukotto made his usual mistake and began thinking about matters that were neither there or anywhere else. He kept imagining the future of this experimental jutsu and continued to worry about whether it would even work or not. He realized that it would take a great deal of time to develop, years even, but that didn't dampen his spirits and he intended on sticking to the training and studying of his body until he was completely sure about the possibility of the jutsu. For the time being, he knew that he needed to focus, but that was nearly impossible for the ever-eager shinobi. He was constantly making up training other sorts of plans for his future and almost always thought ahead of himself instead of the moment that he was in at any given time. He was smart enough to realize that this could pose a danger for anyone he became involved with, friend or otherwise, and so he realized that it would be something that he would have to work towards improving about himself.

Before long, Sukotto began to feel himself sink into the depths of the water. It was only a few centimeters of water that actually cleared the bottoms of his feet, but it was enough to crack a smile on his face. He knew that his wandering thoughts were the reason for his repeated failures to move forward with the progress of his jutsu, but his mind simply couldn't be contained and he knew that he'd have to work around it. He soon managed to lift himself back above the water, but felt his legs buckle a little - it was quite obvious that he'd soon fall back into the depths of the cold water if he didn't focus more heavily on the task at hand. Falling into the water was a big waste of time in the eyes of the genin, but it also provided incentive for him to remain focused on his training. The threat of falling into the water and becoming cold and wet wasn't really what made the Uchiha not want to experience it. Again, this "waste of time" factor was what made him opposed to getting soaked.
