Gone so soon? The angel and spirit-seer weren't good friends, but Verdi found her fascinating. Quickly making her own bow, careful in her heels, she watched MaryAnne walk away.

"Oh, thankyou. Yeah, I know I was a tad late, but you know...distractions here and there." She gave into laughter that hung awkwardly after subsiding in the air along with MaryAnne's parting suggestion. Verdi and Gerald were friends in a way, but Gerald seemed to draw lines at certain topics and Verdi would never press it. It was still a miraculous thing to her that she had managed to keep a friend of sorts around.

"Did I miss anything exciting here?" Curiosity, an easy fallback.

"Not that I could see..." Oh, the usual, he added to himself, fallen angels and fairies waltzing about, angels chatting me up for no apparent reason...

His eyes were in constant motion, keeping track of the crowd. Fern and her mysterious escort were still out on the dance floor, he noted. Scanning the new arrivals, the young man also noticed another familiar face, Scarlett, in a vibrant pink dress.

"Bit early for dinner," he observed, despite the increasing number of students lining up at the buffet. "Want to walk?"

He was interested to hear about anything Verdi had run into as of late. She hadn't sought him out lately, and Gerald couldn't decide if she was busy with her classes or something more supernatural in nature. That topic, he figured, would be safer to discuss out on the edges of the crowd.

Verdi nodded. "Sure." It was early for dinner and a walk sounded like a good idea. Letting Gerald lead, she followed at his side.

Ignoring all the other attendents, the spirit-seer's attention was completely on the boy beside her. It was only by habbit, something she had picked up in her dealings with spirits. One spirit at a time was plenty. More than that? Not pretty, spirit or seer.

There was a particular dealing with the supernatural that had been on her mind and worrying her, but she wasn't ready to talk about that just yet. Not this early in the night. "You know what? This place is supprisingly spirit-free. I've run into the odd one here and there, mostly at the edges of the grounds or on a trip to Moline." Lucky him, he had just happened to run into her when she was chasing one of the only spirits on the school grounds. Giggling at that thought, she bit her lip to stop it. It was still very odd feeling to talk freely with another person. Part of her was still waiting for someone to lock her up in the looney-bin.

"I actually meant to find you earlier." She grinned. "This spirit of an old monk was sticking around. Who knew? You'd think a monk would be set to take that kind of journey of all people." With a shake of her hair and a sigh, Verdi went on. "Anyways, I thought you might be interested in his last wish. There's this book he always meant to get for his collection. Can you imagine what kind of books he must have?" Bright, emerald eyes sparkled with the excitment of finding the monk's collection.

Fern was beginning to lose her finesse on the floor. They had been dancing for quite some time, which was not only taking a toll on her little fae feet, but also draining her of energy she needed to keep up. She was actually becoming calm, which we all know is just not normal for her.

"Gavin," she said, "I'm in need of a bit of rest. You're a fine dancer, aye? But I'm out of practice and need some punch." Her wide, dark eyes sent a little plea out for him to waltz her right out of the dance. "Or a bit of food. Would you like to join me?"

Verdi's chatter smoothed out what had begun as a stilted conversation, and Gerald was grateful that she seemed to be in a good mood. He'd had enough difficulty for the evening, thank you very much. When she giggled, he raised an eyebrow at her. How could she be finding amusement in the memory of their fateful trip to Moliné? Oh... there had been that little incident at the trader's shop. He fought down a flush before it could even ghost his cheeks. Focus, Gerald.

Spotting a girl from his International Studies class, he gave her a quick, reflexive smile. She waved at him, but kept most of her attention on her date. Gerald thought he should know the boy from somewhere... but there wasn't time to try to place it now. He took a mental snapshot of her date to mull over later and turned back as Verdi kept talking.

"A monk..." he murmured, his tone showing definite curiosity. At Grove Academy? That didn't make sense... had there been a monastery near by in days of old? He needed to research that. That library was sure to have books on the history of the Academy... He wondered if Verdi had checked yet. As for the book, it would most likely be something sacred... or perhaps full of history and science? Monks often were involved in preserving knowledge. "Don't suppose he told you what book...?"His attention went to Verdi's animated face. Had she already found it? If not, maybe he could help her look for it. Already, he was wondering where he could go from the library...

As strongly focused as he was on the present and the living, even he couldn't help but love a good mystery.

Sebastian sighed as he slithered down the side of their hill. His boot heels caught on the small rubble that collected on the sides, sending it tumbling down with him in a mini-landslide. When he landed with a thud, he did his best to straighten his clothes and brush them free of dirt. "Yes," he said, wincing at a scrape he'd found on his hand. He'd have to deal with that later. He cursed that his power wouldn't let him heal himself. "For our own peace of mind. It would be...difficult...for me if I knew that one of the few I consider a friend was not compatible with me. I'm assuming that you have even less human contact than I do." He said, resting his injured palm on the snow-covered shrubbery. The snow helped to ease the slight stinging, though it was not, probably, very heigenic.

Samyule smiled. "Yes, and you can use it for a lovely set of curtains when you're finished." he said. Honestly, he'd never really liked the over-elaborate stiching on the Kurtas his sister sent him. This one was relatively plain, but the others...they would never see the light of day from his closet.

"er...all settled in?" he asked awkwardly. They'd been in school several months, but he wondered whether she had begun to feel as if Grove was her home. He was a nomad by nature, comfortable in any place as long as it had a bed and food.

Damien shrugged slightly as the elf sat down next to him.
"Yeah. Sorry about that," He sweat dropped slightly and started rubbing the back of his neck. "and I'm fine to say the least."
"Anyway. How have you been since we last saw each other?" The angel smiled slightly, hoping that she's been fairing quite well.
Damien shifted slightly in his seat before he also motioned for Pyralis to take a seat.

Though it took some self-control, he did the polite thing by sitting across from Damien. This way the three of them could all see each other without having to lean around each other.

I am sorry my love. Of course I hold no control over your actions. It was a sincere apology, but still controlled. Though Pyralis knew Anna didn't like him to be like this, it was a struggle. He'd need to work harder on his possesive actions so they wouldn't upset her so much.

For now, his expression was pleasant and of one interested in the convorsation going on. Perhaps he really was being too harsh on this boy.

She had known he'd be interested. Spirits and the supernatural put her in the zone. It was social gatherings that threw her off, much like this ball. As for the book...

"Well, I'm not entirely sure what the proper name is. He kind of mumbled it, but it was really hard to make out and in a different language. What we do have going for us is that the translated name of the book is roughly The Book of the Lost Tribes." Verdi thought for a moment, making sure that's what she remembered him saying and then nodded in agreement with herself. "The title almost gives away the contents, but he refused to say what exactly it was about. Very unhelpful of him really. Most of them aren't so cryptic in their last wish, wanting to get it done. I'll bet he enjoyed searching for the books more than finding them." If that was the case, this could be quite interesting and possibley take longer than expected. Though, if Gerald joined her in the hunt, at least it would be a good time for them both. "What do you say? You want in?"

"Oh, you know. The nitty-gritty things that come with the job. Reading, as always. Nothing to put me out of spirits, to be sure." Anna made sure to laugh and smile at both of them sitting at the table. Dear Pyralis, how he must be suffering, she thought ruefully. But to him, she sent a reassuring thought:

Apology accepted. You know I love you, A'mael.
To Damien, Annabelle posed an audible question. "So, what could make this night more entertaining for you? I'd just hate to see you sit here and look alone while we dance and visit people... we could introduce you to others. Would that help? Or would you prefer to remain the mysterious angel boy?"

In times like these, Anna had a habit of rambling on as she thought of solutions to a problem. It was a wonder how this quiet boy and this talkative elf ever became friends.

Damien knew exactly what was going on between the two of them, but said nothing, knowing better then to interfere. He glanced quickly to Pyralis, careful not to be noticed, and looked back at Anna while she rambled off ideas and thought about his options carefully.

Meet new people and be even more uncomfortable or stay here for the rest of the ball and be the outcast that he was?

He looked around at the beautifully decorated ball room whiling he weighed his options even more carefully a few more times before an almost inaudible smile graced his lips.

"I wouldn't mind meeting a few more people if you wouldn't mind the trouble."

User Image The blond angel roamed indiscriminately along the paths she felt fate pulled her down and she hummed music softly to herself, trying not to let herself realize her feet were going numb. When she felt she was alone with the Fae lights in the bushes, she stretched out her wings with a happy sigh and the ruffle of feathers.
"That feels good..." She breathed and relaxed, her wings still extended, face upturned towards the clear winter sky. The pinpricks of stars reflected in her light, open eyes and she smiled.

Pyralis listened and thought Anna's plan sounded nice. That was the main purpose of the ball afterall. It brought everyone together to meet each other and make friends. It was amazing to see the Keystone students and the human students getting on so well. Though he did notice many paired up with those of the same class. Ah well, that's just how it went sometimes.

Remaining in his seat, the dragon smiled at the other two. "I think I will leave you two to that endeaver. I shall sit here and enjoy my view of the dancers for the time being. It was a pleasure to see you again Damien. I hope your night fares well." He kissed Anna's hand. "I shall see you again after you are done, my A'mael."

Although it surprised her a bit to hear Pyralis willing to stay behind, Anna nodded to him before standing.
"Of course. Damien, I do believe you should probably come to know the Headmaster during this event. You've been scouting the grounds for so long... Kaien I'm sure would be thrilled to make your acquaintance."

With a reassuring nod and smile, Anna ushered Damien to stand. Kaien would be a bit hard to find in this large crowd, but she was sure to sense him out sooner or later.

The once black-winged angel was shocked to say the least. Pyralis actually willing to let Anna be alone with him? Damien looked around the ballroom quickly, to just make sure that all hell has not frozen over while the winter event was in place. "It was a pleasure to see you as well. I hope you find something to occupy yourself with while we're gone."

Damien stilled as his mind slowly registered his new found, and somewhat shocking, information. Meeting the Headmaster? This of course was of great importance to him and he didn't think he could take the pressure of trying to not make a fool out of himself.

He nodded slowly as Anna ushered him to stand, and being the push over he was, complied. He, once again, readjusted his tie as the elf pulled him through the crowd.

Gerald nodded to Verdi; his disinterested expression made it clear, to her at least, that his mind was already busily formulating courses of action. Hmm... translated? "Any idea what language the book was printed in?" He was looking at her again, rather than through her. The fact that the tome wasn't written in English could be either a curse or a blessing... most of that hinged on whether it could be found on campus. He let his eyes flick over the crowd a bit as he waited for her answer, thoughts stalled momentarily.
