Zarud Helviiryn "Of course how may I assist you?" Highly lucrative? I wonder why he hasn't talked to Valatar about this, he has more power here than I? He thought to himself, making sure his mind was shielded from prying eyes. Yes, I have...shall we say...friend? Who needs a bit of training in the Arcane. Now, if this friend may spend but a short notice of time for free, then the results of their training and my training of them will give your academy a rather powerful leg up over...others...of similar powers. I can offer incredible amounts of resources as well as...soldiers...if needed.

He thought about the offer "Is this friend, already skilled in the arcane art or are they a beginner?"

Llmryn's manor while listening was calm, sipping on his tea as he gave his full attention to the full list of measures he was to meet, along with his roles of duties and political status. A smile did creep along his lips at the mention of his rank. "Fifth, You honor me. I understand the shift of houses largely played a role in that I'm sure. But, it's still not common for a new house to acquire such a rank."
He sat down his cup and leaned back somewhat in his seat, his eyes still locked on Val'atar as Llmryn's deep red eyes glanced past through the lenses of his pitch black frame glasses. "As far as my trade issues", he said as he leaned forward in his seat, "I am in the process of setting thing up now. Anytime I can talk to the market managers I should already be a large part of the local economy. A school, as I'm sure you know, takes in many good, mostly in the form of books and the like, and exports goods made within the school. Also, keep in mind that those leaving here will not just be future consumers, but also taking up jobs that will likely end up with them sending out some form of sought after good or service."
"As far as my guards..." he started, looking around the room himself, "I have a very unique manor in which I fortify my defenses. I'm sorry, but I can really give out that kind of information at this time in case of listening ears, but I will trust you with the information that it does indeed take quite some time to arrange all preparations. So in that time I'm a bit more vulnerable. In any case, those arrangements should be set up by later this evening. I'm sure I can take care of things till then, but I thank you for your offer. You see, by time everything is set, I should have around one hundred trained drow guards, and almost one thousand other defence units, along with my own 'special' defenses. I take it with those promising to be up by this evening, you will have no objections?"

Zarud Helviiryn He thought about the offer "Is this friend, already skilled in the arcane art or are they a beginner?" Talented, but in need of more in depth. I am highly limited in my own skills, and as a rule detest most Arcane, so I cannot teach. But you, a Pale Master...can. If you wish to discuss this more indepth, send me a message...I await it.*with that Izaran retook his smoke like form and vanished*

He guard felt somewhat uneasy, but reluctantly answered the two. "W-well, This sir here" motioning to Zarud, ""I will put in a request for you to have a meeting with Lord Llmryn soon as he is done with his current meeting, thank you for being so willing to wait. It has been a very busy day. As for you sir..." Now motioning to Izaran, "I was the messenger from the school house from before...it seemed my Lord was very sure on his orders...he wants you off these grounds and to stay that way until further notice...I'm very sorry, it's just my job to make sure that order is taken care of." He sighed somewhat and then said, "But if you stay behind those gates until which time Lord Llmryn is finished with his meeting, I will ask him to reconsider that order, is that acceptable?"

Zarud sat there pondering the conversation "Pale master? I've never heard that term used before but his offer is rather intruiging, I wonder who his friend is and why I am talking to myself?" neutral
He then turned to the guard "Thank you it is most apperciatted and do you have anything in the way of books? I forgot to bring my copies of the compendium arcanum."

Seth sensed more trouble brewing. This was an excellent time to go home the young drow decided. She bowed and slipped away hoping to avoid any conflict. With her head low, she pushed through the doors and quietly made her way back toward the city. She made Erelavin stalk behind her to hide the bright hue of her dress. Familiar voices caught Seth's attention. Zarud and another man whose very name made her blood boil. Her former mate, Izaran. After leaving without a word, he had returned and still the b*****d ignored her. Seth had stopped dead in her tracks. Her fists balled tight at her sides, trembling with hatred and bloodlust. Of all the people who had hurt, betrayed, lied to and abandoned her, Izaran was the worst. Seth stood in plain sight. Her eyes narrowed and her fangs bared in a grimace.

-Val'atar draws his lips into a tight line before he nods ever so slightly and speaks in his whispered voice- "If you feel your defenses are sufficient, then I will take your word. Be aware however, that your former status as a follower of the spider queen makes you a target. You would be wise to see that your defenses are in place as soon as possible.
I'm not sure where you intend to get these soldiers from.. as all inbound on foot access to this city is controlled at the Eastern gate by my soldiers and on the river by my Privateers. Magical egress into and out of the city except by means which I allow are also forbidden.. as carried through by my control of the local Faerzress deposits. If you intend to gate in soldiers then I want to be aware of it. I assumed that when you requested permission to enter, you would do so with your guards and soldiers in company.
You should also note that my house controls most of the arcane users in this city. I rule over not only the mages and sorcerers.. but also I see to it that the Arcane Academy answers to me in its own fashion. If you intend to teach anyone anything arcane or psionic.. then it will be done through that establishment. I invited you here as a school of knowledge of the Drow history and ways, not as a rival in arcane lore."

"I assure you that the terms of your rules and currently in place security measures will not be violated in any way. I don't feel I should give way any details, but you have my word that I will not violate you laws you have in place, and I'm sure they are there for good reason." He gave no actions to imply he was being anything less than truthful, his eyes perfectly fixed on Val' atar and spoke with a steady voice.
He slowly placed his hands on his desk and rose to his feet. "But" His said with a very serious look across his brow, "I do for a fact run a magical research lab. Keep in mind that I don't 'exactly' train anyone in the magical arts, I don't pump out mages. That simply is not my business and you are welcome to keep that job to its proper places. On the other hand, I to share some on my works and allow those with high magical backgrounds to work in my magical lab. Thus, they will learn some magical knowledge in that situation. I have no intentions of ending that part of my duties around the school for two reasons. The first of those reasons stemming from the simple logic that I allow those with high magical backgrounds only into my labs, so they would have to of had some magical training at least before I would even let them into that lab. The second reason is that the few things they will learn in there are unique to myself. It's not something they will learn anywhere else till I release the knowledge to the publicly myself. Surely you agree that some unique magical knowledge is no match at all for a full course of magic training. It's highly likely that if they didn't attend you Arcane school, they would have no chance of getting into the lab in the first place." He turns around, and pulls a book of a shelf from his small personal book case. "I also wish to bring up that there are many books that, as far as I know, only my school has access to. A good number of these books are about spells and curses that haven't existed sense the times of the great war that lend to drow in the first place. I teach of these spells, but not how to use them. Even then I don't bring all of them to light, just the ones I would like to see back in the lives of drow. On the other hand, these books are far beyond rare. The spells of these ancient tomes and the secrets behind them are for my house only. But, with access to goods and gold to be paid to myself, I'm sure it would be no problem for me to set the Arcane school up with access to some of these same spells. That would make the Arcane training grounds the ONLY place to get full training on those spells. Am I right in saying that it would be more than worth the small fee?" He smiles as his fingers traced over the pages of the book. "Given that, I shouldn't be in any risk of becoming a threat to the arcane academy. Correct?"
The book quickly snapped shut in his hand, turning back to face Val' atar once more. "But there are also spells here that I keep locked away...ones that must never get out. One of the personal duties I have left myself with is to hide these dangerous spells from ever taking light ever again." He set the book down on the table and slid it to Val' atar. "This is a tome I have held on to for a long time. In it's pages it tells of how to make a special like of chimera, one in by which one removes part of ones own body and replaces it with parts from Abyssal Lord level demons. Mortal beings of that kind of fusion should never be mass created."
Soon after saying that, the floor under them started to shake. Outside the window, one of four tall towers around the grounds started to grow out of large magic circles that were places in a diamond shaped pattern around his territory. "Ah, so it's ready then. From this point on there should be far less unwanted company on my land. Those towers are one of those forbidden spells. Those towers are, in truth, living golems. Any unwanted company will have to deal with them. Best part about them, they take no up keep. They are a golem that is fully independent. That is only one, but also the final step in my defenses." He takes the book off the table and places it back in its proper place.

-Listening silently, Val'atar watches the drow with patient and cunning regard. When the book is placed before him, he opens it and glances over the pages.. confident that whatever the spell.. he'd be able to read it. When it was removed, he purses his lips and then licks them for a moment before grasping the chair as the estate rumbled with what felt like an under-quake. His eyes followed the motion towards the window and the tower beyond, pondering a few questions-
"You seem to have things well enough in hand and you are correct.. nothing about your laboratory is against the rules. I welcome such a place for the study of advanced spells and practices. Any magical items turned out from your house will be welcomed in the market I am sure.
I also welcome your contribution to the defense of the city, a guard tower such as you've shown me here.. properly placed at the East bridge would heavily fortify this city against invasion.
On a more personal note, I'd also like the chance to peruse some of your tomes should you feel generous enough to allow it.
You should also be aware that as it stands, your considered to be in alliance with my house. This means you can call on me should you need aid and you'll have my attention should you require it for consultation or as a third party in negotiations. Also you can expect a preferred customer pricing with my merchants and our vendors. For now I will leave this house in your capable hands and give you time to think things over and finish establishing yourself. Feel free to send me word should things change."
-Rising, Val'atar inclines his head to Llmryn in a measure of respect.. then waits for the guard to lead him out-

"I prefer to all it 'On good terms'." He smiles at Val'atar and waves a hand while speaking. "I don't mean that as a term of disrespect, I simply mean that I don't wish to pick favorites or choose my 'friends' too early in the game. But yes, I will share some of my collection. I'm a teacher first after all, and I'm sure I can learn just as much from you. Also, consider those towers already in production. I'm assuming you will need them to be a bit larger so it will take some time to summon enough spirits to create the life force needed to power them. If I may, I would rather your stone workers make the structures for them rather than me having to hire them. The plans for them will be on your desk first thing in the morning."
He nods his head and his guard rushes to the door, and then holds out a small crystal to hand to Val' atar. "Sir, for your safety, please take this with your, it will keep the new security system from attacking you."
Llmryn took his seat and looked to Val'atar, "If you need anything else, please come by and ask. The safety of this city is just as important as the safety of any house in it. This city is now my home, and wish to keep it that way. You will soon see that I have no problem spilling blood for safety, be it of the safety of the city or of my own home."

-Taking the crystal from the guard, Val'atar glances it over, then lifts his gaze to the lord of the house. His features tighten slightly as he regards the Drow for a moment before speaking-
"We all take sides.. but you can call it whatever you like if it makes your sleep easier. Be aware however that those who are not on my side are my enemies and they are dealt with in a most terminal manner. "
-Val'atar turns and walks towards the door, pausing to glance back for a moment-
"I will be expecting those plans.."
-Returning to his path towards the door, he murmurs softly just before he passes through it- "Darkness keep you."
Once he was outside of the building, Val'atar nods to the guard and then fades into a shadow, vanishing before the guard's eyes. Now within the shadow plane, Val'atar speeds his way towards his next destination-

The riddle was lost on Seth. Bitterness had consumed her mind. In a fit of rage, she struck Erelavin's head from her body. The former matron swayed on her feet from the sheer force of the blow. "I've had enough." Seth growled, shoving Erelavin's remains from her path. She left the headless doll where it stood and went home.
