User Image The kind spirit was saying his name~...
Hyo almost swooned with happiness. Someone so insignificant as him, being remembered...
He won't forget the kind spirit till the end of his life.

He was sitting next to Hyo now.
Though the spirit ignored the weird sitting items, and sat on the floor. What does it mean? Maybe these items aren't purified enough for the spirit to touch them? Hyo was getting angry at himself that he didn't pay as much attention as he should to the priest teaching about spiritual knowledge in the House. But at that time, he'd never think that it might've been useful to him.
The kind spirit said something again, though this time, Hyo had no idea what he might've meant. But it was surely something nice.
The boy didn't anwser, but smiled to his spirit-savior as warmly as he could. And decided to try and thank him once again.
"Priis. Eentoreesting, saank you!" He raised his head, and touched the spirit's head, in a same way the spirit did for him not too long ago. It made him feel a lot better, maybe it'll work for the spirit too?

Lai cocked his head to the side as Hyo spoke, understanding the broken English the boy spoke with only minimal difficulty. Lai's smile got a bit brighter at the pat on the head, knowing that a common link was just forged in its own way.

"I believe you said 'thank you' at the end of your sentence Miss Hyo, so I in turn shall say 'you are welcome'." He relaxed his sitting position and turned a bit towards the Korean. "You are welcome."

With that he started to laugh a bit, knowing he must sound like a fool to those who could understand him, had any come by at that moment. None did so far, so he freely laughed and felt better because of it. Shortly thereafter Lai subsided his soft laughter and pulled his jacket up onto his lap. While had no tissue to dry tears with, he did have thread, a needle, and that handkerchief. There was nothing much to do out in the hall, and he would not take the girl in the horned mask back into the ballroom for some time, so he might as well pass the time teaching himself embroidery. Maybe Hyo would want to learn as well.

"Do you...Know how to sew Miss Hyo?" He held up the spool of thread and the needle in his hands when he pulled them out. "I can show you if you do not."

Johannes was this close to exploding.

First, he was feeling very...ill, to put a sentiment on it. Oh he knew he was drunk, yes, but apparently there was something in the Ouzo that wasn't agreeing with his stomach.

I definitely should have thought of drinking rum, thought Johannes.

Then of course, the screaming. The thing had put something around him and kept screaming about drinks.

Then there was more screaming. More yelling. More talking. It seemed to increased as the seconds passed.

Where did the feather woman go? Bah, by this point he really didn't care. He was feeling horrible. He would apologize to her later.

Santísima Virgen y Madre de Dios, ¿podrían callarse todos la maldita bocas e irse al dichoso infierno? (Holy Virgin and Mother of God, could you all shut your damn mouths and go to hell?)

He uttered this under his breath but he wasn't sure by this time how loud or how quiet he was. Still, he walked away from the bar, clutching his stomach and trying to make it out the ballroom. "It would be best for me to lie down now, for a moment" he thought....

"Here's hoping that this is actually the something I do that does."

Einar reached over and took what was offered, quickly downing it all in one swift gulp. It burned going down, burned like the time he was tricked into swallowing boiling oil (tasted better though) and he cleared his throat slightly to prevent a reaction cough from occurring.

"Hm well, that was uneventful. Got another?"

...did the vision in his eye just swim slightly? Nah, couldn't happen that quickly.

User Image The kind spirit was happy, oh he was happy! Was he happy with me?
Hyo's smile widened, as Raai started to laugh. A happy spirit, such a good omen! And he was happy with him! Well, probably... But there was a high chance for that? Oh, Hyo would do anything to keep the spirit happy...
...and it seems he'll have a way.
<"..embroidery?"> The boy looked at the items in the spirit's hand. A small handkerchief, a needle, and some thread... That clearly suggested embroidery.
Does the spirit want me to do something for him...?
Hyo's smile widened. He was sure he'll be able to please the spirit - after all, like any woman, he was a mistress of the needle. He only needed to think what to embroider...
...but that was also easy.
He took the items from the kind spirit's hands, threaded the needle, looked at the spirit for a moment, and started his work.
He was making a portrait of the kind spirit.
It was in the style common for the boy's era, very detailed, and would probably take some time to finish. But it was easy to see that the boy knows what he's doing, and that he's really, really good in it.
After all, he thought, I would be a perfect bride.

Lai did not know what the girl before him had said, but at the smile he nodded as though agreeing with him.

"Yes, sewing. Or more specifically embroidery...Oh!" Lai was surprised when Hyo took his meager stitching supplies from his hands and looked at him before starting on something. So the girl did know how to embroider...That was good, he would not have to worry about the language barrier for now. Lai turned all the way to the side with his jacket in his lap to watch what Hyo was going to do on the fabric.

"Hm..." He only had that one tiny spool of black thread with him, so he was sure it couldn't be anything grand. Maybe a little cat or a bird; something small and probably on the border of the handkerchief. If he was in his room he would have many, many spools in different colors to use, plus some fabrics as well. But still, the girl seemed to have something in mind for that off gray fabric and he would have to watch, wait, and see. He was greatly interested and probably now he would have someone to sew with when this party was all over and done with.

What is this girl making? And why did she look at me so before?

User Image One move of the needle followed another, as the threaded painting was slowly being created by Hyo's hand. This felt so comfortable, so calming...
...like he finally was himself again.
Like he always did, before he run away from the House.
But this was not the time for sad memories. Embroidering was a joyful activity. It should bring you happiness as you work, and if you're happy, you can't possibly make a bad stitch...

As time passed, the spirit's face was slowly showing up, and the boy moved to his hair, taking another quick glance at Raai, before continuing. He decided to add a few flower branches as an additional decoration, to make his work full, and please the spirit...
...hopefully he will be pleased?

Lai moved up onto a seat next to Hyo to better watch the girl's work. He made note that the Korean seemed more at peace now but he said nothing. His smile faded to a pressed lip look of interest and mild surprise as he watched what was being made in front of his eyes. The Russian couldn't tell yet what Hyo was creating exactly, but it was something.

"....."

The man tilted his head to the right slightly to get a different perspective. It looked like...A face? The girl was embroidering a face onto the cloth and all of her stitches were precise. Lai was too modest and humble to point out, or know for that matter, that the face blossoming on the fabric was his own. Plus, he was too immersed by the needle's movements; the dives, submerges beneath the cloth, then the rise of the needle back up to do it all over again to even see it as his own portrait in thread. He got that way when he was normally doing the sewing, it was a calming thing to him and his work always came out nice in the end so there was no worry of messing up if he zoned out.

"You are doing a very good job Miss Hyo, but who are you embroidering onto that cloth?" Lai pointed to Hyo, then the cloth, and gave a quizzical look when the girl had looked over. "And you are adding branches too, how nice."

User Image Hyo was at peace, doing what he was doing, almost as if hypnotized by the needle. the small moves, as more and more of the portrait was created... He liked it. Too bad he didn't take his whole sewing kit with him, only the essentials... But maybe he'll find a merchant who'd like to exchange some thread for one of his possessions?
The boy felt really detached from the world, and the spirit's sudden question surprised him. He stopped his work, and looked at Raai... What was he thinking? Was he...upset with his work?
He seemed to ask him about something... Did he want to know why didn't the boy ask for permission to embroider his face...?
..maybe...maybe embroidering a face of a spirit was a taboo here...?
Hyo bowed and apologized quickly, hoping the kind spirit will forgive him. He never wanted to disappoint the kind spirit!

And so, the boy took the needle again, and started slowly pulling the thread out of the fabric.
This will take some time.

Lai caught the look on Hyo's face as well as the abrupt halt to his work and was taken aback. Did he offend the girl? It was just a simple question, he didn't mean to hurt her feelings like that! He looked down at the work the girl had done and smiled, trying to show he was not trying to make her feel bad. It came just as Hyo began to pull the thread out, so in order to prevent her from erasing her hard work Lai reached out and placed a hand over the one that held the needle.

"I did not mean to offend you Miss, but please, do not destroy your work like that." He shook his head to show that he did not want to see it ruined and pulled Hyo's hand away. He then used his free hand to pat the Korean on the head once more before taking the embroidery and skillfully redoing the thread that had been pulled out. He was not used to embroidery at all, but he would learn because he wanted to.

"Here, keep on going. I am sure it will be quite nice when it is done." Lai let the smile come back again and offered the fabric, needle, and stitching to Hyo. "I will not ask any questions anymore so you can do your work, okay? I am really interested to see what it will become. You are very talented at embroidery."

User Image When the kind spirit touched his hand, and stopped him from pulling out the thread, Hyo thought that his heart skipped a beat. So the spirit was not offended? He just misunderstood him?

The boy smiled widely and quickly nodded, as the spirit was putting back the last stitch. So the spirit was happy with it? Now Hyo could be happy too.
Only one thing shadowed over that happiness. The spirit was talking at him. A lot.
And the boy had no idea what he meant.
At first he was afraid to disturb the kind spirit's speech, but then he thought...what if the spirits asks something, and he'll misunderstand again?
<"I...I'm sorry, kind spirit, but... But I don't understand your language..."> He felt really bad after saying that...
But then he realized that the spirit will most probably not know what the boy just said.
Oh, if I only knew how to tell it in engrish...
The worst thing was, he probably knew. The foreign woman with a scroll did say a lot of phrases, and he thought one of them had something to do with not understanding...but he couldn't remember what it was!
Suddenly, he remembered something else. Something that might help!
He quickly put his hand in the other sleeve of his blouse, and took out the piece of fabric with written symbols that the woman gave to him. He couldn't read the engrish symbols, but there were korean ones next to them that probably meant the same...
There it was! 'I don't understand'!
He folded the material, so that only this line was visible, both korean symbols and engrish translation. He still couldn't read it, but he showed it to the spirit, hoping that he might know some engrish symbols...
<"...I'm sorry...">

Lai smiled wider as well as the girl took the items back but it faltered when she spoke. He couldn't understand her. Then it hit Lai, he was talking too much and the poor girl had no idea what he was saying. He might as well be speaking in Russian! He gave Hyo an apologetic look for his rambling before saying the words.

"I am sorry."

The Russian's brows raised as Hyo pulled something from his sleeve and held it out to him. Lai looked at what it read before nodding with surprise and agreement. He took the fabric from Hyo, opening it up and looking for the words he needed...Where...Where...Ah! There! Lai did the same as the Korean had done, folding the fabric over so that the line, in both English and Korean, was the only one showing. He offered it back to the girl and gave that apologetic look again.

'I'm sorry.'

He was extremely relieved that the girl had something like this with her, though Lai couldn't help but think that it would have been better if she had pulled it out before he had started going on and on. Oh well, that was past and the bilingual translations were there now, so no need to cry over spilled milk right? Right.

Lai couldn't help but feel that sitting out here was indeed better than being in the ballroom and a part of the party as a whole. Too much anger and noise in there, while out here everything was taken in stride. His mind had even forgotten about the man in the white mask for the time being, all of his attention on the girl while she still needed tending to.

The first thing that met his ears was the most harsh, grating voices in some sort of shouting match. Vashan stayed silent, but his heart pounded with an irritation at not being able to get along with anyone. He wasn't good with people, but still he wished that he could be, sometimes.

It was just that whenever he tried to reach out, he would usually mess up, and then something else would break.

The corners of his lips tightened slightly at the thought.

As he rounded the corner, however, something else met his vision. With the ornate doorframe as her backdrop, the feathery frame of a lady came into his eyesight, her stunningly immaculate white dress reminscent of... a bird? He fingered his own mask in response.

He flinched as she greeted him, his eyes scraping the walls for an answer he could use.

"Good evening," he reponded dryly, unsure of how to speak to this woman. At her comment, he quirked a brow, though he was fully knowledgeable that she could not see it. "I'm afraid not, no."

User Image Hyo smiled, and took back the fabric from the spirit. To his surprise, it was now folded on a different phraze...
...I'm sorry...?
Did the spirit just apologized to him...?
...this must be the kindest spirit EVER.
The boy sent him a smile, and bowed again, showing his gratitude. After that, he placed the fabric again inside of his sleeve. It seemed to be much more useful that he thought at first, after obtaining it.
So now, being calm and happy again, he could easily return to making his offering to the spirit again. As more and more details appeared, he was getting really pleased with himself. Hopefully the spirit will also be pleased... Though it's far from being finished just yet.

Ah good! She understood and now all was well in this corner of the world again. He was amused at how happy Hyo had become once he saw the words 'I'm sorry' placed before him. What an enjoyable person and he oddly didn't feel nervous around her like he did with most women. Lai was surprised it ended quickly and with few bumps in the road as he had ever seen, but he was grateful. At Hyo's bow Lai bowed back, trying to keep the open communications river flowing. Plus it seemed like the right thing to do.

He wondered why the girl put the fabric away, but then figured there was an understanding between them, so they really didn't need it as long as he kept quiet and "spoke" with emotions and physical interpretations. That shouldn't be too hard if he was creative. It would sort of be like charades.

Hyo got another pat on the head from Lai just as the Russian put his hands on back on his own knees. Lai believed that the girl responded well to his head taps, seeing them as encouragement, so another one couldn't hurt the silent relationship that was going on. Lai made sure he smiled every so often as he watched, looking over at the girl to show praise for the good job she was doing. The details were numerous and beautiful, though Lai still had no idea who was being sewn into the cloth. Hm...The person did look familiar though...
