Feeling his heart retreating from his throat, and the pressure from his chest, Conner smiled. "Then it shall be." He licked her muzzle lovingly, until the excitement became too much to bear. With a soft yip, he pounced Yuurei happily, paws wrapping around her and hugging her close as they nearly topppled over. The splash sent a couple ducks flying, who had come while they were sitting and talking, and they voiced their protests to the sudden disturbance.

The yip was her only warning before she found herself on the ground with Conner wrapping his paws around her. She was startled to say the least at the suddenness of his attack but she eventually gave into the excitement she felt pouring off from him. She laughed softly to herself and felt her tail wagging harder than she had ever experienced and as much as she would have liked for this moment to continue, it was a tad uncomfortable on her part though she could push that thought aside and concentrate on Conner's nearness. Trying to hold back a smile, she rubbed her nose against his ear before whispering softly to him.
"As much as I love this, I can't breathe."

Conner's skin crawled happily, eyes closed as he held her. When she spoke, his eyes snapped open and he started to pull back. Then he paused, cocking his head with an uncertain smile. "Is that another expression, you are you being serious? I don't want to suffocate you."

The poor guy! She was going to have to give him a lesson of some sort to teach him how to understand innocent expressions but then again it was yet another part that she loved about him. When he pulled back, she stared up at him with shining silver eyes.
"It was half seriousness and a little bit of an expression." She said softly. "And I probably shouldn't have said that you were suffocating. That was a tad extreme. I'm sorry..." She smiled hesitantly and nudged her nose against his before wiggling herself free and sitting beside him as close as she possibly could and burrowing her nose into fur of his neck. "This is much, much better... my love, my Conner."

Conner smiled hesitantly. Those 'little expressions' would be the end of him! He woofed softly as she nuzzled against him. "As long as you are not truly being hurt, I will learn about these... expressions. Then you won't have to worry."
He sighed at her words, tucking his head over hers. "Dear Yuurei." He said softly, licking at her ear. "I have one expression that I heard long ago. Now it makes sense. You are the light of my life. You're the reason the sun rose every morning, yearning to bring this day closer, though neither of us realized it at the time."

He's rather sweet... The voice whispered in her thoughts as she closed her eyes at his words and shivered when he licked her ear.
"He is sweet" She agreed absentmindedly with the spirit guide. She never expected to ever experience a love as strong as this and the more he explained the depth of his emotions, the more she fell in love with him. She laughed softly to herself and turned her nose into his fur. "I've finally found the place where I was truly meant to be..." She said softly into his fur.

Conner perked his ears slightly. 'He? Is she talking about someone else to herself?' But that couldn't be. This was love that they had found. That rare thing that some only dreamed of. The kind that was in stories. Right?
"Darling? To whom do you speak? Who is this 'he' that you mention?" Yuurei wouldn't be playing him. She had to have some reasonable explaination. Maybe the euphoria of the moment had made her tongue speak wrongly.

Yuurei frowned into his fur, wondering why he had asked her such a silly question. She meant him of course or had he not been listening to her correctly. It was then that she understood what he was asking her.
Perhaps being in love has made you think less. You are rather slow today... The voice chimed in her head. She heard a soft, echoing laugh and she pulled back from Conner.
"Shut up please..." She snapped. She groaned and gave Conner an apologetic look. "I'm sorry, that wasn't to you... earlier I was talking about you and I should have said you're sweet and not 'he's sweet'." She closed her eyes and turned her face from his. "I'm sorry, I... I don't know how to explain all of this really or where to even start..."

Conner's body stiffened. Shut up? Was this another expression? She seemed very upset about his question. When she started explaining, his body became less stiff, but not as relaxed as before. Now he was concerned.
He cocked his head. "My dear. Though we still have far to go, we have discovered our love. One that goes beyond simple words or expressions, or even misunderstandings and outside threats. Life is right when we are together." This was his way of telling Yuurei that she should feel safe telling him anything.

Tell him... the voice echoed in her head and she knew the only way to dispel the sudden awkwardness between them was to tell him.
Yuurei slowly opened her eyes and looked at him
"I've never told anyone but my sister but..." She hesitated and looked away, shaking her head as she did so. She winced when she head the voice again in her head, louder than it had ever been before. Tell him! She sighed and met his gaze again, prepared to take whatever reaction he would have but hoping that it would not be one that tore them apart. "I can see and speak... to those that have passed on. I was speaking with one just a few moments ago. It's why people think... I talk to myself."

Conner had opened his mind to nearly everything, preparing himself for what Yuurei might say. What came out of her mouth wasn't anything he had expected though. "You mean... the dead?" He felt very confused. How could someone talk to the dead? They were- dead!
"Are you okay with it?" He asked.
Right after Conner spoke, a heavy laugh suddenly made the air thick. "What in the world? She talks to dead guys!? Why would she be okay with that?" Maverick howled into the air. Once Yuurei and Conner had gotten safely away, the sparkles surrounding the irrate male had vanished. Though he was no longer wild, he still had a mean feeling about him. He was still mad that they had gotten away earlier. Physical force was not be his intent though this time. For the time being at least.
"Gee Connie. What kind of freak did you wind up with?" He jumped down from the rock he stood on, held held up in a dangerously collected manner, a laughing grin on his maw.

Was she alright with that? She hadn't been as a child but as an adult, she had come to accept it.
"I--" Her response was cut short by a voice she had never wanted to hear ever again. She whipped her head in the direction it had come and rose to her paws. She winced at his jab at her ability and flicked her gaze from him. Freak he called her.... Who was he to judge her or anyone else for that matter. She frowned and felt a sudden burst of anger that scared her.
"I'm not a freak..." She said, turning back to glare at him.

Conner spun in the air, jumping to face the intruder, instinctively tacking a step between Yuurei and the threat. "Again? Why don't you go on home and leave us be?"
Maverick smirked. "Oh, I beg to differ, little girl. I'm pretty sure no one else around here claims to see dead things." He turned to Conner and shrugged. "What home? A false father who would rather have brats of his own blood than care for me?" He shook his head, turning to face Yuurei even though he still spoke to Conner. "Besides, this girl here, we have something to finish." He licked at his nose, pointing out the sealing scratches there. "That hurt you know."

Was she truly the only one with that ability? Was she truly so alone after all? She felt the burning sting of tears and fought against them. Though she still felt angry and felt the adrenaline from it coursing through her still, she felt like he had slapped her with those words because she knew he was right. When he mentioned something about his nose, she frowned. What exactly did he mean by that? The memory of swiping his nose with her paw suddenly came back to her.
"You deserved it for what you did." She snapped.

Conner growled, infuriated that Maverick kept calling Yuurei 'girl'. "I don't want to fight you again, but I will if you don't leave peacefully." He looked back at Yuurei and his heart went into his throat. He would do whatever he could to protect her. He knew this new knowledge didn't change anything of what he felt for her.
Maverick grinned. "Aren't girls supposed to be polite and out of the way? Especially freaky ones like you?" He glanced at Conner, then looked right into Yuurei's eyes. "You shouldn't worry. Once I get Connie out of the way so that we can finish our fun, you'll apparently still be able to talk to him." His grin deepened, teeth shining white. Still, physical violence was not his plan. He wanted to see the girl afraid.
