Nodiea sighed and nodded. "Yes... unfortunately. It is a sacred time for our race, and we have to be home for it. We would not be gone for long, no more than a week, a fortnight at most. Orae, Silvrendir, you will be safe with the elves. They are not a harmful race at all. They wish nothing but for peace," she said, petting his hair lightly.

Rengeki nodded, "Aye, that is true, but they are not a trusting race either. You have one thing for your cause though: they have not seen an Ascending Angel in years, and would be glad to question you for years about your life. Do let them let you eat now and again, won't you?" he joked, earning him an eye roll from his sister.

Silvrendir was worried for a moment when Nodiea told him they had to leave him for a week, but when he learned that he would be with elves, he brightened right up.

"My mother is an elf," he said happily. "I think I'll be okay with them until you get back."

He paused, his expression suddenly worried.

"You ... will be coming back for me, right?" he asked worriedly. Adult he may be, but because of his size he had been treated very much like a child and at times he still acted like one.

Nodiea laughed. "Of course. We have to escort you home, don't we?" This earned her a jab in the ribs.

"We will come back, though if everything goes right, you won't need our help." The Prince smiled at him and then faced the direction they were going in.

The sun was starting to set and they needed a place to rest before nightfall. He looked for one as they road.

Silvrendir's eyes grew bright, and he giggled softly at Nodiea. Whether or not he needed their help, he would love to have them with him again ... he had always been a solitary angel, even in a family the size of his he had liked being alone the best ... but now he was so used to the prince and princess's presence that he couldn't imagine traveling without them.

As they continued to ride, he yawned widely and rubbed his eyes with the back of his wrist. The day had been a long one ... and he was more than ready to sleep.

Nodiea wiggled her arms under Silver's to take the reins from him. She looked at Rengeki, who nodded, and the pair dashed off toward a set of cliffs by the river. They weren't in tomcat territory just yet, but very close.

In the cliffs was a small cave, hidden behind an overgrowth of trees and bushes. Rengeki and Nodiea guided the horses inside.

"We'll stay here then cross the river tomorrow. From there, it should be just a few days of hard riding to reach the Forest," said Nodiea.

Silvrendir nodded and yawned again, waiting for Nodiea to dismount before nearly falling off himself. He caught himself just in time with his wings so that he didn't hit the ground, but as soon as he was on the ground, he folded them again and tucked them safely under his cloak.

"Taking turns keeping guard?" he mumbled, sitting on the ground and dropping his pack next to himself.

Nodiea smiled. "Just sleep Silvrendir." She patted him on the head before waving her hand over the front of the cave. Rengeki stood by the entrance. A silent conversation went on between them and the Prince slinked out to hunt.

The Manakete Princess sighed and sat on the floor in thought. It would be odd going home, going to a place she hadn't seen in a few years. Reng was sure to get his head bitten off by their father. She sighed again, and wished that their mother was still alive.

She began to sing softly in her race's ancient language, in memory.

Silvrendir obeyed Nodiea's command without question or hesitation. He was exhausted, and he knew that no matter what, he would not be able to keep guard as was necessary. Worries about his quest, about his friends, and about the new form of hunters that he had heard about filled his mind ... but he was so tired that even as busy as his mind was, his body's exhaustion took precedence, and before long his mind was as empty as the sky above them.

He fell asleep listening to Nodiea's soft song, his body filled with peace.

((Sorry to make you wait;. The plot died.))

The air smelled of rain when Nodiea woke up. She yawned and stood up, cracking her joints as she went. It must have rained the night before. A large black dragon sat in the enterance. Rengeki looked over at his sister and transformed.

"It rained last night," she said softly. He nodded.

"Yes, a freak storm. Scared me scaleless when it happened," replied the boy. Nodiea giggled and stared out at the rising sun.

"We should go." Her brother nodded and grabbed the horses. It was time to cross the river.

Silvrendir had slept through the night undisturbed by the storm, completely unaware that it had even taken place. He was growing more exhausted by the day, and the events of the previous day had been even more exhausting. But as the early morning sun shone into the cave, he stirred, slowly waking from his slumber.

"Mmn ... time to go?" he mumbled, sitting up and rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Yes, young Angel. It's time to go," said Nodiea, pulling Silver into the saddle in front of her. The trio rode down to the river to a town sourround it, and a bridge.

The Village of the Water Furs. It was a village of tomcats, who prided themselves on their ability to tame and control the river. Reng and Nodiea were cautious as they rode it. Sure, the Prince and Princess of the Manakete was title enough to ensure safe passage, but you never were to careful in tomcat country. They said what they felt and meant, and if they didn't like you, they really didn't like you.

Around them, the residents looked up at them, some curious, some questioning. They neared the village and were stopped by a guard. He was a monster of a man, with rolling muscle almost the size of the young Angel's head, and black hair. His eyes were yellow, and he seemed to hiss for a moment.

"Who are you to come to our bridge? Does the chief know of this?" he asked. Rengeki seemed to think for a moment before speaking, but Nodiea beat him to it.

"We are on a mission to the elves, Master Bridge Keeper. It is imperative we get their sooner than the dragon flies, and we must cross this bridge to do this." Rengeki looked at his sister. She was so much better at this than he was...

Silvrendir looked on anxiously, though he was beginning to get used to this kind of aversion and he was better able to hide it now. He was still sad that there was this kind of hatred and fear in a world, but he was slowly realizing that there was little he could do about it, except prove that he himself was no one to be afraid of.

Still, he would let Nodiea and Rengeki do the talking. They knew what to say.

"I cannot let you pass. Who are you to want to travel to the elves? We do not let humans cross this bridge without---"

"That is enough, Ranul. You forget your place when you are speaking to a Royal of the Manakete?" a deep voice cut the bridge keep off. Ranul shrunk and looked at Nodiea and Rengeki with wide eyes.

"I did not know Chief Unr... I did not recognize them..." he said, his voice very small. He bowed to the trio and shrunk back. The large chief shook his head and walked over to our heros. He was a full head taller than Ranul (who already looked like a bear), and covered in grey fur. White markings, and nuemorous scars covered his body. His yellow eyes were light with humor, and kindness.

"Prince Rengeki, Princess Nodiea, I am sorry for the inconvience. Mistress Mary's messenger just arrived not moments ago. I had no time to inform the village," he said, bowing low at the waist. The Manakete Royals did the same as best they could from their horses. He spied Silvrendir and jestered for him to come to him.

"You must be the young Angel Mistress Mary told me about. Don't worry, I won't eat your or something. I may be tomcat, but I am not feral."

Silvrendir had been watching and listening silently - nervously at first, at at the chief's intervention, he relaxed a bit.

He bowed his head respectfully when the tomcat spoke to him. "Thank you, sir," he said softly. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to do or say, so he looked from Unr to Nodiea to Rengeki and back again.

Chief Unr smiled at him, and gently patted him on the head. "Young Silvrendir, you are the first Angel we have seen in a long time. The last came in when my grandfather's grandfather was Chief of the village. This is quite an event for us, you must imagine." The tomcat bowed again.
