Oh the joy, at least that was the sarcastic view of Kaiden when he seen the attack on the Neko outside. Kaiden, who was curious of what Guyy could do wanted to stay outside and watch what was going to happen, but something told him that he needed to move out of the line of battle. Kaiden followed the others into the bar before making his way to a seat near a window and watching outside. It was a bit harder to see what was going on from here, but he could still see it clearly enough. Things then started to go at a much faster pace. Kaiden frowned as he reached up and pulled his eye bandage away from his right eye. From there, Kaiden watched what he could of what happened. Even with his eye free it was still nigh impossible for him to determine all movements.

"Curious." Kaiden wispered more to himself than anyone else in the room as he looked away from the window as the fighting seemed to draw to a close, if that is what you called fighting. To Kaiden it just appeared to be a bunch of mindless violence agianst innocent bistanderds. That was what annoyed Kaiden the most about the fighting, the fact that the man who had started it all killed random people who hadn't gotten off the street. It wasn't just that though, Kaiden could hear them, those who weren't dead but just injured. The noise was going to drive him crazy if something didn't happen about it soon, but then agian Kaiden couldn't really do anything about it himself.

Kaiden slowly put his hands to his head as he attempt to block out the sounds outside. Even while in a human form, the sounds were louder than normal to him. Kaiden slowly laid his head agiasnt the table with a sigh as he closed his eyes. What a trip this was turning out to be. It was just ironic that this would all happen in Barton, the town he personally wanted to avoid. Everything that had ever bad that had happened to him usually involved Barton in some way, just in this case it didn't really involve Kaiden. The point was still the same though, it was still Barton.

As Guyy finished secreting the items he'd taken from the corpse's stall around his person he turned to watch the other man rip out his heart. He smirked to himself at the amusement of it. He supposed they were both thieves of a sort. Not that he really considered taking things from a dead man to be thievery. It wasn't as though he could use the items any more. It was more like scavenging.

As he hummed a red mist began to fill the area, making it difficult to see. He glanced around, pleased to find it didn't interfere with his heat senses, though it did slightly muffle his ability to sense the shadows as the light grew red and dim. He nodded with approval. This would do as excellent cover.
"The weather around here sure is something eh? One minute it's sunny, the next it's raining swords and then before you know it, red fog everywhere. Tsk. It's almost as if it wasn't natural at all." He grinned.

They walked slowly through the mist, Guyy content to let the Count set the pace. The place was silent, aside from the staccato of the cane on the stones and the soft groans of the injured that occasionally punctuated the stillness. Those who had survived would be found by the appropriate services soon enough, he knew. Seemed a bit of a waste to him. He wasn't normally one for such random and widespread violence. He much preferred to keep things neat and simple.

"Ah the Clan. We're pretty much a mercenary group, though the jobs we are given are not always what you'd expect." He began, thinking about the situation with Nette for a moment. Not everyone handed their child over to a group with a reputation like theirs for protection, but so far it was working and he considered her practically one of his own. "Mostly we're a collection of the more unusual members of Gaian society. A safe-house of sorts you could say. We have some very varied skills in our ranks. And all kinds of levels of powers. And on top of that we have our own... particular goals. There are a lot of loose ends that we combine to tie up, so to speak." He added. His mind wandered to their recent attack on his old Boss' estate. Gloria was still on the run. Messy.

"So really, it's not just what you can do for us, but what we can do for you as well. It seems we may be able to pool our resources and aide one another in our challenges. For example, the business you had with the neko fellow. You remarked you'd been after what he had for thirty years. I wonder how quickly my clan might have been able to sniff him out for you, you see?" He tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. "And it does make me wonder if you may be on the hunt for other such stolen things. I doubt you would have invested so much time in this one case if it wasn't important."

Ilia smiled widely as Nette as she made herself comfortable and cheered her on. Ilia giggled a little, distracted from the thoughts of what her father might be up to. As she turned away to watch Parvarti's attempt she missed Nette examining her found treasure. It would be very unfortunate for the kitsune if he attempted to take it from Nette while Ilia and her mother were around though. Ilia had been known to openly attack people she deemed a threat, after all. And sometimes she did tend to underestimate her own strength. For now all she displayed was mild interest in the man her mother was chatting to.

"Cold?" He looked down at his plate and sighed. Jack picked up his fork and poked at the eggs restlessly as Parvarti took her turn. He toyed with the meal, pushing it around the plate. He didn't lift his head from Raven's shoulder, finding himself to be quite comfortable and reassured by the casual contact between them. Though he did glance up to Kaiden trying to block out the sounds from outside.

"You never quite get used to that noise, do you?" He smiled sympathetically. Jack knew the sound of suffering far too well. "It'll be over soon. Help is coming for them now. You may as well help yourself to a meal or a drink." He suggested.

Revaire, who was silently eating in the corner of the bar, was quite aware of the fight and other events that were going on. His hunger, however, took a greater priority then brawls or talk. "My compliments to the chef!" Revaire said as he finished up his ham omelet and started drinking his coffee. Although the meal was delicious and filled his appetite, he needed some blood in order to satisfy his thirst. He didn't have to drink blood now, however, as he could go up to a week without blood. But the thirstier he became, the lesser was his control and strength. "Oh well, I'll just pick up some concentrated blood pills later on."

As he got up, he observed the other shinigami members in the bar. Most of them, in his opinion, were very violent and restless. Revaire sighed. "Hopefully I'll be able to find my cure soon enough," he said quietly to himself. Picking up his coffee and putting a nice tip on the counter, he made his way to the others in order to have some idle chat. "Ah hello you guys. Enjoyed the food?" He said in a calm, kind tone. He always had the unique ability to calm others down, even in dangerous situations like the one outside.

"As a wise man once said "Use what the God's give you and be happy with your blessings."

The cleric said with a chuckle as the red mist curled around his ankles, a soft smile on his lips as he breathed in deeply listening to all the unsaid words from Guyy.

They were much, much more than just simple mercenaries with simple goals like Guyy was insinuating. No.... they were a pretty unique group as they seemed to be discreet in their dealings which was alot smarter than most of the "other" groups in these lands.

Usually, that would set off a few alarms in Zantara's mind but he had his reasons for letting some of his usual rules to be a bit lax. Pulling himself out of his internal musing by Guyy asking a question, the cleric flashed a bright smile at the man as they came to the front of the bar and pushed open the door with his cane, motioning for Guyy to go in first with a little bow.

"No no... the business with the Neko was one of those things that only a orochi or a strong psion could deal with. That particular piece of my soul had been sent out on a mission neigh on 60 years ago.. when he did not return for the usual absorption, "I" knew that he had went rogue. He's changed bodies at least 12 times in the past thirty years and had grown quite adapt at hiding his specific soul signature from my senses. The only way I was able to find him so quickly was that he'd made a large mistake in taunting me by the mail. Used a pheromone sensor to track him down in the end."

Giving the man a sly little wink, the Count continued.

"Oh there are always pieces that do not wish the gift of returning to their maker. But none have escaped the Zantara for too long as I have grown quite adapt at tracking those who betray our sacred oath."

The red fog wasn't just obscuring Guyy and the Count. On the roof of the building across from the tavern was something you really didn't see everyday. A large white kitsune. It sat at the very edge of the roof, watching the men below, tail curled comfortably around its paws. Shiroi had arrived. And only a few moments before, for if anyone had paid attention, the kitsune had seemed to materialized right out of the red mist.

However, neither of the snakes were the kitsune's real focus. That focus was the girl in the tavern. Thanks to the connection with Akane, the other kitsune was well aware of the not so subtle threat over making the girl cry. There were other ways of getting back what was theirs, easier than thievery.

"Ah, Shinigami-san. Had I intended to just steal it and run, I wouldn't have bothered with conversation." Akane seemed a little amused at her assumption. Even Aoiro would have objected to stealing it. "I assure you, none of us will harm Nette-hime."

He'd already gotten an idea. The girl liked green it seemed, and one of the leaders referred to her as a princess. Well. What girl wouldn't trade a small pearl for pretty necklace?

Jack looked up as Revaire approached and sat nearby, speaking in general to anyone who would listen. He poked at his own eggs once again. Why was everyone trying to make him eat anyway? Though there was a sense of irony in his choice of breakfast anyway. It was only just a couple of steps away from cannibalism, all things considered.

"The Gods gave me nothing." Guyy replied to the cleric with a wry smile. And it was quite true. He was a product of science and of Gaia herself. "And trust me, not everything is a blessing. Some of it is quite an annoyance." He raised his voice a little as though he was chastising the mist. It was for Gaia's benefit. Somewhere, unseen but never too far away, he knew his Mother was laughing at him. It was all normal banter for them.

He listened with curiosity as the Count explained the nature of his dealings with the Neko. A hint of a smile pulled across his lips. No doubt the reaper he loved had known fine well the soul was really this man's. She had been toying with him, testing him most likely. Something about him had caught her interest and her actions had forced him to show just how powerful he was.

Clever.

"I suppose it's a bit like having a lot of children in a way. There's always one that simply has to rebel." He nodded. He gave him a nod of thanks as he held the door open. The pair of them stepped into the bar and he gazed around. His clan was safe. He smiled to himself.

"Daddy!" Called a small voice. Within seconds there was the pounding of small feet on floorboards and a small blonde girl had attached herself to Guyy's leg. He sighed and chuckled, reaching down to pick her up. Hardly the fierce and stern image he was trying to maintain for their latest potential recruit.
"Hello sweetie. Been looking after the others for me?" he smiled to her. She nodded enthusiastically and looked over her shoulder to where Nette was watching Parvarti playing with Raven. "I have something for you. Here."

Guyy set her down and with a gentle motion the little hair decoration he'd bought her was clipped into the mop of blonde hair. Ilia giggled sweetly and gave him a hug. He pressed a couple more of them into her hands and shooed her off to give them to the other girls. She dashed off to Nette first, opening her hand to her with excitement to show her the little trinket Guyy had brought her back. It was a hair decoration too, but this one was bright green.

"You certainly seem to know what you're doing." Guyy remarked to the Count. He glanced over to Kaori, in discussions with an unfamiliar man. He wondered if the cleric would recognise her in this form. "Come, let me buy you a drink to celebrate us not killing one another." He offered, leading him to the bar.

At Guyy's first statement, Zantara looked up at him with the kind of expression that Jesus might have given someone who had just explained that he was probably allergic to bread and fishes, so could He possibly do him a quick chicken salad: there was pity in that expression, along with almost infinite compassion.

"Oh you poor man. There always is A God's hand in every thing in the multiverse no matter how small or how large it might be. You may never know it but a greater spirit is always there behind every detail."

Shaking his head in amusement as Guyy headed inside and he followed the man, the Count took a look around at the rest of the group. An odd lot....and he could sense that same odd sense of the Lady from before nearby. Looking around slowly, he allowed a small smile to grow into a grin as he finally pinpointed her as the little girl came up to Guyy and the Count stepped to the side and absorbed what most would consider his "aura", so that for most people Zantara would be nothing more than a shadow on a black wall...namely the children.

"As a wise man once said: Children might or might not be a blessing, but to create them and then fail them was surely damnation. I hope that one day they all will come back of their own free will but sometimes.... sometimes there are those who go too far and must be dealt with harshly."

Sitting down at the bar, Zantara placed his cane on the tabletop and looked at the alcohol choices on the wall before motioning to the 'tender.

"Yuengling, my good man. And another one for my companion here."

Kaiden swore he could have heard someone try to comfort him, but when Kaiden looked up he nearly winced at the sounds from outside. Kaiden wasn't used to hearing suffering going on without end, and this was one of those moments. When Kaiden fought he didn't allow the people he fought to suffer, no Kaiden couldn't stand the sound with his ears. Kaiden finally managed to pick Jack out of the crowd as the one who spoke to him, and in turn Kaiden gave a weak shrug. "Can't eat. The sound just takes it out of me."

Kaiden slowly laid his head back on the table as he finished speaking. He couldn't help it, and becuase of that he was practically handicaped for the time being. He needed something to bring him out of this... well mess. Kaiden slowly raised his head as he took a deep breath. "Ok." Kaiden wispered as he let out the breath. The noises were still there, still attacking him mentally, but he was forcing them aside so that he could stay focused on what was going on in the bar now. He had seen both Guy, and the man who had attacked the neko outside enter, now Kaiden could only listen in to see if he could figure out what was going on. He had already picked up a rather interesting bit of information from those speaking aloud without realizing Kaiden was listening to all he could.

Guyy actually laughed when Count remarked there was a greater spirit behind every detail. No doubt the idea of being called a greater spirit would be rubbing Gaia's ego up terribly. No doubt she was listening in. She usually was. He decided not to tell the man that both Heaven and Hell had actually spat him out for not being on their lists. It seemed such information given at this early point could even damage their relationship before it really began. He looked over to the man, raising a brow at his pitying expression.
"You're a religious man, I presume?" he grinned. The Count was obviously a cleric of some kind after all.

The little blonde girl looked back at them for a moment, openly staring at the Count, though the other children didn't seem to notice. She was memorising him carefully. There was something a bit off about him. But the glance was short and she turned back to her friends with a cheerful giggle. Guyy watched her with obvious affection. She was good at what she did, when she remembered to do it.

He took a seat next to Count at the bar as the man ordered. He glanced down the bar to where his beloved sat talking with a young man. If he caught her gaze he'd give her a warm smile and a gentle nod. The Count's choice of drink was delivered swiftly and he sipped at it, finding it quite agreeable.
"So, you're clearly not exactly weak. And you have good cause for chasing the Neko down. I shall admit, you could really bring some power to our ranks I think. And if nothing else we provide a safe place to retreat to full of like minded souls." Guyy remarked, sipping at the beer. "Did I mention we live in a library?" he chuckled.

Sometimes that was the biggest selling point of the clan.

Jack gave Kaiden a soft smile. With Guyy safe and sound he was able to eat his own breakfast a little, though he hardly had his normal appetite back at all. He wrinkled up his nose and nodded in understanding to the man.
"I know exactly what you mean." He sighed softly. "I never got used to it either."

Emma Jane's frown deepened as she looked over at Caira. So Guyy was using his shadows? Maybe that is why her vision was feeling a little out of sorts, perhaps it was too dark.

Or maybe it was just too damn loud in this place. She needed to practice on partitioning her mind the next time she was alone. Still so much to practice, but Emma Jane was determined to get better, and the books in the library had really been helping.

She nodded sympathetically to Caira, since she'd found out about Guyy and Caira sharing abilities she'd come to accept it and move on a bit. After all, even though she knew more about Caira know than she ever had, she was still the same woman.

She looked over as Guyy entered with another man, the slightest of smiles on her features. 'Good, everyone in our party is safe.' Her golden eyes swept across the group once more, taking inventory. She hesitated when she saw Kaiden, who seemed to be in a lot of pain. That was unfortunate. Still, he was safe.

It seemed like the mood in general lifted as the master walked back in, and some of the worry melted away. She sipped her drink and took a couple bites of her meal, strawberry pancakes, mmm.

"In a fashion. I am what most would consider a Facilitator and Obstructor of Fate and Destiny. Is a man truly religious when faith is replaced with certainty that the Gods exist?"

He said slightly sardonically as his order arrived and he paid the bartender in a gold coin. Removing a ivory pipe and pouch from his belt, the Count began to pack his pipe with a pinch of what seemed to be purple tinged tobacco and continued speaking.

"I have walked with Gods and seen their fallacy and faults. I have risen mere mortals upwards into dietyhood and even held such power in my own hands a time or three. No... I am not a religious man nor a true cleric. I am something quite different that such simple things. I am the truest of mercenaries, working for deities of all shapes and sizes.... as long as they can pay my price. Morality is an outdated fallacy that has no bearing on this world of greys."

Pulling a strike anywhere match from the side pouch that held his tobacco, Zantara struck it on the rough stone countertop and lit his pipe, puffing contently small rings of purple smoke that smelled of lilacs and jasmine.

Sitting for a moment as he gathered his thoughts on what Guyy offered him, the cleric was reminded of a certain artifact that he had put aside after creating a few years ago. The location he had built it for had unfortunately been destroyed before it could be put to use, but a library... now that might actually be useful. Especially one that wasn't tainted by his own magic so much.

"I believe we have something to offer each other then, Sir Guyy. I have in my possession a piece of magic that brings the contents of written objects to a simulacrum of life all in one location. Sort of a magical index database. It... might prove useful in your Library I should think. If nothing else, it might prove that you have a few tomes that I have been looking for in my spare time."
PostPosted: Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:23 pm

"Very well." Kaori replied in a dignified tone, "Do as you wish, but harm none of my clan." she finished casually, in effect dismissing the fellow with permission to hang around as he wished, with a final reminder of the only rule he was required to abide by.

Although a smirk tugged at her lips a moment later, knowing the look Guyy passed down to her without having to see it. Her gaze was on her glass as it was being filled, the bar keep in front of her received a friendly and appreciative smile.

Her thoughts were becoming distracted as she sipped at the dark liquid in the glass, sensing the authorities drawing close and already working on clearing the area, rushing to injured and carting them away. Sealing off the area in tape, there were people absolutely everywhere outside and she could sense them all in their hurried movements. A few guards even entered the bar to look around at the mix of people hiding here from the scene moments earlier. With perplexed looks on their faces they shrugged and walked back out again.

And the lady giggled cheerfully at an inside joke.

Raven looked over at her down the bar past Jack. "Did you...?"

"You bet."

He smirked and shook his head, carrying on. They'd wait until the authorities were gone before leaving the bar and it wouldn't take that much longer at all.

"Oh, I fully believe in something. I never really got a good look myself..." Guyy shrugged. His time in Heaven had been the briefest, a mere nod from the higher powers. Just long enough to see his birth mother one more time. And then... she was lost to him forever. Gaia, however, was more real than real. And she was effectively a goddess. "I suppose there is a big difference between faith and knowledge." He considered with a slow nod. he'd never thought of it that way before and a wry smirk pulled at his lips.

"Anyone who can afford us are welcome to our talents. Gods or mortals alike. But some jobs may cost a bit more than others." He eye fell on Nette again. Her mother had handed him a lot of money. He had handed back a large portion of it. The job was an easy one, and had become such a pleasure for him he would gladly refund her entirely when she returned for her child. Not that he wanted to let her go really, but he was not her family. "I suppose that you could consider our clan a sort of agency for such mercenary activities." He turned to look back at his drinking partner who was tamping a pipe.

He lit the pipe and sweet scented purple smoke rose from the bulb. Guyy took a deep but discrete breath, savouring the mild toxicity of the smoke. It was his guilty vice. Well, smoking was his only real vice these days. And he was getting careful about even that around the kids. He was getting soft in his old age, a fact that made him chuckle quietly to himself. As they sat in a moment of contemplative smoking and drinking Guyy watched a police office wander in. He stared at the man with crimson eyes. He had been able to feel the movement outside and hear the sirens.

The officer looked confused for a moment as he glanced around the bar. Guyy's eyes flickered to Kaori who was calmly smiling at the bartender. He grinned with amusement. The officer left and Guyy knew he'd stepped in and seen nothing but an empty bar. As Raven leaned over to speak to her and received the simple reply he knew that as he suspected, she was responsible for the illusion cast on the cop. he turned back to the Count and raised an eyebrow.
"That does sound like a very interesting magic trick." He said with a smile. That seemed like something he'd like to see in action. As long as it didn't interfere with the Library itself.

"Well, as you can see we're on something of an outing today. We're heading north than circing around back to the Library via Gambino. I shall extend an offer for you to join us. It will give you a chance to get to know our ranks. And if by the end of the journey you still find us agreeable, we can work through the details and get you added to our numbers as well." He smiled as he made the suggestion.
PostPosted: Sat Oct 24, 2009 4:38 pm

"It is all the difference in the world, Sir Guyy."

The Count said, soft streams of smoke escaping from the corners of his mouth as he watched the police officer, slightly amused at the whole situation. As Guyy spoke about working for anyone with the money, he gave a small nod in agreement. So they were more like him than he thought. This was turning into one of those "Too good to be true situations" that Zantara found so annoying when the other shoe finally dropped.

It was going to be... quite messy once that shoe did fall, but at least he could have some fun until then.

"A magic trick? Oh no, my good sir. It is so much more than that. It brings life to the knowledge, a complex intuitive understanding that simple written words can not phantom nor understand. Once the device is properly tuned, then it will, with the right input, offer such wonders that this world has never seen nor dreamed of."

Slightly proud of himself, the nobleman took a long drag from his pipe as he listened to the mans suggestion ans pondered if he had anything that had to be dealt with in the mean time.

"I believe that I shall take your suggestion. It would be prudent to get to know my companions as it were. Would you care to do the introductions?"

Perhaps the situation really was too good to be true. Often such situations simply fell into Guyy's lap. Not that he was complaining about such good fortune. He chuckled deeply and leaned on the bar, sipping at his drink.
"Like I said, it's a nice magic trick." He grinned, his expression one of frivolity. He was clearly just joking with the man playfully. "Truth be told I am not exactly one for magic. That's more the area of my two ladies there." He raised the hand holding the glass and pointed out the other two Seniors.

"The one there with the long black hair, that's Lady Aya. She's not one to cross, however frail she may look. Nor is the man at her side. That is Lord Caine, and he is powerful in his realm. But still weak to her." he smirked and winked a little. Despite Aya's cold nature she had a warm heart when it came to the lord. "The little one with black hair and odd eyes is their daughter, Parvarti. Yet another I really would not irritate. She inherited a lot from her parents. Including her mother's swift temper."

"Now, the beauty sitting over there at the bar and talking with the bartender I believe you have met." He chuckled low. "That is Lady Kaori, my own dearest. You've seen a fraction of what she can do already, but you seem to have amused her. You are fortunate. The little blonde with Parvarti is our eldest child, Ilia." He nodded to her. "And the one with curly black hair is her friend Nette. She's staying with us for a while. It's best advised to avoid upsetting her as that will upset Ilia too, but I sincerely doubt you have any intention of bothering the children at all. Just be wary of them. They have been known to get up to mischief when not being watched closely. Especially Parvarti. Nothing malicious, she's just a very intelligent and curious girl. When combined with her... skills... that can cause chaos." He laughed openly. Parvarti amused him and he had endless patience for his mischievous niece.

"The blond and the redhead are Raven and Jack. If you are the sort to frequent nightclubs in Durem you may be familiar with them, at least by sight. Jack owns the Dragon's Den and Raven is his star DJ. And... ah..." He looked to where Jack was subtly cozying up to Raven. "And a little more too." he smirked. One by one he went around the other Shinigami present, pointing them out and naming them. He pointed out Emma and Caira, both friends from a different clan. Kaiden, a quiet man who had proven his own skills in the past. Revaire, an odd man with a taste for battle, and anyone else who had accompanied them. Including the nervous little masseuse Esteban, who was not actually a clan member. He did however recommend his services.

"As for the trip, I do believe we shall let the mess outside get a little tidied up and head back to the bus. We shall be gone before the police ever realise we were here. Thanks to your little trick with the mist and Kaori's skills with illusions we shall be shrouded." He nodded with satisfaction.
