He raised one brow at her and smiled. " Well believe it or not, Danni may be as quick tempered as you, but I think she'd like you even more for it. Ella is gentle and forgiving enough that she wouldn't care, and do her best to be your friend. Sometimes she can see things in other people that I don't. Though, she has quite the snappy tounge when she wants to." He grinned at her, taking a sip of his tea, which was delicious. " No getting outta this one, Rosie."
' How did I find myself sitting across from a gorgeous girl on such a fine day? Ah luck, you never let me down..until I actually need your help.' He thought, with a wan smile as he watched her expression and the light in her eyes change. She really was very pretty..

Wow, she really didn't have a choice here, did she? "Alright." Rosie's quirky smile once more pulled at her lips as she lifted her glass to take a sip. There had to be some kind of real conversation they could have. She was being too guarded again, as always, and it was inhibiting the basic interaction. "So, what are you into?" she asked, setting down her glass carefully. "Like, music or whatever. Got a car or anything?" Boys liked cars, she told herself. Get them talking about their ride and the rest was just a matter of feigning interest.

He chuckled nervously. " No and I don't suppose I ever will anytime soon. I'm not too interested in them, and too poor to ever hope for one. But as for music.." She wondered if she would be interested. " Ella, Danni and I make our own music. We each can play two different instruments; it's the guitar and drums for me." He smiled and shrugged modestly. " We've recorded a cd or two, but nothing big. It's more of a past time than anything else." Rather offhandedly, he said: " I'm really more interested in writing and art." He smiled at Rosie. " So, what about you?" He asked, eager to know more about her.

Ah... a poor boy. But did it really matter? "My parents are rich." She shrugged. "But a band? That's cool. Better than anything I could do... I can barely get out a note or two on my own." Not so much of a lie. She had a fair voice, but was always too shy to make it better.
But at the mention of art, Rosie visibly perked up. "I love art. I have all this art stuff in my dorm for painting and drawing. I have a sketchbook with me, too." Already her hands were searching for it within the bag sitting at her side. Out came a worn leather-bound book tied with cord to keep it shut. Without any ceremony, she slid it across the table, careful not to hit his cup of tea. "If you need tips or something, I'm always up to show you a trick or two."

Colin smiled at her eagerness, and reverently pulled the cord from the book, setting it aside before delving into it. It is said that art and writing are windows to souls, and the thoughts that pass through them. If what she drew was any idication, Colin suspected there was much more to Rosie than she cared to admit, behind those walls she put up to keep everyone out.
At the back of his mind, in a corner that he had kept silence since the last time his poor heart had been torn asunder by an unfaithful girl he thought he loved, he wanted desperately to know Rosie better than he did now. Know her thoughts, her heart, everything about her, anticipate her actions, even love her in time.
But that little part of his was locked away, and would take a good amount of coaxing to get it to wake again.
" Wow...This is really incredible." He smiled up at her, gently flipping through the pages as he saw the waitress coming back over. " I don't get alot of time to paint and draw, as there are alot of over things I have to do first, but it's nice to know someone loves it just as much as I do." He easily replaced the cord just as it had been around the book and handed it back to her as the waitress made it back to their table.

"It's life," she said with reverence. "And... thanks." Colin seemed strangely interested in everything he had seen, from her drawings of flowers, to still life drawings. Sketches of goofy cartoon characters were also in there every now and then, but there was a different style of hers that incorporated both her realism and imagination. Rosie definitely had something, and wasn't about to let it go. Hearing Colin approve of her work made it all somehow more valuable. She wanted to know why.
"We could make time, you know. Weekends or something. Or we could just hang out." Hopefully spending more time together would reveal the answer to her question. Was it his eyes, his impressive height, that drew her to him? Or was it just the way he spoke? Colin was already making her want to change and defy the attraction all at once. What a whirlwind she had found herself in.

Colin beamed at her, tilting his head towards their waitress as she came to rest beside their table. " Special for me, if you please." She nodded and turned towards Rosie as Colin gathered up their menus. Inside, there was a pleasent thrum curling through his veins. It had suprised him that she made the offer of spending more time together; maybe she wasn't really so shy after all. Either way, it brought a purely contended smile to his face.

"I'll have the caesar salad with grilled chicken, please," she said to the waitress, that time making the 'please' come out naturally. Rosie even lifted her face to the eager one taking her order. "And if there's any cracked pepper for the salad, that would be nice. If not, don't worry about it."
Once she had gone off once again with a little smile and nod (which Rosie was beginning to wonder was part of the job), she returned her attention to her newfound friend. With what she had heard thus far, there were a few questions she had buzzing in her brain. Always the inquisitive one, she just came right out and asked. "So... how'd you end up here? I thought you said you were tight on cash."

There seemed to be a nervous aspect in his smile, now. " We could say that...you and I are from opposite sides of the spectrum, money wise. The matron in place where I grew up, the one who took care of our group of kids, recommended me to this place for the grades I get. She knows the headmaster." Colin shrugged self-consciously. " Other than that, it was pure luck." He twiddled his thumbs together while resting his hands on the table.

Connections. Everyone had them, it seemed, even an orphan kid like Colin. "Yeah... my parents just went, 'oh! Our precious genius of a child isn't being challenged enough.' So they shipped me off here." Rosie gave her own little shrug as she concentrated on sipping her water through the little white straw. A bit of ice had clogged it, and so she began nervously tapping the end against the lip of the glass. "Not like I mind being away from home. I like it here, so far." Mostly because I've just met you.

He smiled and leaned back a bit in his chair. " Well, atleast you have them. Both of mine perished in a car accident when I was two." He shrugged, rather sadly it seems. " A blessing and a curse to never know your parents." Colin shook himself. " Anyway, off that depressing subject..Have you seen much of the school grounds yet?" He asked, tilting the conversation away from that area. He didn't really like to talk about it, not because it was painful, but that he knew he should feel worse about the death of his parents.
He'd never really gotten to know them, and felt uncomfortable when talking about them. Heck, he didn't even remember their names!

Rosie was just about to launch into how her parents might as well be dead for all their absences, but Colin had steered away from the subject. Not wanting to get into a miff, she obliged.
"Not really. Here and there, but I went to get my dorm all set. Gotta keep things looking good in the new home, right?" Rosie lifted her eyes right to his as she laughed from the irony. It seemed she would never have a real home. "What about you?"

Colin smiled and shook his head. " No, not yet. I wanted to, but I figured I should get my uniform and things first, before thinking about it. I don't even think I've finished unpacking yet.." He thought, trailing off into a thoughtful silence for a moment. He took another sip of his tea. " So, what other places have you been at before you came here?" He asked.

"Me?" The blonde sat back in her seat for a moment, thinking. "I've been to... California, Colorado, New York City, Michigan... anywhere there was some great, awesome school, I've been there. Then of course my parents plucked me away once they thought I had the gist of it to stick me someplace else. I stopped paying attention to where I've been a long time ago. I like thinking of where I am."
Colin, she thought, probably would have stayed in relatively the same area for most of his life, getting to see the same people every day. Even if he was an orphan, man, did she envy that kind of life.

" Neat. I've always wanted to travel. See a bit more of my world that what was outside the proverbial backyard." He grinned at her as the waitress came and set their plates infront of them, rather unexpectedly. Salad for Rosie, and a rather refined looking plate of pasta for Colin.
He winked at Rosie, twirled a bit around his fork, raised it to her, and took a bite. After a few seconds of chewing, he nodded with approval, washing it down with a sip of tea. " Olive oil, garlic, cheese- parmesean probably. They boiled it pretty well too, and used fresh tomatoes. Probably from a garden out back or nearby." He said, taking another sip, followed by a bite.
