He smiled again.
" Good. Life would be boring if there was nothing purely unexpected coming ones way, yes?" He didn't expect an answer, as she seemed the shy, anti-social type. It probably wasn't helping that he was so constantly calm, but it was better than acting a pig. He chuckled softly at the bell that sounded around her neck, finding it rather cute.

"Yes," she said, in a near mimic of what he had said. An unexpected smile pulled up the corners of her lips until she really was beaming. Well, if having a nice conversation with an attractive foreign boy was one of those unexpected pleasures, then surely she would look forward to them more often.

"Well now, let me pull you away from your friend for a minute, eh?" a voice said from behind her. Rosie jumped nearly out of her shoes when the seamstress spoke, making the older woman laugh gaily. "Come, dear. Let's take your measurements."
With a gentle insistence, Rosie found herself being led by the shoulders to the little stool where her measurements would be taken. Her brown eyes, such an odd color that they almost seemed red, flashed an apologetic look as Rosie was helplessly set on display.

Colin grinned- he really liked her smile- and waved his hand as if to say' Hey, it's no problem', before circling around her, though he kept his eyes on the merchandise. Mostly.

It seemed Rosie was used to being fitted, the benign look on her face saying all. It would be a new experience for him, seeing as growing up in a orphanage didn't really imply new and fancy clothing. He set himself to humming softly and fluffing his hair a few times while he waited to be measured, taking glances at her every so often.

Indeed, the routine was commonplace for Rosie. She turned, lifted her arm, allowing the measuring tape to slide across her waist. Soon enough, the woman knew exactly was sizes to get for her and how they would be treated. Rosie was soon given permission to step down, no doubt having her position filled by the boy she had just met.

"Over here, dear!" the woman called to Colin. In the hopes of continuing their conversation, the small girl took a seat by the area.
He's different, she conceded as she busied herself with fake text messages and listening to voice mails from nonexistent friends.

It took him a moment to balance himself on the little stool, but he wasn't clumsy like Ella; rather graceful for a guy, infact; so he had no trouble. As he was measured, he looked over Rosie with an inquisitive eye.

' She's different.' He thought, thinking of all the other girls he knew or had known. Ella and Danni were both his best friends and like sisters, and he'd had two other girlfriends by the names of Sara and Calli, who were only alike in proving they had no idea of what the words ' faithful to your so-called boyfriend' ment. All of them were outgoing and a bit wild. He admitted that he didn't have much experience with shy girls, or shy anyone for that matter, though he felt an inclination to help her out of that shell, if he could.

In short, he thought she was quite adorable.

Colin smiled as she looked up at him, and decided to be smiling whenever she saw him, on the off chance she might smile too.

Once more, she found herself smirking at his expression. He certainly was endearing.
I hope he's not stupid.
A cold wish, but if it was one thing she couldn't stand about anyone, it was ignorance. But she would simply have to find that out for herself, and judging by his comment on strange events, he wasn't stupid at all.

Rosie waited for him to be done with measurements before standing from her seat.
"So... where are you heading after this?" she asked, adjusting the strap of her purse on her shoulder. In contrast to the rest of her, the purse was something rough and festooned with buttons. Here and there was a patch of colored, wild cloth that even if there wasn't a hole, served the purpose of holding the bag together.

(Note to Others: Verdi and Gerald are in a completely different time frame, so please, ignore us and continue as though we weren't posting. ^_^; Trying to rap up an older RP...)

Gerald stood frozen, eyes wide and fixed on the terrible apparition. It took Donovan rushing from the store to snap him out of it, and he had half a mind to run after him... if his feet would only move. Gerald had absolutely zero experience with the supernatural beyond the occasional horror movie. Verdi seemed just as shocked as he was, but from her expression, she was more worried about his reaction than the mangled, ghostly form before them.

She really can see them, Gerald thought, but the notion made him want to shake his head. Was this some sort of infectious hysteria? All he knew was that this was not normal.

"I-is it dangerous?" he stammered in a low hiss. Even with the world completely turning on its head around him, he had enough sense not to attract the attention of Madame Vernier.

In a way, Verdi was glad the other boy had left. That meant she only had Gerald to worry about with this strange situation because the fact was, she didn't know if it was dangerous. "I...I'm not sure." The voice was barely more than a whisper. The spirit-seer didn't want to say that this was the first time anything like this had happened to her, but it was. No other spirit had mannifested itself to others. Spirits in general didn't hold that ability. A rare few had shared stories of spirits that could do so, but this one was looking way too substantial to count.

Seeing the two frightened students, the spirit could only keep up the cackling which was sure to become annoying to those present. It seemed even the spirit-seer was unsure what to do and that suited this spirit just fine. It had figured as much. The odd part was that the boy had stayed, even being as frightened as he was. Which one, which one? That was the question.

The female student looked around, trying to figure out to do. Nothing came to mind. "Gerald..." Come on, think! "...run." Wide, green eyes stayed locked on the evil spirit.

"... what?" Gerald hissed. No, that had not been a squeak. He did not squeak. It looked like Verdi was grasping at straws; his suspicion was that she had no idea what she was doing. Besides, his feet still refused to move. That insane cackling...

As though reading his thoughts, the ghost turned to face Gerald, a hideous grin distorting its features. The paralyzed boy seemed to be the more tempting target. It floated closer. In a voice laced with the sounds of screeching metal and crumbling stone, it crooned, "Come here, boy..."

A new rush of adrenaline flooded Gerald's system. There was no way he was letting that thing anywhere near him! His legs jerked to life as he stumbled backward. His back hit a rack of clothes, and he quickly dodged around it, putting a weak shield between the spirit and himself.

It laughed again, a vicious grin growing wider on its face. The air grew colder, and Gerald could swear there was a sudden breeze. If anything, the spirit was feeding off his fear, growing bolder as the seconds passed.

Gerald was no hero. Every bone in his body screamed at him to run, but he hesitated, looking at the girl across the shop floor. Verdi looked just as frightened as he was, and if he ran, there was no telling what would happen to her. If she survived (god, if she survived?), Gerald would forever be branded a useless coward. If he ran out that door, he might as well kiss social status goodbye. Still... he had absolutely no idea what to do besides run.

"Verdi..." he said, raising his voice a little to be heard over the sudden hum in the background. Maybe he could get the girl to make a break for it with him? The spirit still wasn't between them and the exit.

When the spirit lunged for her shopping companion, the girl felt her throat close up and her stomach dropped. The spirit was definitely going under the evil and dangerous category. That thing was definitely a threat, but she had only taken a jerking step in Gerald's direction. She couldn't be useless. She was a spirit-seer. This was her area!

Gerald's voice reached her ears, but she barely heard. Breaking her gaze from the evil in the room, her eyes flashed quickly to him, pleading and hopefully conveying that she was working on it. Back to the evil again. "Wh.." A quick swallow, more of a gulp, and Verdi tried again. "What do you want?" It wasn't the thing's appearance that scared her so bad. She had, in fact, seen worse. Yes, she had seen much worse. "I can help you."

A bitter, barking laugh replaced the cackle for a mere moment. It was followed by a voice that would haunt Verdi's dreams in the nights to come. "I don't think green is your color." The sound grated against her ears like daggers. When it floated towards her, she stepped back, causing another barking laugh. "I'd rather you were painted in red. You two could match." The spirit turned back towards Gerald. A crooked pointer finger started to shape into a knife.

Another swallow/gulp. "Now, run." This time her eyes locked on the boy and she nodded to say she would flee as well. If they ran at the same time, perhaps they could make it out alive.

The young man had spent most of his life reading other people's faces, so it was obvious to him what Verdi meant. This time, he was ready. He gave a split-second of eye contact to show he understood then made his move.

He had been clenching his uniforms in his fists since the incident began. Now, he brought his hands up to shield his head before darting toward the door, hoping to meet Verdi in the process. He had no idea if solid objects had any protective value against spirits. It wasn't exactly his area of expertise... or an area he had previously considered part of reality. The ghost let out an ungodly screech, but he didn't turn to see whether it was following. He just ran, his heart pounding in his ears. Verdi was a blur of black and green in the corner of his eye as he shoved the door open and sprinted out into the street. Only then did he risk a glance behind him, praying he would see Verdi had followed him and the horrible apparition had not.

Ignoring the scream as much as someone could ignore such a scream, the green-haired girl flew out of the store behind the boy. The door slammed closed behind them and then they were in the light of a late-afternoon sun.

The spirit continued the screech for a moment longer and then dissapeared. The clothier finally rushed to the front of her store to see what that horrible scream was all about, but nothing remained. It was any empty shop. A bit pale and shaking her head, she returned to the back of the store. As for the spirit, it was gone from the shop and town completely. It had suceeding in teaching that stupid seer a lesson...well, started at least. Who knew it would have such luck? A young little spirit-seer to mess with. Grove Academy was suddenly more interesting. No doubt that boy would be fun to play with again and there were always more students to harass...

People in the street were giving a wide berth to the students that had just launched themselves out of the clothing shop. Considering the look of the two, this wasn't supprising. A punky dressed girl with green hair who had no color in her face left and seemed to have broken out in a cold sweat. The boy beside her seemed just as bad. Both breathing heavily, Verdi slumped against the wall of the store and dropped her packages beside her. She defintely needed a moment to cath her breath. In between gasps, she looked to see how Gerald was doing.

Gerald was also panting, feeling as though he couldn't get enough air to make the ground stay steady. Verdi had escaped as well, thank god. He had no idea what he would have done if she hadn't. Who could you ask for help with something that unreal?

"Is it... gone? ... Will... it follow us?" he gasped weakly. Noticing the odd looks they were getting, he tried to reign in his expression, which he supposed must look terrified. Many times in his life he'd been nervous or uncertain, but never had he been so truly frightened. Previously, the scariest things in his life had been a bully or an ugly rumor. Still, he had a reputation to solidify. Gerald Campbell was calm, cool, and collected. He did not run around town in hysterics.

Calm. Cool. Collected. he repeated to himself, blanking out his face again and finally beginning to catch his breath.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 01, 2008 6:52 pm

"I'll...check." Taking another deep breath, Verdi slowly straightend and turned to look in the window. Nothing, just a clothing shop. "It's gone." The words came out in a relieved sigh. The fear was slipping away from her, but lingered at the edges of her mind. It was there to remind her and would keep residence for the day at least.

Returning to looking at the boy, it was a supprise and somehow not, to see his face calm again. How did he do that so well? To a point, the girl had begun to master the same, having to mask her talent. Today had by far been the worst for it, having made a fool of herself in front of this student.

"Are you...ok?" Wow. That sounded even more lame once said aloud and yet she had to say it. It was just one of those questions that popped out when nothing else came to mind. So it seemed that applied to this situation where Verdi could think of nothing else to say. Somehow asking 'Did the evil spirit we just encountered hurt you and are you starting to calm down' didn't sound like it would go over well.

It showed how ruffled Gerald was that a little bit of incredulity and annoyance slipped into his expression when he glanced up at Verdi. It disappeared so quickly it might not have been there at all, but there was a long moment of silence while the boy tried to figure out an answer. Both 'yes' and 'no' came to mind, along with a few insane-sounding rants that he would like to direct at her. In the end, he couldn't really come up with an answer that sounded as collected as he would like, so Gerald chose to completely ignore the question.

"... you've never come across something like that before, have you?" he asked, meeting her gaze. He already knew she hadn't; the shock and fright he had seen in the store were proof of that. Whether she would deny or admit it--that was the real question.
