This is kinda a weird idea, but maybe we could have all the counterparts of a single mythological goddess involved. I'm too tired to think of how to incorporate them at the moment, but it could make for an interesting storyline. Maybe we could do...

Well.. Ares isn't really known for his quick wit anyway.

And I decided to make the nautical people get shipwrecked by mermaids because Joxer accidentally made the boat disturb mermaid territory?
Possibly something else, too.
So now they're either on a cursed island, or they were also cursed by the mermaids.

I've been trying to think of a curse that the mermaids could've put on the island to make Xena crazy.
And if it doesn't affect Gabrielle, then it has to do with something that Xena is and Gabrielle isn't.
