Ruque looked from one parent to the other, blushing slightly from being put on the spot like that, but he cleared his throat and said clearly, "It smells good and tastes really strong and it complements ... sauces ... and ..."
He paused for a moment, licking his teeth again.
"And it's hard to get out of your mouth," he frowned, sticking his tongue out. "But it tastes better with thyme."
Celebor laughed heartily. "That's my boy," he grinned, reaching down and ruffling Ruque's hair affectionately. He put one hand on Niyana's shoulder. "At any rate I'll go wash this and be back in time for dinner."
He kissed her on the cheek and headed out once more.

Niyana reached her hand up to squeeze her mate's warmly and smile, "Alright my love...be safe and dinner will be ready when you return."
She smiled and nods, "Very good Ruque. Though rosemary is also normally used in fancy cooking and with some kind of fruit or lots of other spices. " She smiled, "Alright you put the herbs in and mix it all around and I will put the rabbit in."

Ruque blushed again. "Yeah ... I forgot that. Sorry."
He scrambled to his feet and picked up the herbs he had torn up, tossing them into the bowl with the rest of it all.
"When do we cook it?" he asked as he picked up his spoon and began to stir. "We have to cook it, right?"

Niyana nods, "Well if it were fish the acid in the lemon juice would cook it without heat but yes after we put the rabbits in and coat them then we put them on the fire to cook..and after we cook them on one side for 10 minutes and they are brown we flip them and good them on the other side." She smiled and put the rabbits into the pan, "Alright scoop the sauce atop them dear."

Ruque nodded and scooped up the sauce obediently, pouring it evenly over the slices of rabbit.
"And how do we know when ten minutes is over?" he asked, looking up at Niyana seriously. "For that matter ... what are minutes?"
He had never heard of a clock and while the concept of hours was tangible to him anything else was ... odd.

Niyana laughs, "Well lets see people measure time in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. But for now we will just watch the rabbits to see when they get brown. We will work on time when your siblings come home on the weekends. I think then we will teach all of you reading, writing and time."
She moved a chair over towards the fire and set it up for Ruque to sit on it and she put the pan into the fire. "Alright now we wait." She held out her hand so Ruque could get on it and she could put him on the chair.

Ruque smiled and climbed up into Niyana's hand, holding her thumb and grinning up at her.
"Can I sit with you, Mama?" he asked, his voice filled with hope. "It's comfier sitting with you ..."
And he hadn't sat with her yet that day.

Niyana nods, "Sure you can sit with me...though I will have to put you on the chair when we check the rabbit to see if they are brown so you an tell." she brought her son to her lap.
She smiled, "So are you glad to be home learning cooking and healing...and don't just say so if your not. I want you to be happy Ruque."

Ruque snuggled up against his mother's stomach and smiled up at her.
"I'm happy," he told her sincerely. "I'm very happy. I miss Aras and Kanis, but Ruran isn't making fun of me and I'm learning lots of things and I'm being helpful and I didn't even have very many accidents this time!"
He giggled and leaned against her again, closing his eyes and smiling blissfully. "I'm very happy, Mama," he murmured again.

Niyana looked down at her son and smiled her fingers stroking his back reassuringly, "You did very well hardly a mistake...and I am sorry that Ruran picked on you."
She watched him, her heart was so full of pride for her brave little son all alone here with his parents. "I am very glad you got to stay with me."

Ruque's smile grew so wide that it nearly covered his entire face.
"It's okay, Mama," he said softly. "Corrah said I'm better than Ruran because I care about people, so it doesn't matter what Ruran says. I might be a scaredy, but I care about people."
He cracked one eye open and looked up at her, still smiling broadly. "I'm happy I could come back here with you, too," he told her honestly. "I wouldn't want to be away."

Niyana nods, "Yes you are very right you are better than him in lots of ways. You are willing to learn too." She smiles, "Though it looks like your ready for a nap my dear." She looked up at the rabbit and smiles, "I think we need to check it now."
She picked up her son and put him on the table. "Shall we look?"

Ruque grinned sheepishly. "Well ... it was a long walk and then a long walk and then a long run and then lots of lessons," he admitted, "and I missed my nap earlier ..."
As Niyana set him on the table, he scrambled to his feet and nodded, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hands.
"But I think after dinner I'm going to go to sleep," he mumbled, yawning. "I'm so ... tired ..."
But he forced himself to keep his eyes open and watched as Niyana checked the meat.
Celebor returned then, wet rabbit pelt over one arm, and chuckled softly. "It looks like someone's tuckered out," he murmured softly as he joined his mate and son. "Has he been working hard?"

Niyana smiles, "Yes after dinner you can sleep...or you can sleep now and then we can eat." She smiled and brushed her son's hair, "Yes he has been a very hard worker." She smiled at Celebor, he looked so very handsome with the rabbit pelt over his arm. He was so handsome she wanted to pounce her mate.
"Come on Ruque lets get you to a nap and when you wake up you can have rabbit...its not bad cold or we can reheat it."

Ruque shook his head stubbornly. "I want to help finish it," he insisted. "If I don't finish ... I don't know all how to make it ..."
He looked up at her and smiled. "I can stay awake ... honestly ..."
But once the meal was done he was going to crash. He could feel it already.
Celebor chuckled softly. "Then we can be very proud of him," he smiled warmly, his eyes sparkling as he looked back at Niyana. "But let's eat then, and let him sleep."
And then we can go for our own endurance training, he thought to his mate with a mischievous grin.
