Masqued Maaaaan. This is going to seem wonky and botched to most of you, but here goes.
Nownownow, people who like Gerik are still PotO fans, but just fans of the movie. They know the basis of Phantom, so they're not ALWAYS that bad. McErik fans can be the same way. [I know I am. D:]
Before Gerik, it was "OMG MICHAEL CRAWFORD IS TEH SEXIEST MAN ALIVE~!!11onwe!1" No joke. he still is, for future reference. D:And movie Gerik fans aren't bad when they get shown to the book, or the Lon Chaney version [he did his own makeup, the Lonmeister knows his deformities! Hooyeah.] or even the Claude Rains, Charles Dance, and um, various play versions.
I sort of went form 5 year old PotO fantatic [my parents are hard core play fans.] to forgetting, then the movie came out and I was all, "HOMG I FORGOTTED! D: D:"
Oh, I guess I forgot to mention Susan Kay's book. Well, fans can turn to that, too. =D
But overall, creepy Gerik fangirls get on my nerves. I have a friend who likes to rp PotO with me, but I'm "Only allowed to use Gerard Butler". I like to make references to the orange marmalade thing, him not having a nose and looking like a zombie, and smelling really, REALLY bad. ...I've only seen the Gerik movie, read Kay's book, the orginal and the phantom of manhattan (sp?) BUT I don't think the Gerik version is the best. I'm currently trying to see the other versions out there...which is hard when you have no money. LOL, you an only rp the Gerik? I have like 2 of those and one Kay one...an orginal book one would be kool.

We may like a scary, scary man who wears black lipstick and a freaky-as-hell bird mask, but we still qualify as phans. And we have as much right as anyone "OMG! WINSY-LOW IS TEH SEXXIEST MAN ALIVE!" We're just...different. Hehe. Funny how you and I both had a PotO memory lapse until exposure to the 2004 movie commercials. And Phantom Phan 4ever, you must see PotP even if it seems way too freaky, or you don't like the look of Winslow. Quite honestly, I thought I'd like Winslow less than Gerik before I saw the movie.

Personally, I get peeved at the people who automatically assume from the 2004 movie that Erik in every version is hot. 'Tis true, Gerik is very hot. *Robert Englund as Erik is not. 'Tis quite creepy indeed. But that's another story...* 2004 movie rocked, but so did the retelling of PotO when Erik was played by Robert Englund (aka Freddy Krueger). That was kinda creepy, though; it had overtones that reeked of Leatherface *too many skinned bodies xp *
But the people who are disturbed by Erik's deformity are more annoying; they are superficial. Erik was a composer of beautiful music, an artist in the true sense.

Bubblesbb03 The thing I ABSOLUTLY hate is #...5, I think it was? When recently made fans (and I mean ones who see the new movie and love it to death and think they're ultimate phans after seeing it five freaking times) are shamefully gloating their phan-ness and then when you ask them if they've read the books, seen the play or seen any other of the movies, they're like "Huh? There's a book? A play? There's MORE movies!?" I've had to deal with so many of them, I've lost count. I think the count is roughly around the population of my school (which is about 1300). D:

The indifferent people just aren't in the sig, because they usually don't comment on the pictures, and there isn't room for another line for some reason. Gaia bitches on how my signature is "too long" when I've tried to add another line. Blagh.
Welcometomyhell, I also have a tendency to compare the Robert Englund PotO to the 2004 version, but in my case, it's because I have a mild dislike for both. I mean, sure, as movies they're not bad, but there are too many disappointments in them. I don't find GB!Erik sympathetic, nor RE!Erik. GB!Erik is just too whiny with to little a deformity, which makes him appear as though he's an angsty "GAWTH" or emo teenager, bitching about how nobody loves him because he has a sunburn. And RE!Erik is too evil. Plus, Robert Englund kinda sucked as Erik, and he both looked and acted as though he was Freddy pretending to be Erik. I mean, get an original makeup job, and stop copying from his Freddy roles. Otherwise, I think the movies themselves aren't bad, just some of the acting and the way they portrayed the character of Erik.

I get ticked off by people who call them selves true Phantom Phans, but they don't evean know who the Persian is, or they don't evean know all of Erik's names. ((Erik, Phantom of the opera, opera ghost, Angel of music, angel of doom ((they get lost at that one)) ))

... I used to hate rabid Leroux purists. The kind that beat everyone over the head with canon at the slightest deviation or AU and hate all adaptions.
