He thought so. Inwardly he rolled his eyes. He did not have the experience of teaching young to pull from. "Stay near me. Watch your footing. Don't let them step on you. That is hard to explain, but I will try. It's like moving through the forest, very fast. You have to dodge the trees as they come, only you cannot memorize where they are because they move. You muct be quicker than their feet!" Koenshan tried to make his gaze pierce the juvenile's so that the point would be driven home, but he was not sure he did it right. "Stay near me, keep an eye out for Ren. n** their ankles if you have to. I will have to make the killing blow." The realization both stunned him and bolstered him. He would have to. They needed the food.
He could see because he had turned his head back to speak to the silvery grey juvenile and so had to mask his shock at seeing River return looking damaged. He did not want the females to take too much note of it, it might put fear into the young one. She was probably plenty afraid already. "Let's hurry. Ren..." He nodded, somehow knowing she would know what he meant because she probably already knew what to do. Undoubtably better than he. He trusted her to tell them when silence was required of them.((Should we RP the hunt here, or elsewhere in the packlands? There's no "meadow" thread.))

Sapphire eyes looked up at him as he explained it to him. Her pelt twitched nervously as she nodded. She knew wolves got injured and even died on hunts, though she was a bit more worried about messing up the hunt then that.

((I'm going to nudge Ren a little, I hope you don't mind.)) The she wolf was silent as she led them out of their packlands & to the edge of the meadow where the three of them hunkered down in the dense underbrush. Lucky for the hunters their pray was upwind from them. The scent of fresh meat so close caused Koenshan's empty belly to rumble meaningfully. He forced himself beyond it and scanned the herd of deer, as he was certain Ren was doing. There were a number of young, closely surrounded by their dams & several other virile adults. The herd leader was weaving among those adults; his full head of antlers a warning in the open meadow. Possibly the stag was counting them or checking on their status. The green wolf really didn't care. Then he saw it. Probably a two or three year old judging by its size and points. It was hobbling funny, being kept to the edges of the herd. Koenshan's eyes lit up. Its leg was broken. Perfect. He licked his lips hungrily. A herd did not like to protect an injured member. This specimen would be forced to the outer edges. Not only that, but the young buck was having trouble with it: a relatively new development then. Good. He most likely had not learned how to compensate well with only three legs then. With luck he would never get a chance & the pack would have fresh, rather tender meat to feast upon. He looked at Ren meaningfully, trying to point out his target silently. He indicated the herd with his head, then attempted to immitate a broken forleg. He had never tried this with her before -how could he have? They only just met- and had to hope he was clear enough. *edit: fixed some spelling issues 'cause I reread it & confussed myself. sweatdrop *

(( I am SO sorry guys! I got caught up in Pern RP and I'm still not used to checking sub-forums @__@ *hits self* If it happens again I won't mind if you prod me into action, sometimes it's the only way xD;; )) She shifted, trying to concentrate on anything but the pain in her paws. She swivvelled her ears around to listen as the male spoke to the younger one, a sly smile curving her maw. Well atleast with him giving orders it saved her a job.
As River entered and she heard Koen's sign for them to get going she simply nodded and began.
It did not take them long to reach their destination, her ears lifting and eyes lighting up to take on the feverish glow that the hunt infected upon her. Saddened that she was going to be a mere distraction in this hunt she forced herself to concentrate.
She caught Koenshan's signal and nodded in reply, indicating for him to move around in front of the deer. She would spook the injured deer in his direction if possible, and with the male and the other female they would hopefully be able to take it down.
She moved to her own position, creeping forwards on her belly in the grass, piercing eyes watching and waiting.
Soon...soon they would hunt, soon they would feast. The adrenaline lanced through her being as she forced herself to wait. This was - in her opinion - the hardest part.

River was doing the best thing for her, she had rested and then washed Desert even though he was clearly old enough to look after himself. She woke up not long after falling asleep, she couldn't see Diego and let out a small whimper, she wanted to see her mate, she loved him greatly and seeing him now wouldn't be a bad thing, that was for certain. She smiled at Desert and stood up slowly. She stretched with a little pain and then walked to the entrance of the cave, the rest of the pack wouldn't be long, would they?

((I'm going to continue to RP Desert as a pup until the next "day" at least...I asked them to hold off on his growing, but apparently they didn't see my post in the growing thread, oh well))
Desert's ears pricked as he watched River get up, and he wondered what she was thinking. "Thank you for saving me earlier," he said quietly. "I'm sorry for wandering off...." He whimpered slightly, laying his ear back, wondering if he would be disciplined in some manner.

Whether it was nerves or addrenaline causing his blood to pound in his ears, Koenshan could not be certain. As soundlessly as possible he slipped into possition, nudging the youngling to keep her in his sight. He paused occasionally to check the wind. It was still favorable to the plan. t least for the time being. He hoped it would stay that way. It would be hard enough bringing it down relatively alone, but the mixed resposibility of teaching & gyarding the cub raised the danger level. he would have to keep his wits to him... not rely so much on instinct. Great.
