I want to learn, but have no money or time for it right now.

Amazon has some

Ah, s**t.

I did not see this one... If the one I'm getting turns out to be crap, then maybe I'll invest in that one when I have the money.. crying

It's a shame you're not learning at the moment. Maybe you should just use online resources? I try to read up on Korean for around 20 minutes a day, make notes in a book, and then read it when I'm bored. biggrin

Also, I have a question.

What's the difference between using:

입니다 and 이에요?
갑니다 and 가요?

The first ones are more formal and the second ones are less, and by removing the yo on the end of those make it a little bit more less.(lol) But they all have the same meanings.

Thanks!

I have another question:

If I wanted to say 'it's raining', would I be correct in writing 비가 오다?

Also, when is it acceptable to use the -다 form of verbs?

I ended up getting both biggrin I'm going to go through the 'Teach Yourself Korean' first, then (hopefully) I would have already become comfortable, at least with the basics. I'll go through the intergrated Korean one afterwards, and reinforce it all. There's a whole load of them in the series though, if the first one turns out to be a really good buy (I haven't gone right through it yet) then I might invest in the rest of the series.

I'm slightly concerned about pronunciation though. I'd hate to go through 12 heavy volumes of text and not be understood by a Korean crying

Also:

Does anyone know where I can find the list of Hanja that Koreans get taught in South Korea? Thanks!

Although I'm probably talking to myself, the next step I'm going to take with my Korean learning (still working through "Teach Yourself Korean" - going slowly and studying a bit every day, after that, I'll move on to the other book) is by buying a good Korean dictionary, and a Hanja book I've seen on the internet with good reviews.

I think that since I'm fairly familiar with a good number of Hanja, and the Chinese reading is still quite similar to Chinese, it'll probably help me gain some vocabulary easier. It'll help me learn to write more Chinese too! smile

So yeah, I want to buy:

Rest of KLEAR (dunno for sure yet, I haven't been through the first one)
Another Korean learning book, with Audio
A Korean-English Dictionary
A Hanja guide
Then after that, I'll probably need some slightly more intermediate learning material - I'm still beginner I think.

I believe the KLEAR series goes through at least intermmediate. Tell me if you think it's any good. I'd like to use it if it is. biggrin

I can't find any CDs for listening compehension. xp I wish my college still offered Korean. I guess there wasn't enough interest around here even though we have a pretty big Korean population in the northern suburbs. This sucks. xp

Yeah, KLEAR goes to "High Advanced", but it's just that I'm not sure about it yet. I've only flicked through the first volume a few times, and it seems ok. No romanisation anywhere, though the example dialogues seem a bit dry. I'll get back to you when I've been through it.

I'm still teaching myself!! I'm pitifully poor even after having spent a fair amount of time trying to learn it. I think the pronunciation is well hard! I can read it, but not be able to pronounce it very well.

Btw, you missed out the 요 off 안녕하세요.

I use it with the 'Kimchi Girls' and "KoreanClass 101" podcasts

Yeah, I'm using Teach Yourself Korean. I think it's good and bad at the same time. They don't use enough Hangeul methinks... I also have the first volume of the KLEAR series, but it's in really good condition at the moment, and I keep on telling myself not to ruin it yet crying

The audio sounds reaaaally boring though (For TYK).

I thought you wanted to practice? sweatdrop

PS (to Vajra)

You don't like the look of Korean?! Blasphemy! 한글은 아주 좋아요!

And I didn't know you know Korean, Vajra... biggrin
