Hello. I'm really want to learn Chinese. I'm Chinese, but was adopted, so I don't know any of my native langauge. If anyone could teach me I would really appreciate it. Oh, heck I'd shower them with hugs! blaugh So basically I need a teacher, because the computer program I have just isn't working and they have absolutely no classes on Chinese, only Japanese. Well, I'm starting to blab, so if anyone could, I'd really really appreciate it.

As for dialect, Mandarin, if that's what you mean. I guess by basics you mean like "hi" (ni hao) "wassup?" (zen me yang) and "goodbye" (zaijian). Mostly in Mandarin, we just say "ni hao ma?" (Hi, how are you?) and reply when asked "hao de, ni ne?" (I am good, and you?). I think they are some really good websites on the links for Chinese Discussion you might want to check out and you can talk Mandarin with me (Wo hui shuo zhongwen, putonghua) anytime. I don't bite, much. ^_^

Hi, guys. I watched a movie in global studies class about China, and I found it VERY interesting...also Chinese is a good language for one to know because of the large population that speaks it. I admire the studious children in school. 3nodding It said that they had to memorize over 2000 or 3000 characters to learn the fundamentals of their own language! eek But anyway, I just wanted to know about the different dialects and how the characters and whatnot differs. Can anyone help me? smile

I'm no expert on Chinese, but here's what I know:
The dialects vary in the sense of the words etc. As far as I know, the characters (that are used to write) are the same in every dialect. ninja
