Small correction on the language families...While yes, they are all in the larger Germanic tree, English is on the northern branch with Swedish, Norwegian, and Icelandic, while German is on the Western branch. There is an Eastern branch as well, but no living language derives from it.

Bloodless Amber I'm taking the matriculation exam in English (SL) this Monday, and yesterday I found out the Ministry of Education considers words like "I'm", "you're", "he's" and such to be a grammatical error, and students who use them would get points off. Is it just me or is this really stupid? That's one of the most retarded things I've ever heard... Well, no, I've heard much worse.... but still, that's gotta be in the top 10. "I'm", "you're", etc are used A LOT in English, how do they expect you to learn English without knowing about our abbreviations/contraptions/whatever they're called? confused They're a huge part of the language.

Well, we do know that were taught to write like that. In fact, it's used in my English grammar book. I really don't understand this stupid rule.

We're allowed to use "you're" and all those, but there are special parts of the test where we arent, mainly because they want to see of you can split up the words in the original ones. I think it's fairly easy, but a lot of people in my english class dont. They still have problems with the difference between "are" and "is". Really annoying and I cant get A-level english until my third year and I'm only in my first. I want challenges for f*cks sake! gonk

I never was good at that stuff, but I'm darn good at speaking and writing languages, but ask my to analyse the sentence and I go question

But instead of being bored, I've gotten him to make a list of all future essay's and stuff to do, while he's trying to teach 10 of the other students how to spell 'vulnerability' and understand how an english comic is build, what the colors mean and... yeah, all the boring stuff I learned in 9th grade and have been doing in danish (native language for those of you who dont know/remember) but still know all the words in english. It's boring, but it keeps me occupied instead of sneaking my headphones into my ear and headbanging while he tries to slam some proper english into the idiots' heads...

Proudly current vocabulary word: inscrutibe - that cannot be searched into; incomprehensible
