mm...well, if we start at 13ish, then...you can't be a grandfather at 21. o__o

I think the best thing to do for children and grandchildren is that our character can have up to two children (one boy and one girl, in either order) and each of our children get married and have one child that stops aging at the child stage.
And our character is going to grey as he/she gets older. So...oh! Maybe....since the HM year is already pretty short, maybe we could somehow make hasten (ohgawsh, i feel like such a FF freak) the aging...as in, time goes by very quickly. so...that would make it easier to start off at a younger age and reach an older age.

So maybe something like this:
2 years as a child (8ish-16ish)
1 year of skipping (by the end you'd be about 20)
4 years as a young adult (20-35ish; in this time you would get married and have your first two children)
-probably right in here would be the skip period (of unnamed years) that would kick your kids into the young adult stage-
3 years as a middle-aged man/woman (50ish-60ish; by the end of this time period, you're greying and your kids are married and have one child each (boy and girl), named after you and your wife/husband)
+ infinity years (aka, however long you keep playing)

That sounds good! biggrin
But, for the 4 years in which you get married, how would we ensure that you get married? Would it be like in AWL where you're forced to get married at the end of the year if you're not already?

That was a problem that I was thinking of when I wrote that down, but I forgot to address it because I didn't have any ideas!! lol...

Ummm...that is sticky. How did AWL do it??

Maybe, you have three years to get your wife, but by the beginning of the fourth year, the girls/guys talk about their sweeties (sort of like a warning bell) and you have one year to win him/her back. Maybe. I still want to know how AWL did it, though. 3nodding

I think that in the pamphlet that you get with games (what is that called?) that there should be something about the 4 year period to get married.

But that's got me thinking, if we're doing 3 towns, maybe the marrying stage should be however long it takes you to marry that way you have a chance to go to all three towns and decide then. 3nodding

Do we actually have to include all the skips? I understand the skip after the grandfather's death (the two years thing would give you time to become old enough to start courting and marry so you're not getting married at fifteen or something ^^) but are the rest necessary? By not including more skips you could just have open ended play and, though it keeps track of your age, you could choose whether you wanted to marry at eighteen, twenty-eight, or thirty-eight- or if you want to marry at all. At some point though (maybe at the four year mark as you said) the girls could start marrying your rivals after asking you if there's any chance of being together- that's kind of how they did it on the N64 version when the guys asked how you felt about the respective girl and if you told them you were just friends they would move in on them- so that you still have the option of telling them you like them before they run off and marry someone else.

In AWL at the end of the year whichever girl you were closest with would come and pretty much propose if you hadn't already- if you said no then the game ended. crying

Unless you were aiming to make it so you didn't have to wait so long for your kid to grow up and have a kid of their own I kind of like the idea of not skipping and getting to watch them grow up all the way- hearing them talk for the first time, having to deal with the kid crying as a baby, things you usually don't get to experience in HM because they skip over it. Also this gives you time to watch the other villagers growing too- otherwise you would probably have to wait until you're married with children before they can have kids of their own (making the game keep track of ages that occur randomly after skips would be kind of crazy from my minimum knowledge).

Wow, that was a long response... hope it makes sense. ^^

Oh, and I like the medical bill idea- instead of taking away all the money however could we make it that you have a bill waiting to be paid off and you can either do it with the money you have at the beginning or raise the money if you don't have enough? I'll be honest, if I had worked hard to earn a good deal of money and then it was all taken away from me at the start of my farming career I would be pretty upset, but paying off a bill within the first year or something would be a bit nicer- you can choose to pay it off with the money immediately or raise it if you hadn't focused on making money originally.

Okay...edited version:

2 years as a child (8ish to 16ish)
1 year of skipping (by the end you'd be about 20)
4 years as a young adult (20-35ish; in this time you would (probably) get married and have your first two children. if you do not get married at the end of the third year, then we could do either a) have the girl propose to you (this would NOT end the game if you declined, cause that's lame) or b) find out from her rival and/or friend that she's interested and is going to move on unless you make a move)
*see note*
4 years as a middle-aged man/woman (50ish-60ish; by the end of this time period, you're greying and your kids are married and have one child each (boy and girl), named after you and your wife/husband)
+ infinity years (aka, however long you keep playing)

*Okay, so it really ticks me off when I have to play through everyday's monotony just to get to one event, so my main idea is to keep things short enough not to irritate people like me but long enough to satiate the wants of others like you (which is what I also want, I just show my frustration more xDD)
But I'm thinking that the children's (and grandchildren's) aging should go as thus:
1 season after you marry, you find out that you (or your wife) is preggers
2 seasons later you (or your wife) gives birth
2 seasons of crying/goo-gaaing baby (temperament depends on your spouse)
1 year as a child
2 years as a teen (which roughly sets your child's age to 16)
Once your child has gone through the two terrible years as a moody teenager, he/she is eligible to marry and go through the same process that you did.

I still don't like the idea of medical bills and I wish that those who like it would explain to me the novelty of it.

It just seems more real than saying that you spent no money on a dying man- meds add up even when you aren't dying. crying
It is a game so we don't have to be realistic, I just think it adds another challenge to the HM world. On top of that, since you potentially have three sources of income (yourself, your sister, and your mother) it shouldn't be too big of a problem to earn the money (unless we make it billions of dollars, which I would not consider a good idea) and it gives you a goal for the end of the year. Goals are good driving forces I've found. ^^

Hmm....so maybe....aha!
Maybe, your grandfather had accumulated a debt for meds over x amount of years and you have to a) work it off (by running meds to all of the old people in all three villages...maybe a timed mini game!! XD) or b) pay it off. biggrin

Is that good?

Or we can mix drugs in the sink! Just kidding! But if you're going to do voices, i don't know who's in the game, but it should go something like this:

nami/Kurt: Whatever.
Martha: take care dear!
Nina/Celia/Popori: Tee hee hee!
Gwen: Hey you!

Sorta like that.

That sounds good to me, especially the 'mini game' of running errands to pay off your medical bills. ^^

xp...only downside is no facesets..but we can fix that for the ds version..and is there a way to fix it on xp? also, i can't check the site right now because i am running low on time and i barley had enough to get on here and read everything really quick.. (i kinda skimmed it so if i missed something im sorry) dramallama im really busy right now

everyone else: i like cereah's idea about not being timed or having so many skips ahead and such..we should probably go with that..and also i'd say the bills should be quite large, since they wont be payed off right? that is what we decided? anyway i dont think it would matter how old your grampa is you'd still do everything you could to save him.. surprised he would be like a parent figure more than a grandparent in this situation, correct?

Oh...about that, I'm sorry. I was a little insensitive, or rather a bit narrow-minded. You see, when my organs start failing me, I don't want to be kept alive with a bunch of expenses, so yours is a viewpoint that I'm not really familiar with, seeing as how most of my family feels the same. :

Right. That is why I altered it. xp
