Silver couldn't help rolling her eyes in disgust. Well, this had been a waste of time... She hadn't even had a chance to draw her sword... She shook her head at the thieves' foolishness. Whenever things like this happened, she thanked whatever celestial being was looking out for her that Blue Falcon had taught her, otherwise she may have ended up like this poor sap. With her ever-present limp, she walked ahead of Blade and Doina, looking back over her shoulder. "Make up your mind whether to heal him or not and let's keep moving," she said shortly. "I don't want to stick around for the darkness spawn, and this is the kind of thing that can make us late for getting through Hightide Pass."
She didn't care if she came across as a little cold as she spoke; she hadn't been that far up from this kid's place when she left her village the first time considering her... conditions, both her leg and another that had faded already. With his sort, either they learned or they died. There wasn't an in-between. This kid seemed to be the surviving kind. As a result, Silver kept a grip on the hilts of her swords. The intricate silver dragons curving around cresent moons was a difficult and rare design, one only a handful of elven smiths knew. Hers were family heirlooms, or else even she wouldn't have them. Her boot dagger was much more simple, and was easily replaced if he did take it, and she doubted he would reach for what was seemingly an ornament that matched her swords in her hair, for fear of actually losing his hand, an action she wouldn't hesitate to act on, seeing as the piece was another heirloom. Silver eyed the sun at this point, checking on time. She tended to stop about an hour before the sun completely set, allowing time for her to set up a temporary camp for the night. She wanted to be at least another mile away before they stopped though...

Grenth laughed at Blade’s words, but said nothing, as Blade was already talking to Doina. Elves, Grenth had found out several years ago, almost always had something to talk to each other about. Many, maybe most, elf towns and villages were run differently and had different traditions, rituals, etc. This allowed for long conversations (or arguments) about pretty much anything, even the nature of magic, something most people had given up trying to figure out. He listened to the music Doina and Blade made together, bobbing his head a bit to the rhythm as they traveled. When they stopped, Blade said something in that wonderful language of her adopted people, and Grenth strained to hear. Recently he’d started paying attention when people spoke it in an attempt to learn how to communicate with some of the more distant and isolated elf villages.
What he managed to understand was, “"
A confused look formed on his face as he attempted to understand the relatively complex language. He only got a few words out of it all, and they barely made sense. Of course, the only part of the language that he knew well were the curses and the names of about fifty various spirits and deities. Anyone who knew him could tell you how he learned these things, too. Women sometimes moaned (or screamed) things during the time he spent with them, and after hearing those things enough he’d come to understand their meaning.
He half-listened as Blade spoke about her old village. This would be the fourth time he’d heard it, and most stories stopped being interesting by that point. They’d traveled alone for the first couple of weeks after they met, and all they could really do to pass the time was talk. He’d suggested other things, but that didn’t go over too well with her. They’d been traveling into an area he wasn’t familiar with at the time, so he couldn’t teleport there, and her ability to teleport people was conditional. So about a week and a half later, they knew each other’s backstories fairly well.
The hair on his neck stood up suddenly. Ahead, the elves were talking, and Grenth could feel the tension between them. He was a mere human, and so could not hear every little snapping twig or rustling leaf, but he liked to think that his instincts were pretty damn good, and they were telling him that something was in the back. The others calm enough, and Blade had her sword out, which almost always meant trouble. Still, Grenth had to laugh a little. The swords always seemed a bit too big for her, despite her masterful handling of the weapons. He left his sword where it was. There was no reason to let the followers know that the group was aware of them, if they didn’t already know.
They continued on briefly, until one of the people following them leaped out at Blade and the leader of the spawnhunting group did one of the things she did best. She kicked a**. Or, in this case, face. She kicked face. Just as good, really.
There was a lot of yelling after that as their hidden followers fled and one, the leader, Grenth assumed, came out asking for bandages. What a lame fight. He’d been expecting some sort of showdown between the recently formed party and a group of bloodthirsty bandits. Instead, he’d gotten a bunch of wimps with swords pretending they were badass. It was a shame. Blade handled the aftermath very well, though, threatening them several times in a single breath. She even went so far as to summon fire. He whistled appreciatively and got a bit closer. The leader, a mere boy, did not seem to really know about the spawn. Where was he from and how can I get there, Grenth wondered.
“Oh well,” He said out loud, to no one in particular. “Might as well take this opportunity…” Grenth ran to the nearest tree and pushed off of it so that he could get some good air. One moment he was there, and the next he wasn’t. “Boo!” He yelled, coming out in the air just above the injured man. Was it unnecessary now that the man was already scared? Yes. Would the man piss his pants? Quite possibly. Was it hilarious? Definitely. Grenth teleported away again before he hit the ground and came out at Blade’s side, barely able to keep his balance. He’d come out a little low on that last one.
“Get yourself a better job than thief, kid. I’ve tried it. Nearly had my thumb cut off, y’know.”

A foul smell filled the air.
"Oh gross, you...you pissed in your pants?" He looked down at the scared guy on the ground (Yes, let's all pick on the NPC...), a disgusted look on his face.
"But damn, that was pretty cool what you did there! It was like...teleporting or something, pretty damn fast."
"Yeah, sure...we'll leave you alone after this...I might travel around, see the world, battle some guys with girly hair and swords so long that it looks like they're compensating for something. But I might need a party..."
He gave the group an interested look, before stepping back a little in order to get some privacy while he talked to himself.
"Should I try and party up with these guys? They seem kind of cool."
He turned his head left.
"I don't know, I wouldn't want to bother them...they wouldn't want to waste their time with someone like us..."
His head turned right.
"Hey, there might be a situation where they need a thief."
Left.
"Why would they need a thief?"
Right.
"All parties on an Apocalyptic level party need a token thief. Its like in the "How to Party" rulebook."
Left.
"And what makes you think they're on an Apocalyptic Final Fantasy like quest?"
Right.
"Well those spawn things sound kinda creepy...and notice how quiet they went on the subject. They're obviously very bad. Like so bad they make my past of thievery, murder and...certain women.... look good."
Left.
"Oh right her, she was pretty good. I never knew you could use curtains like that..."
Right.
"Yeah I was a little scared about her at first, cause of the rumors. On one hand she's a demon in bed and can last ages. On the other hand, she's a demon in bed and can last ages. Hoo boy."
The conversation degraded after that.

((See what happens? I leave for a day and a half and the thread explodes! razz Time to play a little catchup.))
Seraphis readied himself for the fight, incants to various spells practically dripping from his lips. The half elf didn't want to shed any blood, unless it was the blood of a spawn, but a threat was a threat and he was prepared to meet it head on.
And, just like that, the fight was over. Seraphis assumed a more relaxed stance, leaning on his staff, as he watched the exchange between Blade and the remaining thieves. He chuckled when Blade mentioned something about his eyes. He actually knew a couple of spells that were transferred through a gaze. He turned a confused eye toward the child that seemed to be leading the party. What a strange person! What sort of cracked mentality would cause someone to spew forth such obscure, nonsensical references? He shook his head and turned his gaze to Silver as she spoke of moving on.
"She's right, Blade," he said, turning to the fighter, "We don't have much time to spare if we want to reach the pass before winter comes to it in force." Suddenly Grenth appeared out of nowhere, flinging himself over the injured bandit and straight toward Seraphis. Startled, he stumbled backward and muttered a curse under his breath as Grenth disappeared. He then turned his attention toward the child who seemed to be having a conversation with......himself? He was muttering something about joining their band. Seraphis looked at Blade as if to say, 'Your party... Your decision.' Shaking his head hopelessly, he shrugged and moved to stand a little closer to Silver. As much as they needed all the help they could get, he didn't think it would be wise to invite a cracked bandit to join their little group.

((Welcome to my world!))
Once again, Silver rolled her eyes, this time at Grenth's antics. She never understood the need to pick on kids, even if they were thieves... Then again, maybe that was her own experience talking... Anyway, she was tempted to scare the hell out of him in retaliation, but she tabled the idea for now. She shifted her weight anxiously, her mind already turning over possible scenerios if they let the thief join them, most of them not good. She finally muttered, "If he joins us, I'm never going to sleep easy..." Not mentioning that she slept that well anyway when she was on her own, seeing as she had to keep an eye out for trouble the entire time. In a group, she tended to sleep better only if there were other capable fighters. When they had joined this group, she thought this may have been her chance to catch up on rest after several weeks of uneasy sleep, but now it seemed that wasn't going to be the case. Letting out her current breath with a puff in annoyance, she became severely tempted to move ahead and use trail markers for the others to follow.

It seemed like Silver was getting annoyed with their delay as she watched other woman continue on. Doina made up her mind that since they had stopped she may as well go ahead and heal the person. Doina took her bag off her shoulder and looked through it, searching for a little brown bottle. Taking that out she slipped it into her pocket. She turned her head to look over at Grenth as he spoke up. He disappeared again and Doina wondered where he would appear. She got her answer as Grenth scared the man and the man proceeded to let his bladder loose.
Doina wrinkled her noise at the sight and smell and sighed as she walked over to him. She had healed under worse conditions. Back in her village she had been asked to take care of a neighbor’s sick child as his parents went off to work. It had been going pretty well, he stayed mostly asleep and Doina only had to bring him something to eat and drink a few times. But when she went to alleviate some of his discomfort and cool his fever he had gotten sick all over her. Doina couldn’t even look at a bowl of soup for a week after that, but she got over that incident so she could deal with this smell.
‘But I’m not sure if pee is worse than vomit.’
She asked for his hand and when it was given she flexed it a bit and took the brown bottle out of her pocket. Uncorking it she looked down at the hand, her eyes narrowed in concentration.
“This will sting a little bit, but its to disinfect the wound. I like to clean the cut before healing it, so any future infections can be eliminated.” she said before pouring a small amount on the wound.
It was like an oil and it had a sharp almost mint scent to it. It was one of her many little ointments and salves she used. Some would say that healing magic was enough but Doina had been taught that nothing was without its flaws. It was better to be safe and treat injuries with magical and non-magical ways then to just treat it one way and be open to a worse illness. She capped the bottle again and stuck it into her pocket before channeling her energy into her finger tips. She ran her finger tips down the wound, spreading the oil and closing the skin back up.
As she healed his companion she listened to the rants of the other guy. Her brow rose and as the conversation went on she finally closed her ears to it. There was something really wrong with that kid. Finished with her healing she got up and pulled out a handkerchief from her other pocket, wiping the excess oil from her hands. If she would have heard Silver she would have agreed with her.
“I’m finished now. Keep an eye on that hand for any signs of infections. And try to keep it clean.” she said to the man on the ground as she walked back over to the group.
“I think we should go before our guide decides to leave us.” she said to Blade with a nervous smile.

{{This post is for you, Doom.}}
"Oi, come on princess." Blade closed her hand shut, destroying the fire, and wrapped an arm around Doina's shoulders. "Don't worry about them. It's just a cut on the hand. As long as he has more than just cobwebs in his attic he'll be fine."
Blade snickered at Grenth's action, although Grenth had also scared Seraphis. She let go of Doina and instead wrapped an arm around Grenth's. "We're both just two bullies. Come with me, Grenth! We shall teach the world the ways of our assholery! Ah-ha-haa!"
She now looked over at their other half-elf party members, nodding. "Right on it! And you," she looked over at the bandit, releasing Grenth's captive arm. "I'm not going to stop you if you follow us but none of us are going to baby sit you." With that said Blade turned herself and walked away, speeding up to remeet with the man that had gone on ahead. She slowed down once she was beside him and the other female and stretched. "Well, that was amusing." She had had her "ha-ha" of the day. Aside from taking all of that money from those men at the bars. She scratched the side of her head, shifting the grip she had on her sword. "Well then, let's get moving." There was no sense in letting them stay too long after they'd just had about ten minutes of walking. Everyone else had seemed to have forgotten about the shadow spawn. Better than remembering. Blade couldn't forget- she still had the soft humming of its power vibrating through her bones. It wasn't painful like it usually was. The shadow spawn was too far away to give her bodily grief. Instead it was almost refreshing, soothing her muscles and helping her to relax yet still stay alert. If only her magic was always like this.
"It'll be quite a walk to our destination," Blade stated, her voice losing its humor and turning more serious. "My suggestion is that we make just one stop at a town and skip that stop if we can. We're not exactly leaving on the best times to get to the northern mountains. And we should lay off on the hunting." While hunting made for better meals and gave more energy it also wasted energy, not to mention time. And hopefully the wind spawn would actually be there when they arrived. Blade had once traveled about a month to a destination only to find that the spawn had JUST left. That, to say at the least, had done more than just piss her off. Even if she was able to maintain a reasonable amount of money spawn hunting was not a cheap occupation. Constant moving, no steady job, and having to buy everything for yourself instead of just making it created a toll on one's wallet. Not to mention medical fees and taxes that one would have to pay while buying something.
"Silver, I'll leave you to guide our group as you're the one who knows the area best. So, you'll be in the front." Blade looked over at the half-elf, nodding somewhat to herself. "Doina, Grenth! You listening? Seraphis and Doina: I want you two to stay in the center of the group. Grenth and Ebon! You boys and I will be outside of the group. We don't have to stay in this exact formation, but it's best to keep the physical fighters outside to protect the magicians in the middle and the person who actually knows where they're going in the front for everyone to follow. Any objections or suggestions? Also, I'm leaving it up to you three elves to listen for any danger that might come up to attack us from behind."

"Oi! They left with out me!"
Scrambling up a tree quickly, he jumped up onto a branch and leant down at the healed man at the bottom.
"See ya later than! Go back to camp and get a change of pants or something! Burn the pants, the smell of burning urine is brilliant in the morning." It was hard to tell if he was joking or not.
"W-what are you doing up there"
"Oh I just reckon it'll be easier to follow em up here...at least till we get out of the forest. You can have my crap, I don't need it anymore"
"What about the money? And weapons? And money?"
"Oh keep the money, don't need it. As for weapons I have everything I need right here"
"You're carrying a dagger and a rock."
"Hey yeah...left my bow at the camp...I'm sure they're easy to make...maybe pull out some of my hair and use it as string..."
"You're insane, what're going to eat?"
There was a small rustle of leaves as the young thief disappeared. Seconds later an empty birds nest fell to the ground followed by a few acorns.
Silence.
"H-hey! Those are baby birds there! You don't kill baby birds! Hey!"
No reply.
"He's gone already?"
With that, the now healed man waddled away, cursing his poor bladder control.

Seraphis nodded to Blade as she assigned formation positions, indicating his understanding. It was a good plan for he was hardly equipped to fight anyone at close range. He had no idea how to wield a sword and was just as likely to lop off one of his own legs as damage an opponent. He walked in silence with the rest of the group for a while, his thoughts, once again, turning inward. Part of him was slightly disappointed that he hadn’t been assigned to walk nearer to Silver. It was almost as if she had a pull on him, beckoning him to draw nearer. He hadn’t felt like this in a very long time... Not since Burenna... And there was the other part of him. The part that was relieved that he was away from Silver. Relieved, because he would not have to deal with his conflicting emotions right now. It was so much easier to keep it all buried. Shaking his head, he shifted his thoughts to the task ahead. The task that had driven him forward for the past seven years. Hunting the spawn.
Seraphis felt a strong mixture of anticipation, anger and fear and it caused him to shake a little, though it was barely visible. He was eager to get the whole business over with, to exact his revenge and be done with it all. However, he had never fought one of the spawn. Naturally, he had combat experience after coming this far. In these times few roads were safe and he had to defend himself. He detested killing other humans, elves, dwarves and the other varied races of this world, but there were times when it was necessary. He shuddered at the thought. Still, they were nothing compared to the stories he had heard about the spawn. In his travels, Seraphis had attempted to gather all the information he could about the various spawn. He had heard tales from others who had hunted the spawn and learned a great deal about how to fight them. But the tales of others were far removed from actual experience and he knew it. It didn’t help that he hadn’t heard much about how to fight the Wind Spawn. He suddenly noticed that his shaking was becoming slightly more violent and decided to stop thinking about it. If there was one thing he did know, it was that reducing yourself to a bundle of nerves before a fight would spell your doom.
“Mistress Diona, is it?” Seraphis said, deciding to mingle with the companion beside him, “You played your flute beautifully earlier. I couldn’t help but notice traces of magic within the notes. Tell me, where did you learn such a skill?”

((I second that motion!))
Silver sighed and agreeably took the lead. Her ears twitched as she processed all the sounds around her, doing as Blade asked. She was practically a professional hired sword; these tasks were old and familiar. It gave her time to think of what awaited her when she went home...
The elves stared at her as she walked down the streets, many struggling to hide disgust...
Shaking her head, she felt like snarling at the memories. It hadn't been something she could help at the time! She understood why it made people uneasy, but the way it felt still burned. Now, the ailment had long since faded, but she was still reluctant to return to the village, even to visit her mother's grave. Hell, she had only been back once before, and that was when Tidal began his attacks. She had known what that had meant, and had hurried to Red Raven's side before it was too late. Unfortunately, she had been exactly that. Perhaps that was why her heart still hurt when she thought of her mother, of her childhood, or of her old home. She never got the chance to say good-bye, and her parting words had been so harsh, so long ago...
"How dare you tell me what I can and cannot do! You're the one who did this to me! Your actions are why I'm like this!"
Closing her eyes, Silver took a moment to forget her hurtful words to her mother, though she had a feeling they would always haunt her. Once sure that she wouldn't do something humiliating, she continued to lead the way down the road, her steps sure if a little reluctant.

Blade pulled Doina away and the elf sighed in relief as the situation came to an end. She laughed as Blade wrapped an arm around Grenth and joked with him a bit. She speed up to catch up with the rest of group, taking a glance back at the two thieves they left behind. Would the kid follow them? She was a bit mixed about that. As she caught up with them she returned a normal walking speed, keeping her ears out for anything. Hopefully they wouldn’t have anymore interruptions like that.
As Blade spoke, she noticed that her tone grew more sober and she set her hearing to listen closely to the other woman. Doina would have liked to stop at the town but it was up to the others and the time frame they would fine themselves in. When she had looked through her bag, she found that she was running a little low on a certain herb. While it wasn’t anything major, it could be used as a substitute herb for different ointments and salves.
Doina raised her head from her thinking position when she heard her name. She nodded as Blade talked about the formation and moved herself from the back to the middle, next to Seraphis. She didn’t have any objections, she saw the reasoning in Blade’s plan. This would benefit her as a healer as well, she could easily get to everyone else in the group if they had any injuries. She nodded as Blade asked her, Silver and Seraphis to keep their ears out for anything.
She turned towards Seraphis as he spoke to her. She believed that this was the first time he spoke to her.
“It’s Doina, actually. Thank you for the compliment. I suppose you would notice the traces of magic, huh? I learned it from my former master, Lady Blodeuwedd. She was a medical master and one of Arianrhod’s greatest magicians.”
Channeling through an instrument was supposed to be a teaching method for summoning. Blodeuwedd had said it was easier to draw spirits from nature through music. The notes appealed to their senses and made them a bit more cooperative. She had just started this training for a month when Tidal came along and Blodeuwedd was no more.
“What you heard was only the very first stages of a summoning technique. But I’m afraid I don’t have the proper training to complete it.”
The most she could do right now was use it for her healing and maybe immobilizing others for brief moments. She would have liked to continue her training, but she hadn’t had the time to seek out another master. And a part of her wanted Lady Blodeuwedd to remain as her only master.

A quiet breeze blew through the trees communicating its soft whispers through the rustling of the trees. A small girl was walking through the trees weaving in and out humming some sort of tune to herself. Skipping all the while she appeared to have a destination some where outside of these tall trees and didn’t seem to be too concerned with the coming night fall. While she was walking she spotted something rather peculiar a group of cats and kittens sitting around a tree. Each of the felines was mewing like crazy and scratching at the tree bark trying to either climb up or get something to come down. Instead of heading the strange sign the small girl walked towards all the animals and blinked.
“What’s wrong little one’s? Is there something stuck up there?” At this some of the cats turned their heads and stared at the girl as if she were some foreigner. Blinking their slanted eyes they soon lost interest in this new attraction and continued with what they were doing before. The little girl laughed and sighed.
“Well I guess I’ll just have to get it down for you won’t I?” Smiling she glanced up into the tree. Suddenly her eyes grew very wide. Her mouth dropped open and it looked as if she wanted to scream but had temporarily lost the ability to make sound. Up in the tree was a Ferriles, a young one at that, she was rather short in stature for a Ferriles but her limbs were definitely awkward looking like they were supposed to be. Her body was covered with a layer of almost pure white fur and instead of hands and feet she had paws. Her green eyes were slanted the way most cat’s are and her nose was more pink than normal. Upon her head sat shoulder length pale pink hair tied into low pig tails with beautiful silk ribbons and upon her hair she had a pair of large white cat ears that would twitch every now and again. The small girl found that she was wearing strange apparel with a white robe with red lining kept in place by a large red sash tied in a bow. The Ferriles up in the tree did not wear shoes and her pants were rather puffy and a darker shade of red than the border but not much darker. The Ferriles up in the tree crouching on a branch on all four now tilted her head and craned her neck to get a better look at the new comer.
“Hello?” She said in a soft tone. “What’s your name? My name is Chi.” Strangely this child was not soothed as easily as they were back in her village. Obviously this one had never seen a Ferriles before. Sticking her pink nose in the air, Chi snorted. “Well aren’t you a talkative on-” But before she could finish speaking the little girl turned around and ran. Chi listened and could hear her gain her voice back and scream as she ran. Her screams echoed in Chi’s ears and Chi shook her head. “Well I’ll be.” Moving from her initial position she jumped into another tree and looked down at the felines that were following her. “You guys are giving me away! Just because I kind of smell like one of you does not mean that I am!” Cossing her arms Chi sighed. “Cats . . . what are we supposed to do with them?” Her left ear twitched in aggravation. “Soon they’re going to send some kind of team to beak the evil ‘spawn’ that attacked the small child. But little do they know that it is just a Ferriles. So they are going to bring all their heavy casters and their magic will bother my nose.” She turned around and lightly hit her head against the tree. “This is a wonderful disaster.”
Her ear twitched again. Maybe they had one prepared already. . .I can hear footsteps in the distance. Can’t tell how many from here but if I get closer I can make more of an estimate. Of course it just so happened that the screaming girl ran in the same direction as whatever party or group of people was present. “ Oh lucky me…” she said with a hint of sarcasm and a roll of the eyes. She started to leap through the trees with relative ease, feeling the wind through her fur and her heart beat. The group of cats followed her below mewing and meowing trying to get her attention. Sighing she just allowed them to follow though she knew it would be easier to identify something odd if a large group of cats was surrounding a tree. The passing thought I guess I’ll just have to get rid of them later crossed her mind but slowly faded away as all the trees blended together and the rhythmic jumping from tree to tree took over her body.

Silver winced, covering her ears, when loud screaming echoed down the road. What the hell...? She glowered in the direction of the screaming, not surprised when a small child came running down the road. Catching the girl's elbow as she ran past, she whirled her around, clapping her hand over the little one's mouth. "I'm an elf. Loud noises bother me," she said, her tone practically subarctic. Stunned into silence, the little girl nodded her head, her eyes wide and bright with fear. "Now, if I release you, will you be still and tell us what the ruckus is all about?" Again, the little girl nodded. Silver removed her hand to let her speak.
"Ferriles!" she gasped out. "There's a Ferriles back there!"
The female half-elf rolled her eyes, uncaring. She hadn't ever met a Ferriles before, but neither had she ever desired to. "And you began screaming because...?" she asked sarcastically, her tone dry and still cold, "A Ferriles won't hurt you. In fact, you probably caused more harm by screaming that way. Ferriles have more sensitive ears then even elves."
The little girl's mouth fell open in disbelief at her words, even as Silver released her elbow and continued to walk. "Well aren't you going to do anything?" the little girl demanded. The half-elf didn't even pause to answer. What concern was it to her if a Ferriles was in the area?

Her ears twitched and she grimaced as a scream tore through the air. She was instantly on her guard and she wondered if the other two elves heard the scream. She saw Silver look in one direction and waited to see what it was when a small child ran out. She was a little surprised at how Silver was treating the child. As the two were talking Doina made her way to the front of the group, next to Silver.
"Ferriles!" she gasped out. "There's a Ferriles back there!"
“Really?” she blurted out as she looked at the little girl.
She had never seen one before but her brother had told her that he saw one. He gave this whole story about how he and the other warriors in training were practicing in the mountains that surrounded the village’s valley. They were heading down for a break when he swore that the group saw a Ferriles. They said it was a female, it’s fur was gray with a few stripes of white. They saw it for about maybe a few seconds before it sped off, to the higher mountain ranges. Other accounts of this story had a few more facts added and some of them ended up being the most lewd of things. So she wasn’t sure if her brother did see one.
“Don’t be so tough on her Silver. It’s understandable if she’d be surprised by one.”
She looked over towards the girl and gave her a small smile.
“But my friend here is right. I don’t think the Ferriles you saw back there will do anything. Maybe just stay out of that area for a little bit? Why the Ferriles probably isn’t there anymore.”

Seraphis glanced at Silver after she had rebuked the child. He thought that she was being a bit harsh toward her, but he could understand it. Her homeland was in probable danger and they couldn't afford any distractions. Especially not something as benign as the sighting of a ferriles. They were largely a harmless race, of course there were always exceptions. But if this one was a marauder, Seraphis was certain that this little girl would not have found their little group at all.
Suddenly, Seraphis noticed a distinct smell in the air. It was an odd smell, quite out of place on a woodside path.
"Sulfur," Seraphis whispered to himself, "No... Brimstone..." It was then when he heard a low growl to his side. He slowly turned his head in the direction of the noise and could scarce believe what he saw.
Standing about twenty five yards away from him was a lupine form. It looked like a hound of some sort, but the resemblances were few. It was a mottled beast, missing patches of fur and flesh here and there. In the place of paws, there were what could only be described as large, flaming, four toed claws who's only imaginable use could be to rend flesh. In its clenched maw resided elongated, razor sharp teeth, dripping with a sulfurous fluid. The creature leaned back on its haunches as if it were about to strike, letting out a few loud barks which were accentuated by small bouts of flame emerging from its mouth. There was no mistaking the identity of this creature. It could only be the-
"Fire Spawn!" Seraphis shouted, alerting his comrades to the creature's presence. Once again, he called the incants of his spells to the fore of his mind, preparing for a fierce battle.
