RP Log

Vasile tried to focus his thoughts as the village approached. He didn't know why, given his current, ah .. "condition", he felt so torn between Cass and Ambrose. Mostly, he figured, Ambrose would be a more sympathetic ear. Going up to Cass and bragging about how he was offered "the best head" ever and having the will power to say no (barely) just didn't really strike him as romantic.

That WOMAN. Vasile kicked the dirt in frustation. How dare she have the gall to call him a CHILD just because he didn't sleep with her even though his body obviously did. Of course his body did. It had been -far too long- since Vasile has been with anyone. ANYONE making the wild claims she was making would turn him on. Hell, he wasn't exactly a supermodel...tatoos weren't his thing, and she even smoked. All that prooved to him was that he was getting desperate.

Vasile paused to take the gift he was making for her out of the bad hanging from his side. He took a deep breath and fixed the last little add-on to it, and then headed over towards Cass's duplex. He knocked on the door and ran a hand though his hair, hoping he didn't look too ragged.

Cassidy had just returned from a bit of walk, and hadn't yet taken off the prosthetics; she'd just been starting to. But with the knock, she hastily undid that and hobbled over to the door. She flung it open, and grinned broadly when she saw Vasile.

How long had it been since she'd looked him in the eye?

"Look at this! I finally figured out my prosthetics!" she laughed, flung her arms around him, and kissed him on the cheek.

Vasile was a bit surprised to see her looking him in the eye, and he gave a broad smile. She took him in his arms and he readily holding her to him. Her scent filled his nose and he turned his head to nuzzle at her neck. Yes, this was definately a better choice than Ambrose's palce.

"That's great!" he said, pushing her gently back so he could come in but not break from the embrace. "Merry Christmas," he finally got out, remembering he hadn't seen her since the holiday.

She laughed. "Merry Christmas, and happy New Year," she returned, beaming. Cass let him come in, her tail twitching. "I'm afraid I was being all... antisocial, during the holidays," she admitted. "I got sort of depressed, you know. I've been feeling better though. How have you been doing?"

Vasile was hesitant to let her go, so he made sure to keep hold of her hand and stand close. He liked being able to look at her eye to eye. "Yeah, its depressing to think how long we've been here... but I guess things are starting to settle in"

He reached in his bag and pulled out a little.. thing made from seashells. Several of them glued together to resemble something like an alien. "I know it looks like a third-grader made it, but I haven't given gifts without the help of Barney's since, well, I was in third grade."

Cassidy took it from him, grinning. "It's lovely," she said, quite geniunely. "It's perfect. Thank you so much, Vasile." For a moment, she just held it in her hands, turning it over in absolute delight; then, with the greatest care, she placed it on the bookshelf in a place of honour, or what was relatively a place of honour. "I'm impressed you managed to make anything out of seashells. I don't think I could."

"Believe it or not, I have a creative streak. I went into acting for more than just the money." He was grinning from ear to ear, happy she liked it. Once the fragile figure was safely on the shelf he pulled her to him and into a passionate kiss. There was definately a hunger to him today, though he wasn't pushing, his hands were almost shaking from the frustration and desire bubbling underneith the surface.

Cass let him kiss her, though her eyes went wide with surprise. She pulled back a bit, looking a bit puzzled. To attempt to ease her own nervousness, she tried a small joke: "Well, um. I know it's been a little while, Vasile, but..." She let out a small, nervous giggle and shook her head, half at herself.

Vasile cleared his throat apologetically as she pulled away. "I'm sorry," he mumbled, but looped his hands back around her waist, not letting her get away too far. "I'm just happy to see you."

"No, no. Don't be sorry." Cassidy smiled at him, and her tongue flickered. She just didn't know what to do with Vasile... her few romances, such as they were, had been so very unlike this. She took a breath, and plunged right in. "I'm sorry. I just... I get so nervous, and I don't know what I'm doing at all, and I... I always knew I was rather avoidant."

She gave herself a slight shake and buried her face in the curve of Vasile's neck.

Vasile let a grin curve over his lips as he held her. "I think you know more than you think," he admitted, stroking her back. "And you're certaintly doing a lot of things right." So many things were flying through his head right now, it took all his might to keep his attention on the conversation.

"Well, thank you," she mumbled into his neck. "But I don't think I believe you." She put her arms around him and squeezed, anyway.

Vasile moved her over the bed and sat down, keeping her to him. "I could proove it to you," he purred out, learning in to kiss at her neck. He felt down right predatory, something he hadn't felt in a quite some time... not since he knew he could have anyone he ever wanted and not have to worry about consequences.

"I suppose you could," Cassidy squeaked. Unbidden, the softest hint of a hiss slipped from her lips. "I'd, um... I think I'd like that..."

Vasile felt his ears and tail p***k up happily at Cass's response. Trying to just keep himself from just throwing her down and having his way with her, he took a deep breath and layed her down gently on the bed. He prayed to whatever gods would listen that Cass wouldn't cop out of him halfwin. He felt like he would go insane.

He leaned over her and kissed alittle at her neck, when a nagging thought came to him. "You have... before, haven't you?"

"Um, no," Cass admitted after a pause that was a little too long for her liking. "I haven't. None of the others ever... well... it never got that far." She would have blushed if it would have shown through her scales. "But... I do," she whispered, "I do want to."

A sting of nervousness raced down Vasile's spine. Virgins made his nervous. Very nervous. He'd never been with a virgin, ever. His first time was with a nineteen year old model when he was fifteen, and she definately was more experienced than he was.

Oh... but she said she wanted to. But was she sure? He really didn't want to mess this up -now-...

Oh hell, it was too late. Vasile quickly found hismelf not caring. "Just let me know if I do anything you don't like," he disclaimed. Vasile made a silent vow to himself to make this his best performance -ever,- even by his standards, as he leaned over and pulled her into a deep kiss.

That night, at 3am on the dot, there is a LOUD sound of an explosion, originating from the sky above the Island. Looking out, or anyoune outside would look up to see a brief fireball in the sky. Following that, any power that is on begins to flicker, going through a few brownouts before finally shutting down altogether. If you happen to be awake at that point - you would notice all the lights around you, any electronic equipment that wasn't battery operated flicker and die. However, within a few seconds of the final powersurge and failure, you find yourself being pulled into a forced unconsciousness.

When you wake up, it is midafternoon the following day, though it would vary within a few hours depending on the individual. You are NOT in your duplex. You wake up to find yourself laying on a thick branch of a tree deep in the forest, very high up.

All of the buildings on the island are in 'shutdown' mode. This means that everything is locked tight. If you attempt to force your way into any of the buildings, your own duplex and the Town Hall included, then you will find that from the outside at the very least, they are impenetrable. If any window was broken - it is now fixed. All of the lights are off - in every building. Even the electric fence surrounding the main laboratory is turned off - though still closed. Attempts to break into the main complex will be met with equal lack of luck as breaking into a duplex or the town hall.

The only items you have on you are the items that you would have been wearing when you were asleep/fell unconscious: including clothing and perhaps a few battery-powered electronics IF You would have been wearing them. That's it. Everything else is where you left it - if it was in your duplex, it still is and you can't get to it.

There is no sign of what happened to the staff. The labs are quiet from the outside.

Welcome to the Wild.

She was aware, first, that her legs were dangling, and second, that she had apparently lost her blanket. Cassidy made a sleepy attempt to roll back into the bed and find the blankets that she'd lost. Possibly Vasile had them.

Hee.

However, she quickly pulled back when there was nothing on that side but empty air, as well.

And come to think of it, it sure didn't feel like her bed underneath her.

Cassidy opened her eyes all the way, saw the ground many many feet below her, and nearly had a heart attack.

She was sprawled face-down over a branch in some massive tree, arms and legs dangling on both sides, and her tail wrapped tightly around the bough of its own accord.

She was also completely naked, and without her prosthetic legs.

What had happened? There had been... Vasile... and... some sort of loud noise that had woken her up. And...

It didn't make sense.

Cassidy shook herself. It was too much to have to look straight down. Slowly, she got up, her tail and legs wrapped around the branch tightly, and got herself into a sitting position, with her back against the trunk.

Okay.

Just... don't look down.

Some small voice in the back of her head reminded her of what her serum had actually been. Green. Tree. Python.

.... what the freaking hell was wrong with these doctors? They couldn't just... stick her up in a tree randomly. How had they got her up here, anyway?

Cass inhaled. Okay. She needed clothes, and her legs or her chair, and a meal. First thing, though, was to get down.

.... oh, <********>.

RP Log

Cassidy had, after some time, managed to get herself down a few branches. It was slow work, since she really only had her fingers to grip with, though her tail had proved to be more useful than she would have expected.

The ground was still an awful long way down, though.

She inhaled, and tried not to look. "I can do this," she told herself, only half-believing. "Oh, god. I'm going to be stuck up here forever."

Vasile slowly floated to consciousness that afternoon. Before his eyes fluttered open, he lifted his hand to cover his eyes, where a ray of bright sunlight was filtering through the trees onto his face.

Wow, he must have slept in late.

Something slick and sticky dripped onto his face from his arm. What the hell did we do last night. Then the scent filled his nose and his eyes shot open.

That was NOT the smell of Cass or the reminants of any activity they had been involved in. No...Vasile woke up to find himself covered in mud.

"What the hell..." he mumbled. He tried to think back. Somewhere in his muddled memory he remembered a noise waking him up. He had turned over and pulled Cass towards him... thats all he could recall.

He looked around, then down at himself. Not only was he covered in mud...he was out in the middle of nowhere and completely naked.

"Cassidy?" he called out, slowly standing up, his cheeks stinging with confusion and embarassment. He hated how he looked naked. Thick, silver fur covered him a lot of places he usually could keep covered by clothes.

Cass raised her head. "Vasile?" she hollered. "Is that you?" Oh, oh thank god. She wasn't alone, she could get out of here, it would all somehow be okay... She tested the air with her tongue, but if he was around, he was too far off for her to smell.

She craned her head around, though, looking for some patch of body heat that might be him. Still nothing.

"Vasile?"

Vasile's ears pricked slightly when he heard someone return his call. "Cass?"

Following her voice, he stumbled around the thick jungle. He passed under tree, but didn't figure looking up. "Cass, baby, can you here me?" He tried to stay mostly ducked behind bushes or tree trunks, praying that if it was anyone it would be Cass and not someone else... like Amaya or the Dude.

"Vasile!" Cassidy was pretty certain she'd seen him, there. "I'm up here. In the trees."

She scrambled down the tree trunk to the next branch within her reach--honestly, if she'd realised that her tail was this useful, she'd have exploited it a lot more before now. At least maybe now Vasile would be able to see her.

"Vasile?"

Vasile got a confuzzled look on his face then turned his gaze upward. The view the vantage gave him was sadly lost for he was still far to confused and embarass to notice (which was quite a feat for Vasile).

"Cass? Why the hell are you up there? How did you get up there?" He wondered how a full grown woman with non-fuctioning legs could hoist herself up a tree.

"What's happening?"

"I don't know why I'm up here. I woke up, and I was here." Cassidy was vaguely reassurred to note that he was naked too, because if she was going to have to tramp through the jungle with no clothes on, she might as well do it with someone else. "I was higher up, actually."

She took a deep breath and made her way down another branch, clinging with her tail and legs, and made a mental note to not do any more tree climbing, if she could help it, without some clothes on. Ow.

"I remember waking up, but it might've been a dream. You don't know what's happening, either?"

"Not a clue."

Vasile came over to the trunk and tried to assess the situation. He attempted to try to grab onto a low branch. He hopped up, grabbing the branch, and ried to scramble up. He hissed in pain as he long toenails tried, but failed, to dig into the trunk and the rough bark chaffed roughly against his skin.

"Careful, Vasile. I'll be down in a second."

Or at least she hoped she would. She wasn't sure what she was going to do when she hit the last branch. Her scales were fairly tough, but not tough enough to be doing hiking on her knees. "I don't know what they think they're playing at. I'm amazed I didn't fall out, while I was asleep."

She struggled down to one of the lower branches, and was almost looking Vasile in the eye. Cass cleared her throat a little awkardly, her tail wrapping tightly around the branch.

"So, um. You're naked too?" Which was a silly thing to say, and she knew it.

As soon as he could reach her, Vasile reached out to take hold of her torso and help her to the ground. He smoothed down her hair, happy to find her presence comforting. "Yeah.." he said, clearing his throat, embarassed. "At first I was afraid I had sleep walked...but thats obviously out of the question..."

He looked her over and frowned. "I'm just glad yoyu didn't get hurt."

"I'm fine. I'm glad you're okay, too." Cassidy clung to him for a moment, mud or no mud. "I never even though of sleepwalking, but... I guess I've never heard of anyone climbing a tree in their sleep. At least not without dying."

She shook herself. "I suppose the most obvious thing to do would be to head back... wherever back might happen to be... have a shower, get some clothes... Goddammit, this is twisted, Vasile."

"Oh god I hope no one is awake..." he mumbled, looping his arms around her shoulders. He kissed her forehead tenderly and gave her a supporting smile. "They probably just saw our little performance last night on their little cameras and Moreau probably just felt horribly insuffcient and had to lash out like the sad, sadistic little psycho he is."

Cassidy gave a little bit of a snort. "Well, I hope he felt really damn insufficient, then. It's going to suck if we have to go through this every time, though."

She craned her head around. "Any idea which way to go? I didn't see anything but trees when I was up there."

Vasile smiled smugly. Everytime, eh?

"No... I have no idea where we are. I guess we just pick a direction and head that way."

A nod. "This place is, well... small enough that in theory we can go any old way and either come across some landmark or the beach eventually." Cass scratched her head. "Oh, dammit, this is going to be the biggest pain. I just had to have taken off my legs."

Not asking for her approval, Vasile took a hold of her and hoisted her into his arms, carrying her like groom would a bride. He was suddenly very thankful he continued to work out while being on this island. Though it was mostly aerobic and not weight-training, being her legs were small they did cut some of the weight off her form, and he was able to keep her steady, at least for a little while.

Cassidy gave a surprised squeal and reflexively tried to grab at Vasile's shoulder. "What?! You're going to carry me all that way?" She was absolutely astonished.

The tip of her tail, of its own accord, wrapped lightly around Vasile's arm.

"Well, I'm going to do my best," he said, a proud smile on his face. The burn his arms, though, really made him hope he found the village fast. He looked around, then with a determined humph he started making his way through the jungle, looking for any kind of trail or landmark.

"Oh, um. Well, say so if you need a break," Cassidy said, a little worried. "Really, that would be okay." This was all just a little... chivalrous for her, and quite bizarre.

But then, a lot of unusual things had been happening to her.

"Oh, I will..." Vasile huffed, but tried to keep the smile on his face. He had no idea where he was going, but he tried to retain his cool, for Cass's sake as much as his own.

Eventually, Vasile found a clearing and a dirt road. He sat down on a rock and gently placed Cass down, wiping the face on his face. "Thank god, a road... lets trake a break then we should be able to find the village by following it, you think?"

"We'll find something, anyway." Cassidy tried to grin hopefully, but she was feeling more than a little ridiculous being carried around, and more than a little annoyed at the whole situation. "Village or not."

Vasile leaned back, letting his muscles relax for a few. "I'm really sorry about this. This really isn't how I pictures this morning going."

"Me, neither. But it's not your fault." Cass shook her head. "I mean, when your life is in the hands of a madman, you need to be able to take a few knocks. Although this is weird and random, even for him."

"No kidding," he sighed. "Well, I guess we should get going. I would really, really like a shower."

With a bit of a smirk, Cassidy nodded. "Sounds like a good idea to me."

"Ah, good. You can join me, then," he said with a smile as he stood up and hoisted her back in his arms and started down the road.

RP Log - Camp

Sabin Duvert
IT's about two hours after Ambrose left that morning to go find supplies.

Finally, there is a crackling of underbrush - and the sound of more than one individual coming back towards the camp. Then, emerging into view is a familiar wolfman with an armload of .... stuff. There are a few mangoes, but it's primarily long branches and a few choice flat pieces of wood.

There is a smile on his face, but the hunger in his belly, that has been growing worse since he awoke (especially after a pitiance of a meal the day before of only a few mangos.)

"... And here it is" Ambrose finished saying to Cassidy and Vasile as they followed behind him - Vasile carrying the snakewoman... and neither of them with clothing. "IT might not be much, but... it will have to do. And I intend on trying to fix it up."

He turned back to the camp with a smile, looking to see who might be up and about.

Vasile DiRossi
Vasile shifted Cass's weight lower so she was more significantly covering, well, himself. He definately looked out of sorts for Vasile - sweaty, dirty, and covered head to toe, nearly, in mud. It was caked and brittle in his hair, and made his lines of swaet even more obvious. His hair was a tangled, dirty mess, and his thick fir down his spine and over his groin was started to painfully mat between the mud and the sweat and lack of a brush. He looked surprisingly ashamed or embarassed about his appearance, but he stepped towards the camp, repeating constantly to himself that people wouldn't care so much given the circumstance.

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy, feeling quite thoroughly silly, shifted to cover her chest. Almost as muddy as Vasile, her hair only half in its braid, and her unscaled skin scratched from treebark, she was looking just as disshevelled.

"Home, sweet home." Cass's tongue flickered. "It's not bad at all." Just like camping, right. Just think positive. "Y'can put me down now, Vasile. If you need to. I can manage on my knees around here, really."

Amaya Vaughan
Amaya's head turned as Ambrose returned, though she quickly 'meeped' and hid her eyes into her knees at the sight of a very naked Cassidy and Vasile. It didn't help that she couldn't remember if either of them had seen her change yet either.

Angelina Swanson
Angelina came out, happy to see Ambrose had returned, but couldn't help but double take at Vasile. She blinked a few times at his appearance, but -homg- it really was him. And he was naked. "Vasile?" she squeaked out before she could stop herself. No need to act like a fangirl. She was better than that, dammit. But she couldn't help but continue to stare. She was even tempted, if only for half a second, to ask for him autograph. Then she smirked to herself on the irony of it all. And the surrealness.

Emelyn
Em was sitting in the nook of a braidwork of immense tree roots- somewhere she'd been for a while, waiting for the camp to come alive again. She'd awoken to a dead quiet- but not a calm. In this company, how could it be?

She was there when Ambrose tromped back into camp, followed by... Cass, who she had met- and another man, who she assumed was Vasile. She'd seen him once before- briefly- at the Halloween party, but not since. And certainly not...

So naked.

She wasn't far away from them, and she cast her eyes down, more out of courtesy- for she'd already seen both of them- it was difficult to hide your nakedness in the plain of day, but she called to them with a voice croaky from not having spoken in hours.

"If one of you'd like, you can have my shirt." ...Or Cass can have my bra, she thought, but didn't add to the sentiment. She figured it would be evident that she was offering either-or. ...The camp was filled with women, after all, except for Ambrose and Vasile. And well... there was no keeping secrets from Ambrose, and Vasile had no gains to ogling at the moment...

Ambrose Maurlias
Ambrose set down the heavy pile of materials and shook off his sore arms. He was no... weakling. At least he would protest if called one - but perhaps it may not have been the most inaccurate of insults. And carryign wood for the past twenty minutes left his arms burning. At least he had procured some more supplies for the extra lean to that they would have to build.

But there was still a lot more materials that they would be needing.

And food.

"Vasile... Cassidy.." He gestured to the two of them... "You've met Amaya I believe... and this is Angelina.... And Emelyn" He introduced, still not looking directly at the two new companions.

"And that's quite kind of you, Emelyn" He added with a smile.

With a hesitance, and an embarrassment for probably ought to have offered earlier... "Vasile... uhrm... if you want them... I could go back behind some bushes with you and loan you my... uhm... undergarments?" He added quietly to the silver-furred actor.

"We found eachother out in the woods towards the village... they'd been locked out too, and I told them what we found out. But they hadn't seen anyone else either."

Vasile DiRossi
Vasile swallowed and hesitantly set Cass down. Its not that he didn't think Cass could fend for herself. It was more becuase, well, she was proverbial fig leaf at the moment. BUT - he couldn't (literally - couldn't - his arms were killing him) use Cass to cover himself all day, so, might as well.

He blushed as Angelina recogized him, but tried to do his best to smile and nod friendly.

He nodded a thanks to Em and looked to Cass with a smile. But then he turned and just kind of... gaped at Ambrose. He'd never had to share anything with anyone before... much less -underwear- How embarassing. But was that...worse off than being stark naked? "uh, sure, thanks," he mumbled quickly, then briskly went behind a large tree with some underbrush

Cassidy Smith
Cass settled herself down on the ground, her arms still firmly across her chest. "If you really don't need your shirt, I'd appreciate it," she told Emelyn awkardly. "A lot."

She'd just have to, uh, pretend it was a dress or something. But it was definitely better than nothing.

She did wave to Amaya and Angelina. Amaya was looking... rather scalier since she'd last seen her. And Angelina...?

...wasn't she...?

No way. No possible way.

Amaya Vaughan
Nodding, she looked back up but made sure to keep her eyes away from them. "Hey Cassidy... Vasile." Her eyes then went to the green iguana still inside her lean-to next to her to keep herself from looking over at them on accident.

Angelina Swanson
Angelina tugged at Ambrose's shirt she was wearing, but didn't offer to take it off, for, unlike the lucky and fully dressed Em, she wasn't wearing a bra underneith.

She waved at the introductions. Vasile seemed too concerned with getting into Ambrose's underwear to register, but the look on Cass's face told her that Ambrose must have mentioned her before. She looked over the scaled woman, trying to to stare but feeling a dread knot in her stomach form as she saw her legs.

Angelina almost felt like crying again. This not knowing BS was really starting to get to her. Each new person she met that was changing just ground the sick reality into her.

Emelyn
"Here," Em said, unbuttoning the white shirt down the front. It was that same shirt she'd come to the island in- somehow, of all the clothes Moreau had provided her, it was still the staple she went to in times of emotional crisis. It was strangely poignant to her that she was standing in the exact outfit that she'd first come to the island in... but before letting herself get nostalgic about the 'days before'- or to well up about anything- she cast off the thought.

As well as her shirt. She felt a moment of embarrassment as she scooted the beige bra strap farther up onto her shoulder... but she pushed it aside. Who here would criticize? ...Well, who would have the right to, anyway, she thought on the second hand, and passed down the shirt to Cass.

Ambrose Maurlias
Ambrose decidedly avoided looking as Emelyn offed her shirt in front of the group, using the same excuse Amaya had in looking at the small green fellow that lay obstantly beside her in her tent. He quirked an eyebrow. "Find something, Amaya?" He quieried. ANd almost as soon as he said it, his stomach gave an audible rumble. He swallowed. He had almost suggested cooking up the lizard to divvy - even though it probably wouldn't make for a very big meal for any of them - before catching himself as he looked again at Amaya's scaly legs that looked remarkably like the lizard's and clamped his mouth shut.

"Uhrm... I'll be right back... Amaya - why don't you help Cassidy set up a lean-two for her and Vasile....?" He looked at Cassidy. "Assuming that you don't mind sharing one..? It would probably be warmer.." He babbled, realizing that he might have taken too much for granted with their mutual nakedness.

"I'll be right back" He covered, taking the time to follow vasile behind the trees.

"Alright, Vasile." He sighed. "Believe me... I wish there were another way as well...." but I want to keep my pants... they're more covering.... He slid down his sleep pants and with a sigh, hooked his thumbs in his tightie whities that he wore beneath his sleep pants, and pulled those down as well, trying not to look and make it quick.

Vasile DiRossi
Vasile learned back on the tree, trying to find his center. But then he saw the dreaded tighty-whiteys and shook his head. "Oh, uhm, thanks but no thanks. I think running around named would be better than, welll..."

Well, first there would be the sure ridiculousness of his furry butt being stark naked and frizzying up all around the fruit of the looms.

Second, regular pants made him itch and chafe enough already. Those certainly wouldn't help.

Third..

Vasile took another double-take. "Hey," he said, pointed down, "You've got your own built-in modesty system going on!" he said, trying to decide if he should laugh or get disturbed. "I should take the pants. I wouldn't fit in those anyway, if you catch my drift."

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy buttoned up the shirty, and gave a small sigh of relief. At last, she could put her arms somewhere than over her chest. "Thank you so much."

She snuck a glance at Amaya's iguana, and had to suppress a shudder. Honestly. She had no right to be creeped out... though it didn't change the fact that she was.

And eh? What was this about a shared lean-to? If she could still blush, she would have. "Ahhhhm. Well. It's okay if Vasile doesn't mind..."

Amaya Vaughan
"Uh... you could say that. Or it found me." Amaya's tail twitched behind her as she scooped the iguana up with one of her large hands, being able to hold it well despite it's size. "I doubt he has much meat on him... that and I don't wanna become a cannibal." She smirked and snorted, though it wasn't in humor.

"And sure, no problem." The reptile squirmed in her grasp as she stood, walking over to the edge of the camp and setting it down before pushing it onward with her fingers. It scampered away into the brush, wanting to get away from whatever had been holding it.

Angelina Swanson
Angelina didn't know what to do, so she began to poke around and gather supplied to try and made another make-shift shelter for Vasile and Cass, her eyebrows raiding as she caught bits and peices of Ambrose and Vasile's discussion from behind the tree.

Emelyn
"You're really welcome," Em said, glad for the look of relief on Cass' face. "I think it's better that we're all partially naked than a few of us be fully clothed."

She went the opposite direction of Angelina, looking for some long sticks to help make the new shelter, until she realized that she didn't actually want to stay there. A part of her felt it was time to move on. So she waited for Ambrose to come free of his conversation and ... er... exchange with Vasile. Somehow, he'd set himself up as a sort of leader amongst them... and it was probably for the best, since he had the most ties with everyone else. He'd be most likely to convince them to something. Anything- but staying here.

Ambrose Maurlias
Ambrose blushed, his ears flattening against his head as he replied with a whisper between clenched teeth. His... changes down there were a bit of an awkward subject to say the least with him.

"It's not... Rrrgh.. It's not a 'modesty system'" He said quietly - but he was still unfortunately close enough to be audible by most of the group. "It's embarrassing... and .... things are only... more obvious... if things...." He gesticulated awkwardly. "Nevermind!" He finished quickly, removing the undies and pulling his pants back up quickly.

"And don't give me that crap about not fitting." He rolled his eyes at the veiled knock. "Besides! Something is better than nothing, right? You can... decorate them with leaves or something if they're that bad." He said sarcastically.

He returned to the camp, letting Vasile clothe himself, seeing the beginings of the shelter begun to be assembled. Running a hand through his hair, he pondered. What would they do now?

"Alright..." He started, rubbing his paw-pads of his hands together as he formulized a plan... of sorts. "The labs are only about half an hour north of here.... I say we make daily trips there to make sure the power doesn't come back on. We can also reinforce the lean-to's I built last night in a hurry. Make them bigger... more protected against the rain with some big leaves and bark... more branches ... and use some mud to fill in the holes. We also need to keep an eye on the fire, because that was a b***h to get started. " He ticked them off on his fingers. "And most importantly... food. We need to have more to eat than just mangos..." He winced. "at least I do..." He looked around the group in varying states of undress, dirty, and the lingering smell of anxiety still on the air, subconsciously trying to judge their strengths and weaknesses..

His face softened. "We can do this... things will be alright. I'm sure of it.... And I'm sure there are others still out there as well. Once we get situated... we can probably make forays to see if we can find more information... and make sure everyone else is alright too. "

He took a few paces back and forth, wandering closer to Angelina, who he gave a small squeeze on her shoulder with a smile. He knew she felt left out... she had arrived much later than all of the others here and knew very little of them. The talk they had had the night before had made that evident.

"We'll break down the tasks. Does anyone here have any experience with anything that might be useful? Hunting? Tracking? Construction or fishing or anything like that?" He looked around the group. "I... uhm... was in the boyscouts... I know some very basic things like how to build a fire... if you give me dry wood and a few hours... and these lean-to's...." He blushed a bit "I... could probably even follow an animal trail with my... nose... But I don't know how good I'd be at catching anything.."

Vasile DiRossi
Vasile grumbled and, swallowing his pride, quickly pulled Ambrose's undies up over himself. He tried to rid the image of how insanely silly he probably looked as he headed back into camp, taking a seat next to Cass and putting his arm around her shoulders.

And now, besides looking comical, he felt completely useless. He shifted uncomfortably as he realized just how few survival skils he had. Only stuff he learned about in movies and stuff. Not that any of that was probably really applicable.

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy grimaced, and squeezed Vasile's hand. "I'll, uh, volunteer to watch the fire. I'm not sure what else I can do, to be honest. I'd do more, I would, but..."

Goddamn that Moreau. It had to have been something without any legs, didn't it?

"And I'll help around the camp... I can get around okay on my knees," she said eagerly. "Mostly."

Amaya Vaughan
After setting free the lizard Amaya joined Angelina in rooting around for supplies. From what Ambrose had brought back she picked out the best one's she could find to make the lean-to and listened to him speak as she gathered things together.

"Uh... I know how to hunt a little." She spoke up quietly, still crouched by the stack of supplies. "And I know how to gut and skin animals for the meat if it's any help." She had never been more thankful that her father was a hunter and tried to force his daughter into being a son. Even though she had been young when he taught her, watching your father gut and skin a deer was something that wasn't easily forgotten. Green eyes trailed up to Ambrose. "Though I only know how to use a bow 'n arrows a little so... I dunno..." She trailed off, looking down at the pile of things again.

Angelina Swanson
"I don't have any bright ideas," Angie said, "but I'll help where I can. Build traps perhaps? Maybe a pit trap or something? Plus I don't mind walking to the labs if I need to."

Emelyn
Emelyn winced, but said what she had been planning to say before Angelina chimed in. "I wouldn't mind going to the lab, either. ...I'm good at starting fires in the wild, though. ...I wouldn't be much use on the fish-catching- I've never done it before. ...But to be honest, I was getting pretty cold last night, and now that we're all sharing clothes, I think we should probably either double up in the shelters or pack them with moss, or something insulating." She felt a little strange drawing attention to her half-naked torso, but it did need to be said. She was already feeling the hairs on her arm raise to the occasional gust of wind.

Ambrose Maurlias
Ambrose listened to each one in turn and nodded. A flare of protectiveness burned quickly in Ambrose when Angelina suggested going to the labs alone. IT was probably ridiculous - he doubted that there was anything particularly dangerous in the woods between here and there... but still... it was jungle, and she could get lost.. or hurt...

He shook his head. She was independent... she was an adult, and she could make her decisions. But still... part of him wanted to latch to her side and protect her. .... what was with him?!

"Alright..." Ambrose finally said, directing his attention once again to the people around him. "Cassidy... why don't you and Emelyn work at reinforcing the lean-to's. It sounds like you know a thing or two about that, Emelyn - fill the gaps in the tops with mud... pack them with moss... maybe make a few of them bigger so we can double up. I'd suggest me and Angelina, Vasile and Cassidy and you and Amaya." He said, nodding to each pair in turn. It sounded like at the very least there wouldn't be any sleeping arrangement problems. "And the two of you can be in charge of keeping the fire going - and firewood. Without burning down the woods." He ended with a wink.

"I'd say our first order of business is to get the camp set up and situation to where it can support the six of us relatively comfortably. Angelina, you .... you sure you don't mind going to the labs? I can go with you if you need?" His ear flicked back. He was being over-protective and he knew it. "And you can try to set up some traps as well - just make sure you let us know where you build them so you don't catch one of us."

"Amaya... why don't you and I... urhm... " He took a breath. He didn't want to go back there. "I was thinking about heading back to the helipad... there was a lot of sharp metal there...." He trailed off. "From there maybe we could try to go hunting." He smiled at her. "I had no idea you had that kind of experience. THat's going to be useful, I bet. We can probably fashion a few knives from the metal by lashing it to sticks. I don't know about a bow and arrow, though...."

Finally he turned to Vasile, realizing that he hadn't given him anything to do. But then he hadn't volunteered any useful skills. Other than acting. And unfortunately, Ambrose didn't forsee him entertaining a deer or anythign to letting itself be eaten. "Vasile... you could try to help us hunt... if you think you could and not frighten anything away. YOu seem pretty quick on your feet - but I don't know if you could exactly chase down a rabbit or anything.... or you could help Angelina with the traps...?"

Even though Ambrose didn't realize it, taking charge of the mismatched group, giving them direction, rooting down in one territory to support and protect... despite his rational take of everything, he was very much leaning towards what his gut lupine instincts suggested to him would be safe and a good thing to do.

Vasile DiRossi
Vasile just shrugged and nodded. "aye-aye, director," he sighed, feeling very... un-useful.

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy nodded. "Sounds like a plan."

Vaguely, she had a desire to go be by herself, preferably in a tree. And sleep all day.

No, she was going to be useful.

"I... don't know much about making shelter, but I'll do my best."

Amaya Vaughan
Even though she dreaded going back there... he was right once again. The metal would be very useful in making weapons and even though they probably couldn't make a bow and arrows, she could at least make a spear of some kind... and a knife if she ever caught anything so she'd be able to slice whatever they killed properly. She just hoped it was a rabbit... or maybe a deer if they got lucky. Her father had never shown her how to pluck a bird or much of anything else beyond that.

Amaya cracked a smile, standing up with a nod. "My dad was a hunter and since he didn't have a son, he kind of taught me little things here and there."

Angelina Swanson
Angelina squeezed Ambrose's hand. "I'll be fine, its not too far." She kissed him on his cheek and grabbed a mango to nibble at as she headed towards the labs to see if there was any change in circumstance.

Emelyn
"It's alright, Cass," Em said, picking up a longish-type stick that had come out of the tree she'd been leaning against. "They're pretty straightforward. Just two longish sticks to prop to make an inverted V, then one longer stick along the back..." she was envisioning the Sydney Opera house as she explained, even though that would be more of a cluster of shelters... the shape was about right. But as she spoke, she realized something else, and shook her head. "Never mind... I'll do the frame. ...I don't mean to be insulting- really- but if you can't get much higher than that, would you mind collecting some moss and leaves?"

Ambrose Maurlias
Ambrose gave Angelina a farewell hug. "Take care, I'll be back later... hopefully with some more to eat." He smiled at her. "Keep your eye out for anyone else... or other things to eat or things that might be useful." He patted her on the back and walked by Vaisile towards Amaya.

"Vasile - you're also welcome to go scouting for other people if you like - or you can help out wherever you like" He smiled.

"Well, it certainly sounds like we'll all need those hunting and skinning skills, Amaya." He said honestly. "Maybe you can show me a thing or two and we'll actually catch something." He smiled.

Ambrose gave a thumbs-up to Emelyn and Cassidy, and headed off with Amaya towards the helipad.

This time, however, he selected a few big leaves to cover or block his nose with when he got close. He doubted that the scent was still as strong as it was before, but he was goign to need that sense of smell if he wanted any meat to eat.

Amaya Vaughan
Amaya smiled slightly, following Ambrose towards the hellipad. "I never thought knowing how to skin animals would come in handy."

RP Log

Emelyn
"Here, can you hold this, Cass?" Em handed her foraging companion a dense square of moss that she'd pulled from the base of a large tree. She was about to say something more, but a buzzing sound accosted her ears and turned her head towards the sound. It was evident right away what the sound was- for the air swam with black dots, swarming in and out of a fallen log several feet away from the two.

Suddenly- something else swarmed into the air- a wave of sweet, potent smell.

"Oh, that's honey," she breathed, her mouth almost watering for the sweetness.

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy took the moss, eager to help. She suspected she was slowing down the whole process, but... still helping. Yes.

"Honey?" Cass's tongue flickered. Yes, there was a distinct odour of honey there, though she wasn't as enthusiastic as Em seemed to be. Although it would have been a welcome change from fruit, it still wasn't at all what she really wanted. "Honey goes with bees. Maybe we should go a different way?"

Emelyn
It was true- the log was hardly free of bees- they flew before, the closest bunch not two or three feet away.

"Maybe you're right," Em said, taking a step back... but her head was still geared towards what her nose told her was a valuable vault of honey. "Except... if we go back and get some of the fire, we could smoke them out. That would calm them enough. ...Maybe."

She was feeling a little reluctant to suggest it any stronger to Cass- who probably didn't have a taste for honey with her new palate.

Cassidy Smith
Cass blinked at Em, for a moment. "You really want some of this stuff, don't you?"

She tapped her fingers together. "If you really want some honey, I'll help, though I don't think I'll eat it." Think, think, think. "I'd think that smoke would be the best option. It's a lot better than just charging in there. But just a flaming stick..."

Cassidy looked down at the moss in her hands, and a grin spread across her face; she was remembering something she had once done on camping trips to amuse herself. "You ever throw moss in a campfire?"

Emelyn
A wide grin spread across Em's face.

"I'm reading your mind, Cass..." she took what moss was still in her hands and put it down on the ground. "Hold on, I'm going to go get some of the fire, I'll be right back." A bee zoomed between them, and Em ducked. "Whoa. Careful- you may want to get back a little. I don't know how strong your..." she stopped short of saying scales as a gut reaction, but then realized that there was no use trying to pretend something wasn't there, and finished. "scales are."

With that, she loped back to the campsite, where she wrapped a segment of moss and fur that they'd used to make the fire in the first place onto the forked end of a stick, and got a bit of flame started on it. It took her a few minutes, as the fire was practically embers from the night before- no one had tended it in a while.

She made her way back to where Cass was, picking through the underbrush.

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy was pretty sure that at no other point in her life she had ever wondered what would happen if a bee stung a snake. She shuffled back a metre or two and settled down.

Bees. She could not believe she'd volunteered for this. Insects were gross, and creepy, and these ones could sting. What if they were killer bees?

No, that was stupid. If they were killer bees, they'd be dead already.

She raised her head as she heard Em returning. "Success?"

Emelyn
"Flame. We are successful cavepeople," she said, smiling as she held the stick at arms length from her. She eyed the log, then turned to Cass to suggest a fire pattern... only to see that there was something unreadable there in those changed eyes. She narrowed her own eyes in thought.

"Are you okay with this? I mean, if you're uncomfortable, I could do it alone. I know you don't want any honey- and I don't want you to get stung."

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy fidgeted a little, her feathers fluffing themselves up. "Hell, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared shitless," she admitted. "But my own reflection scares me more. I said I'd help, and I will."

So, with that said, she gave herself a shake and forced a grin.

"Er. How are we going to do this?" Her tongue flickered as she thought.

Emelyn
Em felt a wave of guilt. "I'm sorry- I didn't know it bothered you so much. ...Just... don't get close enough to get stung. I don't mind being stung, I'm not allergic to them, so I'll be the only one to get close enough. If everything works out, you just get to help carry honey back. ...And help me figure out what to do." She laughed, waving the stick gently in the air to get oxygen to the infant flame.

"So how do you think we should go about it? I could pack moss around the opening to the log, and some of those leaves, and light the fire... what could we use to fan the smoke when it gets up enough?"

Cassidy Smith
"No. Nah, don't be sorry. I didn't say anything." Cassidy concentrated on looking at the beehive, rather than Em. "Do you think you can get close enough to do that, though? I mean, if you think so, I say, go for it. Might want to be quick about it.... do you see any big leaves around? We could fan with something like that..."

Emelyn
"I can get close enough, I think." She looked at the rivers of bees in the air. "Well... maybe not JUST around the log," she abridged, "but I could get a few steps closer. Look for some leaves, and I'll start it up."

A bee flew past her as she gathered a bundle of sticks and the moss they'd collected for the shelters at the base of a tree near the log. Her instinct was to swat it away and run- but made herself stay calm, letting the bee land on her back. Her skin must be warm, she knew- exposed to the sun for so long. She had a good sized pile that sloped on either side, packed with moss, and she put the stick to it, hoping for the flame to catch.

Cassidy Smith
Cass could only stare at Em in awe, before she gave herself a sharp shake and turned her attention to leaf gathering.

Nothing on the ground that would do... but... that tree had leaves that were big enough. Only problem was that they were a little high up. The lowest branch would have been only just within her reach if she could stand.

She exhaled sharply, and made her way up to the tree. She'd done this coming down; she could do it going up. Right? Yes, just think positive.

The hardest part was just getting herself onto the tree itself. That done, though, she clambered up using fingers and arms and legs and even her tail, hugging the trunk with her limbs and slowly shuffling up. It was definitely a way of climbing that would not ever have occurred to her before having to come down in just this way.

Just, don't look down.

Finally close enough, Cass plucked a few nice big leaves and let them drop. Four should be enough. More than enough.

She took another deep breath and started making her way down again.

Emelyn
Em was so intent upon coaxing the flame to take to the pile of moss, fluff, and sticks that she didn't see Cassidy's efforts. If she had, she would have felt a mix of more guilt, for forcing her to exert herself on Em's behalf, and mostly amazement at her tenacity... and also to wonder if this was what Moreau had in store for them, this change that required such strength of spirit- the human spirit- no matter how ...unhuman they became.

She blew on the flame, coaxing it with gently waving hands and a small tunnel of leaves and fluff to protect the flame. Suddenly, it picked up, and Em waved her arms in the air.

"Success! Quest for Fire, baby..." she laughed. Only then did she turn back to Cassidy. "I think we can start fanning it now."

Cassidy Smith
Cassidy was brushing herself off; there was no sense in staining or ripping a borrowed shirt. Still rather out of breath, she merely nodded, and gathered up the leaves she'd dropped from above.

She took a few "steps" forward on her knees, and held out two of the large leaves. "These'll do, I think."

Emelyn
"You okay? You seem a little out of breath. Oh, thanks..." she took the offered leaves, and felt the heft of them in her palm. They were sturdy, with thick veins coursing through them from the center to the tips- they should work perfectly, she thought, as she came closer to the fire.

"Please don't let me burn the forest down," she laughed, ducking a wayward bee as she started to fan the flame. The smoke at first was thin and swirling at best, but the oxidation seemed to feed it, and a small cloud of smoke formed above the makeshift fire.

Cassidy Smith
"Just tired. Never did a lot of tree climbing even as a kid," Cass murmured.

She turned the leftover leaves over in her hands; she'd had ever intention of helping fan, but she had suddenly realised that not only did she not really know what to do, but the extra wind could very easily put out the smoky fire.

"I think it's working," she said, and coughed. "Yick. I forgot how awful burning moss smells."

Emelyn
"It's pretty damn potent," Em said, coughing a little herself as she turned her head away from the smoke. "Wooooo..." she exhaled, blinking away the moisture that gathered in her eyes. "I think it's working, though... do the bees look like they're calming down?"

Cassidy Smith
"I... I think so." Cassidy was trying to resist another reflexive tongue-flicker; she didn't want to smell this smoke any more than she already was. "They do seem a little sluggish."

She peered at Em curiously. "What do we do now? Pry the log open and run with honeycomb?"

Emelyn
"I think there's an opening around the top." She could see the dark hole from her vantage point- and didn't want to rub it in to the low-bound Cassidy that she had a higher perspective. "Hold on... I think we can get away with not fanning for a while." She put the leaf down, away from the pile, and ducked low to get to the log. The bee that was on her back flew off, and she tentatively kneeled near the rotting log.

"Ooh..." she said, nervous about reaching her hands into the log. She could see a crust of honey deep within the opening, but before she could reach into it, she winced- a bee stung her neck.

"Holy crap, that hurt," she said, but the sharp jolt of pain gave her the incentive to get her hands into the log quickly, and grab at the mishapen comb with both hands. She stood up, and for her trouble received no less than three other stings, but she thrust the comb into the cloud of smoke, then bat away at the remaining bees that clung to it. She rushed away from the log, wincing- there was undoubtedly more honey inside, but this was all she was willing to head for.

She took one cursory look at the log, the fire, and then down at Cass.

"Ouch."

Cassidy Smith
"You okay?" Cassidy's eyes were wide. She couldn't imagine ever doing anything like that. "Maybe we should get out of here before we lose all the smoke," she suggested. "Or, uh, put it out or something first."

All the first aid for beestings she could remember involved things they had no way of getting. No ice, no antibacterial cream, no baking soda paste. And you had to get the poison sac and the stinger out, she remembered that, but they'd always suggested using either tweezers or a credit card to do that, of all things, which she didn't have either.

Emelyn
"Yeah, I'm fine," Em said, rubbing gingerly at the area around the sting on her neck. The other three were all on her hands and arms, and somehow didn't cause her as much grief as the steady burn at her neck. "Yeah, we should probably put out the flames. Here." She handed the honeycomb to Cassidy, then went over to the pile and kicked at it until it lay flat on the ground. Luckily, the sloping edges hadn't been lit, so it was easy to do with her immense boots.

She coughed through the smoke, which was dying down, and stomped at the now flat pile of embers. Then she scooped up a measure of earth and packed it down tightly onto the area, in case any of the embers decided to be tenacious. It took her much longer than she'd expected, and when she went back to where Cass was, she opened her eyes wide and made a mock-face of terror.

"Ooh, that honey better be good. ...Would you mind holding it for a bit? My hands sting."

Cassidy Smith
"Not at all. Yeck, it's sticky, though." Cassidy grinned. "But I'm not sure what else I would have expected. I can't believe you actually did that."

After a brief moment of thought, she added, "Maybe just some cold water on the stings might help? It's not ice, but it's better than nothing."

Emelyn
Em laughed, a low and dry chuckle as she walked, hands in front of her, back towards the campsite. "Yeah, well... I've done stupider things. I told a drug dealer in Den Haag to stop selling pills to my friends a few years ago. ...Thought he was going to blow up my apartment. Bees are nothing." she laughed, but the fact was, her neck was killing her.

"Cold water sounds pretty decent. And I hope the others like the honey. ...Damn, we have to get more moss, don't we?"

Cassidy Smith
A drug dealer? Cassidy had to suppose that if she'd ever had to deal with anybody psycho enough to blow up her apartment, she'd probably be a lot less scared of things, too.

"Moss. Oh. Oh, yeah." She grimaced. "Maybe we should bring the honey back first, though... so we don't get dirt all over it."

Island of Moreau
Even on a tropical island, January and February are still relatively chillier than their summer month counerparts. As the sun sinks, the chill of the night air even permeates the jungle, making the fire a welcome sanctuary for the cold-blooded of the group. As Cassidy is sitting, staring at the fire, much like Amaya earlier, other less humanoid reptiles of the forest sense the warmpth coming from the campsite.

Cass's reverie isn't disturbed until IT has slid down over her shoulder, flicking its familiar tongue probingly, unafraid of its scaled perch or the warming fire.

Cassidy yawned and poked at the fire with a stick, for lack of anything else to do.

She just felt so useless, really. She was more-or-less stuck here, with whatever tasks she could do, and she couldn't shake the feeling she wasn't doing her fair share. But, really... what else was there to do other than tend the fire?

Not a lot.

The air was cool, but the fire was comfortably warm and Cass, at the moment, was almost content. Nothing to do but sit, and think, and...

There was a touch on her shoulder.

Cassidy turned, unalarmed; she expected one of the others. Vasile, with any luck.

There was a snake on her shoulder. Not a huge one, smooth, and mottled brown in colour. It had slipped over her scaled shoulder, where Emelyn's shirt had been pulled aside, and was currently investigating its new perch, tongue a-flicker.

Cass was paralysed from fear, too scared to move lest it bite her or... or... something. She choked on her own scream and it came out in a frightened hiss. The snake itself was quite unconcerned, slipping back and around her neck, to the other shoulder.

ohgodohgodi'mgoingtodiemakeitgoaway

And the snake ignored her, as though she were merely a rather interesting rock.

If she screamed, would it bite her before someone came? Was it venomous? She hoped not. She really had no idea how to tell.

It occurred to her, suddenly, that this was ridiculous. She was at least as scary as that... that... that thing.

It had scales, she had scales. It had a flickery tongue, she had a flickery tongue. It was weird and legless... and she was weird and footless.

pleaseohpleasedon'tbepoisonous

Pheromones occurred to her. It was a stupid thought, but irresistable. If it were male, and she were female...?

No, that was dumb.

She hoped it was dumb.

The snake crept down Cassidy's front; for one horrible moment she thought it was going to go inside her shirt, but it went over the fabric, not under. She could barely breathe, she was so frightened.

The snake coiled on the ground beside her, and Cassidy suddenly understood. It, like her, had been interested in the warmth from the fire. Tonight seemed a little chillier than most, and this particular snake, either very brave or very foolish, had slipped in amongst the makeshift shelters and sleeping people.

It suddenly didn't seem quite so scary. It was, well, it was like her. Though it still would have raised the hair on the back of her neck had she hair there anymore, it was slightly less alien.

A little easier to take.

Didn't they treat phobias with desensitization? Well, Moreau had one hell of a phobia clinic here. Some side effects may occur.

Still, Cassidy inched away, now that the snake seemed settled, and was very glad when it slithered off into the forest again.

RP Log

Cassidy waddled back on her knees from a quick trip to down to the water for a drink. That in itself was a unique experience. The entire camp was driving her nuts, and she was feeling more than a little on edge. Too many people. Wasn't really quite sure she liked sleeping under a low roof anymore.

At least there was some meat, now. Small blessings.

She settled down to watch the fire, since someone had to, and prodded at it helpfully with a stick.

Emelyn
...It was Cassidy. Emelyn's breath calmed, but she berated herself, a harsh whisper of self-admonishment that clung to the underbelly of her breath. There was nothing to be afraid of- none of these people have ever hurt you, she told herself as she walked farther into the camp, and out of the jungle. She'd taken to walking in the mornings- getting out of the camp as soon as possible when she awoke, pounding the memories of dreams and fears out through her feet. ...Which were bare. After the change, she'd since sacrificed her beloved behemoth boots to the protection of her lean-to. Her claws were becoming too long to be accommodated by the steel-toe.

Emelyn let out the rest of the chatising breath and came to sit with the snake-like woman at the fire, hoping she wouldn't startle her.

"Hello," she said softly. "I've not seen you in a few days."

Cassidy turned, with the flicker of a tongue, and smiled, vaguely. "I suppose not," she said.

Em had changed. Which suggested that even now, Moreau had them under his thumb, though she would be the first to admit she had no idea how. Oh, hell.

"You doing okay?" she asked, as gently as she could.

Emelyn
Em furrowed her brows for a moment... then her face eased. "Oh, you mean..." she looked down at her tawn and cream colored fur. "Yes, I'm fine. It was over rather quickly." She didn't mention the pain of the spines forcing themselves through her back muscles in a furious cavalcade, or the fact that her nose had elongated so violently that blood had come pouring from her nostrils. There were some things... you just didn't say.

"Not that I know how it happened," Em said, shaking her head and speaking- not just to Cassidy, but also to herself in wonder. "I had an awful nightmare..." a sudden recall of Cassidy's flayed, rope-like body in the dream sprung to mind, and she forced it out of her recall, "and then I woke up changing."

"I'd thought," Cass admitted, "that until Moreau decided to show himself again and let us back into civilization, that no one'd change."

She rubbed her hands over her scaly knees.

"But I guess not. It was just a hope, really. You look pretty good, though." This last comment she had long ago taken to using almost universally. What else was there to say? She usually mostly meant it, anyway.

Emelyn
Emelyn smiled, holding onto the compliment and tucking it away. She still hadn't been able to get a good look at herself- the spring water was always so tumultuous that it had been impossible to get a better reflection of herself than as a half fuzzy glance of being half-furry. She hoped she still looked at least someone human- Joli had told her that her eyes were still the same. Perhaps they'd stay that way. She held onto the hope.

"So you think Moreau is still alive?" She said his name softly, still not accustomed to speaking his name without some fear that he was 'watching'.

"He must be," she said, "if people are still changing." Cass shook her head. "Unless someone equally crazy took over from him. Which I suppose is good... well, if we were told the truth about cancer." She made a face. "Believe me, I hate the idea of saying anything good about the process."

Oh, god. She'd figured she'd be safe for a while. What if her next change left her even more immobile, out here in the jungle? Wasn't she useless enough? She twisted the ends of her hair, nervous.

Emelyn
"I don't know," Emelyn said, exasperated with herself and the situation. "I just can't understand why he'd go through all of this. I guess a part of me hopes that the bodies in the helicopters... well... that one of them is his. Maybe we're still changing because the serum is always in our system. Maybe it's a mutation." Her voice trailed off, and she noticed Cassidy twisting her hair in her fingers. She would have recognized it as a nervous gesture, but her mind was preoccupied with a strange imagining. She saw Cass in her mind's eye, constantly worrying at that same rope of hair, twisting it about her nimble fingers as if it would soothe her... and having the braid, instead, come free in her palm.

Emelyn shook her head, out of the daze and wondering where the thought had come from as she blinked at Cassidy.

"I suppose that's a possibility. I don't think I really like the idea of the whole thing going out of control, though." Cassidy kept twisting her braid, rather fitfully, and looked up at Em with her eyes wide. "I have too much imagination for it to be comforting."

Her tongue flickered suddenly, and she forced a grin. "Wouldn't mind terribly, knowing Moreau was dead, though. I was in the middle of a book I hadn't read before, and I'd like to know how it ends."

Emelyn
The sentence somehow struck a chord with Emelyn, and she found herself suddenly laughing. She wiped at her eyes after a moment, and put her hand out to reassure Cass.

"I'm sorry," she said, taking deep, chuckling breaths, "I'm not laughing at you. It's just something about hoping he's dead so you can read your book... it's a better mental picture than I've had in a long time." She tapped at her temple, realizing the split-second her finger touched the skin beneath the goggles that it was now fur-on-fur... a strange feeling. "There haven't been many good images in here, recently."

Cassidy smiled. "But, it's just been driving me up the wall. And I realise it's petty, compared to everything else that's going on, but I want to know." She laughed. "I do sound pretty silly. I know I do."

It was good to laugh... it seemed like it had been an age. And it was good to have made Emelyn laugh. For a moment, it was easy to believe that everything was going to be okay.

Emelyn
"Silly I can handle. Silly is a lot easier to deal with," she said. "And I know what you mean. Everyone else is preoccupied with survival and figuring out how to get off the island... and I'm just feeling sorry for myself that I haven't been able to write anything recently." She was suddenly reminded of the dream, and of Greer's promise to get her skins to write on. She recounted the conversation to Cassidy- not bringing up the dream.

"Tell you what," she finished, "if Greer brings me those rabbitskins for Amaya to cure for me, I'll write you a story or two to read. I'm sure it won't be quite to the caliber of what you expect, but I'll custom write something for you to read."

Cassidy giggled into her hand. "That," she said, "would be wonderful, and a very welcome diversion. You have no idea." She just got so bored, sitting around camp without anything to do. At this point, she was very nearly desperate enough for a trashy near-pornographic romance novel. Not quite, though.

"I didn't know you wrote."

Emelyn
Emelyn smiled. "It's all I ever wanted to do. I thought it was my calling in life, my destiny- until I washed ashore here, of course. ..What sort of things do you like to read? ...What could I write for you?"

"Science fiction," Cass admits, a bit bashfully. "My dad's fault... he got me hooked when I was little. But I love it. It's okay if you don't like writing it, though... it's not everyone's thing."

Emelyn
Emelyn practically squealed, leaning forward on her makeshift seat of a log, and clapped her slightly furred hands together with glee.

"That's my favorite sort! The 'what if' factor is my utterly favorite thing to write about. Science fantasy is even better than science fiction, but to some extent, it's all the same. Oh, I wish the stories I lent to Greer weren't locked up in her duplex." She spoke with the joy of purpose, uncensored or thought through- just the stream of consciousness that betrayed her feelings on the matter.

"Oh, you're kidding!" Cassidy clapped her hands, delighted to find a fellow fan/geek/whatever. "That's great!"

Homemade science fiction, as a present (of sorts), and it would be great. Though she had to suppose it would be short. How much could you write on a rabbit skin?

"I do like 'what if' themes... so much potential there. Though I don't think I'll ever appreciate genetic modification stories ever again," she admitted, with a small smile.

Emelyn
Emelyn grinned ear to ear, though by the look in her eyes, she had been brought quickly back into the real world at the mention of genetic modification. In those past few moments, she'd almost forgotten where she was... and what she was becoming. But truly... could it ever get away from her? It was as clear as the downy fur that covered her form... that this truly was the most obvious part of her destiny.

"Well," she said, "I'll be happy to write something for you. Greer said she's been killing a number of rabbits... and I can make myself charcoal pencils." She smiled, feeling better than she had in days- and certainly for the first time since she'd changed, and realized that her fears had not been realized- Joli was alive, and untouched by Moreau's possibly deadly retribution.

Stupid. It had been a dumb thing to joke about, even in her mild way. She'd put her foot in her mouth... so to speak. Not that she had real feet anymore.

Cass exhaled, slowly. Greer had been actively hunting? Well, she supposed that wasn't surprising. Still, Cass was not looking forward to the day she was hanging out in trees eating small animals whole.

Ohgod.

"Thanks," she grinned. "It's... well, it really means a lot to me. If I can ever do anything for you... just ask."

RP Log

Rain. Stupid, stupid rain.

Cass was cold and miserable and more than a little out of it, due to the temperature. She had the irresistable urge to crawl away somewhere and sleep until it was warm again. Somewhere... high.

She was settling for hugging herself in the doorway of the shelter, trying to bury herself in sparse, damp feathers, watching the rain.

Kim Nguyet
Unknowingly, someone nearby was agreeing with that train of mind.

Kim looked very much like a wet cat as she made her way a bit sluggishly out of the jungle, carrying an armload of fruits. Ever since soon after her transformation, the weather had just been shitty. This was a tropical island, where the hell was the WARMTH ?!?

It was useless to try to wring the water out of her mane of hair now, so she didn't bother. The white Megaman shirt she was wearing clung like hell with the effects all known to wet white shirts, but she didn't care. All she wanted right now was somewhere nice and dry and WARM before she lost focus and did something completely retarded. Thanksfully, the shelter was in sight, and she didn't hesitate, as much as she hated gatherings.

She waved to Cass as well as someone with an armload of fruits could - she had seen her a few times, but they hadn't really talked or anything. Some kind of snake, it seemed... Odd how there seemed to be alot of reptiles.

Someone had a very shitty sence of humor.

Cass looked up, her tongue flickering.

"Oh! Hi! Come on, get out of the rain, quick."

She shifted over to let Kim inside. She'd seen her around a bit, too, though she wasn't entirely sure of her name. She smelled, to Cass's sensitive tongue, very odd indeed.

"What are you doing out here? It's crazy."

Kim Nguyet
Cassidy didn't need to say so twice, as the asian girl was inside the second she had enough space to do so.

"Yeah, I know." Kim answered, letting the fruits in a corner where they would stay dry, before gladly letting herself tumble down on her knees and starting to wring water out of her long hairs. "But I thought we could use some more fruits... The rain was worse that I expected it to be. Took me forever to come back..." She sighed. "That was really stupid indeed."

"It's awful. I hope it stops soon." She punctuated this with a soft, disgusted hiss, and then looked annoyed at herself. "I'm Cassidy. I don't think I know your name."

Those fingers were... something else. But, really, so was she. She couldn't judge... it still puzzled her, however. She couldn't think what sort of creature would have hands like that.

Kim Nguyet
"Seconded on that well placed hiss." Kim made a face as her fingers kept getting tangeled in her hairs and growled a bit in frustration either. Augh, this sucked. So. Much. And she hadn't played any videogames for so long, it annoyed her. Far on the bottom of the worry list, but STILL. Days seemed to go on forever when you had nothing to distract yourself, even if she had lost track of the date... Her brithday had probably passed by now. "Figure the weather gets sucky when I become unable to stand it too well. Pleased to meet you however.. Im Kim."

She managed to untangle the knot a bang had made around one of those ridiculously long fingers and shifted to sit against one of the "walls", facing Cassidy. She had never seen a snake with feathers before... But then she couldn't recall an animal with alien freaking fingers.

"I suppose that would be how it works, yes. Murphy's Law, and all that. Nice to meet you."

It took a moment for the full impact of Kim's statement to hit her. "Hold on. You're not cold-blooded too, are you?" Cass frowned slightly. That really baffled her. She'd been at least able to identify herself as a snake right off, but Kim's transformation was really odd. "And you went out in the rain anyway? I can barely get myself to move in the mornings."

She would have whistled in appreciation, but her fangs would not allow that.

Kim Nguyet
"Yeah. At least, that's the conclusion I came to with Amaya..." The other girl seemed to know alot of people, so the name probably wouldn't be lost on the other girl. "I completely warp out when it gets too cold. It's freaky as hell. But I guess you know all about that too, uh ? Took alot of kicking myself in the a** to get up this morning."

She shook her head a bit, throwing the wet bangs in the back. "...Whatever im turning into is reallllyyyy screwed up, I figure. Some kind of flying lizard I guess... I keep having dreams of flying. My hand kinds of look like a bat's without the skin in between the fingers if you stare at it long enough I guess... But I keep having dreams of volcanoes and things, no towns, no buildings, no nothing... It's creepy."

"A... flying lizard. Strange." Cass tilted her head. "I almost wonder if.... well, I went and asked them right out what they were turning me into. And they mentioned that there were other hybrids than me on the island." She shook her head. "Maybe not. But it's the only think I can think of."

She shifted, pulling her stubby legs under her. "Can't say I've been dreaming about volcanoes, though. Trees, mostly."

Kim Nguyet
"Hybrids... ?" Kim had not seen any of those... Well, asside Cass. The feathers where starting to make some sence now. "You mean they've been mixing animals for some people ?"

Auuugh. As if the initial idea wasn't bad enough.

"Maybe, I don't know... But at any rate it's so... odd. I don't think ill ever get used to this." She mumbled, staring at her fingers.

"Just an idea. Maybe there is some sort of flying lizard I'm not aware of." She shrugged dismissively. "I'm not sure who else, though. They wouldn't tell me that. If things were... hell, if Moreau was still around, I'd suggest just asking. But..."

Cass glanced at Kim's hands, then shifted herself again so she wasn't sitting on what were until recently her feet. "You... get sort of used to that sort of thing," she said, trying to be reassuring. "You adjust. Eventually."

Kim Nguyet
"I guess so... It's not like we got any choice in the matter. We can either accept it, or spend the rest of our lives miserable... I think ill ratter accept it." She smilled a bit. "It still feel so wierd to me, but I know it's not as bad as it used to be allready."

Maybe a better subject on conversation would be a good idea.

"So, hmm... What do you like ?"

"Mm?" Cassidy looked up, her tongue flickering again. "What do I like? Er. Well. I don't know. I like to read. Science fiction, mostly. Swimming, movies. I used to like snow," she added, with a laugh. "Which was good for Vanderhoof, since we got lots there. But I don't think I'd like snow so much anymore."

Kim Nguyet
Kim couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Ill'd guess so too. I never really liked snow myself... But we didn't really get much of it. I like books too... But I don't read as much as I should. Science-fiction is good, but im more into mangas." Kim tiled her head a bit, looking pensive. "My big thing would be video games. Im a total junkie... Even used to make 'em. Well, studied to do so. Music too... Any kind of music, any country, I like almost anything."

"I was never hugely into video games, though I did used to play the odd computer game." She coughed. "Well, more than the 'odd' one. But not so much anymore. I couldn't afford a decent computer for it, you see." She shrugged.

"But... mangas.... what're those?" Cassidy frowned a little.

Kim Nguyet
Kim didn't seem too surprised. "Mangas are japanese comics, pretty much. They're read right to left instead of left to right, and the drawing style is very different that what you usually see in american comics... I prefer those. Ill lend you a few if we can ever get back in our duplexes again." At least they wheren't out in the RAIN like she was.

"And I can understand that... Keeping up to date with computers is pretty much impossible. That's why im more of a console person... More time to get money at least. But since my work was going to require keeping my computer as up to date as possible, I was going to be able to get tax returns on parts and everything related to my computer that I brought. I was right about to start working for a major game company when I came here..." She sighed. "But I guess that can't be helped."

"Oh." Cassidy really couldn't help imagining anything other than Pokemon or Sailor Moon in comic book form--that was really the extent of her experience with anime. Not a lot of interest for her. Still, she said, "Sure, maybe," if only out of politeness.

"I had a friend with a Playstation, when I was in high school, but I never did get the hang of that." She shrugged. "But, no worries. I'm sorry about your job, though. That's... that's really awful."

Kim Nguyet
"Yeah... But I got over it. Im hoping a friend of mine got it... I think he was second in line for it." She shrugged. "They must have made up some bullshit reason why I havn't come back yet... I mean, I was only supposed to be here for one month, and it's sure been a lot more time that that."

"I was supposed to be working here," Cass said. "It was a nice little hotel resort, I was going to be a housekeeper, I know it doesn't sound like much but it would have been the best job I'd ever had, and.... I don't know what my family thinks. Maybe, as far as they know, I just went off to some island and never wrote to them, never came back around Christmas like we hoped." She sighed.

Kim Nguyet
"Mom..." She sighed. "I don't know how she took it... It was really hard on her when dad died... I was the only thing that she had left. She might have killed herself and ill never know... But it might be better that way." She didn't need more reasons to be down, after all.

"I'm sorry. I hope she's okay."

At least, she had to suppose, her parents still had her sister. And maybe someone had at least thought to tell them that the plane went down.

She hoped.

"I don't suppose it's very likely we'll ever get back to our old lives. Even if we get off this damn island, most of us will be so... changed. I certainly can't go back to my old job. Can you imagine this face in the checkout line at the grocery store?" She gestured to herself with a half-hearted grin.

Kim Nguyet
"That'll sure be entertaining. And can you see me typing code at some kind of decent speed ?" She smilled, wriggling her fingers. "As sad as it sounds, we're better here... It's near impossible for most of the people who changed to be able to re-integrate society... More so because most people are assholes that can't handle differences." Kim began trying to pull the water out of her hair again. "First think we'll know we would have maniacs no better to Moreau trying to study us like if we dropped from another planet. I've been wondering about trying to find a way out, but that was before I changed... And I changed without an injection, so even if I had managed it... Maybe I would have changed anyway. And then ill'd be in serious s**t, you know ? It's probably better for her to think im dead than to know the truth."

Hopefully that had made some kind of sence.

"Without an injection," Cassidy murmured. "I do wonder how they managed that." She suppressed a shudder by clutching her shoulders tightly. She'd sort of hoped she'd be safe from any more changes for a while. She didn't relish the idea of changing with... people... everywhere.

"I couldn't go home, anyway... it gets cold where I grew up." She rubbed her eyes. "At least, most of the time, it's been decently warm here... not now... I just want to sleep all the time..."

Kim Nguyet
"Yeah, me too. The last few days have just been bad. At least I was deep in the jungle when it happened." For that, boy she was GLAD. "But it was also at night... So I completely lost north and blacked off."

Kim did look a bit sleepy herself, with her chin rested on her knees and the river of black framing her face. Her slanted eyes where squinted, but that seemed mostly so she could at least manage to see Cass with some kind of decentness. It was amazing that she didn't had any headache yet... She usually did when she went without her glasses for too long.

"You all right?" Cass asked. "I have to imagine that after getting as wet as you did, you'd be pretty cold. I'm cold, and I've just been sitting here."

She paused, then mumbled, "I just always want to sleep, now."

Kim Nguyet
"Been worse." Discovering her diabetes came to mind. "But definitively been better. Ill'd take a nap right about now..." She yawned a bit.

"Just until it stops raining," Cass said, also yawning. She tried to shake herself awake, but she was moving slowly, and the movement was ineffectual.

She laid her head down on the ground. "Don't mind me. Really..."

Kim Nguyet
By then, Kim had her eyes closed and had seen none of it, really. The only sign that she wasn't asleep was when she answered.

"Dum mind me 'either..."

Cassidy was so happy she thought she'd cry.

She scrambled through her condo on her knees, straight for the bathroom. She was hungry, of course, but she wasn't going to go to the cafeteria until she had her legs back on, and she might as well wash first.

She soaked for a long time, the water comfortably warm, not doing anything but staring at the ceiling. She was warm, and comfortable, and life was good again.

Okay.

She scrubbed for a long time, then, intent on removing every bit of mud from under her nails, every tangle in her hair, every bit of grime that had collected on her feathers. By the time that was done, what was left of her skin that was not scaly was red from scrubbing.

It was a glorious feeling.

If felt so good to be clean that afterwards, Cass drained the tub of the dirty water, and filled it again with clean, just so she could rinse properly and soak a little longer.

Eventually, her hunger got the better of her.

Cassidy crawled out of the tub, dried and dressed and strapped on her legs. It felt strange to wear them again after so long, but she felt sure she'd get used to it again. She supposed she'd have to.

Emelyn would have to get her shirt back at some point.

.... Vasile would have to get his clothes back, too. Cough, ahem.

Cassidy sat on her bed (so soft! So gloriously soft!), combed out her hair carefully, and too impatient to let it dry, braided it wet.

She had been almost suspecting that she would never see this place again. She thought she'd never seen such a nice thing as her books, right then.

"Think positive, girl," she mumbled to herself. "It was like camping, right? Just like girl guides. Now, you're back home."

She was too tired to properly register it all. Cassidy breathed slowly, and stood.

She was so hungry. She'd march right down to the cafeteria, order a big plate of rare steak, and eat it quickly, in the largest pieces she could manage. For once, she didn't care about how awful it probably looked to be swallowing chunks of meat whole. The thought of good, fresh food was unbearable. Life... would be normal again.

As normal as it got.

"And when I'm back," Cassidy said in the doorway, "I'll deal with you and see how you end."

She was pointing at the copy of Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars that had been resting on her bedside table this entire time, the bookmark perhaps two or three chapters away from the end.

Satisified, Cass hurried out and down the path to the cafeteria.

RP Log

Hunger had, at last, got the best of Cassidy. She came into the cafeteria with the staggered, uneven gait the prosthetic legs gave her, but a smile was on her face.

Really, it had barely left since she'd managed to have that bath.

She went through the line-up, got her now-customary plate of rare meat, and went to find a place to sit.

Zachary Bloodstone
This time around, Zach headed to the cafeteria with something to occupy him in the event he got caught in an awkward conversation. His notebook, something he'd had to dig deep into his bags to recoverer, was finally back in his one hand, along with a reliable pen. He was still working on a little entry into it, his first since the arrival on the island.

He wasn't really paying attention to the details around him, incredibly focused inward. He felt almost as though he were in a dream. This morning, he'd woken up and actually thought he was home, until he turned on the lights, giving him an empty feeling. It took him roughly a minute to realize the woman ahead of him in the cafeteria line was even more inconvenienced than himself, by a lack of two important limbs. The wobbly walking pointed to prosthetic legs. They were.... green?

So was the woman.

"I'll never get used to this," he murmured with a shudder. He sincerely hoped she hadn't heard that. He had a tendency to say the wrong thing.

Cassidy was vaguely aware of a hot spot in the line behind her that was vaguely person-shaped, and the odour of a person whom she did not know was on her tongue, but she still wasn't really conscious of him until he spoke.

She turned around to face him, and smiled. Had he been talking to her, or himself? She wasn't at all sure. Cass ventured closer. "Um, hi there." Oh, lord, but she must be a fright to see. "Did you say something?"

He only had one arm? That surprised her, a little, but she was the last person in the world to be remarking upon physical deficiencies, and she knew it.

Zachary Bloodstone
The notebook and pen clattered to the floor. He was beyond unaware of how rude he was staring the way he did. Not because of the legs. If anything, he'd congratulate her for having the sense to use the prosthetics.

No, he was staring at the scales. The girl seemed to be getting covered in green scales, all over, with a tinge of pinkish skin still visible on the front of her. Sick horror filled him. These doctors were insane... she was so reptilian... and the feathers... and the tongue...

His throat was caught again, and he couldn't answer her. Her step forward was a step backward for him. Just because these islanders never attacked him didn't mean he was still deeply frightened of their changes. He'd pay later, it was unavoidable, but he simply didn't want to witness it. He tried to calm himself, which bought him enough willpower to say a little gibberish.

"I... y... no!"

"Oh no. Oh no." Cassidy hurriedly backed up. "I'm sorry. You must be new. I'm sorry."

She looked down at the plate of steak. It seemed to her that carrying around a plate of bleeding meat was not helping. After a quick glance around, she took it to the nearest table, left it there, and came back to the man, slowly. She tried to keep her distance, though; seeing that much horror directed at her was not pleasant.

"It's all right, really." She spread her hands in what she hoped was a friendly gesture. If she could just keep that tongue under control for a few minutes, maybe this would be okay. "I'm just here for a snack, same as you."

Zachary Bloodstone
He immediately went down to collect his two valuable possessions. Without his eyes on her, it seemed easier to talk to her. He was going to be apologizing for years on this island. The lizard tongues were getting to him.

"I-I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have- I mean it was my fault - you didn't do anything. I'll be used to you in no time. Don't mind me."

Learn some ******** self control, he thought to himself. He could seriously use it. It always disappeared when he needed it most. That sad look in her eyes practically killed him. He knew exactly how she felt, and it was so callous of him to be reacting like he did...

He looked up again as he rose, pen and notebook in hand again, and shifted his arm to hold them against his chest.

"Yyeah... I'm new here. It's not... pleasant. I know what's going on here, I just... well... it's still a shock to see people that are..."

Oh, why didn't he shut himself up?

"I know. It's always a little shocking." Cassidy looked awkwardly away. "Hell, sometimes in the mirror..." She trailed off. "It'll get better."

This, dear girl, she told herself, is karma for that crack about Ambrose looking like a horror movie reject, back in the day. Aloud, she said, "Do you need to sit down? I could get you some water, if you thought that might help... I really didn't mean to..."

Zachary Bloodstone
"Oh no, it's okay, I can get some myself." He didn't want her to trip if she got too agitated while walking on those legs. "I'll just grab some food myself. I'm really sorry to have interrupted you."

He was reminded, somehow, of disease. This whole transformation issue... a terrible epidemic on the island. It seemed sort of like leprosy. He was happy he had yet to actually touch another islander.

Zach put his things down on a tray and grabbed a hamburger almost unconsciously. Why...? He didn't like meat. Realizing he couldn't put it back, he decided to live with it. It was only once. He also took some water, at her suggestion.

He followed her to where she sat, setting his stuff down across from her. He'd just befriend as many crea- people as he could here. He didn't want to end up in another situation like he had with the first islander he encountered, Antony. That lady would kill him. He tried the questions the scaled girl wou'd be able to answer most easily.

"So what's your name? And what is it that you're... becoming?" There were so many blunter ways to phrase that question.

"I'm Cassidy. You can call me Cass, most people do." She smiled slightly, trying to be careful not to show her fangs. "As for my serum..."

Ugh. What a conversation that had been. Sabin had just stood there and grinned at her, like she was supposed to be happy about it.

"I'm a hybrid," she said at last. "There's a few of us around, I know that, they told me, but I'm not really sure who else. Mostly green tree python." She had it written down on a scrap of paper in her room, just so she wouldn't forget. "I... I sort of... I really hate snakes. They decided to give me some macaw wings on top of that, later." It sounded like her own death sentence. "Hence the feathers. To make it easier on me, they said."

It occurred to Cassidy that she was venting at this poor guy, and that was the last thing he needed. "I'm sorry. You don't need to hear this. Sometimes, I just get talking... What about you?"

Zachary Bloodstone
"Pleased to meet you, Cass. I'm Zachary." He smiled weakly.

Sabin was definitely doing an abundance of injections here, if the census Zach had was anything to go by. Sabin injected him, too, which made him wary of what kind of simpleminded choice the doctor had made for him. His mind slid away from the question of what he'd become. Again. He didn't like to think of it as an absolute. It was, but he carefully kept it from being one in his mind. It was the only way to psychologically survive.

"A python..." Snakes were creepy-looking. Her fear was justifiable, but he said nothing about that. "So your legs... were there to begin with?" Certainly seemed so. If she was becoming a snake, then it would stand to reason she'd have to look like one in every way. "God, that man is a sadist."

Feathers sounded like, if anything, an even more stressful burden for the girl. He didn't want to comment - they were beautiful feathers, but still - what the hell was Sabin thinking?? These were feathers growing right out of Cass's SKIN.

"I don't know what I'm going to be... I don't want to ask, either. I just... I can't even think about it. The whole thing seems surreal." And if anyone actually tried to tell him what he would be, he'd never believe them. I'm not going to change... I'm not going to change...

"Nice to meet you, too, Zachary."

Cassidy looked down. "Yeah, I used to have proper legs and feet and everything, but the last injection..." She winced at the memory. That had hurt. "They told me that I'll likely lose them entirely, or have some weird vestigal things... they weren't even sure of that!"

She was getting angry, just a little. She took a slow breath. "I don't blame you for not wanting to know. I only asked because... well, after the feathers, I thought I was going insane."

Sometimes she still wondered.

"For what it's worth... I hope you got something good, as far as it goes."

Cass suddenly shook herself. "I'm sorry. I'd nearly forgotten, after so long... the air conditioning in here really gets to me, sometimes. It's the cold-bloodedness, you know." She didn't look straight at him, rather embarassed about it. "I'll leave you to your burger."

She stood, wobbling slightly as she found her balance, and picked up her plate. "I'll see you around, maybe."

Journal Entry

I think I had forgotten.

There weren't any mirrors out in the jungle. It was easier to forget what I look like. And this poor new guy... I forgot...

I'm still me. I mean, I hope so.

A part of me misses being out in the wild. I realise that's insane. I am so glad to have my books and my tub and my bed. But...

Honestly, I don't really regret it.

Whatever happened... if anyone does know what, no one's thought to tell me, and I guess I'll eventually find out... whatever happened, I don't really regret the whole thing.

I mean, s**t happens. I would've liked to be prepared, I guess, but really...

I hadn't realised how much I want the trees. I can't believe I'm saying this, it makes no sense at all. But the entire time I was sleeping out on the ground, I wanted to be up in the branches. I probably would have tried it, but... well, I never had a great head for heights (though, waking up in that tree the first day wasn't as bad as it would have been otherwise, and I have to wonder if instincts have something to do with that), and it was a bit frightening to think of climbing trees anymore than I had to, what with no proper legs. I couldn't have done it at all without my tail.

(There's something I never thought I'd say.)

It scares me, as interesting as it is. If I have these urges now, when I can't act on them because I'm stuck rather awkwardly halfway between human and snake, what will it be like when I'm further along? I could see a part of myself being very glad to retreat into the trees and eat... oh, I don't know. Birds and lizards and crap.

Poor Zachary, though. He was pretty horrified by me... I hope they haven't given him something reptilian, too. I couldn't wish this on anyone, but he seemed really bothered by it in particular. Maybe he'll have something easier for him. I hope so. He seemed nice.

RP Log

This, now, was all right. Warm morning sun, a full stomach, and a good book. If the beach was empty, Cass would probably end up kicking off her legs and just flopping down on the sand without them. As useful as they were, they got a bit uncomfortable.

She stretched, rolled her neck, and gave herself a shake that left her feathers inadvertantly fluffed. Now, she needed a good patch of sand, maybe a bit of driftwood to lean against, and Cassidy would be quite oblivious to the world around her. A little escapism never hurt anyone, right?

Better not have.

Cass looked around, her tongue flickering.

Antoinette Devereux
Antony had been surfing since sunrise, in a much better mood after an afternoon with Jamal. She was even pleased to find out that those three tails aided her balance quite well.

Therefore, the tattooed woman was in a lovely mood when she came sauntering out of the water. Seeing an unfamiliar woman just up the beach, Antony veered towards her after scooping up her bag and towel.

Might as well meet people while she was in a good mood right?

Board under arm, she stopped in front of the feathered and scaled and gave a sweeping wave in greeting after dumping her bag on the sand. "Hello," she greeted, shoving her board into the sand so it would stand upright on its own. Towel was now making its way over her body as she dried off. "I'm Antony..."

"I'm Cassidy. Hi." Cass grinned. She clutched her book and wobbled on the sand, and her tongue gave another curious flicker of its own accord.

The tattoos actually caught her attention before before anything else. Absolutely gorgeous, especially the left sleeve. Not her thing, maybe, though she'd always been a bit tempted.

She was staring. Oh, hell. What a way to make a first impression.

Wait. That was rather more than the usual number of tails, wasn't it? That had to have hurt like anything.

Hoping to distract from her brief tattoo fascination, and definitely hoping Antony wouldn't take it badly, Cass said, "You surf?" An obvious question, perhaps. "I always wanted to try that."

Antoinette Devereux
"Pleasure," she replied, raising an eyebrow as the woman continued to look at her tattoos, but simply smiling and taking the impressed expression as a compliment.

"Yeah, picked it up back around high school," Antony grinned, rubbing her board fondly in an almost caressing fashion. "It's fun once you get the hang of it. I could teach you..."

Her eyes caught sight of the artificial legs and she immediately trailed off, suddenly very interested in drying off her hair with the towel. "Eh, maybe knee boarding if you're up for it."

Wow, she was in a pleasant mood today.

"Knee boarding might be a little more my speed," Cassidy admitted, with a small laugh.

For now, it might be. Ugh. Don't think about that.

"Forgive me, really, but your tattoos are so nice. I think I might be a little jealous," she added, rather embarrassed. She could see the fur growing up over Antony's shoulders; it seemed an awful shame, after all that work.

She squinted, and ventured the question that most people with tattoos get tired of hearing: "Did it hurt?"

Antoinette Devereux
"Thanks, I'm a tattoo artist myself actually," she said with a grin, and it was obvious that this was something she truely loved.

The next question didn't surprise Antony. It was a question she must have answered thousands of times before, along with pricing questions and procedure questions. "It depends on where you get it, the size, and how intricate the design chosen is. For example, if there isn't much 'meat' between the bone and the skin, like your hip or breast bone... it'll hurt more. And then there's pain tolerance and the like. You get the idea."

Antony chuckled softly, rubbing the towel over her short hair once more before slinging the towel over her shoulders.

Cass nodded. "Yeah, I suppose that makes sense."

At least it was a better answer than those people who had told her it didn't hurt, which sounded crazy to her. It was a giant needle, how could it not hurt?

"A tattoo artist? Really! I don't think I could do that, really, even if I had any sort of artistic talent." She grinned bashfully. "I can't imagine myself jabbing needles in people on purpose. I did use to sort of play with the idea of getting a tattoo someday, but I never did."

She didn't think scales would take a tattoo very well, if it came to that.

Antoinette Devereux
Antony gave a proud smile, positively beaming that Cass was so interested and excited that she was a tattoo artist. This all together boosted her ego as well as her mood. "Well... I didn't jab my customers..." She smiled as she corrected the snake girl.

"I miss my jobs, can't do either on the island because I don't have the equipment ya know?" Sighing, Antony looked sad about this, but the emotion wasn't visible for long. "If I had everything I needed, then I could ink you, but I won't do it without sterilized equipment."

She had always been a stickler for that.

Cassidy smiled, twisting her fingers around her book. "It'd have to be sterilized, of course." She could recall her mother telling her horror stories about hepatitis when she's learned of her daughter's vague interest in tattoos. "But honestly..."

She looked uneasily down at her forearms. "I don't know how well that would work on me. I've never heard of anyone tattooing scales."

Antoinette Devereux
"Me either," she began, frowning thoughtfully while looking the blonde over, "Are you... All scales? Because if you're not then I could tattoo there for sure... That is, considering I could get the equipment and whatnot..." Antony trailed off, chewing on her lip ring while her tails twitched behind her.

"Not... entirely." Cassidy looked away, rather embarassed. "Down my throat, my stomach. That's really it." And lower, but she was not about to start talking about that with Antony.

She hesitated, and said, "Though it might be a waste. I'd hate for you to do that--which would be really great of you, even if I could ever decide on something--and then have... well. Scales grow over it." She grimaced.

Antoinette Devereux
"Well, we don't have to worry about it... Because I don't have any of my equipment on the island," she shrugged, glancing down to her pale skin and then up towards the sun. "s**t, I'm going to get burned..."

Her sunscreen had probably washed off during her surfing, and thanks to her transformation, Antony was more prone to burning now. "I best go. It was nice meeting you."

With a smile, the tattooed woman picked up her bag and then surfboard before heading back towards the duplexes for a shower.
