Ian gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Tides," he said. "I'll bet the Doctor shose this island beause tides would bring any shipwrecked people here." Ian knew nothing about tides, but Moreau was smart, he had probably thought shipwrecks in the Bermuda Triangle would bring in plenty of victims, and he chose an island that the tides crossed. "That sone of a...." Ian stopped his sentence unsure of what the woman thought of the use of expletives.

"-b***h." She finished the sentence for him, and smiled again.
Emerwyn had a different theory. "I felt something strange when the ship began to go under. Like a very heavy jolt. It's either the ship was over some rocks or, my personal theory, the Doctor has some kind of mechanism or technology to sink ships. Of course, when people are lost at sea, there's not much hope in finding them... I'm as good as dead to the outside world."

Ian gave a growl-like noise. "Makes me want to hurt him. He has no right......." Ian's fist clenched then relaxed. "Hurting him'll do no good...he's too smart for that." Ian listened as Emerwyn said she was as good as dead. He nodded slowly "Better that people think you are dead then them waiting back at home for you to return. Less pressure that way." Ian winced as he thought of James, wondering if the little brother thought him dead. "I am probably known as dead by now." he sighed, he was supposed to be helping cheer up Emerwyn, not get all depressed himself. He forced a smile. "On the bright side it means you aren't always getting pestered by wayward relatives."

Emerwyn smiled grimly at Ian's attempt at consoling. "But it hurts. If my... friend is still alive himself... and there's still a chance that I could..." No! she told herself angerly. Don't start that again! It only hurts more every time you think of him! "I suppose this is an island of lost souls..."

Lost souls That comment hit Ian like a rock. It was true. He himself was also lost, he had outwardly adapted but inwardly he wasn't quite ready to accept being stuck here. "I'm sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to bring up anything painful. I don't want to be stuck here either. All my life I was searching for somewhere to belong. I really don't think here is it." Ian sighed. "I have to get back to my duplex, it's getting really quiet." That was true, the animals had stopped calling to one another, "Will you walk with me? That way neither of us get lonely?"

"That's alright," she said.
After all of this is over, none of us will ever belong... Ian must have been more aware of his surroundings than Emerwyn, but she could not deny a strange still in the air. She had spent too long in the city.
The prospect of not being lonely was one Emerwyn could not yet fathom, but she did not delay in accepting the request. She set off with Ian, and tilted her face to the sky, breathing in the cooling evening air.
Maybe we can belong here... alike in all our differences.

Ian walked leisurely towards the edge of the jungle where he knew the duplexes lay. They reached them in good time and Ian bade farewell to Emerwyn smiling and heading back to his own duplex in a rather good mood.

Emerwyn waved herself and walked towards her duplex. She looked up once again at the night sky. A new beginning? I guess I could do that...

The door to her room shut.
When she went to sleep that night, the nightmare did not haunt her dreams.

"uuuughhhnnnhh." Emerwyn leaned up against a tree, only a little ways into the jungle. She needed some fresh air. Last night was awful. After she'd left Greer's duplex, she ran home, and got sick for well over an hour. She didn't even know there was that much in her to begin with. She passed on breakfast. After last night, she didn't want to look at food ever again.
She sank down onto the grassy floor and held her stomach.
Her hand found its way to the tree she was leaning on, and began absent-mindedly picking at the bark. A large piece came off.
She inspected it, then began to gnaw on it.
Not bad...

Timothy wandered around the jungle follage he often came out here to think. On lyrics, life, stuff like that. He heard a bit of a rustling comming from up the way.

"Hello?" he said, the last time he'd done this he'd ran into Colche.

He started walking towards the sound of the noise "Who's there?"

Emerwyn looked up at the sound of the voice. She recognized it - she'd lose track of names, but never voices. This was the singer. His voice was sweet and soft.
Was his name Timothy? Yes, that was it.
She quickly dropped the bark she'd been nibbling on; she barely even realized she had been.

"Oh, hello, Timothy!" She said, as cheerfully as she could, and stood up slowly.

"Oh hey... Emerwyn was it?" Timothy reached out his hand, his guitar was on his back.

"Nice to see you again... what are you doing out here?" he smiled.

Emerwyn sighed heavily before speaking again. She was feeling really sick.
"I just needed a little bit of fresh air." Each sentence trailed off into barely audible sounds. She looked at his hand. "I'm not sure if I'm contagious." Of course, she didn't think she was at all, but she didn't feel like going into her theory.
"What about you? Does the Muse call you here?"

"Well I gotta admit, hate what is happening to me or not this island has really helped me think about music." Timothy shrugged.

"Problem is, it's not exactly like I'll be recording an album soon. So I guess it doesn't matter much." Timothy shook his head.

"I kind of like it, but the idea of being stuck here... I don't know, it's gonna take a while to get used to."

"Ironic. Just like my entire existence." Emerwyn smiled grimly.

"My thought is it doesn't matter whether you're published or not... as long as there's at least one person you make happy with your music... at least, that's how I feel when I write. But I haven't written at all since I got here..."

"Getting used to this place? I can't even fathom."
