"Sometimes like children?" Siran said drolly. "Perhaps your Kenthoth is old enough to behave in a more matured manner, but Tiranth seems not to have outgrown it, for all that she hatched from the same clutch as Ariath." I am no hatchling Tiranth hissed almost peevishly. It was obvious, though, that she was not entirely serious about her rancor. "A pleasure as well, Ch'dri. My family trotted me off to take lessons at the Harper Hall when I was but a lass, so I have some familiarity with Fort."

L'mur made a face at his own predicament. "Aren't you the talkative one!" he exclaimed, so both riders and the green could hear. And I'm very glad to be a rider, he said privately. Especially when I have such excellent company.
The red-headed youth turned back to Ch'dri. "I'm hoping my younger sister will come down here, at least for a visit. My parents and brothers aren't likely to, though." He shrugged. "In any case, it's a pleasure to meet you, Siran. (edit) Oh, you were at the Harper Hall as well?"

He laughed then, careful not to lose his klah anywhere. "Kenthoth actually is mroe like a mother wherry-"
Hey now!
"-in his need to look afte me. And, well... sometimes mature, sometimes chidlish. Like me, I suppose." He ran a hand through his blonde hair, sleeve sliding on his jacket toexpose a few old scars. "I never ahd the interest to take to Harpering, but I respect them. I followed my father's path in Tanner work until I was chosen as a candidate. Was encouraged by him even. Never did get to the Hall for the Harpers, though I was temepred a few times."
On the mention of family he took a swig of the khal and looked down int he cup. "I've a large family, my father's ... recently injured and likely unable to continue, and most of my siblings are scattered about. Doubt I'm going to see any of them here. Been trying to contact one of my sisters, no idea where she is at this point." He shrugged then. "But family is good to have about."

Siran shook her head, laughing just a bit at Ch'dri's response. "Actually, I was never a harper. It's what my mother wanted me to be, but we can see where that got me, yes?" She grinned a bit at L'mur's confusion, extending a welcoming hand to him. "I like a good ballad just as much as anyone, but I'm afraid I've had my fill of poorly sung ones. Never could quite handle the out of tune and off key early morning practices." She was quite content to be a rider, most especially as she had the undivided (questionable) attentions of Tiranth. You are most excellent yourself, L'mur. The green was clearly preening, probably lounging quite happily across her hollow in Siran's weyr. "Personally, I could do with a bit fewer visits from family." And she meant it, too. The last time her parents had come to visit her, they'd expected to have most of her time devoted to them.

"Ahhh, I see." L'mur nodded at the greenrider's explanation. "I can certainly sympathize-- some people just have no sense of pitch. Or rhythm." He winced dramatically, (mostly) joking. I'm sure my lovely Saranth would agree! he shot back at Tiranth, thoroughly amused by her flirtation.

Ch'dri smirked slightly. "I usually have to find them, if I'm lucky enough to know where they're at. Kind of happens when you have family scattered through Halls and Hold. Hope someeon comes visit me once they know."
He played with the jacket awhile, stretching. "I'll count myself glad I entured the rigors of Tanner training then listen to the play of pitch gone wrong. Dragon crooning is enugh for me!"

L'mur sipped at his almost-forgotten klah. "But dragons and music have been connected for generations. Just think how many of the teaching ballads are about dragons, or Weyrlife, or Thread," he pointed out.

"I'd much rather have been a tanner than taken 'singing' lessons at the Hall. You harpers are lovely, L'mur, but there are enough of you to include the untalented... and sometimes the overambitious." Siran smiled with a bit of dismay riding on the edge of her expression, remembering one such 'ambitious' journeyman. There had been chords in his piece that she swore blind did not exist. Saranth is wise to think so. Tiranth said decisively. The movement of Ch'dri's jacket caught Siran's eye, and she watched him play with it a bit before returning her gaze to the pair of riders. "Well then... we'd better hope that the Weyr chooses good musicians, eh?"

"True that," he said, scratching at his chin thoughtfully. "But then, dragons are a part of life here no matter what because of Thread. Without the dragons, things would be worse, so of course there is so much about them."
He downed the alst of the klah, thinking a moment with his eyes closed. "I always prefered working with my hands anyway or being active, then to be idle, no offense. My patience and talents don't lend well to being a Harper, though some say I have a decent voice."
He shrugged slightly. "Being a Tanenr was good work, I adored it. I think it pleased my father a lot too that I did, until I was found during a Search. None of my other siblings really considered following him but me."

"Tanning is awfully messy, though. Useful, but it used to turn my stomach something horrible." And I'm sure she appreciates such a high commendation of her cognitive powers! L'mur stifled a grin at that remark. "At least one of the other new weyrlings is harper-trained as well."

"But messy is fun," he said with a grin. "I'm sure Kenthoth can attest to that one."
I figure when bathtime comes, you need a workout and I need to make bathing worth it. Somewhat bemused in tone.
He rolled his eyes, smiling. "I guess living around it my whole life pretty much it never bothered me much."

"I have a brother who's a journeyman tanner, and my father raises herdbeasts, so I suppose I got used to it. It's really the fumes that bother me, instead of the messiness." L'mur snickered, imagining the large bronze flailing around while his rider tried futilely to wash him.

"Messy means oiling, bathing and re-oiling Tiranth." I'm positive that you plan those baths and oiling sessions for the moment when I am just about to eat. Tiranth made no response to her rider, instead speaking to L'mur. She should appreciate commendations, most especially from her elders. The green made it sound as if she was an age older than Saranth, for all that she was merely her mother's nestmate. "Harper trained weyrlings, eh?" Perhaps one of them would be the new Weyrsinger.

He laughed lightly. "Kenthoth's seven turns now at the least, and he's learned to time it around when I do things, thankfully. Aside certain moments of their own. With time comes settling down into routines."
He set the cup down. "And tanning I suppose is aquired taste or by desire - everyoen ahs their own inclinations. We need harpers as much as we need riders, healers, and the other crafts. So perhaps we should be thankful."
Now, that lent promise to have a few harper-trained riders. Always healthy for the guild, and gave choices in the need for Weyrsingers. He was comfortable howevre where he was as a wingrider and nothing more. And more thankful to be away from Fort, before the queen decided to rise. Odds of Kenthoth catching her were hgih and he'd rather kiss thread then...
New times, Chi, new times.
I know... I know. I'm glad to be here. Seems a much better lot fo people, as well.
Good you're happy and talking with other riders. makes me content. Almost as much as the sun.
He smirked slightly, shaking his head. "Anything I should know about here?"
