"Wonderful," Aliya commented, though there was no mirth in her voice. Then she smiled. "Ah well, why don't I just show you around then until we find her? We've got to run into her somewhere, after all, right?"
She looked around and spotted one of the hired hands heading from the Ranch House in the direction of the barracks. "Oh, there's Elros," she smiled. "We can ask him if he's seen her, he's very observant."
He was also incredibly tall. Elros, easily the oldest elf on the ranch, was very close to eight feet tall, and made everyone look short. He had very fair hair and icy blue eyes that seemed as though the could look right down into your soul - and who knew? Perhaps they could. He knew things that no one else did, but shared little of his knowledge voluntarily. Aliya, personally, found him to be a little creepy - but she liked him nonetheless.
"I see," Halmír nodded, though his tone made it perfectly clear that he was still confused. He smiled again. "At any rate, you are my employer's daughter, are you not? I assume, then, that it means that your father would be here as well."
Ulrich nodded seriously at Lin. "Yes, it's rude of people to speak a language that not everyone there knows," he agreed, "although I do also admit that sometimes it can't be helped, if there is no language that everyone knows. On the other hand, Ruel is the type to use that to his advantage, and say rude things, thinking that it doesn't matter because the subject of his rudeness can't understand him."
He shook his head sadly. "Elrohir told me that Elnara came to visit ... and about how Ruel reacted, how he acted. The fool ... he should know better."

Ryu looked to see an elf that would even make Lore look short, acutally he was pretty sure that man was taller than Lore. He followed Aliya towards the elf, and hoped that if not him someone had spotted the wayward mermaid.
"He should be arriving soon," Feng replied, "My brother and I went ahead with Aliya."
Since to be technical Donovan was her father, even though there had been no marriage yet, but she was sure that Halmir would want to know when Donovan was coming. After all, no one had seen their employer yet.

Lin mused on this, she had a feeling she knew what Elrohir had been talking about. She looked up at Ulrich thoughtfully, she wondered if she really wanted to know what Ruel said to her.
"If it makes you feel any better..." Lin ventured, "Celebor punched him... in the jaw."

"Elros!" Aliya called out, breaking into a jog to catch up with the elf.
Elros stopped and turned to face Aliya and Ryu, allowing them to catch up with him. He remained silent, but rested his cool blue eyes on Ryu, his face expressionless.
"Elros, have you seen a human-looking girl around?" Aliya asked, coming to a stop only a small distance away from the tall elf. "She looked kind of like him" - she indicated Ryu - "but she has really really long hair and yellow pants. She would have been somewhere around here in the last ten minutes or so."
Elros blinked slowly and nodded his head once, keeping his gaze on Ryu.
"I saw a young woman of that description," he replied in a soft, gentle voice, "not long ago. She was running in the direction of the field." He blinked again, just as slowly, giving off the impression that he was slow all around.
Ulrich chuckled again, though it was just a soft laugh this time. "Aye, I can see him doing that," he nodded, amused. "Good for him. Ruel needs someone to stand up to him, let him know when he's out of line. And knowing Elnara ... I'm sure she needed the support."
Halmír's eyes lit up again when Feng mentioned Aliya. "Ah, you came with her!" he exclaimed. "Wonderful!"
He looked thoughtful for a moment, and he stared at Feng unashamedly, examining her from head to toe.

The first thought to spring to Ryu's mind was that the man would give Donovan a run for his money in who could keep a straight face the longest. The second thought was a wondering of what was going through Elros' mind, somehow he felt like he was being weighed. Though for the life of him he didn't know why he felt that way or why if it was true Elros would do so.
Feng blinked wondering if there was something about Aliya that reminded him of something. Perhaps she looked a bit out of a place? That was always quite possible.
"So...." Feng ventured, "You know Aliya?"

"Well Earendil's Mommy didn't look so happy neither, she dragged him out," Lin murmured, "I think he embarassed her."
Though she couldn't tell since she couldn't hear but she got that impression, not to mention he did already got yelled at.
"He's always so grumpy," Lin added ,"I tried to suggested sweetening, but Earendil said it wouldn't work."
Donovan groaned at that, throughually embarassed because he knew what caused Lin to believe that. For some reason the little girl thought it to be a fact of life.
"Lin..."

"You're never going to live that one down are you?" Triton asked Donovan.
Though he knew the answer to that one, poor guy. One of the few times he actually acted like a person instead of a hard a**, and Lin catches him.

Aliya smiled at Elros. "Thank you," she said brightly, then turned to Ryu and said, "Come on, let's go find her!" She took off once again in the direction of the field, waving over her shoulder to Elros.
The tall elf merely nodded, still expressionless, then nodded politely to Ryu and turned and headed once more for the barracks.
Halmír chuckled. "Know her?" he repeated. "Indeed ... and I was wondering if perhaps I might be able to ask a favour of you ... if you don't mind."
He was getting a look in his eyes, like a child on his birthday, as if he had just received the best gift possible.
Ulrich decided then and there that Lin was his new source of entertainment and information, and he focused his attention on her. "What's this idea of sweetening?" he asked her curiously. "Would you mind explaining it to me? I've never heard of it before."

Ryu nodded back before hurrying to join Aliya on their search for Feng. He just hoped that his sister hadn't gotten into too much trouble while he was watching Aliya.
There was a slight tingle down her spine, for his look reminded her vaguely of her brother Helen. Only, he didn't look like he was going to eat her, which is probably want put her at ease.
She thought about it for a moment, had it been Donovan or even her brother he would have asked what was the favour. Unfortunately this was Feng, "Okay."
Cindy coughed, for she had heard the story actually, it was pretty hard not to. It was difficult enough to get privacy in the inn. Though asking Lin where the logic lied in sweetening.. well.

Donovan glared at Ulrich, only because he couldn't tell Lin to not tell, because then she would ask why and then he would have to explain that part, and he didn't want to explain that part. He had enough issues already as it were.
Lin didn't notice, she was all too happy to explain this wonderful concept she called sweetening a person, "Well.. when people become grumpy it's because they're not sweet anymore, that's why sometimes people call them sourpuss. If you give them sugar then you sweeten them, they become sweet and less grumpy. Or just not grumpy and they become really nice, and they smile... and..."
That explaination though was a long process of evolution from the first time Lin had introduced the idea. In which to say she originally didn't know, but now she did.

Triton blinked, and he blinked.... he stared at his little sister. The frightening part of it, from a child's point of view that explanation made a lot of sense, which kind of frightened him.
"How did you come up with that sort of logic?" he muttered.

Aliya led Ryu to the field, which was behind the barracks, and looked around. There were many elves in the field, but no Feng. She turned around to talk to Ryu again, and spotted Feng behind the barracks, talking with Halmír. She laughed softly to herself.
"Well, it looks like I'll be introducing you earlier than I realized," she told Ryu with a laugh. "Feng's found him already." She pointed to show him.
Halmír clasped his hands behind his back, and if he had been three feet shorter and a lot less scarred, he might have looked like an innocent little boy asking for a present - though his eyes still had the innocent look.
"Would you do me the honour," he said solemnly, "of allowing me to take your likeness along with Aliya?"
Ulrich chuckled a bit. "Well, that does make sense," he agreed with Lin. "Why then did Eärendil tell you that it wouldn't work?"

Ryu looked and was glad to see his sister, it looked like she got along very well with others. Which he wasn't surprised, she was always friendly he thought.
"So that is the friend you were talking about?" he asked with a smile.
"Take my likeness?" Feng inquired she thought about it for a moment or two, until she realized he meant her picture, "Oh..." she nodded slowly, "I'm fine with that."
She had never been asked before if someone could draw a picture of her, so she was quite surprised. Though she thought, perhaps he liked art, like her sister.

Lin pouted a bit, "He said that all the sweetening wouldn't make his Daddy any sweeter, or was that Daeron. Well one of them said it wouldn't work because he would still be a grump," Lin paused a bit, "And Elnara said that it only worked on Daddy and Storm."
Donovan rolled his eyes at that, of course Elnara would say something like that, though he didn't know why she included Storm into that.

Aliya laughed and nodded. "He's the only one who really goes out of his way to talk to me, and he's always so funny." She started leading the way over to them. "He's a little odd sometimes, but he's an amazing fighter ... not that you can tell by talking with him."
She smiled. "He's been painting my portrait since the day I met him ... a few months now. I can't wait until it's finished ... he never lets me look at it. He says a work in progress is not worth looking at because the beauty can never compare to the finished product."
Halmír clapped his hands like a child. "Thank you!" he said excitedly. "Ah, you have no idea how hard it can be to find such a stimulating subject, the beauties of this place wear thin after a while ... to be able to capture your beauty forever on paper is an honour, a great honour ..."
Ulrich tried not to laugh again and looked at Lin. "Well ... he did seem happier when Idhril gave him extra cookies," he admitted, "but Eärendil is quite correct about his father. There is very little if anything that can be done to make him any sweeter. The only one who even has a chance of that is Lúthien, and even she doesn't always have luck on her side."
