I'm not going to go on another Ye Olde Porne tangent (see the SK thread), but suffice to say there were plenty of ways Erik could get his 'secks ed' if he were so inclined.

The voyeurism would just be a bonus. xD Oh, come on.... you know he'd do it. He's amoral and lonely, and it's not like anyone is going to find out. Besides, he's already got the conveniently placed trapdoors.

You know, once you do a little historical research into the right subjects, Leroux's Erik becomes incredibly dirty-minded. For one thing, did you know that the Bois de Boulogne, where he took Christine for carriage rides, was well known as a lover's lane at the time?

eek
Ew. Bleh. Gross. Disgusting.

Going with the other thread with Colm Wilkinson on it, I realize now I DON'T want to see Colm Wilkinson doing Phantom onstage. Especially once he does Don Juan. *shudder* And I thought the age difference between Gerard and Emmy was big enough... Colm is just too old.

'Deranged, socially inept, FOURTY SIX YEAR OLD virgin'. And that was back in 1990 when he did Phantom in Toronto. rofl

Which part is so disgusting?

And hey, Michael Crawford was 44 when he first did Phantom and didn't leave the cast until he was 49.

~Think I would die~

Wasn't the oldest ALW Phantom 63?

That sounds about right, though I can't remember who it was.

He wanted to get it on with her. Listen to the lyrics of Point of No Return a little closer. It will explain all.

~Think I would die~

I'm wondering if you guys know that Don Juan is actually a poem that Erik based his opera on (Wikipedia makes me happy inside). And considering that Erik had been writing Don Juan Triumphant for twenty years, his sexual repressions that were included in it probably weren't exclusively for Christine.

On another note, I read that the youngest ALW Phantom was 24 and the oldest was indeed 63.

xp The Phantom I saw had John Cudia. His protrayal included a lot of caressing and stroking and looking like he was very, very horny. In fact, during around half of his stage-time with Christine I was thinking "Good God, Erik is one horny b*****d", especially Don Juan. While Christine was singing he was swaying like he just couldn't wait to take her in his arms and blah blah blah. He was stroking his own inner thighs for Chrissakes. I probably wasn't prepared for it because the sensuality was ten times what they had in the movie.

OK, maybe the older Phantoms wouldn't act like they were on the verge of doing the nasty onstage. And it just hit me that both Michael/Sarah and Gerard/Emmy had age differences of twenty years. But you'll have to forgive me if I prefer my age gaps young. Even Grade 12s dating Grade 10s can be creepy sometimes.

Mozart's Don Giovanni is also based on Byron's Don Juan. biggrin But, yeah... Erik's lifestyle/fuglyness kinda lends to a lot of sexual repression, although I don't think that's exclusively what his Don Juan was about. (Not that it's not implictly implied in the storyline, just that the way he emphasizes his Don Juan not being 'struck down by the fire of heaven' makes me think that it was more of a rebellion than just an outlet for sexual tension.)

Hate to break it to you Jusy, but PONR is always really steamy in the stage show. That's why I hated the movie PONR so much, with all it's blahness.

And Michael Crawford invented the thigh-stroking bit. I don't know which Christine started doing unspeakable things to the apple, but it's great anyway.

OK! OK! You win. sweatdrop You're clearly the expert here. Though hey, I've probably learned more about Phantom from Gaia than I've learned science from all my bloody classes combined. lol

*sigh* I need to see more musicals live.

I win? I didn't know it was a contest. xd There's just too much crap in my brain, and it leaks out all over the place.

Ya, PONR is alwayslike that. Except, after watching a few PONRs on Youtube, I realized that in the 2004 ALW one, Christine dresses REALLLY (pardon the word) slutty, onstage in her outfit, compared to the others. Also, have you noticed in MC's Music of the Night, he does this thing where he's sort of primping himself before Christine. He smooths his shirt with this weird look in his eyes, and puts his hands through his hair...It's hilarious to me.

I'd agree with you on that one. Emmy was kind of skinny for her Don Juan outfit. Her sleeves were bloody distracting, not that I'm complaining. xp Though, I personally prefer the movie "Think of Me" outfit even though it didn't fit the rest of the opera (as far as I know) the way that the play costume did. Being a quick change outfit, though, completely understandable.

Neither of the dresses really fit, considering the opera is set in Ancient Roman times and the dresses both have mid-18th century skirts. The stage one comes a little closer, though. It, at least, wasn't ripped off of a classic painting.

Ya, she looked anorexic in that outfit, and well Erik's pants in PONR, were, REALLY tight. I think they only made them like that so people would watch the movie, because you know the phrase 'sex sells', it applies. I never really got how they got from the MC PONR, to the 2004 movie one, they are intierly different. I like ther movie 'Think of Me' outfit better too, but I think the MC Carlotta was better than the movie.

Erik wore exceedingly tight pants in the 2004 movie because Joel Schumacher is a dirty old man obsessed with the sex appeal of 'young people'.

That's pretty much the blanket answer for every weird moment or disturbing costume in the movie; because Joel Schumacher is pervy.

And what be cool?
