SymphonicRain Cyanna I've been out of high school (and marching band) for a few years now. ^_^; But back in the day I played piccolo and marched for Immaculata High School in New Jersey. This year they competed in USSBA as a group V Open. eek I'm from Southern Regional High School. We tied with Immaculata for first in the USSBA championships and won the Coast Guard's special award. The kids called BS on the scores because we're a ToB band and we already knew they didn't want us to win. Other than that, in ACCs, we claimed back-to-back 1st Place in Group IV this year and last year. This year we won by .5 points. Only ones in the whole cometition to win Back-To-Back in like, 20 years. Only ones in NJ to win b-2-b at all.
NJ State Champs? I was there in the bleachers. You guys were AMAZING!
My mom and I really weren't expecting to win. We could sweep all the other competitions and then at Champs, something happens. We have never won States (until this year) and we haven't won a Grand Tournament since 1997. We have a history of coming in second by a tenth of a point. Sometimes, all of that makes it very easy to believe that no one wants us to win either. But I try to remain forever optimistic. I've got a lot of siblings that are going to be in that band. That's a lot of competitions to I've yet to watch.
But seeing you guys with your show, my mom and I were looking at each and thinking "We are definately not taking first here." The tie was a total and complete shock. I'm certainly glad we got it, but you guys definately deserved it.

Well if you're talking about Southern (assuming you might have seen them somewhere), I wholeheartedly agree. XD
If you mean IHS, thanks! biggrin As I mentioned in the USSBA thread I really loved your show as well. You guys can really put on a clean and polished show and I really enjoy looking out for you guys every year.
I don't know if you were marching in the 2003 season last year. Both your school and mine did music from Adiemus. I was in the bleachers at the Trenton Regional that year. Both bands ended with "Mare Crisium" but it was very interesting to see the two different takes on the music. smile

We are in that, but we don't go to many of their competitions, becuase we are more of a competitive band. Although in 2003... We did win Group IIA Championships there. Don't look down on us because of our score this year in USSBA tho.. it's the ONLY score we had through the season so yeah... but we did wind up getting a 93.3 At TOB finals tho, 6th Place group II, which is hard against bands such as Middle Township, Governor Livingston, and Pocono Mountain West. But yeah, we did pretty well for what we went from the previous year... (( 87.0, 17th Place. UGHH ))

Hello everybody. I'm from Highland Michigan. Tiny little town in MI.
I am graduated now but I used to be in the Milford High School Marching Band, we've faired pretty well in State, Regional, National competitions. It was a lot of fun. I played clarinet (and then a little flute and piano my senior year).
I was also in my school's jazz band playing the saxophone, that was fun too, we don't take part in any competitions, in fact the program is getting cut next year because they have less thatn 25 students, and the stupid people there are cutting any class under that amount....grrrrrr...oh well!

Um, hello. I'm from MD. My high school varies in the skill level of our band. Basically, we're divided into two groups: Wind Ensemble (the more advanced) and Concert Band (everyone else). Our Jazz Ensemble is the best in the County and our Marching Band places first in all events in the division....because nobody else competes. We have a tiny Marching Band. We made state festival this past year.

sourapplekicker I'm a Western New Yorker. Anyone else? heart I hail from Central New York, myself. Broadalbin--I highly doubt any of you have heard of it.
I haven't attended any band competitions recently, but I was in a few myself in intermediate school. In fourth grade we got second in regionals, and I think sixth grade we did as well. My school has an excellent band department, it's just a shame it's so small.
