Now I'm reading Dom Casmurro (also written by Machado de Assis) for school... I'm studying Realism in Brazil's literature subject.

Eiko, what are those books about? I've never read anything by a Brazilian author and if the library has something in translation I'd be curious to do so

*nods* I was on this Mock Trial thing sophmore year and we had to read these big packets of law stuff, and yeah, t'wasn't very interesting xd
At the moment, reading The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski. It's really good but highly, highly disturbing thanks to super graphic violence. Before that, Persepolis, I mildly good graphic novel about the Iranian Islamic Revolution, and Motherless Brooklyn, which was also pretty good.

Cassandra022 Eiko, what are those books about? I've never read anything by a Brazilian author and if the library has something in translation I'd be curious to do so Machado de Assis wrote lots of books, but those ones I read are awesome. They are quite hard to read in another language, in my opinion, but most of them are "Psychological Realism", the story isn't full of action and that makes things a bit complex and hard to understand. This Brazilian author always tried to write about how people think and act.
Memorias Postumas de Bras Cubas is about a guy that dies and, after his death, he decides to write about his memories, while Dom Casmurro is the memories of a man who marries with a girl called Capitu. They have a baby, but their son looks so alike his best friend that he suspects that his wife betrayed him.
Now I'm not reading anything, but I'll probably win Howl's Moving Castle book (in English) on Christmas. I can't wait to read it.

The longest book i have ever read in my life was The lord of the Rings...I actually have the three books in one , so it's over 3000pages...It's huge...It also includes "The Hobbit" Which is a pretty cool book too...

Well, if you consider all Tolkien's books, then its the longest book I've ever read too, because I read Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.

I've read Hobbit and the three LOTR, but nothing else by him. I wouldn't consider it all one book though, really sweatdrop
Not sure what would be the longest book, especially since print size variations and page size matters too, and I'm a book whore like woah. Some of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novels are pretty long. And I vaguely recall a fictional account of Cleopatra's life I read several years ago that was quite long...and some random fantasy books read ages ago which I cant remember at all...*shrugs*
Currently, A Pennant for the Kremlin by Paul Molloy, which is this super obscure cold-war era book I found in the school library, absoloutly hilarious and awesome 3nodding

I'm reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn because the school wants me to. I don't like seeing a certain word pop up often while I reading it. (Those who read it would know what I mean.)

Eh, it's not the length of the book that matters, it's the content. I currently need more books.
