Toby took a deep breath, let it out, and then undid his tie for the third time. He tied it again, just as carefully as before. It had to be perfect. Everything had to be perfect.
"Sorry," he said to Dari, who stood holding his cuff links. Dari waved it off and reached out to take the ends of his sleeves.
"What time is it?" Toby asked.
"We're still on time," Dari replied calmly.

Cody was standing near by. "You know, you're going to get wrinkles, worrying like that," he teased. How many times had he fixed that tie? "You look fine," he added, reassuringly. Everything would be fine.
Seeing the usually confident Toby like this was unique. Would their wedding be like this, too?

Three times so far.
"I can't get wrinkles," he said, then paused. "At least I don't think so?" He let Dari apply his cuff links with stiff arms like a child. Then the alien pulled out a tie clip.
"Are we ready for this, or are we going to fix our tie again?" Dari asked. Toby glared at him for a moment.
"It has to be perfect."
"Toby, it is perfect."
"But you only get one!"
Marriage, Dari assumed, not tie.

"Sure you can," Cody said, gestured to Toby's sleeve. Maybe teasing wasn't the best approach, though. "It's already perfect," he tried assuring him. The weather, even, seemed to be celebrating today. There was no wind, the sun was shining; it was a crisp spring day, but definitely not unpleasantly cool. "It'll be even more perfect after we get you out there."
He hoped Lori wasn't having trouble with Maia.

"Well then you can too," Toby replied. His worry had mostly been for the weather and RSVPs before, but that was before it felt like the day was here. Now it actually was. Cody's joke had apparently gone well over his head.
"I hope I don't fall on my a**." Apparently that was the new fear as Dari clipped his tie. Toby reached down to fix it again and Dari whacked his hand away.

"You won't," Cody promised. He was smiling as he put a hand on Toby's shoulder. "You won't. You'll go out, stand there--and then! Then you'll see her walking towards you. And she'll be beautiful." He couldn't guarantee Toby's coordination after that, though. "Just try to keep still?" He suggested.

"So helpful you are," Toby said, and although his tone was light and teasing there was no smile on his face. He was almost completely gone to the nerves. "I can't wait until you two are getting married so you can see what it's like."

"Well, we'll have plenty of practice," Cody said, and looking to Dari. "We have to go through two weddings before we get to ours!" He gave his fiancée a smile.
"You'll be fine," he said. "Really."

Dari smiled to Cody.
"I know, I know..." Toby said.
"Alright, I think you're done," the alien said then and stepped back to look Toby over.
"Are you sure you didn't forget anything?"
Dari just gave him a lingering look.
"Right," Toby said after a moment, "Right, sorry."

Maia was equally nervous. She was wringing her hands. She wished she could see Toby... But that was bad luck, wasn't it? The groom wasn't supposed to see the bride before the wedding. How many years bad luck was it? ...she wasn't sure.
"Lori, are you sure I look alright?" She fretted. Today was going to be perfect--but what if she tripped walking down the aisle?!

"You look beautiful," Lori reassured her. The lovely couple might be panicking, but the wedding party remained exceptionally relaxed. Lori had had to talk himself down for a minute, sure, but it had all happened on the inside. Now he was good. Nobody was going to be looking at him anyway. They were going to be looking at Maia. He had checked to be sure his beard was acceptable, however. He'd gone to an actual barber for it, which was a step up from the norm.
"Stop worrying. As soon as we get the word we'll head on over."

Maia hugged Lori tightly. She really appreciated him being there. She released him then and looked around. "I wish they'd hurry up," she fretted.
"Did you tell Seamus his job?" She asked.

"I'm sure your husband wants to get it going as much as you do," Lori said, paused briefly, and corrected himself. "Almost-husband." They were in that weird grey area.
"You've told him what his job is! He's smart. He thinks half like a person at least. He'll be good, don't worry about it."
As if on cue, Seamus appeared and meowed.
"I don't know what that means," Lori said. Seamus meowed again. Lori peered around the corner and saw Toby walking to his place.
Annie came in the other side. "Just a minute more and we can head out!" The music would cue them in, but it was good to give warning. Maia seemed nervous!

Lori was probably right. Poor Toby! He was probably so nervous... "oh, right," she murmured. Right, right. She'd told Seamus, and he'd never disappointed her before. He was smart, and as far as she knew, he had a good memory.
"Hi Seamus!" Maia greeted. The sight of the cat sidhe seemed to calm her nerves a little. "You look handsome today." She bent to pet him. She'd promised him cake after the wedding.
She looked up when Annie came in, giving her friend a smile. "Thank you," she said.

Seamus had even put on the bow tie asked of him, which the rings were attached to. He lifted his chin and purred.
"Breathe, honey, breathe!" Annie said with a laugh, "You want to remember this as a happy time."
