*There's a long pause before Maggie replies* I dinna believe there is any time that could be entirely right, or entirely wrong . . . not after having been here as long as I have.
*But her frown is even more of an uneasy one now. Kara's just about the last person on earth she's want to have teach her anything, but Maggie's already aware that there is a great deal she doesn't know. Is it really fair to Bard to rely on him to teach her everything? Especially concerning . . . . she bites at her lower lip, blushing once more*

:::Kara pauses from drinking her wine, and she sets it down, a look of seriousness on her face, as though she's relaying some very important, and hushed information to her:::
Maggie, I dont know if you know this, but Bard once had a women very much like me. He almost thought I was her once. It's obvious that he has interest in my kind... I bet I happen to be the sort of woman Bard could love...
:::SHe let that one sink in with Maggie:::

*The color drains right out of Maggie's face at that. She presses her lips together in a thin line to keep herself from replying too hastily*
*She's looking at Kara, but it's Linda she's seeing in her mind now . . . not that there's even that great a difference. Maggie knows Bard must have loved her once. Presumably she loved him in return. She's never managed to work up the nerve to ask him more about her. She's a little unnerved to think of where she might fall in comparison . . .*
*But this isn't Linda here, Maggie reminds herself.* Bard will love whom he chooses. *she says, simply*
*And he's chosen te love ye now, Maggie tells herself, at least able to trust that he wouldn't lie to her about that. Please God if ye may be worthy of it. *

Well of course, darling. That's not what I was trying to point out though. What I mean to say is...I understand the sort of thing he desires. Personally, I find it strange that his taste is so fickle, don't you? To go from someone like me to someone like you.
:::She was careful not to allow any hint of condescnetion in her voice. It was her aim to make Maggie speak up...not break down:::
I have to wonder why a man does that sort of thing... but then again. :::She shrugs::: As you so aptly said, he's allowed to love who he wishes... whether that is someone like you...or like me. It's just that...
:::She tisks, as though it bothers her::: There must be certain things he comes to expect from women if he's used to someone like me. And you being a woman of your time, well, I imagine there's quite a bit of culture shock there. Much like between you and I. It's hardly fair that you try so much harder for him than you do me...to be understanding. To be accepting...

*Maggie looks at Kara, still frowning. There's so much racing through her mind that it's almost hard to keep up with all that she's saying.*
Kara . . . surely ye must realize that the way I feel for him is greatly, greatly different than what I feel toward ye. *Maggie tries to keep her voice level, tries to set aside her private worries to reason with her* But I do try te understand that yer world is different. And if 'tis kindness that prompts yer actions then I thank ye for that. But these are things I dinna wish te discuss with ye, te learn from ye. Please respect that, Kara.

:::Kara just sighs to herself:::
Bard's loss then, isn't it?
:::And takes a sip as though not expecting a reaction:::

*Maggie flinches - Kara's words hit their mark. She drops her gaze to the floor, but before she can even begin to think of what to say in reply, she fades and vanishes completely*

**Enter Maggie**
*Maggie fades in, standing on tiptoe with her arms lifted to reach something. She lowers them as she realizes she's in the Brink, turning to look around the room to see if anyone else is there*

*No one else seems to be about . . . Maggie stands there for a bit, chewing her lip thoughtfully. A few moments later, she heads down the hall toward the library, an expression of mixed uncertainty and determination on her face*

** Enter Melliandra **
*Melliandra fades into the brink, her dark hair and eyes morphing to their natural colors almost instantly* --what would the others think, a chaste maiden such as myself, all alone with you, in your private chambers..?
*As she notices where she is, she frowns in annoyance, muttering* I was rather enjoying that.
*She ponders the door for a moment, fanning herself thoughtfully, before shaking her head. Time enough to finish that later*
*She turns and heads for the library*
** Exit Melliandra to Library 41 **

:::Cora appears on the floor of the brink...as naked as the day she was retrieved from the laboratory. She quickly raises herself up with on arm, and looks around to see if by any chance Alex had faded in with her. But it was not so... he was back in his time, alone as she was.
She did happen to spot her cuffs, her boots, and a small piece of cloth that was her retracted suit, all proportionately placed compaired to where they were in Alex's time. Cora resisted the sudden urge to break down and cry, but being fleeting as it was, it passed quickly:::
:::She retrieved each piece of her equipment and replaced it on her body. She considered getting a glass of wine to comfort her...but decided she couldn't stomach anything at the moment. Cora retreated, looking entirely sullen, back to her room...to sleep on all the wonderful moments she'd just experienced to keep herself happy:::
*Exit Cora*

((A box appears next to the bar. After several minutes it moves, slightly. After a couple more moments, the box begins to sway to and fro, until it finally tips over. Out of the box rolls a small shiny silver metal ball, about a foot and a half in diameter. It knocks against a few chairs as it rolls along and then slowly comes to a stop. A whirring sound can be heard from the ball, and a part of the top begins to lift up, revealing a cylindrical attachment leading to the base of the sphere, and two painted on eyes, the irises masking tiny cameras. There's a clicking noise and a screen lights up on the center of the sphere, under its raised head. The screen lights to a solid blue color. With a whirring noise, the head rotates three hundred sixty degrees, the tiny cameras taking everything in. A moment goes by and a large white question mark appears on the screen. After a moment, three panels slide open near the bottom of the sphere, and its lifted up three small extended arms, with rubber treaded wheels. The sphere begins to move, back over towards the box. When it arrives, it positions itself directly next to the overturned box and retracts its wheels and head, then a small metal panel slides over the screen, hiding it. The whirring noise stops.))
